WASHINGTON DC: The CIA has released hundreds of thousands of new documents, images, and computer files recovered during the May 2011 raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad.

The newly-available material provides invaluable insights into the terrorist organization that struck America on September 11, 2001.

A computer recovered in the 2011 US special forces operation that killed Osama bin Laden contains a video collection that includes kids’ cartoons, several Hollywood movies and three documentaries about himself.

The list of the videos was included in the release on Wednesday by the US Central Intelligence Agency of nearly 470,000 files found on the computer seized in the May 2, 2011, US raid on the al Qaeda founder’s hideout in Abbottabad.

With five-year delay, CIA ‘live-tweets’ bin Laden raid

It is the fourth tranche of materials taken from the walled compound where bin Laden and his family lived to be made public by the US government since May 2015.

Materials that still have not been released are being withheld because they could harm national security, are blank, corrupted or duplicate files, are pornographic or are protected by copyright, said a CIA statement.

The copyright-protected materials include more than two dozen videos and two other documentaries about the al Qaeda leader, the CIA said.

“Today’s release of recovered al-Qaeda letters, videos, audio files and other materials provides the opportunity for the American people to gain further insights into the plans and workings of this terrorist organization,” said CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

“CIA will continue to seek opportunities to share information with the American people consistent with our obligation to protect national security.”

Abbotabad attack: CIA ‘live-tweets’ OBL raid

They include bin Laden’s personal journal and 18,000 document files, about 79,000 audio and image files and more than 10,000 video files, the CIA said.

The CIA said that the materials, like those released in the past, provide insights into the origins of the differences between al Qaeda and Islamic State, disagreements within al Qaeda and its allies, and the problems al Qaeda faced at the time of bin Laden’s death.

The files also provide information regarding the al Qaeda network inside Pakistan, and a meticulous look into the trough of documents might shed light on previously unknown aspects of bin Laden’s Pakistani-based network.

The released material details al Qaeda’s history in Iraq as well, and could potentially provide valuable insight into the insurgency militants raged against the allied forces after the invasion, specially the rise of Islamic State and subsequent decline of al Qaeda from the region.

Osama bin Laden liked retro-games and anime - CIA

9-11 mastermind and nominal Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed in May 2011 during a raid on his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A massive amount of intelligence was seized during the raid, including hundreds of thousands of files stored on Bin Laden's hard drive. Today, the CIA released nearly 470,000 of those files, and it turns out that not only was he the world's most infamous terrorist, he also had a thing for retro-gaming and anime.

The archive has been conveniently divided into four categories—audio, documents, images, and video—but is nonetheless a massive thing to dig through. But if you're willing, it's all there: Images of everything from Pac-Man to Perestroika Girls, including both title and gameplay screens. A lot of it is the sort of digital detritus you inevitably pick up while surfing the web, banners for Irish betting sites and pictures of Whitney Houston, and of course there are photos of guns and potential targets and what I assume are terrorist training videos. But there's also a full-length copy of the Street Fighter 4: The Ties That Bind anime film in there, too—subtitled in Arabic, of course.

The CIA noted that some materials collected during the raid have not been made public. Some of the omissions are obvious, like material related to national security, but discovered malware was also removed, as was porn (so apparently there was some), and perhaps most interesting of all, copyrighted content, which altogether paints a rather mundane portrait of an unremarkable mind:

The agency also warned that, despite its curation efforts, the collection may include content that is "offensive and/or emotionally disturbing," and thus not suitable for all ages. It could also contain malware: "Prior to accessing this file collection, please understand that this material was seized from a terrorist organization," it wrote. "While the files underwent interagency review, there is no absolute guarantee that all malware has been removed."

Sufficiently cautioned, you may jump in with both feet at cia.gov.

The CIA always find stuff like this when they raid the enemy's compound. I remember when they did this with Noriega, they found devil worship stuff or other such nonsense.

A week before the US was ranting about Iran and now these have been released with the main find a link between OBL and Iran. Nice Hollywood drama.

Bin laden played final fantasy. Now that’s something I didn’t expect.:uakmal

"Story of India " . .LOL :D . . Did he have expansion plans ?

Anyways , it often escapes us how Educated and qualified this dude was before he went the Taliban way. Wee keep looking at his photos and expect him to have been an uneducated savage.

I suppose even with the spartan warrior image he had to portray to fellow jihadi recruits , the western educated modernised man inside would've yearned to come out every now and then.

Wow, can you imagine his shock at feeling discredited for (what he thinks would've been ) his greatest achievement ?
