The video of the two students, without their shirts and crying in pain ‘oh God, oh God’ in the back of the car, has gone viral on social media.

The director of a private engineering college in Haridwar, five security guards, registrar and a non-teaching staff member have been arrested after security guards of the college allegedly thrashed two Nigerian students who tried to go out for dinner, said police.

The video of the two students, without their shirts and crying in pain ‘oh God, oh God’ in the back of the car, has gone viral on social media.

Sanjeev Thapliyal, station house officer at Bhagwanpur police station in Haridwar district, said FIR has been registered in the matter of beating up of two Nigerian BTech second year students studying at Roorkee Institute of Technology (RIIT) Bhagwanpur college.

Thapliyal said on the complaint of Nigerian student Francis Koyang, an FIR has been registered against the college director Parag Jain, registrar Munendra Chauhan, five security guards and a non-teaching staff member on Thursday.

The two Nigerian students on Thursday evening, said police, tried to move outside the college premises for dinner but were denied permission. The students said they were bored of the college canteen food and stepped out to eat.

Upon their return, they were confronted by the security guards which led to a verbal duel followed by the students getting beaten up with other security guards also joining in, said police.

One of the two students is now recovering in a hospital.

Meanwhile local students, villagers and National Student Union of India (NSUI) have come out in support of the Nigerian students demanding stern legal action against the private college management and their security guards.

Protests were staged outside the college gate by NSUI and Bhim Army activists condemning the action of the college management and security personnel.

Circle officer Mangalore Abhay Singh said that no one will be allowed to take law into their own hands. He said security has been beefed up in the college area with CCTV footage being monitored as well.

When contacted, the college management information cell personnel said that they will soon release a statement.

Very cowardly mob!

It was the security guards. Clear case of racism. They wouldn't have treated a local student like this even if there was an altercation. Only positive is that the students and locals protested in solidarity with the nigerians.

I have heard of a lot of African students being treated like dirt in India, purely because they are black... This is sick, disgusting, pathetic, Indian racism would bring Caucasian racism to its knees..

not the best time for such an incident with all the BLM stuff going on

Everytime I see a youtube video with a black person talking about how great India is and how they want to visit, I just always hope they will never do that fatal visit. All the fair and lovely creams, how dark skin is looked at with so much disgust, its really pathetic... This applies to all of sub continent, not much different in peoples mindset in the grand scheme of things with a few exceptions that are like a drop in the ocean..

Why are Indians targeting Africans ? It makes no sense.

Our people love mob attacks. I am pretty sure had one of these security guard tried to go one on one with one of these nigerian guys, they would have knocked him out in one shot. Cowards.

Irrespective they have been arrested, that's what is needed, one cannot control mob mentality but can defn consequences is what makes people stop.

Every director will now think and set rules.

This was not a mob. It were the security guards who are trained to reinforce themselves. Mob mentality is what you often see in delhi against africans. Some years back Kejriwal's minister had led a mob to attack nigerians. Once delhi metro passengers attacked african students and tore off their clothes.

Looks like delhi is also the racist capital apart from being the rape capital of india.

I agree, there is absolutely nothing good about that place imo except maybe the food.

More than Delhi, I will blame the trash coming from nearby cities like Noida and Ghaziabad into Delhi. Those who have actually lived in Delhi know it pretty well. :inti

This is from the link you posted above :

Anger spread like fire at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida, about 40 kilometres away from the heart of Delhi, on Monday.

The peaceful protest soon turned into a riot and there were rumours about the abduction of an African woman, which the local police denied. The latest incident only adds to the long list of hate crimes in Delhi NCR against people who look and live different.

They were security guards but this is not the first time nigerians have been attacked in India like this.

Security guards or whatever, any time ten people attack two people, they are bloody cowards.

Nigerians and otherwise, no one should ever be attacked by mobs.

Exactly. Delhi people have this racism against those who look and live different to them. The gutter hole of india.

Really sad incident.

Article says they were denied permission to leave college for dinner. Why were they not given permission? Is it because of COVID-19?

I would say a big chunk of Indians all over have an issue with dark skin, not just Delhi..

Yes but people in other cities don't refer to dark people Kaale/Peele in such a humorous tone like Delhi Punjabis do, of all the cities I have traveled to I have found Dilliwalas to be vane. (Majority of my family are Delhi Punjabis).

I would give them this though, they are known to be brash and questioning status quo unlike many esp in IT also they are great at sales/marketing.

Issues are everywhere, but delhi is the leader when it comes to racism and assault on women.

Sir issues are everywhere but they don't get reported as much as issues in Delhi do because it is India's capital. Only a delusional soul can think that states like UP and Bihar are safer than Delhi. :inti

I was comparing delhi with other urban centers. But if you are comparing it with large states like UP and bihar then it only proves the point that delhi is the gutter hole of india.

I always found people from Delhi quite rough and tough. Delhi is like Texas of India.

People from Mumbai are generally quite polite. Just my experience.

I knew before even watching the video that the Nigerians must have been outnumbered drastically for the security guards to get physical.

When the rule says that due to covid 19 you cannot go out of the campus, why did they go out?

The director and guards etc have been arrested. Thats fine. They have no right to beat them up. Expulsion would have been the best option.

Problem is the brutality side of it.

Serves them right. Whether it’s Nigerians or Indian locals. Instructions are pretty clear during lockdowns. also rightly the accused are punished because they cannot take law in their own hands. anyway it’s another pointless thread. And these types are going up lately

India and it's law lol? Which law in India suggests to gang up on Nigerians and beat them like that? Do come back with a decent reply this time before showing your limited knowledge about yet another topic. :inti

Life is unfair for many people. Imagine being from a 3rd world country and your way of getting out is to study in another 3rd world country then getting beaten up for how you look.

What were students doing in college. When colleges are not open.
If i remember correctly educational institutes are still locked.
