Having watched Gary Neville's own goal for England versus Croatia, part of me felt sorry for Robinson, but part of me was hysterical with laughter.

Can you recall any other comical own goals ?

I once scored a sweet volley from about 10 yards straight into the top right hand corner of the goal. Just took it first time and it went wallop and shook the back of the net. Shame it had to be an own goal.

Was for my school when I was about 15.

frank sinclair scored numerous ones in his career!

he must be king of own goals!

I remember lee dixon scoring a bizare o.g v coventry back in early 1990s when he turned from 40 yards and chipped david seamen who was off his line.

its on end of this video - http://youtube.com/watch?v=YP1h-FM2rQc&mode=related&search=

des walkers diving headed o.g in 1991 cup final sticks in mind

oh then theres the colombian who scored an o.g in 1994 and was shot dead! That was sad!

Traore o.g v burnley a few seasons back was hilarious also!

There was one OG in this Australia vs Paraguay friendly last week. One of the Aussie players was retiring and this was his last game. He scores in the 89th minute then gets subbed off to a standing ovation. The guy who comes in, with virtually his first touch heads it into the back of his net about a minute later

can someone upload the neville-robison comedy?

And the guy who scored the OG was playing his first match, wasn't he

The look on his face was priceless :))

Puyol's OG against Werder was also funny...he went full stretch to score that goal...

Best own goal. Ever.

Btw is that the UAE league as it sounds like Amir Almarri, don't know for sure as I haven't followed it in a while and I don't remember a Al Dhafra team unless they recently made the leap to the premier league.

P.S - Just saw the UAE flags on the shirts of the players although the graphics said dauri alkhaleej al3arabi, (Arabian Gulf League), didn't know such a thing existed.

It's the top level league in the UAE. The name is juggled around due to sponsorships and what not. Used to be called Etisalat Pro League previously.

Don't really follow it much but looks like Al-Dhafra has been on the scene for a while, though they aren't exactly a top club.

From what I remember Al Dhafra was a military base near Abu Dhabi as a lot of my sixth grade failed friends went on to join the army as was the case before and had many training camps there. The worst were in Sharjah and Ajman though. I remember the time when an Abu Dhabi Sheikh (won't mention him) got drunk and brought a tank and some really loyal servicemen next to Nahyans house and it took them 8 hours to talk him out of it. He of course is alright but the others lost their jobs.

None of them are exactly top clubs. I grew up and played with Mohammad Umar (Wasl and UAE team), Tariq Al Muttawah, Dubai team, Ahmed Al Amri etc. It is just the rivalry between Al Wasl and Al Nasr (derby teams) and Al Ahli, most of whom are filled with meenawis and the Abu Dhabi team, and Al Ittihad, or Al Ain Teams etc don't even consider them actual Emaratis and look down on them.

I remember the time when we (Im half Emarati) had a great team which actually qualified for the WC with players like Adnan Al Talyani (probably the best UAE captain ever), Khalid Ismail, Abdulaziz Mohammed and Abdulr Razzaq Ibrahim probably the best UAE forward and playmaker ever and cousin of current forward Mohammad Umar, however he was banned because he drop kicked a referee in the chest during a Wasl vs Nasr match. I actually saw that match live and many people I know still think that what he did was correct.

Aslo the best Emarati goal for me was by Ismail Mattar when he scored in the final of the Al Khaleej Cup in 2007. I remember us all going to the streets and doing a "maseera" for three days which resulted in a total shut down of the city for three days.

Damn, why did he do that?

The UAE league is on the TV here but I rarely watch it as the quality isn't great though it can be entertaining at times.

Football fever in Egypt is on the rise now after they qualified for the World Cup and the locals are of course heavily invested in the rivalries anyway.

This was way back then and he like Mohammad Umar was a child of the Sheikh albeit from another wife and although could not be considered in line for the throne, was untouchable. I actually knew all 54 of them (those who live in the castle in Zabeel) as I was the IT in charge there at the time. Nothing to do with experience, just connections.

The only football from Egypt we watched was the derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek but even then their game was on a totally different level to us.

Keeper is also part of the fail.... had he used his hand max the opponents would have gotten freekick inside the box which generally don't amount to anything.
