Imran Farhat................Azhar Ali
Nasir Jamshed..............Ahmed Shehzad
Kamran Akmal (wk)......Fakhar Zaman
Mohammad Hafeez

Asad Shafiq.................Babar Azam
Misbah-ul-Haq.............Sarfraz Ahmed © (wk)
Umar Amin.................Umar Akmal
Shoaib Malik

Ehsan Adil..................Faheem Ashraf

Saeed Ajmal..............Shadab Khan
Abdur Rehman...........Imad Wasim

Mohammad Irfan.......Mohammad Amir
Asad Ali.................... Hasan Ali
Wahab Riaz
Junaid Khan

Junaid failed in 2013 (his best year in intl. cricket) , and he will fail again in 2017.

Wahab seems to have a bigger ****** than Hafeez. Has been trash all along.

The team has changed but mentality hasn't. Marginally better than 2013 squad. Names that I'm hoping to do well are: Sarf, Malik and definitely Babar. Hasan Ali has been amazing as of late, Amir bowling well in Tests which'll hopefully translate into better performances in ODIs. Shadab as a wildcard? If Rashid Khan of AFG can do well in IPL then giving Shadab a chance in 2 of 3 games isn't a bad shout.

Hoping some good performances from Imad, Shadab, Babar, Sarfraz, Amir and Hassan.

Considerably better than out 2013 squad however given how poor that was, this isn't much of an achievement. Especially considering some of our key players like Sarfaraz, Babar, Imad, Hasan even Shadab weren't around then and have become automatic picks this time. Add to that a rampaging Malik, the return of Half of Amir, our core is so much better.

It is the lack of extra match winners like Amin, Haris and even Sohail Khan that are missing which makes this a poor selection.

But but but... Inzi has only selected TTFs and "his friends" and he doesn't give youngsters a chance...

Azhar
Shehzad
U Akmal
Junaid
Wahab
Hafeez
Faheem

Pathetic squad.

Pathetic squad.

The thing is, with Akmal you can hope that if he miraculously plays a big innings, it'll benefit Pakistan. With Azhar and Hafeez, you know the longer they stay, the more balls they'll waste.

Wahab is undroppable btw.

People like to have a go at Inzi for the sake of it and while he deserves criticism they've gone over board with it as if he has selected the same squad from 2013 CT team. Out of the names selected by Inzi, if I could make 2 changes at the very least then it would be Harris in for Azhar and Azam or Yamin in for Junaid . And I'd be pretty happy overall, in this instance though I give Inzi a 7-7.5/10 for his selections. The squad is significantly better then the 2013 CT team

ICC should rename our champion's trophy team from Pakistan XI to Passengers XI.

I would have loved to see Haris instead of Azhar but it is clear that Harris still isn't fully fit. I like Junaid so I'm glad to see him there. Quality post yet again, bro.

Won't go player vs player directly yet, but composition wise, 2017 is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better.

Imagine, PAK had Abdur Rehman in the squad & 4 spinners - 3 in playing XI, for tournament in May-June in UK & no pace bowling all-rounder.

In player to player comparison as well, this team is far better.

Azhar, Babar & Umar is definite improvement, while Malik is totally a different player now.

Pace attack is definitely better with Amir & Hasan.

And, last but not the least - Captaincy is far, far better.

I am hoping that hasan, shadab, imad, and maybe aamir somehow drag us deep in the tournament. no hope from any of the others.

All of those are bowlers. No faith in any of the spectacular batsman.

yes. maybe your favorite captain will have perfected his pouting to inspire a matchwinning performance from the bowlers.
Actually thats my only hope: that we will find ways to defend 250 type scores twice and then get demolished in the final 4.

Bowling wise the 2013 team was strong. Good pace bowlers with good spinners.

2017 bowling is weak. Only 1 spinner, a squad should aways have 2 full time spinners with a back up part timer. The bowling selection is a similar mistake like the one they made in last years world t20.

Batting wise, our 2013 batting was just a big joke. Misbah was the only batsmen we had. THis year our batting is a strong point on paper.

contrary. I think this is a better bowling side in my view.

How is batting a strong point when you have one player who can hit the ball consistently and he is insane/stupid/unfit?

We are still in 90s cricket mode, especially if Azhar, Ahmed and professor all play

This squad is better than the one in 2013, almost each counterpart in 17 one is better than the one in 13.

Looking back at that squad and the whole tournament.. What an embarrassment!!! Jamshed and Farhat have to be one of the worst opening pair ever

I don't know if it's better than the 2013 squad. The 2013 had momentum and confident performances coming into the CT, including a 2-1 series win in India. It may not seem so on paper looking at all those TTFs but I even remember 2 out of 3 experts on Cricinfo calling Pakistan the favorites to win the CT.

How is captaincy better? Sarfraz hasn't proved himself yet by any measure. And if he continues screaming at players and showing a lack of restraint his days as captain will be numbered.

Still, he tries to win a game - don't pretend; and he doesn't play for respectable defeats ....

2013 was an awful team . Malik, Kami, and Farhat LOL. What an awful batting line up we had. The bowlers did a respectable job.

2013 there was no hope for

2017 there is some tiny bit of hope for provided we get a good combination (ie Fahkar/Professor opening, Sarfraz at 4). It's also probably the best fielding team Pakistan has put out in a tournament, no out right passanger

Think both the bowling and batting is stronger this time around

Champions Trophy 2013 (Misbah-ul-Haq) vs Champions Trophy 2017 (Sarfraz Ahmed)

So what exactly changed? from 0-3 in CT13 to winning CT17.

I think Misbah had a very strong bowling line up with a deadly combo of Ajmal/Hafeez and in form Junaid/Irfan.

Except Fakhar i don't see any major improvement in batting line up, Babar failed. Misbah had the services of himself (was at peak), Hafeez, Malik, Jamshed etc.

So is it just a case of pure luck or change of captaincy and mindset under Sarfaraz?

:) to this thread. Very much needed.

How would Misbah the captain have done with the present squad is the important question to ask?

Hasan Ali did a celebration and the energy level went over 9,000 or something. That seems to be the soundbite that lazy commentators have fallen back on recently.

Same host country and almost same teams in group stage. India & South Africa

No comparison a laid back limited Misbah with a zealous and smart thinker Sarfraz

Our batting was so horrible at that time. I remember our bowlers bowling the other teams out for less than 200 but our batting let us down.

This time around is different. Better batsmen and bowlers. Well done to Sarfraz's team. As I write this we have won the Champions Trophy. 😁

That bowling line was really good i remember almost defending a low total against Windies

this guy has become a legend, as a captain defeated india by 180 runs in the final of champions trophy to lift first ever cup for Pakistan in his second only tournament.

got the chance to prove his worth and didnt waste it

Batting in this CT was light years ahead of the last one. In 2013, Misbah was pretty much our entire batting lineup with the others playing the role of cardboard targets to perfection. This time around, the batting clicked when it mattered. Bowling too wasn't as good back then as it was in this CT though from what I recall, they still went out of their way to make up for the crappy batting but there's only so much you can do when your batting card reads 'random chump, random chump, random chump, random chump, Misbah, random chump, random chump and so on'.

THE Biggest difference was Captain & the brain at the dressing room.

What would the result have been if Misbah ul Haq was the captain of this squad in 2017 CT?

This answer will clarify everything.

This.....you give Misbah this team and these boys will **** all over the place. :))

No comparisons....misbah was the worst ODI captain i have ever seen. Glad that time is now over.
