What's new

Congratulations to Australia on winning ICC World Cup 2023

I think the Indian cricket team is great. Super solid. Intriguing personalities. Good sportsmanship and very well behaved both on the field and off. They are a fantastic example of how WE should play/manage our cricket from grass roots - to international.

The hardcore Indian FANS however are absolutely unbearable. The rudeness and toxicity I've witnessed the past 20+ years just never seems to go away. Instead of realising that the Pak/Ind cricket team actually have great relationships between each other, they get very rude and personal (which is even displayed by their shameful EX cricketers and countless TV shows).

The Indo/Pak relations would be so much better if everyone behaved like The Pavilion show on YouTube.

Thank you Australia

Travis Head!! Destroyed India in the World test final and now in the ODI WC final. Didn't think he would survive the first 10 overs but it's their spirit. They are fearless, they never give up and they field and bowl like tigers. Even mid tournament I had Aussies as favorites but after their struggle against SA in SF, I thought India are firm favorites. Was proven wrong. Nothing can beat boldness and courage. Congrats Aussies!!

Congrats!!!!

Worthy champs - lost two in group stages, beat them both in KOs, eventually winning the WC with wins against every team. May of them playing their last WC game today - Smith, Warner, Labus, Maxwell, Starc, Josh..... probably Cummins & Ingles as well.

Something about them and finals. massive congratulations to the mighty Australia cricket team.

Commiserations to India.

Australia have the DNA to win WC finals as rameez says. Australia were just better. India had everything going for them. World Cup in home conditions. With the support of the entire country. Stadiums full of their supporters.Their greatest ever white ball batsmen and opening bowlers. Curating pitches to your needs but still no win.

Precision by Australia. Shown sheer bravery through out the tournament. Champions and defeated every team. Inspiring. India played very good cricket they got outplayed in every department. They got us a month full of joy. Hard luck.

The cricket Nation is Aus it is what it is.

Greatest Sport nations Aus SA NZ US they are so much into sports its insane.

They all have atleast one sport they dominate like crazy and are extremely good in multiple sports.

Just love how they come out fighting, they came out swinging against the new ball. Even when they lost three quick wickets, I feel that attitude put them on the front foot right from the start. They play the sport the right way.

ATG Cricketing Nation. They still won the WC even though they did not play their perfect A game in any game of the tournament. Their team had aging super stars in Warner, Smith, Starc, Hazelwood and some weak links but it was still enough to win the WC.

Speaks volumes of the baggy green legacy.

Great commitment by entire team was visible after first few losses. Congratulations to Aus team and fans!

GOAT cricketing nation, it is what it is , I doubt their fans even know that this team has won T20, WTC and ODi wc lol

6th world cup win.

This is probably the weakest Australia side to win a World Cup.

You have to give credit to Cummins captaincy here. Only two battters avged above 40 in their squad, and they used their resources well.

Man, that 200 by Maxwell against Afg and now this final win. Love the aussies. There spirit and attitudde

True. Canada as well, but due to cold climate, in most warm weather (& familiar) sports Canada isn’t dominating globally. However, in winter sports & some indoor winter sports it’s stronger than USA.

But yes, mam for man, for a 20-21 mn populated country, Aussie achievements are greatest in world; Kiwis & the Dutch as well. In past, Cuba was there despite being a 3rd world country.

The best thing was Pat cummins attitude man, they are like yeah we are ready to play whatever they put in front of us , we don’t care about pitches , hostile crowd.

Pat cummins as I mentioned before as well when all teams were complaining about pollution in Delhi, this guy was roaming around Delhi with his family , insane!

MENTAL GIANTS

Yes forgot about Dutch also amazing. It’s a culture that needs to be cultivated.

What differentiates Aussies with others is that, looking at the wicket and what India did batting first in SF (or against SAF), I believe every team including India would have batted first today - not Australia. You can’t scare them before a contest.

Great point. They played their game and did not worry about anything else.

amazing result, credit also goes to usama mir, iykyk, but aus have that big dog mentality, 45-3 chasing 250 in a final is a big big pressure point, and head and labu managed it perfectly. greatest cricket nation ever easily.

Terrific campaign for Australia. Just goes to show what a miss Travis Head was in the beginning of the Cup.

Also their much improved fielding catching in the latter stages really lifted that team up.

Kudos to Cummins and co.

Congratulations australia , amazing chase on tricky wicket 😃

Our wait for trophy continues but not too sad as an Indian fan considering the great campaign we had. No complaints and best team won today

Congratulations to all the Aussie fans. Deserving winners! Played well under immense pressure against a red hot team. Worthy of yet another title. Congrats again!!

I wish there was more Aussies who we could congratulate on these boards, but the only one I can think of is a Modi diehard. Not sure he'll be able to swallow his rottis tonight.

Just saw Cummings let the Aussie support staff (who i think were Indians) to hold a trophy and Cummins took a pic. Great gesture.

I just hope their nationality doesnt get revoked.

Congrats Australia, I didn't think this squad was particularly strong with a lot of batsmen past their best, but in true Aussie fashion they peaked at right time.

It was clear BCCI had planned for an Indian victory - from the fireworks, the presentation ceremony, and even the drones which were projecting just the Indian flag etc.

There was no plan B!

Even when Kohli was awarded the player of the tournament award, he just collected his award, no handshakes with his childhood role model - Tendulkar - or even Jay Shah, in fact, not a single word with Shastri!

Kohli totally blanked the field!

😎

Congrats Australia, without question the better team today, and today mattered the most

I was a lurker for a while and you were the best poster on here. Great to see you back.

Disgraceful honestly

wait, they didnt project the Australian flag?

Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive Nick Hockley has congratulated the Australian team on winning a record sixth ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Australia beat hosts India by six wickets in the final in Ahmedabad adding to the World Cup trophies won in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2015.

The latest victory was the culmination of a tournament in which Pat Cummins’ team won their last nine games including a tense semi-final victory over South Africa and the final before a huge crowd at Narendra Modi Stadium.

Australia becomes the first nation to hold both the ICC World Test Championship and the Men’s Cricket World Cup simultaneously, having also beaten India in the WTC final at The Oval in June. The Australian women’s team holds the ICC Women’s World Cup and T20 World Cup trophies.

Nick Hockley, CA Chief Executive said:

“This is another wonderful achievement by Pat Cummins and his team who have performed brilliantly in testing conditions and against strong opposition throughout the tournament.

“To beat the previously undefeated India before their passionate home fans is an achievement that sits comfortably alongside any of Australia’s five previous ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup finals victories.

“To win both the ICC Test Championship and the Men’s Cricket World Cup in the same year is a testament to the calibre of our players across all formats and the expertise and dedication of our coaches and staff who have maintained such a high level of performance throughout a very demanding schedule.

“Together with the retention of both the men’s and women’s Ashes and a sixth victory in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, there is so much to celebrate as we head towards another exciting summer of international cricket.”

Congratulations Australia. Through out the tournaments they did performed just about to get over the line.

How ever, today they pretty much dominated bar 15 overs of the game and showed the mentality of serial winners

Pakistani players absolutely crapped themselves when they played against India at this stadium. They were defeated even before the first ball was bowled.

Whereas Australia flourished in such an environment, they loved it and loved the fact that they could hush the crowd.

There's the difference.

Congrats Australia. Definitely threw me for a loop, I didn't completely rule them out but had India as heavy favourites before the final
Everything just seemed to be lining up for India, but that came out exactly like a team with so much pedigree on this stage would come out.

So proud of our boys. Cummins was exceptional and Head's innings under such pressure will be remembered for a long, long time.

It's coming home!!

Incredible sporting nation.

It was straight up gangsta what they did and is a top 3 sporting moment in terms of impressive sporting feats.

Congratulations Australia, truly a dynamite performance in the final top down. Sucks for India lol, but gotta tip your hat to the aussies

Just unreal temperament.
Given no pressure from public it is quite a bit easier as it's a 3rs sport in Australia but no one can deny their mental strength. What a team.

Goat cricket nation.

Also india are morons for choosing sky Rahul and iyer. All 3 were suspect. Should have trusted their youth like jaiswal ishan etc. What a waste for them.
also jadeja? I am sure they have a better player than him for odi. I have never seen him bat all that great under pressure.
Pandya may have been genuinely missed too at 7.

Capt

My man, you need to get over this Modi, Hindutva thing that is living in your head, you are bringing it into almost every thread. Don't let them get to you, you can fight it..

Just mesmerised by the performance of head. He sank india in wtc too. And now here.

3 years back he struggled vs short balls. What a transformation.

Iyer should learn from him. Sky too. Not kohli who is a stat padder.

Head never really struggled against the short ball - I can remember him destroying WA many times as a youngster. It's just that like every player he initially struggled with the jump up in class to international cricket.

But given him team to develop and he has proven his class.

Australia are the true #1 currently (even though ranking shows India are #1).

Aussies have the WTC and ODI WC trophies. I expect them to win 2024 World T20 and CT 2025 also.

T20 I expect them to lose as any fodder hack can perform.
They are kingd of odi. Untouchable there.

Tests I don't know. Depends on the pitch.

I expect aus and India to make finals again depending on whom India choose. But they will falter again in ko stage as usual. Ahha

While speaking on a podcast, Adam Zampa said:

"Yeah, I think looking back on that World Cup, I feel like and I reckon a lot of other people probably feel like India were given the World Cup basically on a platter, and it was like something miraculous had to happen for anyone else to win it."

"120,000 Indians, and as I said, it just felt like it was there for India to take. And the satisfaction of walking off the ground and having them only get 240, it was like, alright, is this possible? And then the whole emotion of being three down, the ball swinging and nipping everywhere, it was a difficult innings to watch, but as soon as Hedy and Marnus locked in, it was honestly so satisfying. And to beat India in India in front of that many people, I don't think that you can ever beat that feeling."

Congrats to them one more time! Wasn't disappointed though like I was in 2003. I have just learned to take cricket as a game.

India shouldn't have played with the pitch at Ahmedabad that day, we were most certain to win the 3rd World Cup.

Anyways with India winning back to back ICC tournaments, the pain of that day is gone.
