Given that a very very small fraction of the world population is infected and the survival rate is high, it really leads anyone with common sense to understand the powers that be wanted and forced this recession.
A lot of people will lose jobs, homes and some will take their own lives because these monsters have created a huge issue out of this.

Complete hypocrisy by some. Everyone that knows their assets and cash flow is insured have no issues to shut down their work/business and they do not mind if this is shut down for many months if not years as long as their businesses are getting paid by the insurers

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK has reached 1,950 - up 407 in the past 24 hours and a rise of 26%.
The latest confirmed number of deaths will be announced later today. As it stands, there have been 56 reported deaths.
As of 9am on Tuesday 50,442 people were tested for coronavirus in the UK and 48,492 tested negative.
The latest figures come after the government ramped up measures against the coronavirus pandemic following new predictions that the UK could otherwise have seen 250,000 deaths.
A new document published by the COVID-19 team at London's Imperial College - which is advising the government on its coronavirus response - warns the current public health threat is the "most serious" from a respiratory virus since the Spanish Flu in 1918.
They advised the UK adopts a strategy of "epidemic suppression" - for a period of potentially 18 months or more - rather than "mitigation".
Modelling of the "most effective" mitigation strategy examined had revealed that NHS capacities could be exceeded by at least eightfold - and about 250,000 people could die.
Why did the government change its stance?
The Imperial team described the suppression of the coronavirus outbreak as "the only viable strategy at the current time" - even if the "social and economic effects of the measures which are needed to achieve this policy goal will be profound".
On Monday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a significant escalation of UK measures in response to coronavirus, including advising everyone in the country to avoid pubs, clubs, restaurants and theatres and to only make essential journeys.
Britons have been advised to avoid all non-essential foreign travel for 30 days as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said the "fast-changing international circumstances" of the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19 required changes to the official travel advice.
"The FCO [Foreign and Commonwealth Office] will always consider the safety and the security of British nationals, so with immediate effect I've taken the decision to advise British nationals against non-essential travel globally for an initial period of 30 days and of course subject to ongoing review," he told MPs in the Commons.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide now stands at more than 185,000 and there are more than 7,300 deaths.

NHS England is to suspend all non-urgent surgery for three months from 15 April in a bid to free up staff and beds to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.
The health service announced plans to cancel all routine surgery and send as many patients as possible home, with the aim of freeing up a third of the 100,000 hospital beds in England.
Sir Simon Stevens, the head of NHS England, said the goal was to try and stop the healthcare system becoming overwhelmed during a potential surge of COVID-19 cases.

The chief executives and chairs of Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester airports and the Airport Operators Association (AOA) have warned that the coronavirus crisis may result in airports grinding to a halt within weeks without government support.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, the directors say that 'traffic has fallen dramatically and is going down day by day'.
They continue: 'The impact on the hundreds of thousands of people, either employed by us directly or through the SMEs and supply chains that serve our customers, is massive, real and happening at speed.
'These jobs have instantly been put at very real risk. We may have to close passenger facilities and halt operations.'
The letter pleas for the government to make Britain's airports a top priority.
It says: 'The decisions that are taken now will dictate the speed of the economic recovery when it comes and we will need to be at the heart of it. The Secretary of State has said he will be meeting the airlines.
'We would ask he also urgently meets with us this week and that our needs are made an immediate priority for the "Economic and Business Response Committee" that the Chancellor is establishing today.'
The signatories of the letter are Stewart Wingate, CEO of Gatwick, and Sir David Higgins, Chair of Gatwick; John Holland-Kaye, CEO of Heathrow, and Lord Paul Deighton, Chair of Heathrow; Charlie Cornish, CEO of Manchester Airport, and Sir Adrian Montague, Chair of Manchester Airport, and Karen Dee, CEO of AOA, and Ruby McGregor-Smith, Chair of AOA.
In a separate AOA statement, Ms Dee said it was essential that airport businesses remain operating and are able to 'weather this storm so that they can provide the connectivity which drives growth, employment and prosperity after the crisis has abated'.
She wrote: 'Governments across the world are supporting their national aviation industries, as many parts of the global travel industry have come to a halt. As some airlines call on the UK Government to act similarly, we are clear that airports will shut down in weeks unless urgent action is taken to support the industry.
'Due to the fixed costs of operating airports, the government will need to provide additional support.
'The government must step in to see airports across the four home nations through the current crisis, and make an unequivocal commitment to doing whatever it takes to sustain the UK aviation industry.'
Ms Dee released a list of things the Airport Operators Association, which represents over 50 of the UK's biggest airports, believes the government should be doing immediately.
These are - be prepared to provide/organise emergency financing as a measure of last resort; require banks to temporarily not enforce financial performance-based banking covenants; suspend business rates and other government and local government rates and taxes on airports; deferral of payments of all VAT, corporation tax and other taxes for the duration of global flight restrictions; share the employment cost of airport staff laid off throughout the crisis; suspend regulatory costs on airports where possible; indefinitely postpone major increases to those regulatory costs, such as the Next Generation Security Checkpoint and provide relief from airport policing costs.
She added: 'For the sake of the UK economy it is essential for the UK government to catch-up to its peers across the continent and provide support to the sector and the wider economy through financing, guarantees, grants and tax relief.
'Finally, to help kickstart aviation again once the pandemic is retreating, the government should suspend Air Passenger Duty for six months.'
Meanwhile, Airports Council International (ACI) for Europe has warned that airports across the continent are bracing themselves for a 'near-total collapse' of traffic, connectivity and revenues.
In a letter to EU transport ministers and the EU commission, ACI Europe president Jost Lammers said that passenger traffic at EU/EEA/Swiss and UK airports decreased on average by 54 per cent last week, down from 24 per cent the preceding week.
Be prepared to provide/organise emergency financing as a measure of last resort.
Require banks to temporarily not enforce financial performance-based banking covenants.
Suspend business rates and other government and local government rates and taxes on airports.
Deferral of payments of all VAT, corporation tax and other taxes for the duration of global flight restrictions.
Share the employment cost of airport staff laid off throughout the crisis.
Suspend regulatory costs on airports where possible.
Indefinitely postpone major increases to those regulatory costs, such as the Next Generation Security Checkpoint.
Provide relief from airport policing costs.

And now it estimates that these airports will collectively lose over 100 million passengers in the first quarter of this year, compared to a business as usual scenario.

As more countries both in the EU and beyond are adopting travel and flight bans, the proposal for a ban on entry into the Schengen area and with most European countries likely to go into lock-downs similar to Italy, airlines are further accelerating drastic capacity cuts and route cancellations to limit their financial exposure. Some are even shutting down all operations.
'This means that Europe’s airports are now bracing for a near-total collapse of their traffic, connectivity and revenues. Indeed, the dramatic state of Italian airports gives an indication of what lies ahead for airports across the continent. Over the past days, passenger traffic at Italian airports went into a free-fall, decreasing by more than 90 per cent.
'For airports, falling passenger traffic immediately translates into lost aeronautical and non-aeronautical revenues which they rely upon to operate, maintain and develop their facilities.
'For now, ACI Europe’s revised forecast shows Europe’s airports losing €2 billion in revenue just in the first quarter of the year (before even factoring in the ban on entry into the Schengen area). These losses will further deepen in the coming months.
'All European airports are currently rushing through extensive cost containment measures including unpaid leave for staff, temporary layoffs, corporate travel restrictions, ending consultancy and external contracts, closure of terminals where technically possible, reduction and suspension of investments.'

This idiotic Tories government is waiting for the things to get as bad as they are in Italy before they do something. UK should already be in lockdown, but instead many people still have to go to work, using public transport (best way to contract Covid 19), schools and universities are still open. Idiot Boris is urging everyone to avoid pubs, cinemas and not travel, but he doesn't realise that many of us have to travel for work or school. We don't have a choice!
This government is a shambles. Even Trump has done more to try to combat the Covid 19 than Boris Johnson.

McDonalds has confirmed from 5am on Wednesday morning all restaurants in the UK and Ireland will close seating areas and temporarily move to being takeaway, drive-through and delivery operations only to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak

Today, many teachers were not at their respective due to the advice given by the government. In one school, around 20 students were sent home as they showed symptoms.
It’s not possible to run schools when most teachers are at home for 7 days.
The kids of the NHS workers will have to be dealt with but a school isn’t a childcare centre nor are the teachers babysitters so stop treating them as such

On Tuesday, the number of fatalities in England increased by 14. NHS England said those who died were aged between 45 and 93 and all had underlying health conditions.
As of 9am on Tuesday morning, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK had risen by 407 over a 24-hour period.
An estimated 621 cases are in London, representing 32% of cases nationwide.
The latest figures come after the government ramped up measures against the coronavirus pandemic following new predictions that the UK could otherwise have seen 250,000 deaths.
A new document published by the COVID-19 team at London's Imperial College - which is advising the government on its coronavirus response - warns the current public health threat is the "most serious" from a respiratory virus since the Spanish Flu in 1918.
Modelling of the "most effective" mitigation strategy examined had revealed that NHS capacities could be exceeded by at least eightfold - and about 250,000 people could die.
The Imperial team described the suppression of the coronavirus outbreak as "the only viable strategy at the current time" - even if the "social and economic effects of the measures which are needed to achieve this policy goal will be profound".
On Monday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a significant escalation of UK measures in response to coronavirus, including advising everyone in the country to avoid pubs, clubs, restaurants and theatres and to only make essential journeys.
Britons have been advised to avoid all non-essential foreign travel for 30 days as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said the "fast-changing international circumstances" of the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19 required changes to the official travel advice.
"The FCO [Foreign and Commonwealth Office] will always consider the safety and the security of British nationals, so with immediate effect I've taken the decision to advise British nationals against non-essential travel globally for an initial period of 30 days and of course subject to ongoing review," he told MPs in the Commons.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide now stands at more than 185,000 and there are more than 7,300 deaths.

3497 cases per day on Mar 14 with things rate of growth stabilising.

Had they NOT locked down their country, in 30 days they would have hit 100,000 cases per day...
and in 45 days...they would have hit 1.8 million cases per day.
Even if they contained hard, the actual numbers would have been ridiculous too.

I never even argued for lockdown bhai.
It has to be strategic. Especially in countries like India and Pakistan.
But you can't equate lockdown and compare deaths in Italy. That was my point which I illustrated with math.

Deaths come from existing corona patients who fought but lost.
With new cases declining (sometime in the future), deaths will decline too.
Till then, deaths will show no signs of subsiding.
Another reason for deaths in Italy is that the population is old. So their death ratio will be high.
Wish people would stop repeating this. it might be a reason why italy's death rate is so shockingly high at the moment, but it's not why italy are badly affected. They are badly affected because it's a deadly illness. England have slightly less old people, yeah, but it's hardly solace or reassurance

Think it's better to be a bit panicky then oblivious to the magnitude of the situation like most people have been last couple of weeks. Most people I have spoken to in england arent even aware of what's been happening in Italy and spain and we are one week behind how italy was last week

Lockdown makes sense. But it has to be fast and quick. China did it after 600 diagnosed cases. Italy was caught by surprise then it took them a while to decide for a lockdown.
Denmark is a better example of a quick and effective lockdown. Look at their numbers.

I am a physician in the US. Our response to the pandemic has been a joke. However, the response in the UK has been even worse. The leaders have completely failed to educate the public why this is a big deal. So people like Mr Rana here are going off on misguided rants. I can sympathize with his position, it is up to the political and medical leaders to properly explain things to people during tough times like this.
Without getting too technical, let me just explain it this way. This is a new virus. None of us have immunity against it. If you catch it, you will get sick. How sick you get depends largely on your age. Children have very mild symptoms, whereas the death rate in people above 65 is very high. The more co-morbidities you have, the higher the likelihood of getting very sick - diabetes, heart disease, COPD, asthma, etc. We have no cure, no vaccine, no medicine. Nothing. All we can do is prevent people from catching it, and the only way to do that is to limit exposures. Now in countries like South Korea, they are being very aggressive about testing. They are finding EVERYONE that has it, whether or not they have symptoms, and isolating them for 14-21 days and this is stopping the spread of the virus. But places like the UK, US, etc don't have enough tests to do this. So they are telling everyone to isolate and hoping that enough sick people also isolate and things calm down. But sadly it won't be enough, and cases will definitely spike in both countries. The hope is that at least it helps somewhat.
Its a scary time for healthcare workers. I have a 1 year old son, and I worry if i catch it what impact it will have on him. I worry for my parents who are in their 60s and my wifes parents who are in their 70s. Very high risk of mortality if they catch it. May Allah keep all of us safe!

A partial shutdown of the London Underground is beginning today - and up to 40 stations that do not interchange with other lines are going to be closed "until further notice".
As the morning rush hour began, several other stations were closed owing to "operational restrictions".
The Waterloo and City line is going to shut completely from Friday, and Night Tube services that normally run on Friday and Saturday nights are being suspended.
Transport for London (TfL) is also planning to reduce the frequency of services across its network from Monday "to provide a service for critical workers to get where they need to".
The Tube, London Overground, TfL Rail, the DLR and London trams will all be affected by this reduction in service.
Late services will continue to run for "essential journeys" on both the Tube and Overground - with bus services continuing through the night.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: "People should not be travelling, by any means, unless they really, really have to. Londoners should be avoiding social interaction unless absolutely necessary, and that means they should be avoiding using the transport network unless absolutely necessary.
"London will get through these extraordinarily challenging times, and ensuring the capital's critical workers can move around the city will be crucial.
"I'm urging Londoners to only use public transport for essential journeys. Everyone should follow this and the other advice to help keep themselves and each other safe."

Of course it will You may not see immediate improvement in cases (they will continue to rise for a few weeks) as theres a 2 weeks delay in people contracting it and recovering from it
But over 3-4 weeks the no of cases should start levelling off and coming down if the lockdown is observed properly

I think UK govt can't bear the prospect of no longer being seen as Great Britain. Lockdowns and such will devastate the economy, and it looks like they are trying to get away with disturbing businesses as less as possible. People are still being advised to avoid pubs and restaurants rather than forcing the issue. We are literally leaving it up to the public to take the lead.
