Already fears of job losses expected and large number of business under strain to operate in many countries. This is escalating to unimaginable proportions and recession seems very evident now!
UK aiming for under 20,000 deaths from virus: government chief scientist
LONDON (Reuters) - Britain hopes the measures it has taken to tackle coronavirus mean it will have below 20,000 deaths from the outbreak, the governent’s chief scientific adviser Patrick Vallance said on Tuesday.
On Monday, the government ramped up its battle against the virus, shutting down social life in Britain and ordering the most vulnerable to isolate for 12 weeks.
Vallance said the impact of the measures on the number of infections should be seen in two to three weeks. Based on the modelling being used by the government, it is a “reasonable ballpark” that Britain actually has around 55,000 cases of the virus, compared to the 1,543 confirmed by testing, he said.
He told a committee of lawmakers when asked about deaths: “If we can get this down to 20,000 and below, that is a good outcome in terms of where we would hope to get to with this outbreak. It is still horrible, it is still an enormous number of deaths and it is an enormous pressure on the health service.”

So the government is giving away loans and unprecedented business rate breaks...
A Tory government mortgaging not our children but our children’s children’s future...
I think we should all be extremely worried.....
Be safe

What exactly do people want the government to do?
Shut schools down so kids can stay at home and do what?? What about NHS workers, how do they look after their kids?
Without access to the new financial support package, many businesses will go under altogether in the next couple of months - surely that would a worse scenario than anything else.
Lockdown in Italy hasn’t slowed down the death rate....
Shocking
Absolute disaster
Feel so sorry for children aged 16-18
This is going to haunt their future
Complete FarceThey’ll just get their predicted grades.
Boris said that all pupils will get their GCSE and A-Level qualifications but how? He didn’t say

Exactly
These fools have it all wrong. Panic buying, hoarding, schools being shut down, recreation being ceased

You guys have to view stats.
Italy went from 335 cases per day on Mar 2...
TO
3497 cases per day on Mar 14 with things rate of growth stabilising.
Their daily new cases in last 4 days:
3497
3590
3233
3526
Had they NOT locked down their country, in 30 days they would have hit 100,000 cases per day...
and in 45 days...they would have hit 1.8 million cases per day.
Even if they contained hard, the actual numbers would have been ridiculous too.

If you don't even realize why Italy had to lockdown to curb corona.....you aren't even qualified to debate here.
I was being nice and explaining it to you but serves me right.![]()
I thought this thread was for updates and to see how everyone was doing in london. Not a thread about pros and cons of a lockdown etc etc...
I’m just updating what I hear so that people can be prepared for it..
I have seen videos of army truck movement.

I never even argued for lockdown bhai.
It has to be strategic. Especially in countries like India and Pakistan.
But you can't equate lockdown and compare deaths in Italy. That was my point which I illustrated with math.
Sure, I only said that as it was being reported in the news.
They English reporter in Italy, she genuinely looked confused
Another reason for deaths in Italy is that the population is old. So their death ratio will be high.
wish people would stop repeating this. It might be a reason why italy's death rate is so shockingly high at the moment, but it's not why italy are badly affected. They are badly affected because it's a deadly illness. England have slightly less old people, yeah, but it's hardly solace or reassurance

Think it's better to be a bit panicky then oblivious to the magnitude of the situation like most people have been last couple of weeks. Most people I have spoken to in england arent even aware of what's been happening in Italy and spain and we are one week behind how italy was last weekstop panicking

Good luck seeing this slow down with the lockdown.
Are you in medical profession?
Lockdown in Italy hasn’t slowed down the death rate....
Shocking
No. I’m a frustrated UK citizen watching my world collapse
Are we in the same boat as those in the medical profession?

Look at this intellectual here.
I applaud you guys.![]()
People are panicked and their whole world is falling around them. Let’s be considerate.![]()
Don’t be considerate to me pal. Bring your A game to take me down with your scientific explanations

Stop acting like some tough macho man. The Lockdown is necessary.
How is it a farce? Do you understand the concept of trying to contain the spread as much as possible so the healthcare system doesn't get completely overwhelmed? We do not want to end up like Italy. Italy acted way too late.
No it’s not. The school ban is unnecessary also.
Let’s lock down and see how this pandemic stops spreading....
I am a physician in the US. Our response to the pandemic has been a joke. However, the response in the UK has been even worse. The leaders have completely failed to educate the public why this is a big deal. So people like Mr Rana here are going off on misguided rants. I can sympathize with his position, it is up to the political and medical leaders to properly explain things to people during tough times like this.
Without getting too technical, let me just explain it this way. This is a new virus. None of us have immunity against it. If you catch it, you will get sick. How sick you get depends largely on your age. Children have very mild symptoms, whereas the death rate in people above 65 is very high. The more co-morbidities you have, the higher the likelihood of getting very sick - diabetes, heart disease, COPD, asthma, etc. We have no cure, no vaccine, no medicine. Nothing. All we can do is prevent people from catching it, and the only way to do that is to limit exposures. Now in countries like South Korea, they are being very aggressive about testing. They are finding EVERYONE that has it, whether or not they have symptoms, and isolating them for 14-21 days and this is stopping the spread of the virus. But places like the UK, US, etc don't have enough tests to do this. So they are telling everyone to isolate and hoping that enough sick people also isolate and things calm down. But sadly it won't be enough, and cases will definitely spike in both countries. The hope is that at least it helps somewhat.
Its a scary time for healthcare workers. I have a 1 year old son, and I worry if i catch it what impact it will have on him. I worry for my parents who are in their 60s and my wifes parents who are in their 70s. Very high risk of mortality if they catch it. May Allah keep all of us safe!
You are a physician. I hope you stay safe and your family stays safe also.
As I have said again and again, let’s see if the lockdown works out. I’m betting that it won’t
