Has there been any instance of any team being ranked No 1 in all three formats? i don't seem to recall.. India has a chance to do that by end of this home season... here are the prediction

India can afford to lose one T20 against Australia, but they have to win the other two and win both against New Zealand. I think New Zealand will be able to win one, so maybe it will have to wait till next year.

They also have ODIs and T20Is with Sri Lanka. i expect India to win both the series, though they may drop a match. And Australia and New Zealand will win atleast one match each (ODIs and T20s). I have selected optimistic scenario (low probability but not impossible) where India Sweeps (so do Pak, SA and England). if they drop matches against Australia, New Zealand, then they will have to wait until end of Sri Lanka series. Not sure how long they can hold on to that though.. But India can be in top three in all formats for a long time to come

Regardless, if its indeed achieved it will be first ever Asian team to do so, something to brag about :salute

Actually if India achieves it, it will have a fair chance of holding on to it for some time. I know difficult tour of SA coming up, but SA can be beaten, if not a series win, INdia can get away with a competitive 4/2 (in ODIs) and 1-2(in Tests and T20i). it will hurt their ranking, but not so much that it will push them way down. They will hold on to Test No 1 longer time

A great achievement for sure. I hope team continues to build on it.

India's priority should be to become better as an away team (who cares if you are #1 - the BCCI perhaps might because that would mean additional money and the players because of justified pride as a #1) and win more abroad. If a #1 ranking continues to be within grasp still , it is welcome but not a must.

Regarding the other two formats - their priority should be to do well in ICC tournaments and always work towards bettering the dynamics and combination towards that goal. Win the cups - who cares about your ranking? SA have always been on the top with respect to the rankings. But ask any SA player or fan whether they would prefer the ranking or a cup and you would know.
