Pollock and Walsh really are in that same category: two world‑class fast bowlers whose greatness was slightly overshadowed because they bowled alongside even bigger, louder, more fearsome partners. But when you isolate their skill, consistency, and impact, they’re unbelievably similar in profile.

Shaun Pollock

  • Seam movement both ways
  • One of the best economy rates ever
  • Perfect new‑ball bowler
  • Could swing it late
  • Brilliant accuracy
  • Underrated lower‑order bat
Pollock was basically McGrath with a bit more swing and a bit less bounce.

Courtney Walsh

  • Hit-the-deck bowler
  • Relentless accuracy
  • Seam off the pitch
  • Brilliant bouncer
  • Could bowl forever
  • Master of wearing batters down
Walsh was Ambrose-lite in intimidation, but Ambrose-level in discipline.

Pollock was great in first half, Walsh in latter half of his career.

Both failed in Australia but did well in Asia. I am going with Pollock because he was probably more lethal at his peak and more impactful as well but Walsh is pretty close too.

I always found Courtney Walsh to be pretty overrated bowler. He had durability and longevity - I'll give him that.. But you can't really compare someone like Walsh to Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Curtly Ambrose, Andy Roberts.. those bowlers struck fear in the hearts of batsmen. Walsh is more in the James Anderson category. I have alot of respect for what he achieved, but when I think bowlers who personified what it meant to be a paceman from the Caribbean, he is not even in my Top 5.

The answer is Shaun Pollock.
