What's new

Credit to Misbah-ul-Haq for the series wins in South Africa?

No need. You can hire a $5 a year coach or a $5 million a year coach. The end result will be the same.

which justifies Misbah's firing, or at least he should work for $5 a year salary because that's what the job is actually worth.

Misbah isn't free of any blame or responsibility; he's just as big a part of the problem as the rest.

Anyone who thinks otherwise, needs to go get evaluated immediately for delusions of grandeur.

Yes he should be fired, but anyone who thinks that he is the reason why Pakistan is losing is setting himself up for disappointment.

A couple of years later, they will demand the next coach to be sacked as well.

No one is expecting another coach to come in and turn our team into some invincible team, at least not me.

However, a coach like Andy Flower will get the best out of these average players, they won’t win against the top 3, but they’ll be way more competitive.

Misbah has made mistakes that no other coach would make, i.e not playing a specialist spinner, playing 2 bits and pieces all rounders, getting rid of your best bowler (Amir) and replacing him with guys who have ZERO domestic experience.

Misbah is the least of Pakistan’s worries. The reality is that the players are simply not good enough.

Mickey Arthur was supposedly a professional and modern coach and he won only 7 of the last 33 ODIs that he coached against good teams, and this includes Bangladesh.

You make Misbah the coach of England and bring the England coach to Pakistan, and Misbah’s England will smash Pakistan.

We need quality players. You cannot win anything as long as you don’t have quality. It doesn’t matter who the coach is.

Blaming Misbah is a coping mechanism of our delusional fans who are unwilling to accept that our players are simply not capable.

They are unwilling because accepting this reality would create hopelessness, but unfortunately, it is a hopeless situation.

That is why they will keep daydreaming about a messiah who will join Pakistan and coach these mediocre and useless cricketers into world beaters.

Atleast we didn’t get embarrassed by second string sides under Mickey. Our issues were not being able to compete on a consistent basis against the top four sides, which is pretty much due to the massive difference in the talent and temperament of the players in the top four sides.

However Misbah has been extremely lucky that his Pakistan team has played some really substandard opposition in his tenure, and he has still managed to make a laughing stock of our national team.

Pakistan under Mickey was watchable. Least bothered with this team at the moment, watched only a bit of passage of play when Babar was batting well today, besides that was least bothered as I knew we would get smashed. I’m quite sure a lot of fans have zoned out just like me.

We will get smashed in the T20 series aswell. People thinking we will do well are in for a rude shock.

Pakistan is also worse in the two important aspect of the game that dosent need much talent; a. Fielding and b. physical fitness. Picking players like Azam khan means Pakistan hardly cares about these stuffs.

Mohd Wasim stated that he as CS wants to in special cases prioritize skill over fitness

If someone is as skilled as a David Boon or may be even Ranatunga you make exceptions, is Azam khan in that league?

First Misbah was never been a coach at highest level

And do not know what to do strategically when things don't go your way!!
Hiring him was a big mistake

I dont want to say we won WC during Mickey; but at least these average players were competing and winning at least few games against top teams

Here, we are continuously losing against B/C/D teams; and getting thrashed completely when other team played full team ;

And I think that Sourt Africa series has glossed over all the shortcomings

South Africa itself is struggling a lot (losing to even Ireland)

Misbah had the biggest opportunity to win at least 50% of games when he had to deal with lots of second string teams on different tours; but that did not happen

I've been a supporter of IK, and will be in the future.
He is after all a human and he is bound to make mistakes.
His mistakes and short coming in his personal life are none of my concern.

However, two incidents kinda irk me.

First, when IK used his influence to get Zakir Khan hired by PCB about 20 or 25 years ago. And to this date, that leech is sucking on PCB's finance, payroll and perks with no significant achievements. Nothing! Zilch!

(Wasim Akram did it too, by having his brother Nadeem Akram hired into PCB but I guess he didn't last long, and went on to setup his own betting and bookmaking den).

And second, Imran's wrong judgement on Misbah.
It's totally mind boggling that Imran's playing style is at 180 angle different than Misbah, yet IK thought Misbah's approach to the game was IK's vision. How the heck is that even possible? I can't figure it out.

IK doesn't follow much cricket other than an important test match or a crucial WC game so I doubt he knows much about Misbah's style of cricket.

This is what I think happened.
1. IK saw our performance in WC 2019, wasn't impressed by Mickey, so he decided to bring in Misbah who, in his eyes, is an upright, honest fellow Mianwalian with a test mace (obviously truth is far from it but that doesn't matter).

2. IK also believes that coaches are irrelevant in cricket and that they should only serve as mentors and guides to captains hence the appointment of Misbah (a person with zero coaching experience).

It is upto WK to convince IK that Misbah must go.

Had Misbah been fair in selection , Nawaz and Hasnain should have been in team in place of Faheem and Shadab in yesterdays match and result would have been different , par yahan to dosti yaari chal rahi hai, in fact its not good for Faheem and Shadab also their confidence also will get deteriorated . Misbah and Waqar should go ?

People crediting Misbah for the win in South Africa need to get their heads checked:

The top-order trio of Fakhar-Imam-Babar was found and made by Mickey Arthur, not Misbah. I hated Mickey as a coach as well, but I will give him credit where it's due.

The only players Misbah has invested in are:
1) Usman Qadir
2) Haris Rauf
3) Hasan Ali (post comeback)
4) Fawad Alam
5) Abid Ali

Playing against Zimbabwe with full team sums up his mind set , he does everything to save his job , doesnt care about team building or team/players .

Didn’t he do the same when he was the captain. Played Hafeez and Younis Khan failure after failures, the in th WC middle order was Haris, Misbah Maqsood and Umar akmal, he even went ahead and called his friend Jamshed only to embarrass himself.

Not at all. Had he not been Moin Khan's son he would not be selected any where.
Frightening that many of the new generation batsmen idolises Afridi the batsman who is one of the worst players to have played 300+ international matches.

Misbah is one strange individual. Opens with a spinner in a Test Match in Australia.
Here, on a spinning wicket in 2nd T20Is... England bring in 3 spinners and he still plays with just 2.
A sub-continental side misreading spinning wicket. What is he and Waqar thinking and doing?
Similar strange tactics during his captaincy days.
Babar needs to take a stand as these losses are going against his name.

Trash coaches. They are getting basic match ups wrong . Its shockingly bad considering it is 2021. Ben Jones of Cricviz absolutely laid into the clueless PAK think tank. Granted, Pakistan may not win a lot anyway but they are barely giving themselves any chance even with the current set of players.

Very true. In this day and age, to get combinations wrong, to read the pitch wrongly is enough reason for the coach to be fired the very next day. Tells you all about Pakistan cricket though, chal raha hai chalnay do attitude.

A better coach could definitely change the way we approach batting and actually have a plan on how we do things.

Just watching most our batsmen bat in ODIs it's clear that they have no plan on what to do.

An example is Fakhar who has only 2 modes, block or bust. A good coach could however teach him the art of quick singles (no idea why our own batsmen don't learn themselves) and this could help him find a nice middle ground which will greatly benefit him and the team. Same with Imam

We may not become world beaters but we probably won't dive as low as we have with this fool

The t20 series was ok.but the odi series against a weaker team is unforgivable.

Both will get a generous extension on their contract with a hike in pay to cope with inflation - guaranteed!

This is how things work in PCB.

I think they should get life time contracts with pay packets tripled and their names etched onto the corridors of PCB headquarters for such outstanding contributions to PCT.

Credit goes to Misbah for ending this streak.

When Misbah made Rizwan bat as opener with Babar, there were fans who hated this. Evern before this amtch we had experts and people saying Fakhar should play but Misbah on tv said no. The batting combination should be Babar and Rizwan.. Misbah dropped Sarfraz for this. Misbah got critiszied for this

ANd now it paid off.

Under Misbah pak had a 7-2 test record vs england. Two home test wins and two away series tied.
People like Muhammad yousaf had the galle to criticize him. Not a misbah fan at all but Pakistan have become even more negative under the new regime in test cricket.

Not a big fan of Misbah especially in limited overs cricket but the man knew his test cricket and the pitches he wanted and had full confidence in the strategy to win.

Misbah as a captain and coach had a template, whether we liked it or not. What is saqlain bringing to the setup?

Kudrat Ka Nizam

Our team, support staff and CEO are like a family, there is a tight knit group that doesn't want to do any self reflection, is ok with utter mediocrity and really just love ral mil k khaana.I wonder if Misbah and waqar were shown the door because they were challenging Babar and Saqlain is more docile.

True Saqlain does seem more docile. Under Misbah, Babar was seen as a dummy captain

Babar needs a better support and someone to challenge him and help him grow, it may not have been misbah, but Saqlain definitely isn't the guy. Ramiz needs to get off of his youtube channel, bcci bashing and focus on where his focus needs to be.

He is the reason why Pakistan cricket has been in such disarray for the best part of the last 15 years.

Babar was developing well as an all-round cricketer under Mickey Arthur but when Misbah took over he infected him with his defensive school of cricket. Ever since then Babar has stopped caring about the best interests of the team.

He only really cares about his personal milestones. This Pindi suface is just an example of how low Babar will go to pursue easy runs. He's the one demanding for these wickets and it's very easy to see that when you look at the team that's being selected.

Unfortunately Misbah's legacy of defensive and depressive cricket is still haunting us, might take a decade or so to shred that off .
