NEW DELHI: April 24 is a hallowed date in Indian cricket history, for it is the one and only Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday. A day which the Indian cricket legend’s fans the world over mark with reverence and die-hard love in the form of countless wishes flooding social media.

April 24 also happens to be the birthday of former Australia fast bowler Damien Fleming, and to celebrate it, cricket.com.au (the official website of Cricket Australia), pushed out a tongue-in-cheek tweet on Tuesday which has sent Tendulkar fans into a tizzy

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Some <a href="https://twitter.com/bowlologist?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@bowlologist</a> gold from the man himself - happy birthday, Damien Fleming! <a href="https://t.co/YcoYA8GNOD">pic.twitter.com/YcoYA8GNOD</a></p>— cricket.com.au (@CricketAus) <a href="https://twitter.com/CricketAus/status/988614485123387392?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 24, 2018</a></blockquote>

CA tried to be cheeky and some ardent fans gave it back. Its give and take. Nothing more.

So showing Sachin Tendulkar being bowled is being cheeky? Sachin Tendulkar wasn't even mentioned explicitly in that video. It's about Damien Fleming bowling a great ball to get a top order batsman out. The lengths Sachin fans go to get upset :))

Oh common , do you think it is a coincidence ?? It is cheeky not wrong. The fans gave it back without being ovee attacking. Common now in every aspect of social media.

Sachin fans should take it as a compliment that Damien Martin was wished happy birthday with a video of him getting a legend out.

Yeah gave them back by mentioning about cheating and ball tampering, something which has nothing to do with the video. Such a great retort. Sounds more like being upset to me.

People should have a sense of humor. It was freakin funny.

News out of nothing.

You post something on internet, someone or the other is always offended. Sachin fans are no exception. They will target anyone who mentions Sachin in a wrong way or even a bit of harmless fun.

OP celebrated too soon :))

I've seen that they posted it. What does it have to do with Sachin Fans embarrassing behavior though?

FTFY, the 2 incidents did not involve Pakistanis, Bangladeshis or Sri Lankans :P

Indians as expected have another meltdown over a tweet. It seems like they cant catch a break. Whole world should respect their 'sensitivity' or they will keep on crying.

There was a cricket.com.au video three years ago that showed "Junior's all time great grab" and it was that freak catch off Inzimam.

Nobody complained there.

Grow up.

Some Indians definitely take nationalistic pride a galaxy or two too far.

Why even care whether the Aussies wish him a happy birthday or not? Aussies wouldnt whinge if the BCCI didnt wish Ponting a happy birthday.

BCCI have demanded that Damien Fleming change his birth date and Australia no longer select players that have a birth date the same as Tendulkar. There will be no more bilateral series between India and Australia until CA agree to these terms.

Both share the same birthday (24 April), I found it quite innovative though to link the two.

I think almost all fans like that. not only Desi people

Hahahaha no. In football and other sports generally people here tend to see it as banter and dont give a damn about menial things like in the OP.

Not to say we have things perfect obviously not, but this sort of attention seeking and level of offense is not anything I've ever noticed from European sporting culture,

Except most people didnt care. He made his choice and most respected that. Course a minority of idiots will come to mind and hurl abuse but they exist everywhere.

Not arguing people dont bring nationalism into sports here course they do, but Indians in particular seem to attach so much pride and value in how Indians and India are portrayed or mentioned abroad. What other country would even notice another nations administrative body not wishing someone a happy birthday :))

You have got the wrong picture there. Most of them dint give back becoz of not wishing Sachin bday but because how they wished Fleming . Again unnecessary from the fans , and like you said some idiots will be there. But its not that they were aggressive.

Everyone here knows Bhaijaan is the flag bearer of tolerance, love and friendship but frankly speaking i find this tweet extremely distasteful and pathetic to say the least. The official handle of arguably the greatest cricketing nation does not need to behave like a teenage troll from Sialkot for cheap attention seeking. Sachin is a global icon today. There are far better ways to wish Damien Flemming (a great bowler in his right) without being disrespectful to Sachin and hurting the sentiments of millions of people.

Shame on you CA.

PS, Sachin is in fact recipient of the Order of Australia. The highest civilian honour there. I expect the government of Australia to put this controversy to end by issuing an unconditional apology to the cricket lovers of not just India but the whole world to whom Sachin remains an icon.

Please keep me updated on what action BCCI & GOI is taking on this.

Your Bhaijaan.

Australia needs to retire all players born on april 24th just like BCCI has retired the jersey no. 10

Sachin's Indian fans are the biggest illiterates in the whole world. No sense of humour, and anything small will hurt their sentiments. They should learn few things from Sachin's overseas fans.

Everybody has different levels of sensitivity ... what is sensitive to you is not to me and vice-versa. And FWIW I have seen plenty of Aussies getting bent out of shape when anyone talks disparagingly of Bradman.

Instead of blaming Cric Au for posting this video, maybe the fans should blame Sachin for getting dismissed so horridly. Looked absolutely clueless in the video.

I've never seen a single Aussie react like this.

This is downright embarrassing. Its almost as though his fans believe he was never actually dismissed throughout his career - he just gave his wicket away because he felt charitable.

Theres nationalism, jingoism and then there is this section of highly insecure Indian fans.

I have. Aus actually have laws to protect Bradmans name from misuse ... and you call Indians sensitive lolz

So if Aussies have laws to protect Bradman then this means that these Indian fans aren't sensitive?

Both are extreme levels of insecurity.

Also, "misuse" doesn't equate to a video of Damien Fleming dismissing him on his birthday. Sachin wasn't even mentioned in the tweet!

Nobody said Indians aren't sensitive ... just shining light on the supposedly very "secure" Aussies as people here are trying to portray.

We both know that the intention behind the video was to not exactly meant to show Tendulkar in a shining light. When you troll you gotta be prepared for a response.

Did you miss Harry Kane and Spurs fans getting offended and getting the FA to apologize for a banter tweet on a banter account just last weekend?

I know India bashing is PP's favourite pastime but let's at least show some degree of self-introspection.

Sachin fans are idiots at the best of times but strange though not surprising to see this thread descend into the usual calling of names when another thread on top on PP currently is Pakistan fans being "sensitive", "snowflakey", "whiney" etc about English media calling Amir a fixer. Sense of irony is lost on here sometimes.

A lot of people, be it Europeans or desis, are likely to get triggered or offended. A lot of people are also idiots. Especially on the internet and twitter in particular.

Using that to generalize that to a nation or race only shows one's lack of education or bias.

And both Kane and Spurs are being roundly mocked for it. Kane in fact is being slagged since that ludicrous goal claim two weeks back.

So have you or have you not "ever noticed" this in European sporting culture.

Another example from just a couple of weeks back was Liverpool fans getting offended with a teeshirt maker who had lyrics of one of Bob Marley's songs from 1996 on one of theirs.

I can find more recent examples but that's besides the point.

Mock Sachin fans for this as much as you want, don't go about claiming idiocy is unique to them. Every fanbase has them.

I still see Irish fans slagging off Henry on twitter or asking Sky to not include him on their panels.

And funnily, after this embarrassing tirade by Sachin fans, Sachin's team loses embarrassingly on his birthday with him being in the stadium :)). Karma works in mysterious ways indeed.

And you say fans are very sensitive. You're acting like haters which is another type.

I seriously don't know why Indians get bent out of shape so easily? I mean.....yar......life has so much to worry about other than a guy who has retired quite some time ago now......

Every day there is one thing which hypes up Indians. Guys you need to chill out a bit, first Afridi, than Hassan now this, these are very small things to get annoyed over.:inti

Disgraceful. Ex-Indian players and pundits need to guide their fans how to handle themselves on social media because ultimately I'm sure Tendulkar himself would find this cringey and embarrassing.

A little known fact is Australia have 9,994 people locked in jails for being disrespectful to Bradman. Some of the prisoners are as young as 15yrs with 20yr sentences.

Are they of Indian origin? :13:

Lots of Indians but 80% are from England.

Well played. However the correct term is Aboriginals. Although the current Indian fan obsession and the English/Ashes angle works too.

I remember Dickie Bird not selecting SRT in his all time Xi and there was a wild uproar from his fans. It was among the most pathetic things I have ever heard in my life.

Like the guy who has seen 50+ years of cricket can’t even select the Xi he wants?

There was also the time when Ponting won the player of the decade and India went into meltdown until they created an award for Tendulkar to win.

Tbh even Tendulkar feels embarrassed when he is compared with players from different era. Have heard him say plenty of times like don't compare me with Viv, Sobers or Bradman etc.

It's his idiotic fan base who comes up with garbage like God or "best of the best" etc. Tendulkar can't be blamed for all this..

Quite unnecessary and disrespectful from CA. Why can't they just wish Fleming without showing Tendulkar in poor light? BCCI should buy all the rights to footage of Sachin getting dismissed and burn those copies if that is the only way to protect the sanctity and honour of the God of Cricket.

I think cultural difference plays a key in here.

For example, let's say in English countries, it's ok to call the teacher "you" but not in India (there isn't an appropriate word for "aap" in English which itself shows the difference).

Hence its difficult for Indians to understand cheeky remarks and the western world also fails to understand why the Indians are offended.

I don't think it's any party's fault. It's just something that happens.

It's bit rich for Pakistani poster going on tutelage about tolerance when same people went into meltdown over DJ playing dollar sound when Amir came on ground. :))

On topic : embarrassing stuff by sachin fans.

Grow up Sachinistas!

This video is not showing Tendulkar in poor light.

If BCCI post a video of Harbhajan getting Ponting out on Harbhajan's birthday, then will there be similar reaction by Aussies?
