Cricket West Indies announce squad to tour Pakistan

With a WI C may be D team touring will you convince teams to tour? Main players are not touring and thats why squad is made up of anyone who is willing to go.

And how will that effect whether or not series goes without incident? Is that what other teams will look at, or will they look at the squad that toured? Again, the same argument could have been made after PSL final 2017, but look what that ushered in the 12 months since.

Sources state :

WI tour of Pakistan will be 96 hours long

Squad arrives in 2 batches from Dubai around midnight in Khi

No customary presser before the game is scheduled

No pics with trophy are scheduled

WI squad will go to to hotel from airport and the squad will only go to NSK on day of game (and not before)

Due to security reasons, cricketers will go straight to airport after last game

PCB have reportedly given an extra $25K to visiting players

Even Afghanistan can host a game with this much security
It will take time. Ganga was playing cricket with the children in the streets of Karachi and visited Lahore famouse places without any security with Alan Wilkins. These people have wrong perception about Pakistan and it will take some time to get better. Nevertheless there is some progress WXI, SLXI, PSL qualifiers and now WIXI. This is some great progress.

Is this Syria or Afghanistan?

And the 25k is actually a normal payment I’ve heard, since the tour is outside the FTP.

Depressing to read. Over the top or needed given the circumstanced?

Dont you think financially poor cricket boards will continue to blackmail Pakistan for more money if PCB keeps giving these handouts everytime somebody visits Pak?
This needs to stop somehow. Some diplomacy is required here.

Jerome Taylor, Shai Hope and that other spinner. Are these guys that big players that would have won WI a T20 match or pull the crowd in. All these players played in T20s in WI and in UAE and they still lost 6 out of 7 matches. Most of the people dont even know these guys. Only Chris Gayle' name would have been a big one.

Atleast Taylor Hope Gayle lewis Braithwaite Lewis are well known names.

Good luck convincing players and boards that a tour by WI D team is a credible display of security.

PSL finals or World 11 matches had known names. Why will anyone try and disrupt matches of unknown players? The attempt to disrupt is to grab headlines.

Read the conditions. No practice.Nothing.On top of that pay 25k for unknown players.

We have to start somewhere. It will be a long and slow process to bring cricket back to Pakistan full time. But atleast it has started.

Off topic but i wanna know that why didn't south Africa gave permission to Duminy to travel to pak for psl final as he opted to come on his own responsibility while five or six of their top players had came over here with world 11. Did they too came on their own responsibility? Or what?

What we humans value, cherish and love the most is our lives and our well-being. Since we have lost the trust of others it is going to be a hard process in gaining the trust back.

Bhai play PSL best 11 matches. Much bigger and well known names.

Reading this will convince any top team to come with full strength?

I don't think it will and at the moment the fact is that none of the major cricketing nations will send a full-strength team to Pakistan.

West Indies' chairman of selectors Courtney Browne has defended his panel's decision-making process, stating that "selectors' judgment is based on sound selection criteria" in light of the depleted squad chosen for the three-match Twenty20 International series in Pakistan starting on Sunday (April 1).

Browne, who took over from the legendary Clive Lloyd in 2016, commenced his controversial chairmanship stint by sacking double World Cup-winning captain Darren Sammy, developed a policy trend in last two years that has left many Windies fans, media and possibly players generally befuddled.

He made a rare public media comment outside his usual press statements via Cricket West Indies communications emails.

Browne was asked to clarify with both regular captains Carlos Brathwaite and Jason Holder as to why Jason Mohammed was chosen to be captain for the Pakistan series when he was dropped during World Cup qualifiers, over the recalled Denesh Ramdin, who leads Mohammed in domestic cricket for Trinidad & Tobago.

"Jason Mohammed is our vice captain and will lead the team now that Carlos Brathwaite is unavailable", said Browne.

This regurgitated point from the CWI press release failed to answer the question and is further example how the selection panel of Browne, Travis Dowlin & Eldine Baptiste rewards mediocrity and has devalued the West Indies captaincy by allowing any player to have the job without merit.

Another point was all-rounder Rakheem Cornwall's non-selection. Despite being the most talked about player in the current West Indies A team, he was overlooked, but his teammates Andre McCarthy & Odean Smith were called up.

Brown was questioned about where Cornwall was in his Windies team selection plans and if his perceived weight issues in eyes of some fans and media is influencing the selectors' judgement in picking him for international cricket.

"Cornwall is still a work in progress and has just started a program with our HP team which includes a full conditioning program to try to bring him in line with acceptable conditioning standards. Selectors' judgement is based on sound selection criteria", said Browne.

With obvious security concerns, Indian Premier League commitments, and selectors in some instances not choosing to consider certain players, most notably Darren Sammy, who is a crowd favourite in Pakistan, has resulted in the Windies being under strength. The experience in the squad will be provided from the trio of 37-year-olds in Samuel Badree, Marlon Samuels and Rayad Emrit.

Speaking to Cricbuzz en route to Pakistan, Emrit explained why he was always keen to tour and what he hoped the team and himself could accomplish in series. "When I saw the PSL final was in Pakistan along with seeing my long-time teammates Badree & Lendl Simmons making the trip, I was convinced to go," said Emrit.

"Also going to Pakistan last year for PSL final and witnessing the outstanding security made it easier for me."

Emrit, though, was witness to in an unfortunate bombing incident outside an Afghanistan T20 league match last September. Yet, it didn't dissuade him.

"No doubt what happened in Afghanistan was at back of my mind and the incident had my family concerned about me going back to these countries to play cricket. But even Afghanistan security at venues was outstanding generally, so I weighed up all these things."

Overall for Emrit, although a senior player for this tour, he is just taking it one series at a time - considering he's still new to international cricket having being recalled to West Indies team for the first time since 2007 during the New Zealand T20 matches in December.

"I'm also young to international cricket. If I do well here, it will help me make a name in international cricket.

"Pakistan is a talented team playing in front of their home fans, while we are inexperienced going there with not a lot of time to prepare, so hopefully us three seniors can pull out weight.

"It's always a dream to play in a World Cup and Australia World T20 in 2020 is in my thoughts, but my focus is just staying fit and hopefully getting selected for future tours. A lot of cricket to be played between now and then."

Not the strongest West Indies team but glad that we get to see cricket in Pakistan again. WI unknown players will want to do well as they will want to become regulars in the national team.
