Cristiano Ronaldo said he can continue playing for another 10 years after signing a new deal at Real Madrid.

The 31-year-old Portuguese's last deal was set to end in June 2018 but he will now remain with the Spanish giants until June 2021.

He added that the new contract would not be the last deal he signs.

"What I most want is to continue enjoying the years I have left to play," said the former Manchester United player. "I still have 10 years."

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez added: "We want to be together for many years to come."

Ronaldo has scored 371 goals since joining Real from United in 2009 and has helped the club win the Champions League twice and La Liga once.

While he wants to end his career at the Bernabeu, he admitted: "No-one knows what the future holds."

He added: "I'm going to be here for another five years, but let it be known this will not be my last contract.

"I have said many times that I carry this club in my heart, it is part of me and it is a special time in my life.

"Of course I would like to end my career at this club. I want to be here for many years to come. I want to continue rewriting history at this club."

It has been reported his weekly wage will remain at around £365,000.

Ronaldo helped Real cement their place at the top of the La Liga table by beating Leganes 3-0 on Sunday.

After the game, Real boss Zinedine Zidane described Ronaldo as "unique".

Highly doubt he's capable of pulling a Misbah given his style of play.

I feel he's already past his best and could become a Rooney type of burdensome player for Real Madrid in the near future, due to his over-reliance on physicality and pace to score tap-ins and having inferior creativity and vision compared to some of his teammates.

What do you folks think?

No way will he be playing at 41. He has about 5 years left.

10 years left .... in his modelling career ?

As a footballer he is already dragging Madrid down.

He could adopt a pirlo/gullit type role , quarterback role etc where he spots the pass or run and threads the ball through for someone else to take the glory
Not sure if christiano would be happy with that role however

The problem is that there are superior players available for that role, at least at Real Madrid.

Perhaps he would be of some use in the MLS or the Chinese League at that age, but given his preferred style of play, I doubt it would work at the top level.

Can probably go play in middle east/MLS/China during last few years to earn some hefty sums of money.. Doubt he will play till 41 at Madrid though...

I wish he had come back to United but the dream is dead...

It's more a matter of how bad MUFC are these days than how decent/good a 41-year-old Ronaldo would be.

You are the one who claimed he wouldn't hurt them at 41, to be able to play for MUFC at that age irrespective of their strength in your opinion only vindicates his greatness

No, mate. Rather, it was a slight on their current state of mediocrity. :narine

Whilst you simultaneously advocated the greatness of Ronaldo by pledging allegiance to his prowess at the age of 41 to such an extent that you feel he'd be able to compete at the highest level for this mediocre mid-ranked Mancheter United:steyn

Very well. Have it your way, mate. :danish

Does he say he wants to finish his career st Madrid
Maybe sporting would be a curtain call for him

He said he would "like to finish his career at Real", but admitted "No-one knows what the future holds."

I guess deep down he may realise how unlikely it is given Real's ruthless desire for stacking their team with extremely expensive players, who they want to be perceived as world-class.

United will take him back especially as they look to be pursuing the same galactico ensemble

Who knows what will be the state of MUFC in a couple of years... Mourinho isn't one to hang around, as his past indicates.

A Conte-Chelsea style revolution at United can't be ruled out in the coming years. If that were to happen, I highly doubt they'd chase an overpriced, over the hill Ronaldo.

The policy started with lvg not mourinho
The purchase of di Maria and falcao was the start of things to come

Well, Ronaldo is nowhere near a Madrid departure at the moment.

By the time he leaves Real, United may well have changed their policy.
