Ali Tareen's minced no words in highlighting the flaws in PSL model for the owners in a recent podcast:

"We pay a rental fee to keep the franchises under our control every year. If we don't pay, we don't have any ownership rights. Unlike the Indian Premier League (IPL), there are no opportunities for foreign investment either."

"IPL owners have the freedom to sell their teams to anyone they want, but the board only considers how much money it can raise and how it will manage the team. We don’t have such flexibility."

Response of Salman Iqbal, owner of Karachi Kings

Full story bro. I am unaware of what has happened
Ali Tareen has been slagging off PCB and the PSL management for a long time now. He’s been saying horrendous things about the organisers because he can’t get his way. He makes it sound as if the Franchise Owners are United in their stance against the PCB

Well the owner of the most expensive franchise spoke up (Salman Iqbal) and basically put Tareen in his place. I think it’s well deserved. We keep hearing one sided b.s from Ali Tareen without once hearing what the PCB and the PSL management have had to say.

bas bas enough lieing.

Salman Iqbal is angry because Ali rightly said that why is the trophy being unveiled on Salman Iqbal's dumb game show which is known as jeeto Pakistan. That is why Iqbal is angry.

What lying? Ali Tareen is making one sided claims or not? Who’s confirming them?

Ali Tareen has raised valid issues. The PSL garbage song is there as an example. Showing your so called prestigious trophy on a stupid game show like Jeeto Pakistan

So it depends on taste. You like Misbah as a cricketer. You like outdated batting in cricket. You like effeminate cricket personalities. That’s your taste. You are allowed to have it.

Some people might like the stuff PSL management is doing. It’s all subjective. Who do you want them to bring in? Cardi B in the Islamic republic of Pakistan??

Its not about taste, its about marketing and branding.

Showing your psl trophy on a show like Jeeto Pakistan or making same old Ali Zafar and Aima baig sing the same songs is boring and outdated.

Point is, as a direct stakeholder, Ali Tareen is right. PCB is angry because if a player or an employee makes a statement against them, they can take action. This is a franchise owner speaking, who has invested his own money so they cant do anything against him. Its about time, Owners step up.

Salman Iqbal is using PSL to promote his other businesses, so for him PSL or his team winning is least of his bother

Whats with the Islamic republic jibe?

Whats with the Islamic republic jibe?
It’s the reality of your situation.

How do you suggest the PCB is marketed in Pakistan??? Your players find out about surrogate betting companies sponsoring the PSL and you got it banned. How do you want to operate with Islamic radicalism effecting everything in your country??

tbf, Ali Tareen hasn’t done much to promote the league and his team’s marketing has been non existent.

The only reason why Ali Tareen was against Ali Zafar being picked for the anthem was because of the Meesha Shafi (whatever her name is) case. Hijab Zahid spoke out against Ali Zafar and Ali Tareen jumped on the bandwagon.

However, I do agree that in a country with a population of 240m, it’s the same old people getting the gig.

The only franchise owner that actually puts in the hard work is Javed Afridi.

Doesn't justify supporting New Zealand and the way he's been slagging of certain players.

Yes a strange appetite for underperforming beta males.

Misbah also had a thing for old men. Always loved picking oldies.

I liken this statement from Ali Tareen to: cutting off your own nose to spite your face.

I don't think he realized that he is insulted his own team far more than he insulted Imad Wasim.

Just goes to show you what an immature kid he still is.

Ali tareen was right. PSL has no innovation just same things again and again in every session..

I know he is owner of Multan sultan that has been captain by rizwan so it's very simple to understand who are the critics of Ali tareen remarks.

:kp

This was about his comment on Imad Wasim, not this. I couldn't care less about any of this.

accepting the failure is 1st step towards improvement . good from tareen to accept the reality unlike Salman Iqbal who has close relations with Naqvi

:kp

So Salman Iqbal is going to be the new abu for some for the next two months?

Time for JosD92 to put them all in their places.

Don’t provoke the beast.

PSL franchise owners like Iqbal are holding it as ransom and not allowing expansion and other structural changes, he is a media tycoon who is earning enough through advertisements and being a puppet of this 47 regime via his media business.

Reading this whole story, there is no connection to Bharat literally and yet the thread title is making it sound like this is yet another conspiracy from here.

So unnecessary.

Why should we trust anything you say?

Especially given your turn coat support of Rizwan and Babar.

Why would anyone support the heck you are slinging , having no idea about PSL structure and revenue generation. Tureen wants PSL to grow unlike owners such as Iqbal who are just in for razzmatazz

From what I understand, some PSL franchise owners are expressing disappointment with the PCB, as they don’t have the same level of freedom over their teams as IPL franchise owners do.
They are pushing for changes that would give them some flexibility, similar to the IPL model.

The thread title :-

Critics from India doubted us': Salman Iqbal,

What has Bharat got to do with this. The report doesn’t even mention anything about it.

Just needlessly dragging our country’s name in everything these days for click bait

Ali Tareen is paying the highest Franchise Fee out of all the Franchises i.e. $6.35 million per annum. He knows it is very expensive and he cannot recover the amount but the PCB is boasting that they have plenty of interested buyers for the Franchises from the Pakistani American and other Foreign Nationals in USA, UK, Europe, Arab states and therefore they have the upper hand when it comes to demanding the Franchises to pay the price they want for using the Franchises. The PCB reportedly is aiming to lease the next two teams at $10 million per annum each and the existing franchises are shitting bricks because deep down they know the market value of their respective franchises have gone up and the PCB will tell them to pay market price or to make way for the next available interested party in the market.

These are Ali Tareen's desperate tactics to try and put pressure on the PCB to lower his franchise fee going forward.

Also the things that Ali Tareen is complaining about as far as the lack of innovation in the PSL is concerned, the other PSL franchises have rejected ideas like the auction, holding the draft overseas, holding exhibition matches overseas, holding play off games in USA, UK so he should be directing his ire towards them vs the PCB.

I think PSL owners need more freedom so there is some substance to Tareen's remarks

This is a myth that the PSL teams don't have freedom. Look at Lahore Qalandars, they are going above and beyond with their player development programs, academies and high performance set up in Lahore. There is nothing stopping the other PSL franchises from doing the same. The reality is the other franchises have not run their affairs professionally and have not thought out of the box, they are content with paying rent and using the franchise for 2 months in the year and then shutting shop for the rest of the year.

Why would they invest in asset they don't own? You don't renovate a rented apartment. There is no incentive to think long term.

Very well said by Ali Tareen. Salman has always had a chip on his shoulder and Karachi has been the most unlikeable side in PSL history. No wonder MS has been a far more successful franchise than KK. Kaptaana will be hurting after CT debacle and youngsters failing in NZ. Not a good move by Salman to run his mouth at this time.

The things he is complaining about, innovations, auctions, direct signings, holding play off games in the PSL overseas, the other PSL franchise owners have already rejected. He should be directing his ire against them then the PCB, the PCB cannot go against majority of the franchises.

These are just pressure tactics by him to try and force the PCB the Multan Sultans franchise fee going forward.

I think I was going to support KK for my pre-partition family connections but now I shall pledge allegiance to Multan Sultans, this tweet has lost a supporter.

You compare the 2019 psl and the current psl, you will understand what he is saying.

The 2019 psl had grown from the 2017 psl, but than after that there has been no growth at all.

Psl has slowly become just another domestic tournament, but it was something else under Sethi's management.

Many of the owners dont even seem concern like united, lq and quetta. Kk is owned by media oligarch while PZ does its own efforts and doesnt look to rely on PCB. Even PZ seems to have give up

so Sethi's successors are to be blamed?

2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 were by far PSL best seasons. That i agree.

Maybe, but imo, the previous editions (2016-2019) had a few advantages

UAE pitches + Pakistani pitches gave it a nice hybrid model and it ensured balanced PSL games. For a time being i actually enjoyed PSL more then IPL since some games such as QG vs Lahore qalandars in both 2016-2017 editions were some of the best t20 cricket games I've ever watched

Whereas alot of IPL games have transitioned into video game roads, Granted this year's IPL is significantly better and more balanced then Last year IPL which was a joke.

However post 2019, the quality of the games have sucked. Bad pitches + smaller boundaries, and a Loss of identity.

I remember back when supporting a team like qalandars or Quetta actually had meaning whereas now the fan base is divided and it doesn't matter which team wins or loses cause lack of marketing efforts to connect with the audience.

Multan Sultan is the only team that gets attention but that's due to a controversial captain and not due to past identity

In contrast last years PSL we pretty good.

The final itself between MS and IU was also a nail bitter..

2023 Final between LQ and MS was also a thrilling game

Similar feelings.

I remember around 2019 you could clearly say PSL was the best league in the world. Their fast bowling quality was unreal.

Last few years they have dropped in quality

Effective and a well oiled machine can be boring like CSK (not counting current performance) . You want “unpredictably” here?
Yes I need someone who thinks Rizwan is better than Chanderpaul to teach me how to view my cricket.

Good work

who reported this?

Ali Tareen made some valid points about the branding aspect and all. But than during the trophy ceremony, his teams captain, Rizwan, showed up in a t shirt and pants.

So this makes him look bad now. Atleast walk the talk....
