Crowd chanting Parchi and applauding his dismissal: Unfair on Khushdil Shah?

Apparently he broke down in the dressing room. I hope it was due to how he played and not because of the crowd because if that is the case then he is a proper softie in addition to being a rubbish batsman.

How would you like it if 30,000 people were chanting abuse at you

First of all what’s your source or are you making it up like usual?

Secondly how would you like it if 30,000 people were chanting abuse at you

1. Please go to Twitter.com, search for “Khushdil crying” or “Khushdil broke down” and you will find multiple people talking about. As I said in my above post, that is my source although I couldn’t find the original source itself.

If so many people are talking about it, it means it was probably a dressing room leak. There is usually no smoke without fire.

2. Go to your nearest bookstore, get a dictionary and find the definition of the word “apparently”.

3. If I was a public figure, and the nature of my job involves doing a public performance that people deeply care about and pay money for and I was horrible at my job, I would expect criticism and abuse.

This is part of the job - you will get lots of love from millions of people but you will also gets lots of hatred. If you can’t take the heat then you are in the wrong profession and should have chosen a career path where you performance will not be judged by the public.

It's not his fault though, from what I know he has a very poor strike rate in T20's, so if he doesn't smash sixes, then he's probably not that type of player. He shouldn't be getting picked for these matches to begin with, the blame lies with the selectors.

If he is not good enough that is not his fault but if you are not even trying then you will get criticized. I think Khushdil wouldn't have copped the abuse had he swung his bat and got his stumps rattled on his first ball.

What frustrated the crowd was the fact that he was clearly playing for himself and hoping to score a fluke half-century to save his place in the team.

Asif Ali has been equally pathetic but since he gets out swinging, he is not getting the same level of heat that Khushdil does.

I'm assuming he's not the type of player who swings big looking at his T20 strike rate. That said from the few innings I've seen, he looks like he can hit big if he wants to. Very strange player.

He has the same mindset as Rizwan

Take your time to get in and then strike hard

That’s why I keep saying that you can probably save his career by letting him open. You have done it for one guy, why not him as well?

I honestly think you need at least one opener who can hit big in the powerplay. I don't agree with this idea that Rizwan and Babar must open because they are the only batsmen who are successful. They could just as easily play rescue innings at 3 or 4.

The biggest problem with our cricket is the cowardly mentality of our players - especially batsmen. They have got away with it for far too long playing random, inconsequential stat padding innings. And then having the gall to point at their stats when criticised. Misbah started this trend - I remember a few times where he answered his critics by pointing out his strike rate. Strike rates that were padded by inconsequential sixes when a match was lost. That template is being followed to a T by all our players since.

It’s about time things were shaken up and the team were told we’re not going to stand here and applaud your nonsense. Unfortunately for Khushdil he is the first of what I hope are many players that will be booed for their cowardly displays.

Nepotism starts in our domestics most of these players playing in first xis of our much vaunted australian system are all products of nepotism and massive age fudging. true deserving youth with talent rarely get the chance to play and be coached and developed into top pros. We may unearth a rare gem here and there but even that these days that rarely works for us anymore.

So the selectors has no choice put to pick those performers in domestic cricket who at best are club level cricketers yours shans , khushdils , asif alis , ifthikars.

He may be a flop and probably the biggest one this series, but crowd shouldn't turn on him like that. This left a bad taste in the mouth.

Asif is averaging 9 in two series now lol.
If anyone is a flop its him.

One of the benefits of playing at home is that there is no where to hide now. Players not pulling their weight were happy to meander along as there was no pressure to perform at the ground.

Although, I don't condone the mindless abuse of our players, at least they know now there are going to be people who are there that care about the team and its performances.

The fact is that there are none current T20 international level batsmen in Pakistan cricket. People need to accept this harsh fact and feel happy for the matches they are winning. Their batting starts and ends with Rizwan and Babar.
All other top teams have exceptional performers.

We will only know that once our T20 performers (on merit) are allowed to represent the country the way SA, ENG, NZ, AUS allow their fringe players to play meaningless international bilateral series!

I kid you not, if Pakistan were to have a 50 match quadruple team series against Zimbabwe, Ireland and Bangladesh, you could bet your house that Babar and Riwzwan would open the innings in 45/50 games

What a bizarre comment (and not unexpected from a Khushdil defender)

How many matches has Khusdhil won for Pakistan?

KS needs to be reported to trading standards for the misuse of the word 'power hitter'.

True. It's one thing seeing all the criticism on social media. You can just not look at it and brush all of it aside as toxicity of some fans.
It's quite another prospect altogether having the whole stadium erupt at you in anger!

I feel bad for KS on this occasion but it really shows how much more accountability the fan's pressure brings now that they are back playing in Pakistan.

Correct. Their also some pictures showing him crying under his helmet whilst walking back to the pavillion.

It’s one thing you criticise a players performance. It’s totally another to be targeted by your own fans so specifically and recklessly. For the macho (LOL) posters on here calling him a softie for breaking down, I wish you never have to face mental health issues, especially avoidable ones where your own countrymen turn on you specifically.

As for those saying he merits it for his performances? He merits getting dropped. That’s it. I’d like to see some of the same posters walk out of a stadium with thousands going after your dignity. It’s justifiable when happens to someone else. SMH.

Criticism should be given where it is valid, but abusing players and targetting them is downright disgusting. Fans have no idea what kind of effects there words and/or actions can do on the players, it could easily destory the players career.

Khushdil Shah is not good enough for this Pakistan team, specially if you analyse his performances for Pakistan. Very much a leg-side hack, absorbs a lot of dot balls as well as keeps getting constant chances.

With that being said, he should be dropped and not picked again unless he improves his game. The reality is Pakistan management are probably going to drop him on the basis of the fans wrath towards Khushdil.

Where are those pictures?

Is this what you meant?

When you are younger than the players in the team its natural to abuse them/swear at them.

When you are older than them and have been watching cricket for a while you realise its not really their fault.

Can't blame Khushdil too much and its unfair to call him a parchi.

He has dominated domestic cricket at times ( even with the ball) and his initial selection was merited.

His continual selection is a mystery but its unfair to castigate him for being one of our best players ( domestically) and not being good enough for international cricket.

Are you directing this outrage at me?

Then it's misdirected because I'm not condoning this and feel sorry for KS in this instance.

In addition to the above, the journalists should take advantage of this and direct some hard questions at the team management, Ramiz and chief selector Wasim regarding this and not let them off lightly.

It would be pleasing if they actually also mentioned that do you think it’s fair for a player to cop all this abuse when it is actually you guys to blame. You are not only destroying the team, you are affecting the mental health of players too
.

Exactly this, it was either Captain, coach , selector or the chairman who needs to be held accountable,

Im sure its one of them who is selecting these players who are not even club level...

Indeed , both are garbage and not even club level batsmen.. Somehow fans think AA is better than Khusdil..

Fans seems to be happy with 7(9) 9(6) but complaint about 20(19) 18(16) , just what these two put on scoreboard everytime they walk out..

Both together have played nearly 70 inns in T20I and yet to score a 50 ,

Asif Ali gets saved for his sixers against AFG and NZL

for 3 matches in total, he has played in 49 matches , yes next T20 will be his 50th and he still havent learnt anythig about, it painful to watch such below avg cricketers block ways for deserving players..

Fans has every right to criticise their players....but in case of Khushdil,Asif Ali and Usman Qadir it is the Waseem and management who should be criticized...the selectors doesn't seem to have an eye which can locate talent....and then PCB management hiring Saqlain and Yousuf as coaches is a torture to the cricket team..both them lack game awareness along with captain....this series is actually an eye opener....If Pak plays against good white ball opposition their weakness will be exposed and that is good.... because then after knowing your weakness you can improve by working hard and smartly....

He is just not good enough for international needs to play his cricket at domestic level.

Right, there's been support for Sharjeel, there's been support for Iftikhar and there's also been support for Asif Ali on these boards and any other flop you can name.

After the disgusting reaction of the crowd, I'm tempted to become the defacto cheerleader for Khushdil Shah on this board. Make him captain, make him opener I say!

#weareallkhushdil

I feel really sorry for the kid.

He is not a specialist batsman and should only have been picked as a spin bowling all rounder.
I'm still amazed that he hasn't bowled a single over since his re-entry in to the T20 side.

He was never gonna make as a batsman alone, certainly not yet anyway.

Criticisms against Iftikhar seemed to have toned down when he began to bowl regularly.

Basically people seem to accept his eventual batting failures if he contributes with the ball.

And it’ll be even more so with Khushdil as AFAIK he was just second to Shadab among spinners when it comes to the wicket tally (with average/SR/ER better than Shaheen, etc).

So it’ll be better for everyone if he’s used as an all rounder in T20Is and as a specialist batsman in ODIs I guess.

I think our players need to be careful here. They also shouldn't be going onto social media and retaliating, its not their place. Let the people responsible for this sort of stuff deal with it.

Otherwise, whole thing could blow out of proportion. Where's the management, the authorities? They should be telling the players not to post anything off their own back, its highly unprofessional.

lol, Misbah dealt with much worse...

Anyways, Khushdil is a bad cricketer, but how is he a parchi? Is there any proof of him being a parchi?

No matter how bad a player happy heart is that was cruel and un necessary

Very unfair . If Khushdil was not given chances, folks would say he was the missing link in the middle order especially since he had a good PSL.

Shan has earned his spot by scoring so heavily for the past 18 months across formats and the county stint

Yes he played poorly yesterday but without his innings Pak would have lost by 120 runs at max
He was the only batsman who made 50 , also no complaints on his intent , he was trying to hit but couldn’t find gaps or middle the ball but didn’t play like Babar to get to his 50.

KIA are in the team or in the close vicinity ever since Misbah become the coach cum selector ,

KI are Rizwan’s KPK friends , AA was on both Rizwan Babars and Wasim’s quota I believe..

There will be no changes whatsoever in the middle order even if Babar bats at 3 or 4 he is going to do the same , this team is gonna get mauled in ANZ

After the WT20 , people will call for changes but it is going to be the same team under Babar again.

To be honest I rather loose by 150 runs if that's the intent he's going to show.

Khusdil should ask the management not to pick him in the world cup squad and have some time away from international cricket.

Anyways, Khushdil is a bad cricketer, but how is he a parchi? Is there any proof of him being a parchi?

Not wrong there.

To me, on paper, Khushdil only brings value (however much that is) if he's bowling consistently.

What has Misbah got to do with the price of bread?

why? When you do a bad job at your workplace, do you say you resign and quit?

These things are part and parcel of professional sports. These players have fame, fortune because of the fans and therefore if they don't perform, they will have to deal with the backlash as well, if you can't deal with it then playing international cricket is not for you.

I guess for some fans they see it as having the right to shout such things having paid to watch the match.

I prefer coming out and shutting up the critics by showing what he is made of and bringing thunder and brim.hm.jpg :ba_quiet

Some of that heckling was below the belt.

It wasn’t a great performance but I do feel bad for players when stuff like this happens.

The majority of the blame goes on the team management including the selectors, coach and the captain.

If someone isn't in good space which is visibly affecting his ability to perform better, he should be moved away from the firing line for his own good. The stubborn nature of continuing to send him ahead of others in desperation to somehow spring him into some form was stupid at best. Team management needs to realize if the guy is coping well with his performance and criticism or not. It felt as if Khushdil himself didn't want to be on the ground or didn't have faith in himself to be able to do the job.

But there is some merit in his criticism as well. As a player, the least you could do is to show intent for the betterment of the team. Him knocking the ball around for singles when the rate kept rising up has been a poor sight to see since Asia Cup. Even in that match against India that we won, he was showing no intent of hitting the ball.

But one thing is that he is not a parchi. He has solid domestic numbers which is atleast on paper the main criterion for selection of a player.

Thanks for his services. In this series he has unearned his place in the side too so get him out of there. No changes means an early return home from the World Cup with Khushdil, Shaan and Haider in the middle order we will struggle for runs. Only Rizwan and Babar are any good.

County matches are different to T20's where Shaan has struggled. He has scored very slowly hence we are always behind the run rate. He always struggle to penetrate the field.

Again, you cannot have it both ways. When you are adored by millions you also risk getting criticized by millions. Some of the critics will go overboard just like how some people will go overboard with their fan-boyism.

Waqar was slapped by a Pakistani fan on the plane back home after he got tonked by Jadeja in the 96 quarterfinal, Misbah was called a coward on his face, Indian players had their effigies burned and received death threats after the 2003 World Cup final.

These are just a few examples you can carry on. Imam has been taking the parchi jibes on the chin even though he didn’t deserve it and he is a million times better player than Khushdil.

When you become a public figure you become public property and you cannot control and regulate people’s actions and reactions. I won’t say that people who were calling him parchi in the stadium did the right thing or did not do the right thing; all I am saying is that it will happen.

The onus is on the players to learn to desensitize themselves. You will not be able to survive the pressure if you react to everything.

Khushdil needs to toughen up.

He has the same mindset as Rizwan

That’s why I keep saying that you can probably save his career by letting him open. You have done it for one guy, why not him as well?

Give him 10 innings at top I can bet even if he takes ten over to get in he will not average even half of Riz the gulf in batting quality is huge.

Not going to lie, you're spot on here

You are wrong

Khushdil has way more shots and range when he is in his zone.

He is a dangerous player but he never gets there and we never see it.

LOL man. Have you seen that guy bat?? What range? What are you talking about? He is the worst player ever to play for this many matches without getting the boot.

Hasan ali won us the ICC CT..
That was 5 years ago. He is absolute trash. He has been trash for so long now. Obviously he comes in support of another useless player like him.
Khushdil useless shah drops catches like him he misfields like him. He is just awful just like him.

I hope i never seen that khushdil guy and that Hasan loser guy.

LOL man. Have you seen that guy bat?? What range? What are you talking about? He is the worst player ever to play for this many matches without getting the boot.

Yeah I’ve seen all of them bat. Not just here but in PSL and national cup

They are different players at different levels and in different environments

Khushdil will be a different player under Rizwan, but absolutely no one under Babar.

I guess for some fans they see it as having the right to shout such things having paid to watch the match.

The way he was playing the match was embarrassing. He didn't even try to hit out not that he has talent or skills to score fast but he should have tried atleast.
He deserves to be called a parchi. He is the ultimate trash and he has been given so so so many chances without scoring single time. He has only has scored against mighty Hong Kong. He drops catches he gives away runs.

I really hope i never see him in Pakistan squad again. It boils my blood so much.

For what it's worth, I thought Khushdil looked a decent bat from the few games I've watched. He can hit big when he wants, but seems to be very cautious in a lot of games, maybe trying to get a score under his belt to secure his position as Mamoon has suggested. His strike rate is terrible for a middle order batsman though, he can't justify that.

Yeah I’ve seen all of them bat. Not just here but in PSL and national cup

Khushdil will be a different player under Rizwan, but absolutely no one under Babar.

It's not environment thing. He is just not good enough. He has been given more than 20 matches now. How many chances does he need more?
He just doesn't have skills or any talent. He can only hit 130 ks medium pacers and only if they feed him the length ball other than that he is absolute trash. He can't play spin and he certainly can't play pace at all.

I never want to see this fraud again.

Hasan ali won us the ICC CT..

That was many years ago. Hasan Ali has been terrible for a long time now and deserved to be dropped. He's gotten many undeserved chances recently despite terrible performances.

Based on the way he batted in this game as well as in many recent matches, no wonder the crowd turned on him. These players are not used to playing in front of packed, emotional Pakistani crowds. They've gotten used to playing selfish innings in front of empty stands where there is no immediate feedback for a terrible performance. The ones who really deserved the criticism though are the captain, coach and chief selector. Its become clear for sometime that Khushdil doesnt have what it takes to perform at the international level against decent quality bowling (similar to Asif Ali). Yet the captain insists on his selection in the squad and playing him in every XI.

It’s the same with Hasnain. There’s a pervasive belief in that dressing room that trail by fire when you’re struggling the most is the best way to forge better players. If that was true, it’s interesting how it’s only the Pakistan think tank which has is figured out. And still gets no results from it at the end of the day. Need a proper coach and a sports psychologist travelling with the team. Would do better than M. Yousuf as a batting coach in a T20 World Cup year.

England have also been criticized for the same with Zak Crawley. Mcullum has time and again told the press to get lost and has ignored everybody and given Crawley guarantees that he won't be dropped come what may for an entire 5 Test Series. And this is after his stats were making negative records and people were begging for his exclusion before the series started.

I feel if you back a struggling player, you have to tell them they are first choice till 'X' time and you're not going to drop them in the middle of the series no matter what. No matter how good the player, everyone plays worse under pressure or if they know one bad performance can end their career. As a batsman one mistake can literally end your career and making a player play T20s under such conditions is cruel. To be very honest, everyone knew the game was over as soon as Babar and Rizwan were out. It's just that Khushdil batted too slow for everyone's taste. It was selfish, but really not especially or extremely so. Maybe there was some 1% chance of Pakistan winning if he had exploded from Ball 1. Knowing his capabilities and the pressure he was under it's unrealistic.

This issue with Pakistan is broader than Khushdil. I don't want to come across as over-critical of Pakistan's cricketing culture, which in many ways is better than ours, but it seems like nobody in Pakistan has an understanding of sample size, variance or statistics. At any rate if they do, they can't get to a position in charge. Pakistan continuously chops and changes players and there is almost nobody who can keep their place through two bad series. That's not conducive to giving players the right frame of mind.

Yes Khushdil has played 34 international matches. I doubt he's played a single game with the confidence of knowing that he's going to play if he has two bad games in a row. Many Pakistan players play 60/70 games like that. You cannot play T20 well on that basis. Take a look at Rishabh Pant and his T20I stats it's basically similar to Khusdhil. Ok, you can say Khushdil Shah has no talent as a cricketer. Nobody can say this about Rishabh Pant, but if you are batted down the order, given no security and constantly under pressure, no one will perform. Pant can't do it in T20s even though his place in other formats is secure, he is viewed as a generational talent by many and he's even captained India a few months back.

Pakistan always has a chance because there's a lot of talent, but a better process is needed of handling players.

If you have seen khushdil Shah bat you will understand that this guy is very limited in talent and stroke play. He can't score against fast bowlers at all. He doesn't have the skills.

Even 130 ks bouncers were rattling him. He doesn't move his feet a centimetre he can't read the length he is always late on the ball. He is absolutely horrible player.

His stats are just awful he has scored 309 runs and he has scored 52 against Zimbabwe and 35 against Hong Kong and these are the two team he has strike rate above 120 and against England he averages 20 with strike rate of 112.

He has played against all teams from Bangladesh to Afghanistan and his strike rate is less than 100 against all these teams. He is really horrible.

I agree there's some merit to all of these points. I want to make some responses.

1) I don't think evaluating his technique is appropriate. For two reasons. Firstly, because many players with bad technique have good results and the other way around also. Secondly, just looking at his statistics over a decent sample size is better, since if his technical flaws will affect his result that will already show in his statistical record.

2) His stats internationally are very poor, but that's a sample size of 20 games spread out across a long period and without backing as I mentioned. Even great T20 players (and nobody least of all me, is saying that Khushdil is great) can struggle over 20 innings, especially at 5/6/7. Does he have potential? If not why does he always do so well for Multan Sultans. PSL does have good bowlers honestly.

3) My point is much broader than this. Personally I would want him out and Azam Khan in. But would Azam Khan get proper backing either? No, not at all and this is the point I'm making. Only superstars in Pakistan get long ropes and even then it's much shorter than anywhere else. And it doesn't look like even Liam Livingstone or Tim David or Harry Brook would be treated any better if they had been Pakistani.

Cannot blame the crowd in this instance. If they see players that are playing a match losing innings on a consistent basis, you can't expect them to sit quietly and see their hard earned money go down the drain.

Not contributing despite trying is one thing, but playing for yourself and throwing the team's cause out the window is unacceptable.

Rizwan deserved the same treatment for the way he played the Asia Cup final.

Criticism is understandable when a player is not performing but it's pretty dumb to call every non performing player a parchi when he struggles. At the end of the day, Khushdil has performed quite a bit in domestic and deservingly got a chance in International cricket. He is struggling in International cricket but it doesn't mean he is a parchi.

Unfortunately, a lot of players struggle in International cricket and it is what it is. Abusing them or calling them parchi isn't necessary. Up to management to stop playing him and send him back to domestic to improve upon his game.

Shahid Afridi :

“Achhe kapde pehenke banda achha toh lag jaata hai, but asal cheez toh performance hain. Baalo me conditioning karke taiyaar hone se kuch nahi hota. Asal cheez performances hain. Performance aapko khoobsurat banaati hai. International cricket is all about pressure, aur depend karta hai players pe, ki kaise vo pressure handle karte hain (You can wear good clothes and apply hair conditioner all you want, but in the end, it’s your performances that matter. International cricket is all about pressure and it depends on the players on how they handle it.)

“See, there is no doubt that when you give consistent performances, the crowd will worship you. Poor form comes in every players’ life, and criticism is a part of it. But in the end, you will have to make a comeback. Everyone is expecting fours and sixes from you in the lower order and if you don’t perform for 5-6 matches in a row despite being a main player in the team, then you will have to be ready for criticism"

“You have to face criticism in international cricket. You have to convert it into good performances. A player is tested in international cricket. If you have talent but you are not brave enough, you can’t face the challenges.”

What utter nonsense, this has no relevance to the situation whatsoever.

The guy got abused incessantly not criticised, end of.

If he is selected again in the playing 11. Hopefully he gets called parchi again. Atleast then team management and babar would realised how bad this loser is

A fact which people will deny.

You're clearly exaggerating, name any other pathan cricketer which was discriminated by fans or team management? You can't because there's not any. Most of them are widely loved all over Pakistan

I have even seen younis because of where he came from. I have been to countless of Pakistan games and have seen it on multiple occasions. I give some cricketer for a start shameless fixer Mohammed Asif. Look PP here.

Hate-speech or racism is a red line. And if fans indulge in that they should be thrown out.

This is not that. And at this level you have to be mentally tough enough to not only expect this but also be able to succeed despite it.

He should be dropped from the squad its absolutely not worth it fans are sick of seeing him struggle get somebody who can hold up a bat, Khusdil is a lost cause
