India washing machine launched with 'curry' button

A washing machine has been launched for the Indian market, with a special mode to tackle curry stains.

Panasonic said the introduction of a 'curry' button followed complaints from customers struggling to fully get the food off their clothes.

It says development took two years, testing combinations of water temperature and water flow.

The machine has five other cycles aimed at the Indian consumer, including one to remove traces of hair oil.
Wringing the changes

As part of the development, Panasonic researchers analysed what went into a typical Indian household's curry dish.

The firm said it then tried to establish the optimal time and water temperature required to remove the stains.

Panasonic said it planned similar machines for other Asian markets, tackling stains specific to those countries, but would not elaborate.

What next? Beef or non-beef, vegetarian or non-vegetarian?

I assumed it was just a marketing gimmick since there are desis living all around the world and presumably they haven't had a problem getting curry stains removed using standard washing machines. Maybe the stuff they eat in India is using ingredients with more powerful colouring and thus more difficult to remove?

They are literally promoting stereotypes. Next they will launch a snake charming magic been.

You can get stains from anything. Even American foods leave stains if you eat like a baby.

Tomato sauce stains are pretty common in US.

Agreed that they are promoting stereotypes.

I don't know about that. I had a friend who opened a food delivery service but didn't use any of the food colourings that you sometimes find in these products. Then he had to add them back in because he got customer complaints that the food didn't look authentic. Seems like the Brits want their tandoori chicken legs to be bright red otherwise it ain't the real deal.

Yeah, Imagine if they did the same to another community. For example watermelon stains removing button(racist stereotype about African Americans), about tacos, eating dogs or kebabs. There would be a huge uproar.
