Anyone else watching this German series? Much more complex & mature than Stranger Things..infact it is better than Stranger Things! Takes story telling & mystery to new heights. A must watch.

Did you watch with English subtitles or English dub? I ask because I looked at it & stayed away because it was native German, the reviews are great though.
 
Finished episode 3...watching more episodes when travelling back from office..

English subtitle

Crazy that ppl complain about subtitles. So you have never watched a foreign movie? Some of the best movies are foreign.

Anyway, you can switch to English dubbed on the Netflix app.

Some of the finest movies I've watched were Korean with subtitles.

I agree that it can be distracting, but start by watching English movies with subtitles then slowly switch to foreign movies, don't miss out on the great South Korean films, and others as well.
 
Fnished it today and thought it was outstanding.

Only complaint is I thought the ending left too many unanswered questions. I get that they want to leave things open which is fine but they put a big info dump in the final 5 minutes which just raised more questions than answers- Gonna be impossible to remember anything in a year when season 2 is out lol.

Never despised a character more than Jonas' mother (so many names I'Ve forgotten loads already lol). Absolutely despicable person.

Watched it in German with German subtitles. Credit where its due actors do an amazing job. Watching it in that terrible dub does such a huge disservice to the work the cast put in.
 
Soundtrack is also brilliant. Found so many great 80s tunes plus German ones

Although Walter's wife in Breaking Bad is up there as well.

Series gets better after 3rd episode.
9/10.

Freaking brilliant. Had to binge watch it completely. Yet to digest it completely. This blew me away man..

I actually like how they left the ending unanswered. Cannot wait for S2.

It’s a shame that this series has slipped under the radar because of Stranger Things & also that people refuse to watch it because of subtitles.

ST is for kids. Cannot hold a candle in front of Dark. It is a shame that people gave so poor ratings just coz it was bad lip sync. I am sure they did not understand squat!

Lol no. I watched BB twice, Skylars actions are perfectably understandable considering her husband lied to her literally from episode 1 of the entire series. I get she "got in the way" of the fun but still, the realism is what made that show so great.
 
Dark - Netflix masterpiece

Whilst most people are raving about how good Stranger Things is, this gem is not getting the attention it deserves...mainly because it is foreign (German). If you want your mind boggled, if you want drama, horror & time travel- then watch this. I have rewatched S1 & 2 and I am still putting the pieces together. You won’t be disappointed.
 
Been watching since Season 1 came out. I absolutely love it. A proper sci fi. Some great mysteries.

An absolute scorcher of a cliffhanger. Can't wait for Season 3.
 
S3 is so far another brain exercise - anyone watching? Possible the best show ever. The writing & direction is impeccable.

Typo

The themes are similar (time travelling). But that’s all. Season 2 & 3 of ST fell apart - quite average.

Dark has kept up the momentum in all three seasons which is quite rare.

havnt seen dark S2 or 3, but ST was brilliant throughout,

I have been meaning to watch this for a while, is it like a psychological thriller ? have had it on my watch list although also need to see the latest season of Stranger Things but I forgot what happened before and it puts me off having to rewatch their series all over again, may give this ago instead once am done with The Last Kingdom.

Where do you rank Dark among other stuff you have seen ?

Sci-Fi/Mystery/Drama/Thriller all in one.

My personal ranking:

1. Dark/Fargo
2. Chernobyl
3. Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul
4. What We Do In The Shadows
5. Inside Number 9
 
enjoyed the series, solid concept, decently executed. found some of the characters to be a bit boring tho. +1 point for casting of antje traue as agnes. to quote borat "very naiice"

Wow that is a pretty high ranking among an elite list of TV shows, am excited. Fargo S2 I need to see another one on me list
 
Binge watched the 3rd series. It's been a very long time since I've watched a show which covers the theme so coherently without leaving paradoxes all over the place. Excellently done and explained.

Also... how are Stranger Things and Dark comparable in any way??? Completely different shows...
 
Re-watched the entire show. An absolute masterpiece. Salute to Germans.
 
Dark is the one show that has conquered a time travel story without any plot holes because of the air tight writing and slow burn pacing
 
I've just started watching this.

Getting into it and trying to work out the characters etc.

Piece of advice, get out some pen and paper to keep track of characters. You’ll need it!
 
Have watched 2 seasons, the first was excellent; probably the best I have seen with time travel driving the narrative. However, season 2 has been a bit of a drag with the novelty starting to wear of and the heavy/annoying use of psychobabble hasn't helped. The show overall is worth a watch though, going to visit season 3 at some point

Picks up towards the end of the season. If you don’t like it after the end of season 1 then I’d say you can drop it
 
From peoples whose opinions I trust, I’ve heard that season 1 is a classic and after that it’s not that great. I don’t watch TV shows like this, lost, dexter etc anymore. Shows that are inconsistent or regress in quality later

Yea pretty much, although one thing I"ll say is the drop in quality from s1 to s2 is not as big as it was for the shows you mentioned, but just past the half way point you get a bit sick of the musical chairs. However, worth pointing out it's not easy to drive a time travel concept especially during a TV series but the germans did a good job for the most part before getting caught in a tangle
