Darren Bravo was offered a C level central contract, which he refused. In anger, he made a tweet calling the WICB president Dave Cameron an idiot.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">You hav been failing 4 d last 4yrs. Y don't u resign and FYI I've neva been given an A contract. Big idiot <a href="https://twitter.com/davec51">@davec51</a></p>— Darren Lil B46 Bravo (@DMBravo46) <a href="https://twitter.com/DMBravo46/status/796965457798594560">November 11, 2016</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

That has lead to his match/tour contract being cancelled, and he has gotten a warning to remove the tweet and issue an apology.

So in the past ten years, Lara, Sarwan, Chanderpaul, Rampaul, Jerome Taylor, Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Sammy, K. Pollard and Darren Bravo have been pushed away, as well as 5 coaches (4 who I think are still on the WICB's payroll).

Reasonable decision. No need to publicly insult your board chief while still playing, no matter how poor the guy might have managed the country's players

Bravo is at fault too and the outcome is expected but the way WICB handles its players is just stunning... amazing levels of incompetence.

Anyone can lose their temper after being offered a C grade contract despite being the best batsman in your team.

He should come here to England and play for a county, he'd have a career which is a lot more financially rewarding then representing WI's under that corrupt board. If the qualification process wasn't so strict, he could make his way into the England XI ahead of Duckett; he'd go from strength to strength in their set up as well.

So true, how the board behave with its players is nothing in comparison to that tweet expressing a bit of frustration.

A patriot never asks what country has given you. He asks what you have given to the country.

If you have disagreement, there are official ways to voice it.

Social Media isn't even a remote option.

Corruption is not one of the allegations levelled against WICB. Its the man managements/personal grudges (prefering players from certain states too at times), and distribution of funds in recent years. Poor board, offers central contract to test players only, tries to limit the contracted players to allow funds for other avenues, top players prefer t20 leagues, no communication among the two parties, hence pay disputes occur very frequently.

Dont think financial corruption is involved, a la PCB

That's not how it works. While I'm sure he is happy representing his country, this is still a job for him and he would obviously want to earn as much money as he deserves.

If you are a professional, you respect the system.

You may not respect your stupid, idiot boss but you have to respect the position, the chair.

Which country are we talking about here? West Indies is not a country.

First of all, the lack of respect has to do with the fact that the West Indies is not a country, its a group of countries under a particular entity which usually competes together to make up a sizeable talent pool.

It is somewhat like playing for Asian XI. You don't have that much passion as you have when you play for your country. Ofcourse, carribean islands do associate each other much better than how Indians, SL, BD and Pakistanis do with each other.

Bravo shouldn't have complained in public, that is outrageous. WICB is right to condemn this act.

At the same time, one cannot deny that WICB, along with ZC is a corrupt organization. Both boards are killing cricket in their respective countries and no one is doing anything about it. The players and the fans are those who lose out eventually

In before brain dead, cogs in a machine, sheep justify the fascist Board behavior of grossly incompetent WICB using non tangibles like professionalism, decency, all the while ignoring misappropriation of justice being done to Bravo.

oops...too late.

Good.

He's not above cricket and decency.

No way. Offering your best batsmen a C grade contract is the best way to earn his wrath. I think people should be shown their places when they act over-smart. WICB is a shambles everyone knows that. Don't understand professionalism argument on this thread. In what way is WICB acting professionally when they sack coaches before important tours???

Seriously disappointed to see many posters here supporting WICB

Really feel for the WI players :(

I would love to hear a word or two from Mr. Fazeer Mohammad on this topic

Which country are we talking about here? West Indies is not a country.

Country is a metaphor. It means the system.

Who hasn't faced such situations in work?

Haven't you seen less deserving people getting promoted while you are at sitting bottom though you are more efficient?

What do you do?

You write letters, applications to authority.

The lack of respect was outstanding. WICB should give him harsher punishment.

Probably by giving A contract but NO NOC to play IPL.

One should respect management for sure but not when management isn't worthy of respect

Well deserved. Doesn't matter whose fault it is, you can't call a senior board official an 'idiot' in public.

A) Windies isn't a country

B) Patriotism is extremely stupid and dangerous

Good move by Bravo. He's a human not a machine, your hard work can be spat on and dragged through the mud for only so long before you snap.

ICC should look into WICB, the past 2 years have been disastrous. Time to disband this board of cronies.

Exactly, blind patriotism is the most dangerous thing in the world. Dictators and fascists control people using the excuse of patriotism. True well wishers of the country fight the system and try to improve it (but not by over throwing the system)

Why was Bravo banned? For rudeness or for revealing internal secret?

Fact is, venting on social media is just plain juvenile - even if the monumentally incompetent WI board does push you over the edge.

PCB and WICB can seriously compete with each other on such things and both will out do each other too.

PCB has been pretty decent since Shehryar Khan took over. Even Zaka Ashraf was somewhat tolerable given who he replaced.

We earn respect. Could not force respect

Certain positions demand respect. It doesn't matter if the person occupying the position is worthy of respect or not. That is how the real world works.

For example, you might hate the President of your country, but you are legally bound to give the title of the President its due respect and honor.

Bravo's outburst is not defendable and he should apologize. His behavior was highly inappropriate.

Tolerating injustice is worse than committing injustice.

So your definition of 'not tolerating injustice' is to call the President of your Cricket Board an 'idiot' on Twitter?

That makes him a bigger 'idiot' than the President himself. There are many ways of handling this situation. Petty insults on social media is not one of them, and it has nothing to do with tolerating injustices.

Shouldn't have taken to social media to make such comments. Deserved punishment for it. Who is Bravo to call WICB chairman an idiot? There is only one idiot now who will be sat at home watching the series.

Absolutely agree with the boards decision. No matter how incompetent they are, some posts/occupations demand a certain level of respect.

You don't abuse your employer no matter how much you hate him without its ramifications.

You know what; I just can't stand incompetent, selfish and pathetic people(e.g our PM, WICB president etc etc) so I won't waste my time justifying Bravo's tweet to you.

And if you ever get the chance, do ask Bravo whether it is injustice or not.

Now this is a shocker. Who is Bravo? Seriously bro?

Good player but he's not atg to call the president an idiot. He shouldn't resort to social media

So it depends on a player's caliber to decide which player can call his board's president idiot.

Do you think this makes sense?

Why can't a player speak up against a person who has devastated his country's cricket?

Because his job is to play cricket for his country. Administration duties should be dealt with in private there is no need to call someone out in public for it.

Would you call your boss an idiot on social media?

I surely would if he demoted me while I worked my backside off for the past 4 years.

wrong way to vent ur anger. if we have learnt anything in the last few years, it's that losing it on twitter always comes back to bite u in the backside (unless u are trump).

I guarantee that many Pakistan players over the years have wanted to call PCB Chairmen and PCB officials much worse.

WICB's contracting system seems to be messed up but to be honest if you publicly call the boss of the organisation you work for an idiot you will be disciplined in any organisation. Playing international cricket is also a job at the end of the day. Not the brightest thing for Bravo to do.

Sad for West Indies cricket. Things were just looking up for them.

Brave taking WICB to court

West Indies batsman Darren Bravo has made a claim against the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for unlawful dismissal from the team that was in Zimbabwe taking part in the tri-series.

Bravo was sent home by the on- tour management committee after he allegedly sent out an offensive Tweet against the president of the WICB, Dave Cameron, has sent a pre-action protocol letter to the WICB last week.

T&T Guardian understands that Bravo’s lawyer has made a claim that the WICB sent him home unlawfully from Zimbabwe and as such they have decided to take the matter to court. Bravo’s lawyer’s letter was received by the Board last week and it will meet on the way to treat with it.

The left-handed Bravo is alleged to have made the tweet in frustration after he was given a grade “C” retainer contract by the WICB for the next financial year. Bravo who is the team’s premier batsman was not in agreement with this and hence he did not accept the retainer.

The WICB explained the reason behind it saying that there was a formula which governed which grade of retainer the players get and hence Bravo only qualified for a “C” grade. Many former players and officials have remarked that the Board should also have taken into account the player’s value to the team as a senior batsman and not only a statistical formula.

In the tweet, Bravo was alleged to have referred to the WICB President as a “a big idiot.”

The player was later summoned by the tour committee which included manager Joel Garner and coaches Roddy Estwick and Henderson Springer. He was immediately sent home from the tour and further to that asked by cricket operations manager Richard Pybus to apologise and take down the Tweet.

No apology was forthcoming and the tweet remained. Since then Bravo has been meeting with his lawyer and his domestic club, Queen’s Park Cricket Club.

WICB is incompetent, I wouldn't be surprised if Bravo wins the case or they back down.

Besides wasn't it his nephews tweet? :raina

It's only libel to call someone a "Big Idiot" if he or she is not actually a big idiot.

I presume that Bravo's lawyers will simply seek to demonstrate that the words were accurate.

Embattled West Indies batsman Darren Bravo, through a letter from his attorney, tried to clear the air yesterday concerning the “damages claim” which was first alluded to by West Indies Cricket Board CEO Johnny Grave in an article last week.

The letter from the office of Leslie F Haynes QC was posted on former West Indies Players Association (WIPA) president Dinanath Ramnarine's Facebook page yesterday.

The post also stated that Bravo “remains committed to representing the West Indies in all forms of the game, as he has shown repeatedly, but obviously in an environment of mutual trust, confidence and respect.”

The letter clarified that following Bravo's dismissal from the West Indies team for the Zimbabwe tour last year, his attorneys wrote to the West Indies Cricket Board, in accordance with the provisions of his match tour contract, which outlines a series of steps to be taken before the initiation of legal proceedings.

Darren Bravo to sue WICB, claiming lost earnings of around US$120,000

West Indies middle-order batsman Darren Bravo is taking legal action against the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) claiming lost earnings of around US$120,000 based upon what he could have earned from One-Day Internationals against Zimbabwe and Pakistan Super League (PSL) contracts and regional Caribbean competitions.

Bravo, who has not played for the West Indies since he was sent home from Zimbabwe in November 2016 following his criticism of WICB President Dave Cameron?

He had called Cameron a “big idiot” in a tweet and although the WICB president called for an apology and removal of the tweet, Bravo has not made public the apology or remove the tweet.

Sources say that Bravo appears to have rejected the chance of returning to the West Indies by launching a claim for damages against the WICB.

calling a person that is matter of opinion not a matter of fact. Very hard to adjudicate that especially to a professional who's repuation may be damaged by it.

I dont know how specfic aspects of TT law works or how activist the judges are there, but they do basis there legal system of common law. In that sense I find it hard to see where Bravo has a legal recourse except in the WICB not giving him a NOC to go play in leagues. Don't know his contract, but most that have NOCs have clauses that detail on what grounds they can be refused.

This saga is STILL going on !

A 50 over practice match between Trinidad & Tobago and the West Indies was called off with WICB refusing to permit Bravo from playing.

http://rjrnewsonline.com/sports/bravo-versus-cameron-impasse-resurfaces

The 8-month long dispute between discarded West Indies batsman Darren Bravo and president of the Cricket West Indies President Dave Cameron has resurfaced. This with news that a 50 overs practice match between the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and West Indies has been called off.

CEO of the T&T Cricket Board Suruj Ragoonath told RJR Sports on Saturday that Cameron has insisted that Bravo cannot play unless he apologies for a controversial tweet he posted last November where he called Cameron “a big idiot”.

“The West Indies Cricket Board advised us that they had a problem with Bravo playing in the game and the match has however been called off because the West Indies Cricket Board has not gotten WIPA’s approval for the international team to play at the National Cricket Centre,” said Ragoonath.

The 28-year-old Bravo has not played for the West Indies since November 3, last year. The left-hander had his match contract for a tri-nation series with Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka cancelled after making the disparaging tweet to Cameron.

Cameron made it clear in a television interview aired by "Line And Length" on Friday that Bravo must remove the tweet and face a disciplinary hearing before being allowed to resume his international career.

“What Darren Bravo has to do first and foremost is to take down the tweet. Everyday that that tweet stays up is an infraction. Secondly he needs to accept that he has done something wrong and then we can move forward from there,” said Cameron.

The Windies are preparing for a One Day International series with India scheduled to bowl off at the Queen’s Park Oval next Friday, June 23.
Just take the tweet down Darren and resume your career. You won't have much of a T20 career - you were hardly used in the IPL.

I'm actually more outraged by this post than any other I have ever seen on this forum.

If you think of Ijaz Butt or Zaka Ashraf, the position most certainly does NOT entitle them to respect.

Dave Cameron should be judged on his merits, not afforded blind and undeserved respect.

And as such, "big idiot" was a fair and accurate summation of his clownlike tenure in charge of the WICB.

He deserves the same respect as Kim Jong On, Idi Amin or any other overpromoted person unfit for the seniority of his role.

I don't think Bravo really cares anymore. Caribbean cricketers have lost the will and passion to play cricket at all. He'll make just enough money to live a sub-standard life and travel the world by playing these Twenty20 leagues.

I will stick to what I said. You can despise the individual as much as you want, but you have to respect the title and the authority that person holds. Ijaz Butt and Zaka Ashraf were not the most honorable men, but as PCB heads, they "most definitely" commanded respect and he authority over players contracted to the PCB.

You may hate your boss, but you are not goling to go anywhere if you do not give his or her position it's due respect and if you do not respect the hierarchy. This is how the real, professional world works, which I'm sure you have experienced by now.

Yes Kim Jong doesn't deserve any respect, please tell that to someone living in North Korea.

The WICB is as dysfunctional as the newly banned USA board.

Who is Dave Cameron? How did he get the job? How did he retain it? In what way is he qualified to hold the post?

None of that matters when you are contracted to the WICB, unless you wish to flush your Test career down the drain. What did Bravo get out of this? Absolutely nothing apart from missing Test matches and getting appreciated by anonymous folks over the Internet.
