David Warner leaves club cricket inns midway after sledge; "David thought they went a bit too far"

When warner was acting like a gangster, I wanted the retribution. Wanted something terrible to happen to him.

But looking back now, I really feel sorry. Sigh.. does anyone deserve this?

Here is a scenario for folks who are unable to do 1+1:

You have buddy, a friend, a teammate or a colleague who you are very close to and suddenly that person passes away due to an unfortunate accident. Then a little while later a relative of that friend mouths off at you for no apparent reason, will you respond in kind or be deeply hurt and offended?

Hope I have dumbed it down enough for the "experts" on here to understand.

Comments QDK made about his wife were unacceptable. You never say anything like that to anyone about one’s spouse even if it’s Warner.

QDK should have been banned.

Wow! So Warner suddenly develops a heart with feelings!
Deserves every bit of crap coming his way. A foul-mouthed uncouth brat - if you are man enough to give it to the opposition without caring about their situation, condition, or culture, then you deserve everything coming your way, especially since the "line" is defined by the player/team dishing it out.

Two completely unrelated incidents. Its undisputed that Warner was buddy with Jason’s brother who died in the most unfortunate circumstances. But why should Jason take that under consideration & go easy on Warner when they are playing a competitive professional match? Jason has to do whatever it takes to win a game (afterall thats the Aussie culture) & he just did that!

Look, I agree that he behaved badly for years - although Cricket Australia responded by promoting him to the vice captaincy.

Beyond that, I feel a bit like I do with Mohammad Asif.

The penalty has been set, and he has accepted it. If he tries to behave from now on, then good. But I don’t approve of double jeopardy.

I would add that you and I both know that in his Newlands presser Smith claimed that the ball tampering was planned by himself, Bancroft and the leadership group.

Cricket Australia whitewashed this by exonerating Starc, Lyon and Hazlewood based on their predictable denials.

They apparently failed to notice that the balls they were reversing after 27 overs had been sandpapered.

It was a process as rigorous and just as the Saudi investigation of the recent murder in Istanbul.

Warner was hung out to dry while the guys who handled the doctored balls the most were cleared. He could easily have spoken out and turned them in but he chose not to.

The umpires failed to notice the ball had been tampered with as well.

Warner's embarrassment to the nation is way beyond the sandpaper stuff.

He constantly acts like a thug on field and runs away with some embarrassing rubbish about crossing lines blah blah when it is returned. He has damaged the reputation of Australian cricket.

Running off the field for hurt feelings because you got called out for something you did on field is pathetic.

For no apparent reason?

Warner got suspended for a year for cheating. Its entirely reasonable for the opposition to bring it up in a match.

You can answer that question yourself once Warner's ban gets uplifted. If you think he has changed, you haven't been paying attention.

The fact that the two options you've provided are:

A) Abuse someone
B) Cry about being abused by someone

Shows just how much of a thin-skinned thug Warner is. I would imagine that the majority of cricket players would simply ignore it and move on, especially when they've been busted for cheating.

Ok so I’ve done a bit of background research. I have a source who is very much a part of the club cricket circuit in Australia as he plays there as an overseas pro. So according to him Hughes’s brother sledged Warner because Warner gave evidence at the time of Philip’s death saying ‘it was an error of Judgement’ on Philip’s behalf and that none of the bowlers were purposely trying to bowl short on the day.

As odd as it sounds, there is a bit of substance to it.

Even if they purposely bowled it short, what is the problem? Pretty sure they wouldn't have been trying to kill somebody deliberately

I do remember that testimony by Warner and thought it was strange.

I think the players questioned had some sort of idea they had to "close ranks" to protect the captain and bowler from blame. From the outside it seems odd but the whole incident was disturbing enough for them.

There was a plan to bowl short after lunch at Phil Hughes. It was a noted or perceived weakness in his game- some say the reason he was out of the Test side at the time. He used to uppercut a lot and move to leg to play through the off- he'd been working on changing that. So it is normal a state side would try to exploit that weakness.

But after a guy has been killed... In those circumstances they didn't seem to want to admit to or have to try and defend what is a perfectly normal cricket tactic.

If thats the case, Jason Hughes was justified to call Warner out/taunt him about that statement. Granted there was no deliberate intention to harm Phil Hughes, but the least the guys could have done was be truthful about it - that they bowled short as a tactic, which everybody who knows cricket would have understood. I feel there is too much groupism / subterfuge /cover-up in Australian cricket. Sounds like a shady team to be in.
