Death sentence for Blasphemy

Yes there's a lot of things in the Islamic world that are given significance for no reason. This being one of them. Irrelevant matters that take the country more into barbarity rather than civility. I do find it funny that this is offensive enough to have exemplary punishment whilst other grave matters in the country are turned a blind eye.

And his prerogative is irrelevant. He does not deserve capital punishment for sharing his thought on Social Media for crying out loud. Only radicals have an issue with these things. Grow a set.

Islam does not say that other grave matters should not be addressed , if Government neglects them they are wrong , I am not justifying that.

What I said was Islam perspective , not the moderate or liberal " Muslims" .
This is how true Islam is , and will always remain so. Islam has come to dominate and not compromise.

It makes my blood boil whenever I see Rana Sanaullah mentioned as Law Minister of Punjab.

I mean just imagine the irony of this scenario.

The guy has connections with terrorist outfits yet he holds that very position

I have no idea where we're headed :(

Its not surprising , in India you have people convicted of serious crimes as Murder holding position in the government.

to see those living in the West supporting beating up alleged blasphemers shows how far the cancer has spread. The same hypocrites who cry about islamophobia and freedom of religion at every level and discrimination against Muslims.

These Sharia warriors should be deported to any Islamic country of their choice. Maybe the Dawla to see what Sharia is like while they reap the benefits of living in a secular liberal country .

West is learning quickly about these two faced people and adjusting accordingly.
I expect in 20/30 years time, west will be an extremely tough place for the children of these sharia warriors.

Black Zero yep a lot of westerners are not accepting these individuals who dont support tolerance human rights or liberal values at all but use and abuse it to get their own rights while propagating hatred against minorities in their homelands and supporting blasphemy laws and persecution of liberals secularists homosexuals in their ancestral lands and then turning round to westerners saying our religion teaches love tolerance peace and harmony while supporting many things that are the opposite of that.

West has taken hundreds of years to rid itself of tyranny of the Church it wont be so slow to get rid of those who support the tyranny of the Mullahs on society.

Hopefully it never will be. Geez. What an idea to inspire to!

It will be, InshAllah. Don't you worry about that. Then and only then, will the country become fit to live in again. As of now, a mixture of extremism and secularism has destroyed it.

Guys lets stick to the topic instead of attacking each others personal belief.

Not sure how one can condemn the killers of that poor guy mashal khan when state itself is serving death sentence to those accused of blasphemy or encouraging such stuff.no where in quran or hadith has such injunction.it is actually something procured from medieval europe and juxtaposed in islamic code of law(fiqh).it is an archaic law that must be done away with.

How has secularism destroyed it?

This seems very insightful, as I've never heard of the deleterious effect of Pakistani secularism.

The West isn't too concerned about what two faced people think should happen in Pakistan. Anyone who calls for Sharia to be implemented in the west will certainly come under the radar though. But that's probably happened already, Sharia warriors are already on the run or underground.

They are definitely concerned...if they are not yet "too concerned" they would be soon as it's a very good indicator.

An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan has handed down death sentence to a Shia Muslim activist who allegedly committed blasphemy by posting anti-Wahhabi and Saudi contents on social media.

The court in Punjab province's Bahawalpur district announced the sentence for Taimoor Raza after holding him guilty of posting derogatory content on social networking website Facebook.

Shafiq Qureshi, public prosecutor in Bahawalpur, confirmed Raza was convicted for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the Deobandi sect, which is akin to the Wahhabi tradition and Takfirism practiced in Saudi Arabia.

"An anti terrorism court of Bahawalpur has awarded him the death sentence," Qureshi said, adding, “It is the first ever death sentence in a case that involves social media."

"The trial was conducted in Bahawalpur jail in tight security," Qureshi noted.

Raza, who belongs to the Shia Muslim community, had been accused of spreading of blasphemous contents including "hate speech."

The 30- year-old activist was detained after playing the material on his phone on a bus stop in the region, where a counter-terrorism officer arrested him and confiscated his phone.

A case was then registered against him on behalf of the State.

Takfirism is largely influenced by Wahhabism, the radical ideology dominating Saudi Arabia and freely preached by Saudi clerics. The extremist ideology has made inroads into Pakistan over the past decades.

The sentence is the harshest among cyber-crime related sentences handed down so far in the country.

The conviction of the Shia Muslim activist follows a high-profile crackdown against blasphemy on social media by the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Some political activists have blamed elements within the government for colluding with some Wahhabi royals from Arab monarchies over the issue.

Misuse of the blasphemy law in Pakistan

The developments come at a time when the Islamabad government is trying to tackle the growing militancy, political instability and extremism in the country.

Critics say Pakistan's blasphemy laws are largely misused, with hundreds of people languishing in jails under false charges. In most cases, even unproven allegations frequently stir mob violence and bloodshed.

The law has raised concerns among rights activists and some politicians who say it is often exploited by extremists or those who want to settle personal scores.

Supporters of extremist groups have murdered dozens of people over blasphemy allegations over the past few decades.

In April 2017, viral footage showing the lynching of a 23-year-old university student by sympathizers of Wahhabism and Takfiri groups in northwestern Pakistan sparked widespread public outrage.

Journalism student Mashal Khan, who had been accused of blasphemy, was beaten and shot to death at a university in the northwestern city of Mardan.

Secularism is not a good fit in a country where 99% of the population is Muslim and the vast majority is religious. Of course, not advocating for a Saudi styled Monarchy either.

So, what aspects of secularism have destroyed Pakistan?

So, what aspects of secularism have destroyed Pakistan?

It's interesting he keeps saying that, but doesn't tell us why. Also 99 percent Muslims yeah? Would be interesting to see how many there actually were if Pakistan was a secular country.

He accused me and ''my kind'' of destroying Pakistan because of our ''intolerance'', after I told him I prefer secularism, free speech, women rights, end to religious persecution of minority sects. When I pressed upon some evidence of my supposed intolerance and demanded he give me a quote of anywhere where I had been intolerant or how my aforementioned views have ''destroyed'' Pakistan, well I am still waiting on that.

From last week. So he won't answer either of you. :))
