Death toll from Bahawalpur oil tanker fire climbs to 153 [Another flips in Vehari]

I came across this, I don't follow the news so I cant say if it's 100% true or not but if you go by the news ticker at the bottom then it look genuine. This is sheer stupidity and plain greed and nothing else.
19424091_10158819453635363_6407446053972473499_n.jpg

The same things happens and people, even after seeing what happened in Bhawalpur, did what a greedy person would do.

Poor safety leads to such tragic events. The driver kept warning people to get away from the danger zone but was ignored. Pak people have no idea of what can be inflammatory.

Everyone is aware of the fact that petrol is inflammatory. People are greedy and don't care for their life, it's as simple as that. There are many instances where Pak people put their lives at risk just for fun, during these fews days of eid many will die doing wheelies and other bike stunts.

I'm very often called a pmln supporter because I don't believe in this notion that the country's condition is bad because the leaders are bad rather its the exact opposite, our leaders are the mirror image of the society.

Even if you look at it from the perspective of the oil tanker owner then the people have no right to be stealing his oil and since the oil theft is much smaller than what would ns or az would steal doesn't make it any different. Pakistan as a whole is turning into a morally corrupt society.

Another thing to note is that our people have a Chaska of free things. The people living in my area are quite well off, by quite well off I mean people who live in a house worth 4/5 crore but even these people go wild when they see free stuff. Just the other day I was going to get dahi and saw these people going wild over free rice even though they had better things to eat at home but just because it was free they were ready to do anything for it.

Everybody isn't blessed like Us.

You & Me are relatively educated so We can make better decision in such a situation.

I don't agree with it. You don't have to have a college degree or high school diploma or even be a middle school pass to know what is right or what is wrong. They were trying to take stuff that did not belong to them. They did not pay for it. They knew they were taking advantage of an accident at someone else's expense (if that indeed is what happened and if my understanding is correct). If not I apologize, maybe these people were trying to help or were told to save all that oil (probably unlikely).

For a nation established in the name of religion. a religion that clearly states thieving is wrong, we don't have any excuse for this.

Yaar dear what are yoi on about ?

Do you think we are adequately trained or are adequately faithful like uneducated(only wrt worldly edu) Sahaba RA who are our role models ? Is Masjid Madrassa Teachers doing this duty adequately ?

No. I don't think so.

Majority of Us don't have living Relationship with Allah hence we don't love Allah truly and only pray for him to fulfil our wishes.

Do you think any of those collecting stealing Oil had an Iota of Love for Allah SubhaanaTaala ? If theu loved Allah would they have even thought of stealing Oil and annoying Allah ? Never

So just because allegedly Pak was made for religion doesn't mean Majority of Us will Act as Momineens Imaandaars Righteous Ethical disciplined well mannered Pakistani Muslims.

You did not answer thay when there was unecoected power breakdown in UK & USA than why people looted shops ? Why ?

My point og education hasn't beem perceived by You properly. My point was that someone from a good school and college passed Inter genuinely would have Shaoor Aagahi Aqal IQ EQ to know that how risky this corrut act of stealing Oil could be and If there is any spark I will be burnt to Ashes hence even if there are no cameras no police I shouldn't take this gamble as I could be burnt.

So they made a terrible choice.

Hope now you understand by POV.

And what's behind it ? Religion or Good teachers ie Good schooling. That's it.

Let humans live with animals in jungle since birth and than see ethics & morals.

Biggest load of bull I have ever read. You are doing a huge disservice to Pakistanis as a nation if you claim that these people had neither good education, good faith or half decent parents to tell them stealing is bad.

That's just terrible

Thank you for getting agitated and offended.

Very tragic the loss of lives. At the root of all this is poverty, and at the root of poverty are the wrong ideas that people have which makes them vulnerable to exploitation by the elite.

For a nation established in the name of religion. a religion that clearly states thieving is wrong, we don't have any excuse for this.

Is it your opinion that the citizens of Muslim nations such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, Syria, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar etc. are less likely to steal?

No medical facilities to treat burn victims in the whole of Bahawalpur - a city of 1 million people. I read last year that funds for hospitals for South Punjab were spent on building Metros .Appalling!

i dont think it just about poverty, its also about illiteracy and lack of education and awareness

how ever poor you might be, you wont risk your life to just steal a litre of petrol if you know the consequences and hazard of lurking near an exploding bomb

And what's behind it ? Religion or Good teachers ie Good schooling. That's it.

Let humans live with animals in jungle since birth and than see ethics & morals.

Suppose a person (who is poor) has received good good moral upbringing through parents and through religion. This poor person works hard, day and night, through honest and moral means, and is barely capable of putting food on the table.

Day in and day out, in society, this person sees people lying, cheating, stealing, etc to get ahead in any way they can. And the people that lie, cheat and steal come from all walks of life, all educational and financial backgrounds.

Seeing this for years and years desensitizes this person, and he questions his moral upbringing. Then one day, this person cannot find any work. He has hungry mouths to feed at home. On the road, he sees a tanker with oil dripping out, and people in a mad rush to grab what they can. And, he joins them, because he has had nothing but strife when following the moral code, in a society where those are rewarded who take any step they can to get ahead(regardless of their educational/financial background).

Education is not the problem. The society is in a state of moral decay. The rich and poor, educated and uneducated, religious and non religious alike contribute to this decay.

Many Pakistanis are not aware that petrol is inflammatory. They tried to gather petrol because it is cheap. Can't afford to buy it from the shops.

Post of the week. This is what most of these middle class and elite class don't understand because they don't know the realities people face at the lowest level. There is an urdu quote "ghurbat bhayanak bache janam deti he"

That's not the point.

There is no way you can justify or feel ok with people stealing and blame it on lack of education.

When i was little, my mamoo use to make fun of me and bash me for not turning on some dangerous switch and plugs.
When his kids were born and was like 3-4 years old, and knew how to turn on the plug from this dangerous switch board, he would feel proud and bash me that a 4 year old is more brave and knows better then I did.

My parents always refused to let me go near dangerous switch boards, or places where naked wires were placed. Thus, till this day i will never take any stupid risk with something dangerous.

Thing is, what i'm trying to tell you guys, the Awaam in Pakistan is jahil. There is too much jahiliat.
I know alot of people died, but the reason they died was because of their own stupidity, and thats how our awaaam is.

If i'm at a public place with some friends from the main city, they will offer me food and drinks from which they sipped from. I dont eat their food or take sips from the cups they drank from. They would think that i'm some elitiest, but my reasons are simple. Dirty and poor restaurants or these road side hawkers dont offer you clean hygienic stuff. If a share water with someone i could get oral herpes

Last year i remember reading in the papers, someone whos kid was born bought Mithai from a substandard shop, distributed to everyone. 30 people ended up dieing. Reason of death, mithai was poisoned by the owners brother due to some personal differences.

I always get bashed for taking my precautions by such people.

Thing is, our awaam just doesn't care. They don't care to learn that whats wrong or right.

I have another cousin who is 12 years old and rides a bike.

This small example should give you an idea of the mentality of our awaam.
Now when they die, we are not allowed to mention the truths and facts as we are being disrespectfuL..................
But i will address the elephant in the room, look at the awaams jahiliat.

Inna Illahi Waina Rajiun!

So sad and tragic - may Allah grant these people the highest place in Jannah!

I do wonder how the oil tanker spilled though.

Just few days back, I was traveling in my city (Delhi), a tanker full of fuel (petrol or diesel I don't know) met with an accident near iron bridge (red fort), fuel started leaking.
The road was closed, pcr van arrived within 5 minutes.
Police evacuated the area. People were smart enough, not to go near that tanker and by grace of god, tanker did not explode or else many would have died.
Another accident happed just few days after, when a tanker overturned near moolchand underpass. Again no one died.

Good, apt post. When an overseas Pakistani goes to back home, many people boast "See, here 10 year old kids drive and that too without helmets." They believe it is an achievement.

There is total disregard for personal safety in Pakistan. Most every day tasks that people in Pakistan perform are extremely risky.

Some relatives even go to extent of taunting parents for such risk averse upbringing, they make fun of such kids, and call kids names like pollad (soft, tender), darpok etc.

Self inflicted tragedy.. Only a special kind of m0r0n would smoke a cigarette near an oil tanker spill. Whatever happened to common sense?

Self inflicted tragedy.. Only a special kind of m0r0n would smoke a cigarette near an oil tanker spill. Whatever happened to common sense?

Thats the thing, we take such facts as "common sense" knowledge in our lives, but that is not the case everywhere. Not everyone in the world knows that oil is flammable.

That's not the point.

I agree that there is no justification for stealing. Every religion and every culture around publicly condemns stealing. Yet we have differing levels of corruption in different societies.

The issue then is the amount of belief people really have in what is being publicly said. The more the level of inequality in a society, the less the people are likely to believe.

It just took one person in the few hundred present there to make that mistake.

As soon as the oil tanker flipped over, police should have cordoned off the area. Lack of proper safety protocols in place caused this tragedy.

agree with you but you cannot make the government total blameless for this incident. they should have reached there earlier when the tanker was overturned and cordon the area and dont allow people to go near the spilled oil. their response time was a big reason of this incident

Inequality cannot be compared with or correlated with morality. Inequality is everywhere in the world, does that mean there should be massive immorality everywhere as well?

That goes without saying! They should have gotten there, cordoned off the area and whatnot but seriously, all it takes is one idiot to start a fire in such situations whether that happens one minute into the accident or 1 hour later becomes secondary. People should have the intelligence and ethics to not turn the accident into a free langar.

If you access this situation in hindsight while involving decades than I can also say that if an idiot (un-educated) person knew that petrol is a liquid which resembles gas (fumes) and is highly inflammable than He wouldn't have lighted his cigerette at that instance and hence like before people would have stolen the petrol successfully without law getting hold of them.

Even in such situation I believe many uneducated poor deprived people wouldn't have joined their neighbours and friends in stealing petrol because of love of Allah or Fear of Allah.

Poor Morals, Poor faith, Poverty, Lack of Education, Poor Police, Poor Judicial System are all cause of this disaster. It would be meaningless to pick 1 point and use it for Point Scoring.

I still hear, "Aap kay Bachay taaz nahieen hai, Pakistan may tu bâchay kaya kaya kartay haan"... This is stupidity of epic proportion. Forget about Ethics and morals, you got to use your brain. Even animals have sense of smell, they don't come near oil

This also shows mop mentality, Which we have seen many times from Pakistan in Blasphemy, lynching and other incidents like that, where when one person starts doing something stupid(they think of it as courageous), rather than people stopping them, they join the party...Its not limited to villages, its everywhere...

This also shows mop mentality, Which we have seen many times from Pakistan in Blasphemy, lynching and other incidents like that, where when one person starts doing something stupid(they think of it as courageous), rather than people stopping them, they join the party...Its not limited to villages, its everywhere...

Agree with you Yasir bhai

I was aware of the incident from 2012 but didn't know that it happened in the same locality as the tanker incident. For those who can't read Urdu, this is what happened: A mentally handicapped man was arrested in Ahmadpur Shirqia(the same locality where the tanker incident happened) on allegations of burning pages from the Quran. A local mosque announced the allegations and the location of the police station where he was being held. 2000 people from the locality blocked the highway, attacked the police station, took the accused, poured gasoline on him and watched until he was burnt to a crisp. In case anyone missed it earlier, the accused was mentally handicapped.

Thank You for the support. JazaakAllah.

I cannot judge whether it is an Aazaab, Aazmaish or whether people's wrong horrible choice caused it. Allah knows.

July 6,2012: Ahmadpur East

On an allegation of burning the pages of the Quran,a mentally challenged man named Ghulam Abbas was arrested and brought to the police station.
Later, the mullah from the loudspeakers of the nearby mosque announced that a man had committed blasphemy and was in police lock-up. On that, the villagers got enraged, came out of their houses and blocked the main highway running through the town. They broke down the gates of the police station, took out the prisoner, threw petrol on him and burnt him alive. Approximately 2,000 enraged locals stood there until the man was completely burnt."

June 25,2017: Ahmadpur East

An oil tanker carrying 40,000 liters of fuel overturned after trying to make a sharp turn on the main highway. It was then that the local residents were told of the leaking fuel over loudspeakers from the nearby mosque prompting them to steal petroleum. A large crowd of people, including women and children carrying bottles, pots, buckets and other home utensils gathered at the scene to collect the leaked oil. And then when someone tried to make the hole in the oil tank wider with a hammer, the oil caught fire. The tanker exploded and a huge fireball enveloped the people around.
More than 155 people were burnt alive not very far from the scene where Ghulam Abbas was burnt alive 5 years ago!

This has been doing the rounds on FB. Has it been verified?

Greed, Hunger, Poverty, lack of awareness, lack of education, low IQ EQ, poor morals, poor religious values. Any or combination of these things.

Yes it is petrol.

Police isn't everywhere at all times :)

Oil tanker flips over in Vehari

As a speeding oil tanker flipped over in Vehari on Sunday, locals rushed to the scene to collect fuel from the overturned carrier, DawnNews reported.

The accident occurred after the fuel-laden vehicle was speeding on Vehari's Burewala Road. After the incident, locals rushed to the scene before police were able to do so and began siphoning fuel from the tanker.

Police reached the area well over an hour later, after which they dispersed the crowd and cordoned off the area.

The incident comes just two weeks after a similar incident occurred in Bahawalpur's Ahmedpur Sharqia area when a fire erupted at the site of a toppled oil-tanker as scores of locals collected fuel from the vehicle's spilt cargo. Police had failed to show up at the site of the accident.

And another one flips and people rush towards it not learning anything from previous national disaster :(
