Wednesday, 16 June 2022 - Abu Dhabi: The 2022 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 will take place at the Zayed Cricket Stadium from 23 November - 4 December.

This year's will be the fourth since cricket's fastest format moved to Abu Dhabi, the result of a five-year agreement between Ten Sports Management (TSM), Abu Dhabi Cricket (ADC), Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi).

The league's total economic impact value in 2021 soared to $621.2 million, while last season's competition reached 342 million television and over-the-top (OTT) digital viewers, in turn increasing Abu Dhabi T10's sponsorship value by 81 percent to $279.3 million - all new records for the franchise tournament.

There was an astounding 1.4 billion impressions across social media and more than 115 million video views for the Abu Dhabi T10's digital content, which resulted in the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 walking away with an award for ‘Best use of digital and social media in sports’ at the highly coveted Middle East Sports Industry Awards (SPIAs).

"Through our partnership with the Abu Dhabi T10, we have further positioned Abu Dhabi as a major sporting global hub and consistently demonstrated the city's ability to both build, and host, one of cricket's most entertaining competitions," said HE Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Abu Dhabi Cricket Board Member. "This is evidence of the success of a significant strategic objective of the Abu Dhabi government; to create and deliver sporting events that contribute to enhancing the emirate’s leadership in global sports."

Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman T Ten Sports Management, added: "When we first brought the league to Abu Dhabi, we had the aim of establishing it as one of the standout events on the international cricket calendar and, with the support of ADC, ADSC, DCT – Abu Dhabi and Emirates Cricket Board, we've done just that.

"The Abu Dhabi T10 is now well established as a credible form of the global game, and we see incredible growth with each edition, with global broadcast figures increasing to 342 million viewers thanks to the hard work of everyone involved - from the players to our franchise owners, broadcasters and sponsors. We will continue building on this success and we're excited to take those next steps as cricket's fastest format continues to evolve at a rapid rate."

"The past three editions of the Abu Dhabi T10 have proven that 10-over cricket has both a thriving market and engaged international audience," said Abu Dhabi Cricket CEO Matt Boucher. "With the sponsorship value at $279.3 million last year and the league's economic impact value now standing at $621.2 million, the Abu Dhabi T10 continues to bring remarkable value to all involved - both in Abu Dhabi and overseas."

Season 6 of the competition will see reigning champions Deccan Gladiators defend their trophy against star-studded sides Delhi Bulls, Chennai Braves, Bangla Tigers, Northern Warriors, and Team Abu Dhabi.
Captain Wahab Riaz and icon player Andre Russell were among the Deccan Gladiators squad that lifted the trophy in 2021 with Liam Livingstone, Eoin Morgan, Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali highlighting a group of world class players, with the tournament enjoying a depth of talent to rival the best franchise leagues across the globe.

Another stellar cast of cricketers will be selected to descend on Abu Dhabi when the 2022 Official Draft gets underway later in the year, with UAE men's national team stars again provided the opportunity to test their skills against the world's best.

The tournament's format will remain the same, with each team playing 10 league fixtures before the top four sides advance to the playoffs and final.

Dubai, UAE ( November 15, 2022) – The Desert Vipers are thrilled to announce three new
signings, to an already outstanding line-up for the UAE’s inaugural ILT20 tournament.
Scotland left-arm spinner Mark Watt is joined by England fast bowler Tymal Mills and
opening batter Adam Lyth to bolster the ranks in all departments.

Mark Watt, now famous for his little paper notes on the opposition team, played a significant
role for Scotland in the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, taking five wickets
including a match-winning 3-12 against the West Indies. Watt’s UAE experience will come
handy in his Desert Vipers’ role.

Watt is excited about joining the squad:” It’s such an honour to be playing in the ILT20
and to get the chance to play under and learn from the likes of Tom Moody and James
Foster, along with all the coaching staff - it is something that has got my Scottish juices
flowing. We have a cracking team and will no doubt play exciting cricket.

Looking ahead Watt said: “I am coming into this tournament off the back of a successful
T20 World Cup for myself, and in that tournament in the UAE last year Scotland made it
to the Super 12s, so I know the conditions very well, and we made some great memories.
I am really looking forward to making some more great memories come January.”

The spinner was ever present in Scotland’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign in 2021,
in the UAE, as they reached the Super 12s for the first time, helped on by his seven wickets
with an outstanding economy rate of 6.13.

This year Watt has been in sensational form, coming off a full season for England county
side Derbyshire, in the T20 Blast, where he took thirteen wickets and recorded his team’s
best economy rate in the competition for the season, while helping them reach the
quarterfinals. Form like that helped secure Watt a new contract across all formats for the
2023 season, having played for the county since 2019.

Watt holds significant records in the short form, as one of only two Scotland bowlers to
take over fifty T20I wickets, is second on his country’s list of highest wicket-takers in the
format and he is one of only seven Scotland players to have played over fifty T20Is.
Adam Lyth, too, brings with him a wealth of experience, having played seven Tests for
England against New Zealand and Australia. The opening batter is also in hot form,
finishing as the sixth highest run scorer in the T20 Blast earlier this year, scoring 525 runs
for Yorkshire at a fantastic strike rate of 177.36, and he was one of only eight players to
top five hundred runs in the competition.

Leading run scorer for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, Lyth scored 299 runs at
a strike rate of 175.88, including twenty sixes in eight matches, making him joint leading
six-hitter in the tournament along with Dawid Malan of the Trent Rockets. In addition to
his power hitting, Lyth will also bring with him extensive knowledge of playing in the
subcontinent, as a member of the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League, as
well as the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League.

Lyth is confident coming into the inaugural edition of the ILT20: “I am coming into this
tournament off the back of a successful short form summer for myself with Yorkshire in
the T20 Blast and with the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred. I have got lots of
experience of playing in Asia having played in both the Bangladesh Premier League and
the Pakistan Super League, so I know what to expect from conditions. It is exciting to be
involved in the first edition of a new tournament and hopefully one in which the Desert
Vipers can make a lasting impression.”

Fast bowler Tymal Mills has a background in leagues across the world, which makes him a
top signing. His recent form has been excellent, picking fifteen wickets in nine matches for
Sussex in the T20 Blast, recording one of the competition’s leading strike rates by taking
a wicket every 13.4 balls. Mills was a part of the England squad in the Men’s T20 World
Cup in 2021, in the United Arab Emirates, where he played four matches and took seven
wickets.

Speaking about his expectations from the tournament Mills said: “I am obviously a T20
specialist with experience all over the world, including in the UAE with England in the
T20 World Cup in 2021. The opportunity to link up again with my old teammate from
Essex and now head coach of the Desert Vipers James Foster is an added incentive for me
to be involved. It all means I am excited to play what I hope will be a big part in the Desert
Vipers success story in the UAE.”

The England quick has played for Brisbane Heat, Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes
in the Big Bash League in Australia, for Auckland in New Zealand and for Southern Brave
in The Hundred. In Asia Mills was a member of the Chittagong Vikings in the Bangladesh
Premier League, has played in the Pakistan Super League for Quetta Gladiators, Karachi
Kings, and Peshawar Zalmi, and was a part of the Indian Premier League for the Mumbai
Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Desert Vipers Director of Cricket Tom Moody is pleased with the new signings: ”Adam
Lyth, Mark Watt and Tymal Mills add significant depth and variety to our side. They each have
a special skill set, and vital experience having played across the world, including in the subcontinent and, in the case of Mark and Tymal, here in the UAE last year for the T20 World
Cup.

“I am looking forward to having them on our team, and I am certain they will also play a vital
role in sharing their experiences with the local UAE players in the squad. Winning the
tournament is our number one goal, but a key objective for us is also to take UAE cricket along
with us on this journey, and our three new signings are a perfect fit to help us achieve that.”
Head Coach James Foster added: “All three players are exciting Desert Vipers prospects for
the inaugural season of the ILT20, where we are keen to make a strong and lasting impact. I
know Tymal Mills as a former teammate, and have seen his excellent skills up close, and am
certain he will bring great value to our side.

Mark Watt’s consistency and wicket-taking abilities are impressive, and his top form across
the summer and in the T20 World Cup is definitely good news for me as the head coach of the
team. To balance things out, Adam Lyth bolsters the top of the order, with the perfect blend
of experience and form. I believe we have a well-balanced squad, and I look forward to adding
the UAE players to the mix for a winning combination.”

How can you have 'fans' or any following for any of these teams. There's no history, no significance, relevance and there's hardly any hunger to win or lose. It's for business purposes and if they are making money, then well done to them.

Bangla Tigers off to a winning start riding on Evin Lewis’ half century in the opening match of the Abu Dhabi T10

Bangla Tigers pulled off a sensational 19 runs win over newcomers New York Strikers in the opening match of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. The architect of the Bangla Tigers’ win was opener Evin Lewis who hit 58 runs off 22 balls with seven sixes and two boundaries to help post an impressive total of 131 for 5 in 10 overs. New York Strikers, despite an unbeaten 45 off 19 balls with three boundaries and four sixes from skipper Kieron Pollard, could not attain their target.

New York Strikers had won the toss and elected to field. Hazratullah Zazai and Evin Lewis opened for Bangla Tigers. The first boundary of the tournament came off the third ball from Romario Shepherd when Zazai hit it past the short fine leg. Lewis too hit the last ball over the extra cover for another boundary.

Wahab Riaz, who bowled the second over, struck with the second ball by getting Zazai out for 10, forcing him to top edge to Jordon Thompson at fine leg. Thompson took a brilliant catch diving full length. One-drop Joe Clarje fell to the first ball he faced from Riaz to another fine catch, this time taken by Eoin Morgan at extra cover.

Colin Munro, who joined opener Lewis, hit the last ball of Riaz’s over for a six over long leg. Munro continued to go for his shots and hit Jordan Thompson for a boundary to long-off and a six to fine-leg. Ravi Rampaul, who was introduced for the fourth over, found his third delivery cut powerfully to backward point boundary by Munro. Lewis completed that over with a six to mid-wicket. The fifth over was exciting as Lewis hit Nav Pabreja for two sixes, the first six off the second ball to mid-wicket and the second one off the fourth ball over long off. Lewis also hit the last ball for another six over long-on. At the half way mark, Bangla Tigers were on a healthy 68 for 2.

Jordan Thompson bowled a brilliant sixth over allowing Munro to pick only one boundary and also took the prize wicket of Munro with the last ball of the over. Munro’s innings too ended to a fine catch by NavPrabeja at short third man jumping and pulling off the catch on the rebound. Riaz who was re-introduced for the seventh over could not stop Lewis from going for his huge shots. He hit him for two sixes over deep square leg. Lewis reached his half century in 18 balls flicking Shepherd over square leg for a six. He also hit the next ball over point for another boundary. The total went past the 100-un mark by the end of the eighth over.

Lewis’ fine knock of 58 came to an end when Rampaul got him out to the first ball of the ninth over, caught by skipper Pollard at long on. Rampaul also got next man Benny Howell out through Powell’s second catch at long-off for 1. The ninth from Rampaul yielded just five runs and he took two wickets. The last over from Nav Pabreja was well utilized by Shakib Al Hasan who hit a boundary off the second ball, and two sixes, one of the fourth ball and another off the last ball to give an impressive total of 131 for 5.

Chasing a run rate of 13.10, New York Strikers lost an early wicket when UAE’s Muhammad Waseem got out to Shakib Al Hasan’s third ball of the first over for a duck , caught by his UAE teammate Rohan Mustafa at deep square leg. It was another superb catch of the day as he jumped in time inside the boundary line for the catch. The second over was sensational with Jake Ball being hit for 25 runs. Azam Khan began by hitting the first ball for a boundary to short third man, second delivery pulled for a six and the fourth, fifth and sixth deliveries were also hit for boundaries.

Shakib bowled another brilliant over giving away only five runs, tying down opener Paul Stirling and Azam Khan. The fourth over began with Azam Khan hitting another six over square leg but fell to the fifth ball of that over hitting to Cutting at mid-off. Azam’s 13-ball knock of 34 had four boundaries and two sixes.

Eoin Morgan, who joined Howell, lasted only four balls to score seven runs as Matheesha Pathirana had him caugrht by Howell at long-on. The fall of wickets mounted pressure on New York Stirikers, and they were 54 for 3 needing to score at over 15 runs an over. All eyes turned towards Kieron Pollard to lift the team to the target. He hit Rohan Mustafa’s third delivery of the sixth over for a six over long on. Mustafa struck to clean bowl Paul Stirling for 7. Pathirana bowled tightly and had Romario Shephered bowled for four runs. Thompson hit Pathirana’s fifth delivery for six to keep the runs coming.

Everything changed after a fine over from Rohan Mustafa who clean bowled Thompson out for 7. Though Mustafa was hit for a six and a boundary by Pollard, 46 runs were needed from the last two overs.

UAE’s Umair Ali was called to bowl the ninth over. Pollard hit his third delivery for a boundary and fourth for a six. The fifth ball saw Akeal Hosein getting run out by Hazratullah but Pollard hit the last ball for a boundary. Fans now moved to the edge of their seats with 28 runs needed off the last over. Jake Ball gave away a leg bye single to Wahab Riaz off the first delivery. Pollard hit the third ball for a six to keep hopes alive but Ball bowled a brilliant fourth delivery giving no runs and only a single to Pollard off the fourth ball. Riaz got run out off the fifth ball and Ball gave away no run to Pollard after that thus restricting New York Strikers to 112 for 8 in 10 overs.

Brief scores:
Bangla Tigers bt New York Strikers by 19 runs. Bangla Tigers 131 for 5 in 10 overs (Evin Lewis 58, Colin Munro 30, Wahab Riaz 2 for 24, Ravi Rampaul 2 for 16) New York Strikers 112 for 8 in 10 overs (Azam Khan 34, Kieron Pollard 45, Matheesha Pathirana 2 for 22, Rohan Mustafa 2 for 20)

Nicholas Pooran’s breezy unbeaten 77 lifts Deccan Gladiators past Team Abu Dhabi

Nicholas Pooran cracked a breezy unbeaten 77 runs studded with eight sixes and five boundaries to give Deccan Gladiators an impressive total of 134 for 6. Team Abu Dhabi’s batting failed to rise to the challenges and got restricted to 99 for 6 in the second match of the first day of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium. Deccan Gladiators won by 35 runs.

Deccan Gladiators had won the toss and elected to bat. They lost an early wicket when Naveen Ul Haq got Will Smeed clean bowled with the second ball of the first over. Opener Nicholas Pooran began aggressively hitting Naveen Ul Haq’s fifth and sixth deliveries for sixes. In the second over, Pooran hit Andrew Tye’s fourth, fifth and sixth ball of the first over for boundaries. Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who joined Pooran, hit Mustafizur Rahman’s first delivery of the third over for a six over long-on. He also hit the second for a boundary. Eighteen runs came off Mustafizur’s over.

The fourth over turned out to be eventful with Peter Hatzoglou striking twice. He first clean bowled Kohler-Cadmore for 13. One ball later he had Indian allrounder Suresh Raina caught by Tye at long on for a duck. But Pooran continued to hit sixes and got another one over the extra cover off Fabian Allen. However, David Wiese got run out for 1 in that over. At the end of the fifth over, Deccan Gladiators were in an uncomfortable 61 for 4.

Hatzoglou did not let the batsmen hit any boundaries or sixes in the sixth over. Pooran could not be tied down for long and he hit Tye for two sixes in the seventh over. He reached his half century in 26 balls through a boundary off Mustafizur. The ninth over saw Pooran at his aggressive best hitting Mustafizur for three sixes and two boundaries to take 27 runs off that over. This also helped Deccan Gladiators go past the 100-run mark. Fabian Allen who bowled the last over was hit for a six by Odean Smith, but he fell to the next ball brilliantly caught and bowled by Allen for 23. He also got Sultan Ahmed out for a duck to the next ball. In the end, Deccan Gladiators posted an impressive 134 for 6 in 10 overs.

Alex Hales, fresh from his heroics in the recent ICC Twenty20 World Cup, opened with Chris Lynn for Team Abu Dhabi. The first six of the innings came from Hales off Josh Little over deep point. UAE’s Sultan Ahmed who bowled the second over was hit by Lynn for three boundaries. Another UAE bowler and pacer Zahoor Khan took the prize wicket of Alex Hales in the third over caught by Little at deep point for 8. James Vince who came in began by hitting two consecutive boundaries off Zahoor.

Deccan Gladiators also got rid of Lynn in the fourth over bowled by Tabraiz Shamsi for 14. It was a brilliant over from Shamsi as he gave away just four runs and even took a wicket. James Vince lit up hopes with two sixes and a boundary off Wiese in the fifth over to take 19 runs. At the half way stage,Team Abu Dhabi were 58 for 2 needing some big hits to reach the target.

Sultan Ahmed was re-introduced for the sixth over and Fabian Allen hit him for two consecutive boundaries. A lot rested on James Vince who was batting at 33 when 63 runs were needed from the remaining 24 balls. Little bowled a brilliant seventh over trapping Vince leg before for 37 and giving away just six runs. Team Abu Dhabi’s required run rate mounted to 19.

Deccan Gladiators took a firm grip on the match by the eighth over when Helm got Brandon King out with his first ball caught by Little at deep mid-wicket for 1. He too gave away just seven runs. With 50 runs needed in 12 balls, Deccan Gladiators went for the kill and restricted them to 99 for 6 in 10 overs.

Brief scores:

Anrich Nortje Looking Forward to Debut Season in Abu Dhabi T10

Anrich Nortje and the Morrisville SAMP Army will open their campaign against the Bangla Tigers in the first game of the second day.

Abu Dhabi, 24th November, 2022: Considered to be among the most exciting fast bowlers in the game currently, South African Anrich Nortje is making his debut in the Abu Dhabi T10 this year, with the Morrisville SAMP Army.

The Morrisville SAMP Army, who will be captained by Moeen Ali and coached by Lance Klusener, are one of the two new franchises from the USA to have joined the tournament this season, making it an 8-team extravaganza. On his part, Nortje is looking forward to a new challenge, and new conditions.

“It’s 10 overs for the team and two per bowler, so it’s obviously different and an interesting format. I am looking forward to the challenge, it will be different from the T20 format. A lot will depend on the conditions and how one can sum it up, and adapt. For me it will mostly be based around summing up the conditions and then taking it from there,” Nortje said soon after arriving in Abu Dhabi.
Faced with a new team, format and tournament, Nortje noted that the overall learning and exchange of know-how at the Abu Dhabi T10 is an exercise he’s looking forward to.

“It's really nice to have a connection with everyone and learning from someone from a different country. How they go about things? How they do things. So, I think just trying to learn and maybe pick some brains and then obviously giving information as well as the tournament goes on. What might work for me as a player or for someone else. So, I think it's just about trying to get better as players as well. I think there's going to be a lot of learning and it could be something that you take into T20 cricket into 50 over cricket.”

Nortje, who South Africa’s most prolific bowler at the recently concluded T20 World Cup in Australia with 11 wickets to his name, said that cricketers do need to keep an eye on their workload.

“I think in general to try and find that break is crucial and it's so hard to find it nowadays. If you're going to try and play every format and every league, you're always going to be busy, but if you can try and find a gap, it might help. It's crucial to have that and to have an understanding of your body.”

Nortje, who considers Test cricket as the ultimate format, appreciated the set-up in Abu Dhabi and believes that the Abu Dhabi T10 is a good chance for players to fine tune their skills.

“The cricket facilities are really good. The stadiums and the wickets and the game is marketed really well too. I think the major thing for this is for everyone to learn of each other. For guys that don't get the opportunity to play a lot of international cricket, to play a lot of leagues, it's definitely something to try and benefit from. Take it forward in your game and improve your game as you go along,” the ace pacer signed off.
Anrich Nortje and the Morrisville SAMP Army will open their campaign against the Bangla Tigers in the first game of the second day. The 8-team extravaganza kicks off on 23rd November, with the final scheduled for 4th December.

Morrisville SAMP Army Squad: Moeen Ali (C), David Miller, Shimron Hetmyer, Dwaine Pretorius, Johnson Charles, Anrich Nortje, Chamika Karunaratne, Colin de Grandhomme, George Garton, Andries Gous, Abraham Pienaar, Bastiaan de Leede, Ahmed Raza, Kashif Daud, Basil Parappil, Raja Khan, Sheldon Cottrell, Karim Janat, Lance Klusener (Head Coach), Trevor Penny (Assistant Coach), James Foster (Assistant Coach), Vikram Hastir (Team Manager), Madhukar Shree (Logistics and Operations Manager), Dhanasekar Dilli (Analyst), Brett Edwards (Physiotherapist), Chandras Manchekar (Massage Therapist).

Debutants Samp Army march past Bangla Tigers through Dwaine Pretorius’ sensational bowling spell

Debutants Samp Army marched past Bangla Tigers capturing their opponents through a fine display of tight bowling. Though Samp Army posted only 100 for 5 in their 10 overs, they choked runs in the last five overs to restrict Bangla Tigers to 85 for 3 and pull off a 15-runs victory. South African pacer Dwaine Pretorius bowled a fine spell of 3 for 11 to tilt the match Samp Army’s way.

Bangla Tigers skipper Shakib Al Hasan had won the toss and elected to bowl. He introduced himself for the first over and bowled to Samp Army openers skipper Moeen Ali and Johnson Charles. Moeen Ali hit Shakib’s fifth ball for a six over long-on and along with Charles took 12 runs off the first over. Rohan Mustafa bowled the second over and gave away just six runs that included a boundary by Charles to backward point. The third over was sensational. Benny Howell had Moeen Ali out with the first ball of the over. Ali hit Howell high to Colin Munro at deep square leg for 11. One ball later, Howell clean bowled Johnson Charles for 7. Howell gave away just two runs in that over and took two wickets.

David Miller and Shimron Hetmyer, two of the finest hard hitters then came on to the crease. Matheesha Pathirana bowled a tight fourth over giving away just six runs. Hetmyer greeted Howell’s first delivery with a six over extra cover. Samp Army lost the prize wicket of David Miller to the second ball, run out while going for a second run to a throw from Ben Cutting for 3. Wickets kept falling as Pathirana forced Dwaine Pretorious to hit high to Cutting at long on for 1. Next man Karim Janat had a lucky escape when he was dropped by Zazai at mid-off to the last ball of Pathirana’s over. At the end of the sixth over, Samp Army were 46 for 4.

Jake Ball, who bowled the seventh over was hit for a boundary by Karim Janat and a six by Hetmyer. Samp Army still needed some big hits to set a reasonable target. Rohan Mustafa was re-introduced for the eight over. Except for a boundary scored by Karim to mid-off, he gave away just eight runs. The prospect of the score going past the 100 run mark began to fade.

Hetmyer hit Ball’s first delivery of the ninth over for a six to long-on while Karim hit the last ball for a boundary. UAE’s Umair Ali was called to bowl the last over. He had Hetmyer caught at long off by Rohan Mustafa for 38. His knock off 21 balls had two boundaries and three sixes. George Garton hit the first ball he faced for a boundary. Then he hit the last ball of that over to Ball at deep mid-wicket, who dropped the catch and resulted in a boundary. Samp Army thus posted exactly 100 for 5 in 10 overs.

The Bangla Tigers’s chase began with opener Hazratullah Zazai hitting Sheldon Cottrell for three boundaries. The first ball of the innings was hit to backward point boundary, the third through extra cover and fourth a pull to mid-wicket. Zazai also hit the second ball of the second over from George Garton for a six to square leg but thereafter could not get runs due Garton’s tight bowling. In the third over it was Evin Lewis who turned aggressive and hit Anrich Nortje for a boundary and a six off successive deliveries.

The 39-runs opening partnership ended in the fourth over when Dwaine Pretorius had Lewis out, caught behind by wicketkeeper Charles for 14. Zazai continued to punish Cottrell in the fifth over to score another six to mid-wicket. At the half way mark, Bangla Tigers were exactly 50 for 1.

Then began some fine bowling by the Samp Army bowlers. The sixth over from Karim Janat was an excellent one giving away just seven runs. Norte bowled a miserly seventh over giving away just three runs. This mounted the required run rate to 13.66. Pretorius bowled a tight eighth over and also took the prize wicket of Zazai, caught by Garton at sweeper cover for 35. He ended that over having Joe Clarke caught behind by Charles for 9 with the last ball. Pretorius’s eight over giving away just eight runs and taking two wickets tilted the match in Samp Army’s way.

With thirty-three runs needed in the last 12 balls, Garton choked the run flow despite Munro hitting him for a six off the first ball. With only ten runs off that over, 23 were neeed off the last over. Karim Janat’s first delivery of the last over was hit for a boundary by Cutting, but thereafter he gave only singles off the second, third and fifth delivery, giving away a total of just seven runs. Samp Army thus pulled off a debut win restricting Bangla Tigers to 85 for 3 in 10 overs.

Brief scores:
Samp Army bt Bangla Tigers by 15 runs . Samp Army 100 for 5 in 10 overs (Shimraon Hetmyer 38, Karim Janat 22n.o, Benny Howell 2 for 17) Bangla Tigers 85 for 3 in 10 overs (Hazratullah Zazai 35, Dwaine Pretorius 3 for 11)
Player of the Match: Dwaine Pretorius

UAE’s left-arm pacer Shiraz Ahmed bowls Delhi Bulls to an exciting four-runs win over Northern Warriors

UAE’s left-arm pacer Shiraz Ahmed bowled a superb last over to bag three wickets giving away just two runs to give Delhi Bulls an exciting four runs win over Northern Warriors in the Abu Dhabi T10 match at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Northern Warriors needed just seven runs to win the match off the last over but Shiraz dismissed a well-set Sherfane Rutherford for 26, Usman Khan for 47 and Mark Deyal for a duck, giving away just two runs.

This exciting match began with Northern Warriors winning the toss and electing to bowl. The match got off to an exciting start with Delhi Bulls opener Rilee Rossouw, edging the second ball from Mohammad Irfan to the third man fence. With the third ball, Irfan had Rossouw out caught behind by wicketkeeper Kennar Lewis for 4. Opener Tom Banton hit Mark Deyal’s first delivery of the second over to square leg for a six. He also hit the fourth ball to mid-wicket for another six. Of the last ball, Banton also picked a boundary to take 18 runs off that over.

Banton continued his hitting against Abhimanyu Mithun too. He began with a four to the second ball, a six off the third ball and also another boundary off the fourth ball. Twenty runs came off Mithun’s over. The fourth over from Irfan was a tight one giving away just seven runs. Junaid Siddique, who bowled the fifth over, had Jordan Cox on 11 out caught brilliantly by Deyal at deep square leg, diving to his right. At the half way mark, Delhi Bulls were 57 for 2.

Liam Dawson choked the run flow giving away just a boundary but Wayne Parnell who bowled the seventh over was hit for two consecutive boundaries by Tim David. Parnell also ended Banton’s fine knock caught behind by Lewis for 38 off 18 balls with three boundaries and three sixes. Hopes of having a big score dwindled when Mithun who was re-introduced gave away only seven runs in his eighth over.

David took on Juniad Siddiqui in the ninth over. He hit two boundaries off the first two balls and two consecutive sixes off the next two. Though Siddiqui struck back to have David out caught by Rovman Powell at long on for 42, Delhi Bulls took 22 runs off that over. Wayne Parnell who bowled the last over was hit for a boundary by Imad Wasim over mid-off. The next three deliveries were tightly bowled yet Imad Wasim hit his fifth delivery for a boundary to take 13 runs off that over. In the end, Delhi Bulls posted a challenging 119 for 4 in 10 overs.

Northern Warriors began with opener Adam Lyth and Kennar Lewis picking one boundary each from Imad Wasim’s first over. Wasim struck with the last ball of that over by clean bowling Lewis for 6. Waqas Maqsood started the second over by having Lyth out, caught by Gleeson at mid-on for 5. Usman Khan began with a boundary over gully and another over mid-off. He also cut Maqsood’s fifth delivery for another boundary. Rovman Powell hit Imad Wasim for a boundary to third man in the third over but that is the only boundary that both the batsmen could get in that over. The fourth over was a tighter over from Richard Gleeson who gave away just five runs.

From the fifth over, the big hits commenced. Drakes’ second ball was hit for a six by Usman Khan to long off. Powell hit two consecutive sixes to mid-wicket and long on. This took the score to 64 for 2 at the half way mark and Northern Warriors needed another 56 in the remaining five overs.

Gleeson struck a vital blow having Powell caught behind by wicketkeeper Tom Banton for 25. All hopes rested on a free-stroking Usman Khan. He hit Gleeson for a boundary to extra cover but could get only eight runs off that over. Delhi Bulls skipper Dwayne Bravo introduced himself for the seventh over. Displaying his skill to check the run flow, he gave away just four runs from that over. This mounted the required run rate to 14.66.

Waqas Masood was re-introduced for the eighth over with pressure mounting on Northern Warriors. Rutherford hit Maqsood’s third delivery for a six to deep mid-wicket and also scored a boundary off the fifth ball. With 27runs needed from the last 12 deliveries, it was anybody’s game. Dwayne Bravo came in to bowl the ninth over. Usman Khan lofted his second delivery for a boundary over mid-on. He also pulled the third delivery for a six to mid-wicket. Rutherford hit two consecutive boundaries off the fifth and sixth deliveries to take 20 runs off that over and virtually tilt the match in his team’s favour.

With only seven runs needed off the last over, UAE’s Shiraz Ahmed had Rutherford out with the second ball, caught by Drakes at deep cover for 26. With six runs needed off the last four balls, they took a bye off the fourth ball. With the fifth ball, he trapped Usman Khan leg before for 47. Excitement mounted with five runs needed off the last two deliveries. Shiraz gave no runs off the fifth ball and then had next man Deyal out, forcing him to scoop to Bravo at short fine leg and win the match by four runs.

Brief scores:
Delhi Bulls bt Northern Warriors by four runs. Delhi Bulls 119 for 4 in 10 overs (Tom Banton 38, Tim David 42, Junaid Siddique 2 for 27) Northern Warriors 115 for 6 in 10 overs (Usman Khan 47, Rovman Powell 25, Sherfane Rutherford 26, Shiraz Ahmed 3 for 1)

Batter Friendly T10 Allows Bowlers to Improve Skills and Implement in Other Formats As Well, Says New York Strikers’ Wahab Riaz

The New York Strikers are one of two new franchises in the 8-team tournament.

Abu Dhabi, 26th November, 2022: The New York Strikers, who are making their debut in the sixth season of Abu Dhabi T10, started off their tournament with a defeat on the opening day against the Bangla Tigers, before bouncing back in style to hand the Chennai Braves in their second game.

Speaking about the format, one of Pakistan’s best bowlers in recent years, Wahab Riaz said that the T10 poses plenty of challenges to the skillset of the bowlers.

“T10 is a very batter friendly format and in 10 overs one has capture 10 wickets to win the game. But for the bowlers, a format like this gives you great idea about your own abilities and skills. And even though you will concede runs, if as a bowler you can pick up some new skills or fine tune an aspect of your game, it will only help in the other formats,” Riaz said.

“Those learnings will help later on in a variety of pressure situations and the team and captain can capitalise on that as well.”

Another aspect which the ace pacer believes is crucial is keeping fit during such a tightly packed schedule. Riaz noted that while it is tough, it’s the kind of thing they’ve been training for all their lives.

“It’s hard but that’s what you train for all your life. As a bowler you have to deliver two overs while the batters have to bat 10 overs. It is a high intensity format, even more than T20s, but it should not affect us players really, because we train and plan for these things and situations. You have to mentally prepare yourself for this, and it eventually becomes easier for all of us.”

Speaking about working together as a team and adapting to each other during such a short period of time, Riaz explained that it is tough, but it is all about combined effort.

“It is tough when you are coming together for around 10 days as a team. Everyone makes the combined effort and with so much franchise cricket happening all around the globe, most of the players have played with each other in different tournaments. That helps in helping the team work together, and what also makes things easier is how the team management helps you settle in.”

Riaz also touched upon how the team prepares for the games, saying that irrespective of the result, the previous match needs to be put in the background.

“I think we have to forget the last game always, whether you win or lose, that’s done and we have to concentrate on the next game. Everyday is a new day and if you keep thinking about the previous day, you won’t be able to perform in the next game. So I think the best way to work is that you stay calm and look ahead to the next game,” Riaz signed off.

The New York Strikers are one of two new franchises in the 8-team tournament. The Strikers and the Morrisville SAMP Army are both USA based franchises that have joined the T10 bandwagon this year.

Nicholas Pooran enthrall fans with a breezy 80 to give Deccan Gladiators a 24-runs win over Northern Warriors

Nicolas Pooran enthralled fans at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium through an aggressive knock of 80 runs off just 32 balls studded with 10 boundaries and three sixes to steer Deccan Gladiators to an impressive 24-runs win over Northern Warriors in the first match of the third day of the Abu Dhabi T10 on Friday. Pooran, who had cracked an unbeaten 77 in their earlier match against Team Abu Dhabi, carried his form to this match too and helped Deccan Gladiators post an impressive 134 for 6. Chasing the target, Northern Warriors could muster only 114 for 5 in 10 overs.

Deccan Gladiators won the toss and promptly elected to bat. Jason Roy and Tom Kohler-Cadmore began slowly as opening bowler Gus Atkinson bowled a tight first over giving away just five runs. From the second over, Roy began to hit starting with a boundary off Junaid Siddique to fine leg. He also hit Siddiqui for a six to long leg and picked another boundary to third man off the fifth. His aggressive innings ended in the last ball of that over while attempting a huge shot, missing and getting bowled for 18.

Nicholas Pooran began in his usual aggressive style hitting Liam Dawson for a six to square leg and also picking a boundary to the same area.

The fourth over saw Kohler Cadmore opening up with a six to mid-wicket and a straight boundary. Pooran continued his aggressive shots hitting Wayne Parnell’s first delivery for a boundary to mid-on and then a six to square leg off the next ball. It was a treat to watch Pooran also pull Parnell to the mid-wicket fence for another boundary.

Rayad Emrit was also welcomed with a boundary to backward point and two balls later another boundary to mid-wicket fence. Gus Atkinson who was re-introduced was also greeted with a boundary by Pooran off the first ball. By the end of the seventh over, Deccan Gladiators were placed in a strong position at 92 for 1 and 51 off those runs coming from Pooran’s bat.

Junaid Siddiqui was re-introduced for the eighth over with Pooran in full flow. He hit him for 16 runs with three boundaries and steered Deccan Gladiators past the 100 run mark. In the ninth over, Kohler hit Parnell’s first delivery for a six to long-off. Pooran also hit a six to back ward square leg to swell the total.

He continued to greet a bowler with a boundary off his first ball by hitting Emrit to the extra cover fence. His spectacular knock of 80 came to an end in the second ball of the last over from Emrit, when he got caught at long-on by Deyal. Next man Andre Russell got run out to a wide delivery for 3. Kohler Cadmore remained unbeaten on 32 off 16 balls with two sixes and one boundary. Deccan Gladiators went on to post an impressive 138 for 3 in 10 overs.

Adam Lyth and Kennar Lewis started Northern Warriors’ chase towards the target. Lyth hit opening bowler Josh Little for a boundary off the second ball and a six to mid-wicket off the third delivery. In the second over, Lyth picked three boundaries off Odean Smith. Though Lewis scored a six off Tom Helm to backward square leg, Helm gave away no runs from the rest of the five deliveries. Lyth made up for that in the fourth over hitting Tabraiz Shamsi for a two sixes off the first and fourth deliveries. Lewis too hit Shamsi for a six off the last ball to take 21 runs off that over.

David Wiese was also hit for a six off the third ball of the fifth over. Kennar Lewis’ innings ended to the fifth ball caught behind by wicketkeeper Pooran for 19. The opening pair had put on 59 runs in 4.5 overs. Odean Smith then struck in the sixth over to remove Adam Lyth, caught by Sultan Ahmed at extra over for 51. His 22 ball knock had five boundaries and four sixes.

The mantle of taking Northern Warriors to the target now fell on skipper Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford. Deccan Gladiators introduced UAE pacer Zahoor Khan for the seventh over. He gave away a boundary and a six to Rutherford. Still Northern Warriors needed 55 runs off the last three overs. Helm proved how tough a bowler he is to be hit getting Rutheford out for 6, caught by Wiese at long on and also removing skipper Rowman Powell bowled for 10. He gave away just six runs off that over for Deccan Gladiators to take a firm grip on the match.

With 49 runs needed off 12 balls, Little was re-introduced for the ninth over. He got Wayne Parnell out clean bowled for a duck with the fourth ball giving away just nine runs. With forty runs needed from the last over, Wiese came into bowl and gave way 15 runs and restricted Northern Warriors to 114 for 5 and win the match by 24 runs.

Brief scores:

Team Abu Dhabi- Delhi Bulls match ends in an exciting tie to lit up Abu Dhabi T10

Team Abu Dhabi and Delhi Bulls battled hard for a victory but the match ended in a tie. The second match of the day in the Abu Dhabi T10 on Friday at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket stadium lit up the tournament through a thriller. So keenly fought was the contest that after Team Abu Dhabi posted 120 for 2 in 10 overs through a fine unbeaten knock of 64 from Brandon King, Delhi Bulls chased the target strongly but could only equal the score off the last ball. Imad Wasim tried hard to take Delhi Bulls past the target with an unbeaten 21.

This exciting contest began with Team Abu Dhabi winning the toss and electing to bat. Opener Alex Hales gave Abu Dhabi a quick start hitting Imad Wasim’s fifth and sixth ball of the first over for sixes. Waqas Masood ended Hales’ knock with the last ball of the second over getting him caught at deep midwicket by Rilee Rossouw for 14. Then Richard Gleeson struck in the third over dismissing opener Chris Lynn with the first ball caught by Dwayne Bravo at slip for 4. James Vince began by hitting Maqsood for a boundary to short fine leg. Keemo Paul bowled a good fifth over preventing the batsmen from playing any big shots. At the half way mark, Team Abu Dhabi was 41 for 2.

Shiraz Ahmed the hero of their last match against Northern Warriors was introduced for the sixth over. Except for Brandon King scoring a boundary off the first ball, he gave nothing away. King changed the course of the innings in the seventh over hitting Keemo Paul for two consecutive sixes off the second and third deliveries. Vince too hit him for another six off the fifth ball. Thus 22 runs came off the seventh over. Shiraz, who bowled the eighth over was hit for two boundaries by King to take 13 runs off that over. Gleeson tied the batsmen in the ninth over by not yielding any big hits and giving away just eight runs.

Skipper Dwayne Bravo introduced himself for the last over. King hit Bravo’s first ball through extra cover for a boundary. He then hit the next for a six again over extra cover to reach his half century. He also cracked Bravo through the extra cover for another boundary. King then went on to whip Bravo for a six off the fifth ball and got 25 runs off the last over. This gave Team Abu Dhabi a creditable 120 for 2 in 10 overs. King walked back to the dug-out, clapped all the way for his knock of 64 off 27 balls with five boundaries and four sixes. Vince remained unbeaten on 26.

Chasing a run-rate of 12, Delhi Bulls opener Tom Banton smashed the second ball of the first over for a four from Naveen Ul Haq through the covers. He also hit the fourth ball through the same region for another boundary. Peter Hatzoglou, who bowled the second over, was hit by opener Rossouw for a boundary and a six off the first two deliveries.

Banton too hit Hatzoglou for a six and a boundary off the fifth and sixth deliveries. Twenty-one runs came off that over. Tye who bowled the third over was also hit for a six by Rossouw to fine leg. With the fourth ball, Tye got Rossouw out caught by Abid Ali at extra cover for 18.

Jordan Cox, who joined Banton, hit Adil Rashid for a six, but Rashid gave away only nine runs in the over. The fifth over from Amad Butt ended Banton’s knock. He got him trapped leg before for 19. Tim David took charge and hit Butt for a boundary and in the next over hit Rashid for a huge six. Coxt too hit Hatzoglou for six. But Hatzoglou struck in the seventh over removing David, trapped leg before for 20.

Forty-four runs were needed off the last 18 balls and the pressure began to mount on Delhi Bull batsmen. Tye got Cox out for 18 caught by Amad Butt at extra cover. Imad Wasim then hit Tye for a boundary and a six to make it 29 runs from 12 balls. Keemo Paul lit up hopes of victory with two successive sixes off Amad Butt. He also hit the third for a boundary to fine leg. Unfortunately, Paul fell to the last ball caught by King at extra cover for 16.

The last over drama

With 13 runs needed off the last over, Imad Wasim took a single off Naveed Ul Haq’s first delivery. Dwayne Bravo too took a single off the second delivery. The third delivery was hit for a boundary over the covers by Imad to make it seven from three balls. The fourth resulted in two byes including an overthrow. Imad then took two runs off the fifth ball to long-off. With three runs needed off the last ball for a win, it was anybody’s game. A straight drive from Imad fetched him just two runs and the match ended in a tie.

Brief scores:

Team Abu Dhabi-Delhi Bulls match tied. Team Abu Dhabi 120 for 2 in 10 overs (James Vince 26n.o, Brandon King 64n.o) Delhi Bulls 120 for 5 in 10 overs (Tim David 20, Imad Wasim 21n.o, Amad Butt 2 for 26)

Chennai Braves brave the challenge from Bangla Tigers through Carlos Brathwaite’s allround show for a 33 runs victory

Chennai Braves braved the challenge from Bangla Tigers through Carlos Brathwaite’s fine allround show to register a 33-runs victory in the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Friday. In the third match of the day, Chennai Braves posted 126 for 6 in 10 overs with Carlos Brathwaite scoring an unbeaten 44. Bangla Tigers were restricted to 93 with Brathwaite bagging four wickets for three runs.

Chennai Braves won the toss and elected to bat. They lost their first wicket to the fourth ball of the first over when non striker Adam Rossington got run out for 3 while trying to get back into the crease. One-drop Michael Pepper began with a boundary to backward point off the last ball of the first over from Rohan Mustafa. Dawid Malan too began to score freely from the second over. He hit Mrittunjoy Chowdhury for two boundaries and a six in the second over. Pepper too hit freely in the third over scoring two consecutive boundaries off Shakib Al Hasan. To the sixth ball Pepper fell for 13 with Iftikhar Ahmed taking a brilliant catch on the long-off fence without losing his balance.

Benny Howell bowled a miserly fourth over giving away just seven runs. Matheesha Pathirana struck a vital blow with first ball of the fifth over by having Dawid Malan caught by Howell at deep extra cover for 27. Runs became hard to come for Chennai Braves when Raza bowled the sixth over. Except for a boundary hit from Brathwaite, all the rest of the deliveries were spot on.

Rohan Mustafa ended Raza’s knock clean bowling him for 10. Brathwaite lit up hopes of the total going past the 100-run mark with a boundary and two sixes off Howell. Though Howell got Ross Whiteley caught and bowled for 2 with the last ball of his over, 18 runs were scored off it. The ninth over from Mrittunjoy Chowdhury too yielded 17 runs with James Fuller hitting a six and a boundary.

The exciting last over saw Brathwaite hit a six off the first ball from Ben Cutting and then score a boundary off the third. Fuller got run out for 12 but Vriitya Aravind hit the first ball he faced for a six and ensure a total of 126 for 6 in 10 overs. Brathwaite remained unbeaten on 44.

Bangla Tigers began their chase losing the prize wicket of Hazratullah Zazai to the third ball of the first over from Sikandra Raza. Pepper at deep mid-wicket took a well-judged catch inside the ropes. Though he lost his balance, Pepper threw the ball up and returned back to the field to complete the catch.

Evin Lewis picked a boundary off Raza’s last delivery while Iftikhar too got another off Olly Stone’s first delivery. Stone struck a vital blow clean bowling Lewis for 4 with the third ball. Iftikhar hit the fifth ball for a six and a boundary off the last ball. The third over was uneventful except for a boundary from Colin Munro off Patrick Dooley and two sixes. Munro and Iftikhat hit one six each off Fuller’s fourth over. Despite that, the required run rate was over 14 runs.

In the fifth over, Brathwaite had Munro caught by Sabir Rao at fine leg for 15. Brathwaite also had Ben Cutting with the next delivery caught by Raza at extra cover to be on a hat-trick chance. Benny Howell prevented that from happening and at the half way mark Bangla Tigers was tottering at 45 for 4.

Iftikhar continued to play his big shots and hit Dooley for two consecutive sixes, first to mid-wicket and the next one over extra covers. With the last ball of that over Dooley got Howell caught and bowled for 4.

With 51 runs needed of the last 18 balls, Raza was hit for a six by Shakib off the fourth ball. The last ball of that over saw Iftikhar run out while backing up at non striker for 49. His knock off 20 balls had two boundaries and five sixes. Raza gave just eights run in that over.

MEDIA ADVISORY: CODE OF CONDUCT – AZAM KHAN

MATCH 5: THE CHENNAI BRAVES VS. NEW YORK STRIKERS

Friday, 25 November, 2022: New York Strikers’ Azam Khan has been fined 25 percent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ADT10 Code of Conduct during Match 5 of the Abu Dhabi T10 against The Chennai Braves.

Khan admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee David Jukes, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Nigel Llong, Alex Wharf, and third umpire Ranmore Martinez levelled the charges.

T10 League Plans Expansion To Five Locations After Thumbs Up From 2 ICC Full Members

The organisers of the six-year old Abu Dhabi T10 League are planning to expand their reach to five different locations around the world. Rajeev Khanna , an IPL veteran who has worked extensively with Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, is overseeing the league's expansion plans having joined T Ten Sports Management as the Chief Operating Officer earlier this year.

In partnership with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the first edition of the T10 League in the island nation has already been announced and will be held in June. The organisers are confident of staging one in Zimbabwe in March and two more in Europe and North America in the near future.

"The biggest thumbs up we have got is the first ever sanction from ICC full member SLC. They have approved the league and will be part of the league. We are also in talks with Zimbabwe and closing on that (deal)," Khanna told PTI on Saturday.

"When full members of ICC are endorsing this league, it shows it has meat in it. In times to come, I am sure other boards including the BCCI will consider it too.

"We are planning one in Europe as well, either Scotland or the Netherlands and the fifth one in North America," he said.

The competition has been approved by the International Cricket Council though the world body has not recognised T10 as a format yet. The ICC, however, has sent its anti-corruption unit to Abu Dhabi for the event.

There is definite interest in the league from the world's leading players. Biggies like Kieron Pollard, Moeen Ali, David Miller, Nicholas Pooran, Tim David, Shakib Al Hasan are all part of the Abu Dhabi T10 League being played here.

"1600 international players had registered for the draft but we could choose only 250. It shows there is a lot of interest and that makes us feel more confident about the league's future," said Khanna referring to the interest for the Abu Dhabi leg .

"We are not here to compete with the T20 format. T10 can work as a talent feeder series to T20. The players love the format as it is quick and it is only two weeks (the T20 leagues are much longer)." Despite the growing interest, Khanna said the league has its set of challenges.

"The biggest challenge is to market this product and make it sustainable.

Operation challenges are also there as it is a new format and not everyone knows about it including the players." Finding a window for the planned five legs of T10 will also be a challenge with international calendar and franchise cricket schedule being busier than ever.

The IPL has become a billion dollar product and the BCCI is firm on maintaining its exclusivity in the league market. Considering that, is there a way to stage T10 in India? "I have come on board recently and I would be talking to the BCCI and see if there is opportunity and acceptance for it. Who would not love to have the league in India? We are also in talks with state associations," added Khanna.

Since India's women players are allowed to play in overseas leagues, Khanna hopes that they will be part of the inaugural women's competition in Sri Lanka in June.

<b>Eoin Morgan and Azam Khan steer New York Strikers to a well fought win off the last ball over Deccan Gladiators</b>

Eoin Morgan and Azam Khan steered New York Strikers to a well fought eight-wicket win over Deccan Gladiators off the last ball in the first match of the fourth day in the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Saturday. They put on an unbeaten 68 runs for the third wicket with Morgan scoring a defiant unbeaten 42 off 23 balls with five boundaries and a six. Azam scored an unbeaten 26 off 20 balls with four boundaries. They carried their team from 42 for 2 in 3.3 overs to the target withstanding some tight bowling from the Deccan Gladiators’ bowlers. Deccan Gladiators had posted 109 for 7 through Odean Smith’s 38 and Suresh Raina’s 28 runs.

The well fought contest began with Deccan Gladiators winning the toss and electing to bat. They lost their opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore to the third ball of the first over from Akeal Hosein for a duck caught by Izharulhaq Naveed at short thirdman. Jason Roy hit the last ball of the first over for a boundary through the covers. The second over was more eventful as Matiullah Khan took the prize wicket of the consistent Nicholas Pooran with the second ball. Pooran flicked into the hands of Mohammad Waseem for 7. The fall of wickets continued in the next over when Hosein had Jason Roy caught behind by wicketkeeper Azam Khan for 5.

New York Strikers were on top removing three top batsman in just 2.3 overs. The mantle of taking the team to a good score fell on India’s experienced allrounder Suresh Raina and David Wiese, a consistent performer in franchise leagues. Wiese escaped being caught behind off Matiullah Khan in the fourth over as Azam failed to take the inside edge.

In the fifth over, Wiese hit Thompson for two consecutive sixes. But he hit the third delivery from Thomspon to Muhammad Waseem at mid-wicket. Thompson also got the prize wicket of Andre Russell caught exactly like the earlier dismissal. Mohammad Waseem took his third catch of the innings and this time again at mid-wicket. With half the side back in the dug-out by the half way mark for just 42 runs on board, New York Strikers wanted to go for the kill. But Muhammad Waseem bowled the sixth over giving away 12 runs. Wahab Riaz was introduced for the seventh over to tighten things up but Odean Smith hit him for a six and a boundary. Twenty runs came off that over.

Thompson who bowled the eighth over continued to give nothing away till the fourth ball when Smith pulled him for a six. Raina too flicked him for another six off the last ball. When 17 runs came off that over, prospects of the score going beyond the 100 run mark became clear. Wahab Riaz tried hard to contain the run flow in his second over. Though Smith pulled him for a boundary, with the fifth delivery he had Raina out. Paul Stirling took a fine catch to the leading edge from Raina, sprinting backwards. Raina’s knock of 28 had two boundaries and a six.

The score went past the 100-run mark when Smith hit Izharulhaq Naveed for a six to long-off the first ball of the last over. With the last ball of the innings he had Odean Smith caught by Fletcher at long off for 38. His knock off 19 balls had three boundaries and three sixes. From a disastrous 37 for 5 in 4.4 overs, Deccan Gladiators posted 109 for 7 at the end of the 10th over.

New York Strikers chase began on a sensational note. Opener Andre Fletcher scored a six off the first ball of the innings from Josh Little. He hit the third delivery for a boundary and fifth for another six. But he also got dismissed to the last ball of that over caught by Russell at mid-on for 16. The second over from Tom Helm yielded just three runs but opener Stirling used the third over well hitting Zahoor Khan for two consecutive sixes, both to mid-wicket. Odean Smith who bowled the fourth over too was hit for a six and a boundary off his first two deliveries by Stirling. With the third ball Smith ended Stirling’s knock having him caught by Wiese at deep mid-wicket. Zahoor Khan bowled a brilliant second over giving away only eight runs.

New York Strikers’ hopes now rested on Eoin Morgan and Azam Khan. The sixth over began with Azam Khan htting Andre Russell for two consecutive boundaries off the first two balls and taking 12 runs off that over. Helm was re-introduced to tighten the run flow. Azam hit the second ball for a boundary through the covers. Morgan too picked two boundaries off the fifth and sixth deliveries.

New York Stirkers needed 31 runs from the last three overs. Andre Russell was introduced for the eighth over. Although Morgan picked a boundary off his third delivery, Russell gave away only six runs. Morgan smashed Odean Smith over long off for a six and a boundary to take his team closer to the target. Azam too hit Smith for a boundary to take 19 runs off that over.

In the end, New York Strikers needed six runs off the last over. Josh Little, who bowled the last over, gave singles off the first two deliveries. Morgan took two runs off the third and a single off the fourth. Azam could not get any run off the fifth but won the match off the last ball by hitting Little to midwicket for a single and winning the match by 8 wickets.

Brief scores:
New York Strikers bt Deccan Gladiators by 8 wkts. Deccan Gladiators 109 for 7 in 10 overs (Suresh Raina 28, Odean Smith 38, Akeal Hosein 2 for 9, Jordan Thompson 2 for 34) New York Strikers 110 for 2 in 10 overs (Paul Stirling 25, Eoin Morgan 42n.o, Azam Khan 26n.o)

Alex Hales and Chris Lynn lift Team Abu Dhabi past Northern Warriors through a stubborn opening partnership

A stubborn opening partnership between Alex Hales and Chris Lynn lifted Team Abu Dhabi past Northern Warriors in the second match of the fourth day in the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Saturday. After Northern Warriors were restricted to 95 for 7, Alex Hales through a knock of 44 and Chris Lynn scoring 31 runs, put on a 69 runs partnership and recorded an eight wicket win with two balls to spare.

Northern Warriors had won the toss and elected to bat with openers Adam Lyth and Kennar Lewis on the prowl for quick runs. Lyth hit opening bowler Naveen Ul Haq for three boundaries but Peter Hatzoglou was miserly as usual. He gave away just one run in the second over. Andre Tye earned the first success of the innings by removing Kennar Lewis for 2 having him caught by Vince at covers.

Adil Rashid too prevented the batsmen from going for big hits and gave away only eight runs. Usman picked two boundaries off Amad Butt, but at the end of the half way mark, Northern Warriors could post only 35 for 1. The sixth over was a disastrous one for Northern Warriors as Adam Lyth got out to Hatzoglou for 22 caught by King at deep mid-wicket while playing a slog sweep. To make it worse, Usman Khan got run out to the next ball for 13.

Rovman Powell took up the challenge and hit Amad Butt’s first delivery of the seventh over for a six over third man followed by another six over deep square leg. Cheered by the Saturday crowd, Sherfane Rutherford too hit a six to the same region and take 21 runs off that over. When Tye bowled the eighth over, Powell hit his second delivery for a six to long-off. He also hit the fourth delivery for a boundary and fifth for another six. Tye ended Powell’s knock with the last ball of the over having him caught by Naveen for 29. His knock off 10 balls had one boundary and four sixes. Rutherford picked another six off Rashid to mid-wicket but fell two balls later caught by Alex Hales at long-off.

The chances of Northern Warriors going past the 100 run mark faded when Naveen, who bowled the last over, got Isuru Udana out for 2 and also had Abhimanyu Mithun caught by Vince at deep mid-wicket for 5. Northern Warriors could thus muster only 95 for 7 in 10 overs.

Abu Dhabi, needing to score at a run rate of less than 10 an over, began with Alex Hales flicking the first ball from Mohammad Irfan to fine leg boundary but only seven runs came off that over. Chris Lyn made up for that hitting Gus Atkinson for a boundary and six to take 12 runs off the over. The battle between batsmen and bowlers to dominate each other continued with Abhimanyu Mithun letting Lynn score only a boundary in the third over and the rest as singles and a double.

The fact that Team Abu Dhabi hadn’t lost a wicket gave them the confidence and Hales hit Isuru Udana for two boundaries in the fourth over. Hales then hit the first ball of the fifth over from Irfan for a boundary to deep point. He also hit the third delivery over mid-off. The partnership went past the 50-run mark through a six by Hales over long-on.

With only 41 runs were needed in the next 30 balls, Team Abu Dhabi began to the take control of the match. This 69 partnership ended in the seventh over when Rayad Emrit had Hales caught by Gus Atkinson for 44. His knock off 25 balls had six boundaries and two sixes. James Vince who joined Lynn accelerated the race to the target hitting Atkinson for three boundaries in the eight over.

Emrit bowled a good ninth over to delay Team Abu Dhabi’s victory giving away just seven runs. When one run was needed off the last three balls, Mithun ended Lynn’s fine knock of 31 by clean bowling him. Brandon King walked in and hit the victory run off the fourth ball of the last over, wide of the mid-on fielder, for a boundary.

Brief scores:
Team Abu Dhabi bt Northern Warriors by 8 wkts. Northern Warriors 95 for 7 in 10 overs (Adam Lyth 22, Rovman Powell 29, Naveen Ul Haq 2 for 19, Andrew Tye 2 for 19) Team Abu Dhabi 96 for 2 in 9.4 overs (Alex Hales 44, Chris Lynn 31)

Sheldon Cottrell’s deadly three wicket spell and Johnson Charles’ belligerent unbeaten 58 helps Samp Army extend their winning march

A brilliant three wicket spell from Sheldon Cottrell and a belligerent unbeaten half century from Johnson Charles gave Samp Army their second consecutive victory in the third match of the fourth day in the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Cottrell gave his customary salute after taking a wicket to three Delhi Bulls batsmen in the first over of the match. Bulls never recovered from the blow and got restricted to 94 for 5. Samp Army was then given a quick win by Johnson Charles who hit an unbeaten 58 off 22 ball with ten boundaries and two sixes.

It was a dramatic start to the third match with Samp Army’s opening bowler Cottrell striking with the first ball of the match by having Rahkeem Cornwall caught behind by wicketkeeper Johnson Charles. With the fourth ball, Cottrell struck again to have Rilee Rossouw caught by Ahmed Raza at short third man for a duck. With the fifth delivery he also clean bowled Asif Khan for a duck. Tim David prevented Cottrell from getting a hat-trick.

George Garton, who bowled the second over was hit for two boundaries by David. Cottrell who also bowled the third over was hit for a boundary by David, yet only eight runs came off that over. Dwaine Pretorius put an end to David’s knock by having him caught behind by wicketkeeper Charles for 16. Anrich Nortje, who bowled the fifth over, could not be forced for runs and at the half way mark elhi Bulls were struggling at 35 for 4.

Karim Janat, bowling the sixth over, made runs tougher giving only eight runs while Nortje made it tighter yielding just five runs. The first six of the innings came in the eighth over when Tom Banton hit Pretorius for a six to over mid-wicket. The ninth over saw Keemo Paul hit Garton too for a six to deep mid-wicket and also a boundary off the next ball. The fourth ball too was hit for a six to deep square leg and also the last delivery for another six to same region to take 24 runs off the over. This gave some respectability to the total too.

Karim Janat bowled the last over and gave away only 10 runs even though Banton hit him for a six over deep cover. Banton got run out to the last ball of the innings for 36 off 27balls with two boundaries and two sixes. Keemo Paul remained unconquered on 36 off 18 balls with three sixes and one boundary. In the end Delhi Bulls posted 94 for 5 in 10 overs.

Chasing the score, Johnson Charles gave Samp Army a glorious start. He hit Waqas Maqsood for three consecutive boundaries off the first three deliveries and off the fourth delivery he hit a six to long on. The over ended with Maqsood dismissing skipper Moeen Ali caught at backward square leg by Rossouw for a duck. Twenty-runs had come off that over.

Shiraz Ahmed who bowled the second over was smashed by Charles for three consecutive boundaries and a six to take 18 runs off that over. Out of total of 38 in two over, 37 of those were scored by Charles. Gleeson bowled four dot balls to George Garton and only a boundary could be scored off the fifth. Dominic Drakes too gave away only eight runs from the fourth over still Samp Army went past the 50-run mark.

The fifth over began with Charles hitting the first ball of the over from Glesson over the point for four runs. Gleeson ended Garton’s knock of 12 by getting him clean bowled wth the fourth ball. At the half way stage, Samp Army needed 35 runs off the remaining 30 balls.

Skipper Dwayne Bravo introduced himself for the sixth over. David Miller who joined Charles hit the fourth ball from Bravo to fine leg. Charles ended that over picking a boundary through extra cover. He reached his half century off 19 balls with a boundary off Maqsood to short fine leg. He also guided the third ball from Maqsood to the third man fence. This short confirmed a comfortable win.

David Miller hit a boundary off Shiraz Ahmed and remained unbeaten on 20 while Charles hit the winning run off Shiraz’s fourth delivery of the eighth over.

Skipper Rovman Powell’s power-hitting carries Northern Warriors past Bangla Tigers

Northern Warriors’ skipper Rovman Powell’s power-packed unbeaten 76 ensured a six-wicket win over Bangla Tigers in the first match of the fifth day in the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Powell’s captain’s knock came off 28 balls with nine sixes and one boundary. He was well backed by Sherfane Rutherford, who hit 22 runs, and Northern Warriors won the match with four balls to spare. Bangla Tigers were restricted to 117 for 4 in 10 overs.

Bangla Tigers had won the toss and elected to bat. Hazratullah Zazai began in his usual style driving the second ball from Mohammad Irfan powerfully through the covers for a boundary. Off the second over from Junaid Siddique, Zazai hit the third ball for a boundary and fourth for a six over long-off. Sixteen runs were scored off that over. Joe Clarke too started hitting freely and scored a boundary off Isuru Udana’s first delivery of the third over and also hit a six off the fourth delivery to square leg. Fifteen runs came off that over.

Zazai and Clarke kept hitting big shots with Rayad Emrit being hit to the long on fence for a boundary by Zazai and Clarke hitting a six over mid-wicket. The pair kept scoring at a run rate of 13 per over. Wayne Parnell was called to bowl the fifth over hoping to get a breakthrough and check the run flow. Zazai hit him too to mid-wicket for a six.

At the half way stage, Bangla Tigers were well placed at 62 for no loss with both the openers scoring freely. Irfan provided the breakthrough in the sixth over when Clarke mistimed his shot and got caught behind by wicketkeeper Kennar Lewis for 25. His knock off 15 balls had two sixes but no boundaries.

Iftikhar Ahmed joined Zazai but Zazai fell in the seventh over, brilliantly yorked by Udana for 37. His knock off 21 balls had four boundaries and two sixes. The fall of two quick wickets, that too of two settled batsmen, upset the run flow. Udana made it tougher by having Lyth catch an upper cut played by Iftikhar for 3. It was a brilliant over that yielded only six runs and two wickets.

Evin Lewis hit Junaid Siddiqui for a six in the eighth over to take 13 runs off that over. With only three more overs remaining, the score read 87 for 3. The ninth over began with Ben Cutting getting caught by Sherfane Rutherford at long on off Parnell for two with the first ball. Parnell gave away just seven runs and Bangla Tigers’ plans for a big total began to fade.

Emrit was called on to bowl the final over of the innings and Lewis sliced the first delivery to the boundary and the second to the mid-wicket fence for another boundary. Lewis also hit the third and fourth deliveries for sixes, the first over long off and the second over extra cover. Twenty-three runs were scored off the last over and Bangla Tigers posted a challenging 117 for 4 in 10 overs.

Bangla Tigers skipper Shakib Al Hasan who introduced himself for the first over struck with the third ball by having Adam Lyth caught behind by wicketkeeper Joe Clarke for 1. Northern Warriors’ skipper Rovman Powell joined opener Kennar Lewis and hit Mohammad Amir for a six over extra cover. Eleven runs came off that over. Benny Howell who bowled the third over gave only a boundary to Lewis.

Shakib introduced himself again for the fourth over and had Lewis out caught at long on by Ben Cutting for 8 with the second delivery. Sherfane Rutherford began by hitting from the first ball he faced for a boundary to extra cover. The last ball of Shakib was also reverse swept by Rutherford for a six. From the fifth over bowled by Rohan Mustafa, Powell hit two consecutive sixes. With the first ball being a five runs wide, 21 runs came off that over and Northern Warriors were well placed at 60 for 2 needing another 58 off the remaining 30 balls with eight wickets in hand.

Iftikhar Ahmed was introduced for the sixth over and his fourth delivery was hit by Powell over the bowler’s head for a six. With 46 runs needed off the last 24 balls, Rutherford hit Howell’s second delivery of the seventh over for a six. He fell to the next ball caught by Umair Ali at covers for 22 runs. Howell gave away only nine runs.

Powell refused to give up and hit Mohammad Amir who bowled the eighth over for two sixes off the first and third deliveries to move on to his half century. Eighteen runs was scored off Amir’s over. With 19 runs needed off the last 12 deliveries, Powell hit Rohan Mustafa’s first and second deliveries for sixes over long on. Mustafa clean bowled Adam Hose for 1 off the fifth delivery.

With five runs needed off the last over, Usman Khan took a single off Iftikhar and gave the strike to Powell. Off the third ball, Powell scored a boundary to short fine leg and carried his team to the target with four balls to spare.

Brief scores:
Northern Warriors bt Bangla Tigers by 6 wkts. Bangla Tigers 117 for 4 in 10 overs (Hazratullah Zazai 37, Joe Clarke 24, Evin Lewis 38, Isuru Udana 2 for 21) Northern Warriors 118 for 4 in 9.2 overs (Rovman Powell 76n.o, Sherfane Rutherford 22, Shakib Al Hasan 2 for 20)

Karim Janat and David Miller extend Morrisville Samp Army’s winning run

Karim Janat and David Miller extended Morrisville Samp Army’s winning run through an eight wicket win over The Chennai Braves in the second match of the fifth day in the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Samp Army, making their debut in this tournament, recorded their third successive victory through Janat and Miller’s unbeaten 76 runs partnership for the third wicket. Janat remained unbeaten on 58 off 28 balls with six sixers and one boundary while Miller remained unconquered with a timely 17. Samp Army won the match with four balls to spare. Chennai Braves were restricted to 105 for 4 in 10 overs.

Samp Army had won the toss and elected to field. Chennai Braves openers Adam Rossington and Dawid Malan gave a good start with Malan getting a boundary off Sheldon Cottrell’s to third man and Rossington hitting the last ball of the over for a six to deep square leg. Rossington also punished George Garton for a six to fine leg in the next over.

Anrich Nortje bowled a brilliant third over giving away just five runs but Malan made up for that in the next over from Karim Janat. He hit two consecutive sixes off the first two deliveries, one six to deep mid-wicket and another to deep square leg. In the fifth over with the fifth ball, UAE’s Ahmed Raza had Rossington caught behind by wicketkeeper Johnson Charles for 19. In the sixth over, Malan too followed clean bowled by Dwaine Pretorius’ second delivery for 32. His knock off 20 balls had two sixes and one boundary.

Ross Whiteley hit Pretorius’ fifth delivery for a six over mid-wicket. Raza bowling his second over gave only a boundary to Whiteley. Prospects of a big score for the Braves began to fade when Pretorius bowled a tight eighth over giving away only eight runs.

Braves needed another 19 runs to reach the 100 run mark with only two overs left. Cottrell was re-introduced for the ninth over. Dan Lawrence rose to the challenge and hit Cottrell for a six to over deep square leg and also picked a boundary past backward point. Seventeen runs came off that over.

Nortje, who bowled the last over had Lawrence on 21 caught by George Garton at mid-wicket, running back for a well-judged catch. Carlos Brathwaite, pulled Nortje straight to David Miller off the last ball for 1. In the end, Braves posted 105 for 4 in 10 overs.

Samp Army needed a steady start. Opener Johnson Charles and skipper Moeen Ali provided just that. Charles in his usual style hit Olly Stone for two consecutive boundaries off the second and third deliveries of the first over. Charles also punished James Fuller for two boundaries in the second over. Sam Cook who bowled the third over, provided the breakthrough by getting Moeen Ali caught by Stone at mid-off for 6 and giving away only seven runs.

Brathwaite who bowled the third over picked the prize wicket of Johnson Charles with his third delivery. Charles hit Brathwaite’s full toss high into the hands of Whiteley for 23. His knock off 13 balls had five boundaries. Brathwaite gave away just seven runs in that over.

Skipper Sikander Raza introduced himself for the fifth over. He bowled the first five deliveries tightly but Karim Janat hit a six off the last ball to long off. Still only eight runs came off that over. The sixth over from Sabir Rao too was well used by Janat to hit two successive sixes. Fifteen runs came off that over.

David Miller slog swept Raza for a six in the seventh over and took 11 runs off that over. With 35 runs needed off the last 18 balls, it was anybody’s game. Stone bowled a tight eighth over giving away no boundary. This resulted in 26 runs needed from the last 12 balls. Sam Cook bowled the ninth over and Janat pulled his third delivery for a six. Miller too picked a boundary off the fifth ball and 15 runs came off that over.

The last over began with Samp Army needing 11 runs off six balls. Janet hit Brathwaite’s first delivery for a six and reached his half century in 27 balls. He also hit the second delivery for a six to win the match by eight wickets.

Brief scores:
Morrisville Samp Army bt The Chennai Braves by 8 wkts. Chennai Braves 105 for 4 in 10 overs (Dawid Malan 32, Dan Lawrence 21, Ross Whiteley 21, Anrich Nortje 2 for 11) Morrisville Samp Army 107 for 2 in 9.2 overs (Johnson Charles 23, Karim Janat 58n.o)

Deccan Gladiators win a run riot match over Delhi Bulls by 18 runs

Deccan Gladiators piled up a whopping 140 for 2 through Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Nicholas Pooran whipping Delhi Bulls’ attack. Delhi Bulls fought back valiantly to score 122 for 4 in 10 overs but they lost by 18 runs in the in the third match on the fifth day of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Sunday. A total of 262 runs were scored in a run riot match.

For Deccan Gladiators, Tom Kohler-Cadmore stole the thunder through an unbeaten 82 runs off 33 balls with eight boundaries and six sixes backed by Nicholas Pooran with 34 runs off 17 balls with three boundaries and two sixes. Delhi Bulls fought back through Tim David's 48 off 24 balls with three boundaries and four sixes and Rilee Rossouw’s 28 runs. But in the end they fell short by 18 runs.

Delhi Bulls won the toss and elected to field. They earned an early success when Imad Wasim had the dangerous Jason Roy out with the last ball of the first over for 5. Wasim had Jason stumped by wicketkeeper Tom Banton when Roy came down to play across the line and missed the delivery.

Deccan Gladiators’ skipper Nicholas Pooran and Tom Kohler-Cadret hen took charge. Kohler-Cadmore hit Waqas Maqsood for a six and a boundary. In the third over, Pooran hit a huge six off Imad Wasim’s last delivery. Richard Gleeson too was not spared being hit for two boundaries in the fourth over. The fifth over from Dominic Darkes was fully utilized by both the batsmen. While Pooran hit the first ball of that over for a six, Kohler-Cadmore hit two consecutive boundaries off the third and fourth ball. He also hit the fifth delivery for a six to take 22 runs off that over. Keemo Paul who bowled the sixth over was also punished with Kohler-Cadmore hitting the third ball for a six to square leg, fourth for a boundary to deep point, and the fifth for another six over extra cover. Eighteen runs were picked off that over.

Shiraz Ahmed was introduced for the seventh over, hoping for a breakthrough. Kohler-Cadmore did not spare him too and smashed him for a six over long on while Pooran picked a boundary to fine leg. They took the team to the 100 run mark in seven overs. The massacre of the bowling attack continued in the eighth over when Richard Gleeson was pulled for a six by Kohler-Cadmore and Pooran completed the over with two consecutive boundaries. After Maqsood was hit for two consecutive boundaries in the ninth over by Kohler-Cadmore, the quick innings from Pooran ended. He fell to the fourth ball of Maqsood after scoring 34 off 17 balls with two sixes and three boundaries caught by Keemo Paul at deep square leg.

Andre Russell too joined the six hitters by lifting Shiraz Ahmed for a huge six over extra cover. Deccan Gladiators thus posted a mammoth 140 for 2 in 10 overs. Kohler-Cadmore remained unconquered on 82.

Unfortunately, Delhi Bulls began on a wrong note. They lost opener Rahkeem Cornwall to Josh Little’s fifth delivery of the first over, clean bowled for 2. Tom Banton picked two boundaries off the first two delivers of the second over from Andre Russell to take 12 runs off that over. David Wiese, well known for his ability to bowl tight overs, had Banton out with a tricky slower delivery. Banton was committed to hit straight to Kohler Cadmore for 12. Wiese gave away just eight runs.

UAE pacer Zahoor Khan bowled a tight fourth over giving away no boundaries. Though Rilee Rossouw hit Tom Helm for a six to long-on, only 11 runs came off the fifth over. So at the half way mark, Delhi Bulls had scored only 47 for 2 with the required run rate shooting up to 18.80. Tim David turned aggressive in the sixth over and hit Sultan Ahmed for a six off the first ball to midwicket. Rossouw too hit Sultan for a six to long on. David hit the fifth delivery for another six and he ended the over with another four. Twenty-nine runs came off that over. This carried the score to 76 for 2 and the required run rate dipped to 16.25.

Zahoor once again bowled a fine seventh over giving away just eight runs. With 56 runs needed off the last over, Delhi Bulls found their hopes fading away. David continued to hit Helm for a boundary and a six in the eighth over and took 20 runs off that over

This resulted in Delhi Bulls needing a gettable 37 runs from 12 balls. Russell who bowled the ninth over got the dangerous David out, brilliantly caught by Suresh Raina at extra cover running to his left. David’s 48 came off 24 balls with three boundaries and four sixes. Keemo Paul walked in and hit the first ball he faced for a boundary to mid-wicket. The fifth ball too was sliced by Paul to third man.

With 23 runs needed from six balls, Little got Rossouw out for 28, caught by Roy at mid-off. Rossouw’s knock off 15 balls had one boundary and two sixes. This ended Delhi Bulls’ challenge too.

Brief scores:
Deccan Gladiators bt Delhi Bulls by 18 runs. Deccan Gladiators 140 for 2 in 10 overs (Tom Kohler-Cadmore 82, Nicholas Pooran 34) Delhi Bulls 122 for 4 in 10 overs (Rilee Rossouw 28, Tim David 48, Josh Little 2 for 11)

I Feel Fit and Ready for an Action Packed Few Months, Says Team Abu Dhabi’s Alex Hales

Alex Hales was part of the England squad that won the 2022 T20 World Cup

Abu Dhabi, 28th November, 2022: England batter Alex Hales has made a habit of playing the important knocks, whether for the national team or the Team Abu Dhabi at the sixth season of Abu Dhabi T10.

The latest instalment saw him tonk the Northern Warriors bowling for 44 runs off 25 balls, to pick up the Player of the Match, and the win.

Reflecting on his performance, a modest Hales said, “Our bowlers did really well and that made the work of the batting unit easy.”

Further adding that the format is about having intent from the get-go, and noting that the Abu Dhabi side feels like a strong one. Hales also admitted that he quite enjoyed the fast-paced shorter formats of the game.

“I think it's a format that comes naturally to me. I've always enjoyed having an aggressive intent from ball one. I played a bit of T10 in the past. This is my third season. And it's something I wouldn't enjoy playing and look. Forward to playing in the future.”

Hales, who has only just returned to the England set-up in recent months, said that he didn’t think a comeback was possible, but was only too happy. England, with Hales in the squad, recently won the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

“It was great to be back and I didn't think I'd get to put the England shirt on again. It was a huge honor and to go all the way and win the World Cup was difficult to put into words. It was incredibly special and I haven't really thought about next year. To be honest, I'm probably going focus on the T10 cricket going forward.”

And Hales is definitely looking forward to some more high-octane white-ball cricket in the coming months, especially in the shorter formats.

“I think just playing just playing T20 definitely helps the body, it's obviously way less time that you’re in the field. So, it's a lot easier on your body and you can play those long stints, months and months on end. It's been super busy in the last few months, I think initially when I planned my next 12 months, I didn't think I was going to be playing in the World Cup, so I was supposed to have two months off before this, so it's definitely going to be demanding. I feel physically fit and really enjoying my cricket at the moment. So, I feel like I'm in the peak of my career, so it's going be really enjoyable few months,” Hales signed off.

New York Strikers snap Samp Army’s winning run in the battle of debutants

New York Strikers snapped Morrisville Samp Army's three match winning spree by pulling off a 12 runs win in the 15th match on the sixth day of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Monday. The battle of the two debutants to this tournament was intense with New York Strikers posting 110 for 8 through Azam Khan’s 47 and Paul Stirling’ 34. Samp Army were restricted to 98 for 5 despite skipper Moeen Ali’s fighting knock of 42.

Morrisville Samp Army had won the toss and elected to field. New York Strikers’ opener Paul Stirling got the first boundary of the day through an outside edge off Sheldon Cottrell’s fifth ball to the third man region. The last ball of that over too got him a boundary when he placed it past the point fielder.

Stirling was severe on UAE’s Ahmed Raza who bowled the second over. He hit him for two consecutive boundaries off the second and third ball. He also hit the fourth and sixth ball for sixes to take 21 runs off that over. Opener Andre Fletcher did not get going and fell to the last ball of the third over from Anrich Nortje for 8 when his edge flew to Dwaine Pretorius at third man boundary.

Pretorius who then came on to bowl the fourth over had Stirling caught behind by wicketkeeper Johnson Charles of the fourth ball for 34. His 13 ball knock had five boundaries and two sixes.

Then Eoin Morgan and Azam Khan began to score freely. Morgan hit Chamika Karunaratne for a boundary through the covers and a six off the third ball to deep square leg. Azam khan too scored a boundary to long-on and take 15 runs off that over. With the score reading 64 for 2 at the half way make, Karim Janat bowled a brilliant sixth over. He had Eoin Morgan caught by David Miller at long on and with the very next ball had skipper Kieron Pollard caught behind by Charles. Janat gave away just two runs and took two wickets.

Azam Khan rose to the challenge and hit Cottrell for two consecutive sixes of the first and second deliveries of the seventh over. The first six was hit to long-on and second one to backward square leg. Azam also hit the fifth ball for a boundary to fine leg to take 16 runs off that over.

Pretorius, as usual, bowled tight and had Muhammad Waseem caught by Karunatatne for 1 with the third ball and clean bowled Jordan Thompson with the next delivery. Only four runs came off that over besides the two wickets. New York Strikers slipped to 86 for 6 with only two more overs to go.

Azam Khan continued to hit hard and scored a six off Nortje’s first delivery of the ninth over to mid-wicket. He also hit him for a boundary off the next. The third delivery was also hit for a six and the score went past the 100-run mark. Azam Khan fell to the fifth delivery when Nortje trapped him leg before for 47. His knock off 21 balls had three boundaries and five sixes.

The last over was bowled by Janat. He picked his third wicket by having Wahab Riaz out with the second ball caught by Shimron Hetmyer at long-on. Janat gave away just seven runs off that over and New York Strikers were restricted to 110 for 8 in 10 overs.

Samp Army began their chase through opener and captain Moeen Ali hitting the first ball of the innings from Akeal Hosein for a boundary to long-on. Hosein gave away only six runs off that over. Off the second over, 12 runs were scored with Moeen Ali hitting Matiullah for two boundaries.

Johnson Charles, who was batting slowly, hit Wahab Riaz past point for a boundary in the third over. Slowly but steadily the openers increased the run flow. Wahab Riaz injured his calf muscle and Muhammad Waseem was called to complete the over. Charles hit Waseem’s sixth ball, which was a no ball, for a six and got seven runs off that delivery. Nineteen runs came off that over.

Skipper Kieron Pollard introduced himself for the fourth over and provided the breakthrough. With the fourth ball he had Charles caught by Muhammad Waseem at deep mid-wicket for 20. He gave away just three runs in that over. At the half way mark, Samp Army was 46 for 2, needing 65 runs in the remaining 30 balls.

Jordan Thompson was introduced to bowl the sixth over with Shimron Hetmyer joining Moeen Ali. He bowled a tight over giving away just a boundary off the last delivery to Hetmyer. Stirling’s first delivery of the seventh over was hit straight by Moeen for a boundary but off the next five balls he gave away just singles. Ravi Rampaul, who bowled the ninth over, was hit by Hetmyer for a straight six off the third ball. Moeen Ali too hit Rampaul for a six off the fifth ball. With 31 runs needed off the last 12 balls, Thompson began giving only a single but Hetmyer hit him for a six off the second ball. With the third ball, Thompson got Hetmyer out for 24 brilliantly caught by Pollard. Thompson gave away only a single off his last two deliveries.

With 22 runs needed off the last six balls, Moeen Ali smashed the first ball from Rampaul through the covers for a boundary. He only got a double off the next ball. With the third ball, Rampaul clean bowled Moeen Ali for 42. His knock came off 25 balls and five boundaries and a six. With sixteen needed off the last three deliveries, Pretorius could get only two runs off the fourth ball and off the fifth Rampaul clean bowled Pretorius to ensure the victory.

Usman Khan and Adam Lyth lift Northern Warriors to a 34 runs win over Chennai Braves

Usman Khan and Adam Lyth’s stupendous batting display lifted Northern Warriors to a 34 runs win over The Chennai Braves in the 16th match on the sixth day of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Monday. Usman Khan cracked 65 off 24 balls with six boundaries and five sixes while Adam Lyth remained unbeaten on 54 off 25 balls with four boundaries and four sixes to help Nothern Warriors post a whopping 141 for 3 in 10 overs.

Chasing the target, The Chennai Braves could muster only 107 for 5 in 10 overs

Northern Warriors won the toss and elected to bat. Usman Khan opened with Adam Lyth and was in belligerent mood from the start. He began by hitting Patrick Dooley’s fourth and fifth deliveries from the first over for sixes to long off and mid-wicket.

Usman continued his big hits in the second over from Sam Cook . After hitting Cook for a boundary to mid-wicket off the second ball, he lofted the fifth delivery over the covers for a six. Lyth, who was watching Usman’s sixes, also hit Sikandar Raza for a six to long off. Usman hit his fourth six by to deep mid-wicket in that over. The fourth over from Olly Stone had no boundaries from both the batsmen but they made up in the fifth over. Usman hit James Fuller for a boundary and a six to race to his half century in 17 balls. He celebrated it with a six to mid-wicket. At the half way mark, Northern Warriors were at a strong score of 79 for no loss.

The big hit continued in the sixth over too when Carlos Brathwaite was introduced into the attack. While Usman picked a boundary. Lyth hit a six to deep square leg. Usman’s stupendous knock ended in the seventh over when Stone with the second delivery had him caught by Adhithya Shetty for 65. His knock off 24 balls had six boundaries and five sixes. Skipper Rovman Powell lasted only two balls to score two runs before hitting high to Ross Whiteley at long-off.

With the first ball of the eighth over, Sherfane Rutherford got out caught by Patrick Dooley for 1. Adam Hose too joined the six hitting spree by lifting Brathwaite to deep mid-wicket for a six. Lyth ended the innings by hitting the fifth and sixth deliveries of the last over for sixes to remain unbeaten on 54 off 25 balls. Northern Warriors posted a huge total of 141 for 3 in 1o overs.

Chennai began their chase through openers Dawid Malan and Adam Rossington. Ten runs were scored off the first over from Mohammad Irfan though they needed to score at a run rate of over 14 per over. Malan picked two boundaries off Abhimanyu Mithun’s second over for 12 runs from that over.

Chasing such a big score needed big hits form every over. Any tight over would mount the pressure and Isuru Udana bowled a good third over taking the wicket of Adam Rossington too. Rovman Powell took a brilliant well-judged catch at the long-off boundary to end Rossington’s stay at the wicket for nine runs. Though Brathwaite hit the last ball from Udana for a six, only nine runs came off it.

Brathwaite hit his second six off Junaid Siddique to deep midwicket. That over yielded 12 runs but the required run rate went up to over 16. Wayne Parnell took the prize wicket of Malan who hit high into the hands of Adam Hose for 15. James Fuller who joined Brathwaite hit Parnell to deep backward point for a six. With the score reading 59 for 2, and 83 needed off the last five overs, Udana returned for his second spell. Brathwaite and Fuller hit him for boundaries and 15 runs came off that over. Mohammad Irfan was introduced in the seventh over.

Brathwaite hit him powerfully to long off for a boundary. With the fifth ball he dismissed the dangerous Brathwaite caught at sweeper cover by Lyth for 27.

With 62 needed off 18 balls, Northern Warriors were on top. Sikandar Raza lofted Mithun to Powell at long on for a duck and Northern Warriors went for the kill choking runs and giving away just five runs. In the ninth over, Parnell got Ross Whiteley out for 3 caught by Rutherford at mid-wicket. Vriitya Aravind hit Parnell’s next delivery for a boundary but eight runs only came off it. Junaid Siddiqui who bowled the last over too did not give anything way and Northern Warriors won by 34 runs.

Through a fine display of accurate bowling backed by some excellent fielding, Team Abu Dhabi destroyed Morrisville Samp Army’s batting and pulled off an 18-runs win in the 17th match on the seventh day of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Though Team Abu Dhabi could post only 100 for 3 in 10 overs, Peter Hatzoglou (3 for 6) and Andrew Tye (3 for 17) backed by Fabian Allen (2 for 24) restricted Samp Army to 82 for 9 in 10 overs.

At one stage, Samp Army were tottering at 28 for 8 in 6.1 overs before UAE’s Basil Hameed hit an unbeaten 47 off 18 balls with five sixes and three boundaries to give some respect to his team’s total.

Team Abu Dhabi had won the toss and elected to bat. Samp Army began with UAE’s Ahmed Raza bowling the first over. He struck with the first ball clean bowling the dangerous Alex Hales. The ball spun past his forward defence to hit the bails. James Vince, who joined his captain and opener Chris Lynn, hit the third ball from Raza for a six to deep mid-wicket.

Vince also hit George Garton who bowled the second over to two consecutive boundaries off the fifth and sixth deliveries. Raza was also hit by Vince to deep mid-wicket for a boundary in the third over. From the fourth over, Lynn began to hit out. He hit Dwaine Pretorius for two sixes, one to deep square leg and another over backward point. Team Abu Dhabi picked 18 runs off that over.

Anrich Nortje was introduced for the fifth over and he gave away only a boundary to Lynn. At the half way mark, Team Abu Dhabi were 57 for 1. Karim Janat was also hit for only one boundary by Vince in the sixth over.

At a time when Team Abu Dhabi should have started scoring briskly, they began to lose wickets. Chamika Karunaratne removed Lynn, who hit straight to David Miller at long-on for 35. Brandon King fell to the very next ball caught and bowled by Karunaratne.

Vince hit Nortje’s first delivery of the eighth over for a six over long-on. He also hit the fifth delivery for a boundary. Karunaratne was introduced for the ninth over. He bowled a brilliant over giving away just six runs.

In the last over bowled by Karim Janat, Fabian Allen took a boundary off the third and final ball to take Abu Dhabi total to exactly 100 for 3. James Vince remained unbeaten on 44 off 25 balls with five boundaries and two sixes.

Team Abu Dhabi’s opening bowler Naveen Ul Haq prevented opener Johnson Charles from getting any runs from the first five deliveries. His last ball of the over was a wide. Charles managed just a single off the repeat delivery. Peter Hatzoglou struck with the second ball off the second over by having Charles caught by Allen at mid-wicket for 3 while playing a slog sweep and top edging the delivery. With the last ball, Hatzoglou got Moeen Ali out for a duck when Allen took a brilliant leaping one-handed catch at cover.

Adil Rashid too bowled a good third over to Karim Janat. Just nine runs came from that over despite a boundary from Karim. Andrew Tye struck with the first ball of the fourth over by having Karim Janat caught and bowled for 9. Shimron Hetmyer walked in and hit the first ball he faced for a boundary past point. Tye removed Hetmyer with the last ball of that over caught by Sharafu at long-off. That over too yielded only six runs.

David Miller was clean bowled by Hatzoglou for 1 with a beauty of the first ball of the fifth over. At the half way mark, Samp Army were tottering at 23 for 5. Needing 78 from the last five overs. Fabian Allen quickened Samp Army’s end taking the wickets of Pretorius for 1, caught by Hales at point and George Garton caught by Tye at long off for 3. With the first ball of the seventh over, Tye had Chamika Karunaratne caught by Lynn for 2.

Basil Hameed walked in and hit Tye’s fifth delivery for a six. In the eighth over, Hameed hit Rashid for a boundary and a six off the first two deliveries. He also hit the fourth ball for a six and fifth for a boundary to take the score past the 50-run mark. Twenty-one runs came off that over.

In the end, Basil Hameed remained unbeaten on 47 to reduce the margin of defeat.

Dan Lawrence and Carlos Brathwaite’s brave hitting takes The Chennai Braves past Deccan Gladiators for their second victory

Dan Lawrence and Carlos Brathwaite led The Chennai Braves brave march past Deccan Gladiator in the 18th match on the seventh day of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Lawrence hit an 18-ball 40 runs with four boundaries and two sixes while Brathwaite smashed a seven-ball 27 runs with four sixes. The onslaught by this pair helped Chennai Braves record a six wicket win with three balls to spare.

Chennai had only one win before this match and had lost three matches while Gladiators had won three matches and lost only one.

Chennai Braves won the toss and opted to field. Deccan Gladiators’s aggressive openers Jason Roy and Tom Kohler-Cadmore began confidently. Kohler-Cadmore hit Sam Cook for a boundary off the third ball to mid-off and a six off the last ball to long off. Roy glided Olly Stone’s third delivery to the third man for a boundary.

In the third over, Roy picked two consecutive boundaries off James Fuller while Kohler-Cadmore completed the over with another boundary to third man. The boundary hitting continued in the fourth over too with Roy picking two boundaries off Stone. The 50 runs partnership came in 4.1 overs when Kohler-Cadmore hit Carlos Brathwaite through the hands of third man fielder. He also got another boundary through a fine cover drive, and at the half way mark Deccan Gladiators were in a commanding 62 for no loss.

When Chennai skipper Sikandar Raza introduced himself, Kohler-Cadmore hit him for a six to long-on. He also hit Brathwaite’s first delivery of the seventh over for a six to deep mid-wicket. Brathwaite ended the 79 runs partnership by getting Kohler-Cadmore caught by Stone at deep mid-wicket for 40. His knock off 19 balls had four boundaries and three sixes. Roy then brilliantly picked the gap at extra cover for another boundary off Brathwaite. When Roy hit James Fuller to mid-off boundary, Deccan Gladiator were five runs short of the 100-run mark at the end of the eighth over.

Sam Cook bowled a tight ninth over giving just seven runs but Roy reached his half century with a boundary off him. Sikandar Raza struck with the first ball of the last over clean bowling Andre Russell for 4. With the last ball he also had Nicholas Pooran caught at long on for 1. Deccan Gladiators thus posted 108 for 3 in 10 overs with Roy unbeaten on 57 off 33 balls with nine boundaries.

The Chennai Braves’s chase began through opener Dawid Malan elegantly pulling Josh Little for a boundary. Opener Dan Lawrence lifted Tom Helm’s first delivery of the second over effortlessly for a six over long on. He also hit the second delivery for another six over long off. He flicked the fourth delivery for a boundary. With 23 for no loss in just two overs, David Wiese was introduced for the third over. Malan hit his first delivery to fine leg for a boundary. Lawrence hit Wiese too to long leg for another boundary. With the last ball of the that over Wiese had Malan caught by Roy who took a running catch at long on for 10.

Sultan Ahmed’s first delivery was greeted by Lawrence with a boundary to long off. Brathwaite joined Lawrence and hit Andre Russell’s second delivery to a mighty six to long-off. The third, fourth and fifth deliveries were hit for sixes and 28 runs taken off the over. Zahoor Khan clean bowled Brathwaite for 27 with the second delivery of the sixth over. His knock off seven balls had four sixes which virtually put Chennai Braves on the driver’s seat to victory.

Sultan Ahmed struck in the seventh over to have Lawrence out caught by Russell at long on fence for 40. His knock off 18 balls had four boundaries and two sixes. Braves needed another 20 runs off the last three overs. Sikandar Raza and James Fuller made it 11 runs from last 12 deliveries. Josh Little gave away eight runs off the ninth over. Helm bowled a wide off the third ball and Sikandar took the victory run off the next delivery over the wicketkeeper’s head while going for a flick shot.

Iftikhar Ahmed’s stupendous unbeaten 83 from 30 balls studded with eight sixes and five boundaries helped Bangla Tigers leap past Delhi Bulls in the 19th match on the seventh day of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Bangla Tigers who were at bottom of the points table recorded their second win and pushed Delhi Bulls to the last slot in the battle of two bottom placed teams.

Delhi Bulls elected to field and began their attack through Imad Wasim. Bangla Tigers’ opener Joe Clarke hit Wasim’s third and fifth deliveries for boundaries. Clarke was more severe on Keemo Paul hitting the first, second and fourth deliveries for boundaries. Paul struck back with the last ball of the over by getting Clarke out for 25.

The third over was bowled by India’s veteran off spinner Harbhajan Singh. He gave away just seven runs preventing the batsmen from scoring any boundaries. Skipper Dwayne Bravo introduced himself and though his second ball was hit for a boundary by Hazratullah Zazai to mid-off, he struck with the third ball to remove Zazai. Jordan Cox, running backwards at mid-off dived and took a brilliant one handed catch to dismiss Zazai.

Ifthikar Ahmed walked in and hit Bravo’s first delivery for a huge six to deep mid-wicket. He also pulled the next for a boundary. Iftikhar lifted Harbhajan’s fourth delivery to extra cover for another six. The next he drove powerfully through the covers for a boundary. Iftikhar also smashed Richard Gleeson for two consecutive sixes in the sixth over off the fourth and fifth deliveries. Iftikhar’s sixes continued in the seventh over too when he lifted Shiraz for a mighty one over long on.

The eighth over saw Iftikhar at his aggressive best. He smashed Gleeson’s second, fourth and sixth deliveries for a six and picked boundaries off the fourth and fifth deliveries. Twenty-six runs came off that over and he made his partner Colin Munro watch him in awe. His went past his half century in 19 balls.

Bravo bowled a brilliant ninth preventing both batsmen from hitting any boundary. Shiraz was called to bowl the last over. He gave away no boundaries off the first three deliveries but off the fourth delivery, Iftikhar swept him to get a boundary. Off the fifth ball, Iftikhar took a double to move to 82 and flicked the last ball for a single to remain unbeaten on 83 and guide Bangla Tigers to 133 for 2 in 10 overs.

Delhi Bulls began their chase through opener Rilee Rossouw hitting Mohammad Amir’s third delivery for a six over long on. From the rest of Amir’ deliveries the batsmen could only get singles. Rohan Mustafa, who bowled the second over, earned the first success with the fourth ball by having Tom Banton caught by a diving Iftikhar Ahmed at long on for 4. Jordan Cox who joined Rossouw right away hit a boundary to fine leg off Mustafa.

Rossouw hit the last ball of the third over from Benny Howell for a six to deep mid-wicket. Cox also cut Umair Ali’s first delivery for a boundary past point. With the last delivery he removed danger man Rossouw caught and bowled for 15.

Shakib Al Hasan, as usual, bowled a miserly over giving away just eight runs. Cox made up for that in the next over from Umair Ali hitting him for two consecutive sixes. Delhi Bulls needed 60 runs off the last 18 balls, needing to score at a run rate of 20 runs per over. Luke Fletcher had the free-hitting Cox caught behind by wicketkeeper Joe Clarke for 34. His knock off 21 balls had two boundaries and two sixes. Fletcher gave away only six runs to help his team tighten the grip on the match.

With 54 runs needed off the last 12 balls, Tim David and Keemo Paul hit Mohammad Amir for one six each. Still 39 runs were needed off the last over. Even though Fletcher was hit for four consecutive sixes by David, they fell short of the target by 12 runs. David remained unbeaten on 50 off 20 balls with six sixes and one boundary. Unfortunately, his knock went in vain.

Brief scores:
Bangla Tigers bt Delhi Bulls by 12 runs. Bangla Tigers 133 for 2 in 10 overs (Joe Clarke 25, Iftikhar Ahmed 83n.o) Delhi Bulls 121 for 3 in 10 overs (Jordan Cox 34, Tim David 50n.o)
Player of the Match: Iftikhar Ahmed

I watched the innings and it was extremely impressive. Most of the batsmen on his own team were struggling to time the ball after the powerplay but not Ifti. Just kept hitting massive sixes after sixes.

I wonder if he can flourish in a #6 role in ODi's where he is coming towards the end of the innings and facing mostly pacers. Could be great in that role with his power.

Chennai Braves’ batting line-up cracked before Team Abu Dhabi's pacer Naveen Ul Haq's deadly bowling to be restricted to a paltry 71 for 6 in 10 overs. Team Abu Dhabi then raced to an emphatic seven wicket victory with eight balls to spare in the 20th match on the eighth day of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Naveen Ul Haq bagged three wickets in his first over and returned with figures of 3 for 7. Chennai Braves failed to recover from the blow as Andrew Tye too chipped in with 2 for 14.

Though Team Abu Dhabi too lost three wickets for one run during the chase, skipper Chris Lynn hit an unbeaten 39 backed by Fabian Allen (33n.o) to ensure their team’s victory in 8.4 overs. This victory helped Team Abu Dhabi move to the top slot in the points table.

Chennai Braves won the toss and elected to bat only to find them get off to a disastrous start. With the first ball of the match, Naveen Ul Haq had Chennai opener Dan Lawrence caught behind by wicketkeeper Kamran Atta. With the second ball, Naveen had skipper Sikandar Raza clean bowled. Carlos Brathwaite stopped Naveen from getting a hat-trick but Naveen struck with the last ball of the first over getting David Malan caught by Alishan Sharafu at short extra cover for a duck.

With three wickets down for just one run, Peter Hatzoglou bowled tightly giving only a boundary to Vriitya Aravind off the last ball. Brathwaite then went on with his six hitting practice hitting Adil Rashid over the square leg fence. The fourth over from Hatzoglou was another brilliant one giving away just two runs. Andrew Tye who was introduced for the fifth over was hit by Brathwaite for his second six to long-on. But with the next delivery, Tye struck having Brathwaite caught at long-on by Naveen for 16. At the half way mark, Chennai were tottering at 28 for 4.

Ross Whiteley joined Aravind and hit Fabian Allen’s first delivery for a boundary and last delivery for a six. Adil Rashid who bowled the seventh over had Whiteley out with the fourth ball, caught by Tye at deep mid-wicket for 14. James Fuller lifted Allen for a straight six and the last ball to wide long-on for another six. That added some respect to the total which read 60 for 5 by the end of the eighth over. In the ninth over, Tye had Fuller caught by Hales at sweeper cover for 16. Tye gave away just four runs in that over.

Naveen was re-introduced for the last over. Aravid hit the first delivery over short third man for a boundary. The rest of the deliveries were cleverly bowled by Naveen cleverly preventing batsmen from playing any big short. Aravind remained unbeaten on 21 and Chennai Braves got restricted to 71 for 6 in 10 overs.

Chasing the moderate total, Team Abu Dhabi opener and star batsman Alex Hales fell to the second ball of the first over for a duck to Patrick Dooley. Lawrence took a brilliant low catch at short over to give a great start. Dooley struck again with the third ball with Sikandar Raza running and taking a low catch at square leg to dismiss James Vince for a duck. Dooley gave one run and thus took two wickets in the first over.

In the second over, Brandon King got out hitting Sam Cook’s first delivery to Brathwaite at mid-off for 1. Fabian Allen joined his skipper Chris Lynn with three wickets down for just one run. Lynn hit the first boundary of the innings to long on off Cook’s fourth delivery. Dooley who bowled the third over gave away just three runs.

Lynn hit Fuller for a six to mid-wicket off the second delivery of the fourth over, but then that is the only big shot that came off it. Allen too hit Raza for a six to square leg fence. Lynn hit the third delivery for another six. Those big hits eased a bit of the pressure on Team Abu Dhabi. With 36 runs needed off the last 30 balls, Lynn hit Olly Stone to fine leg boundary and also to long-on. The pair put on an unbeaten 72 runs partnership to win the match

Brief scores:

In the last over it was Shakib who hit Andre Russell for a boundary and a six and fell to the fifth ball brilliant caught by a diving wicketkeeper Pooran for 17. Deccan Gladiators, needing to score just over 10 runs an over, found Bangla Tigers’s opening bowler Mohammad Amir give away only eight runs. Opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore hit Rohan Mustafa’s fifth and sixth deliveries for sixes over long off. In the third over Kohler-Cadmore also hit Ben Howell’s fourth and fifth deliveries for sixes, this time both to over long-on. The 50 runs partnership with Nicholas Pooran came in 3.3 overs.

Kohler-Cadmore dominated the partnersip with 32 and Pooran with just seven. From the fourth over, Pooran began to open out and hit Luke Fletcher for two consecutive sixes to deep mid-wicket.

Pooran greeted Shakib Al Hasan who bowled the fifth over with three consecutive sixes. The first six to deep square leg, the next to backward square leg and third between extra cover and long-off . Pooran hit the fifth and sixth deliveries also for sixes. Except the fourth delivery all the rest were hit for sixes to take 30 runs off the over. Kohler-Cadmore scored four consecutive boundaries off Rohan Mustafa too. This onslaught by the two openers ensured Deccan Gladiators a quick win.

Eoin Morgan, carrying the experience of being a part of many nail-biting thrillers, displayed his skills that made him one of the finest limited over batsmen to carry New York Strikers through a nerve-cracking run chase and pull off a last ball win. The 36-year-old former England captain, who had once remarked that ‘T10 was one of the best tournaments and enjoys playing in it’, cracked an unbeaten 87 off 35 balls with 12 boundaries and three sixes to chase down Northern Warriors’ huge total of 143 for 3. Through a one-man show, Morgan took the team to the target hitting a boundary off the last ball.

Earlier, Northern Warriors posted 143 for 3 through Usman Khan’s 48 and skipper Rovman Powell’s 54. Their efforts went in vain in the 22nd match on the eighth day of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Northern Warriors won the toss and elected to bat. The first over from Akeal Hosein yielded just a boundary to Adam Lyth. In the second over too, Lyth could get only one boundary off Muhammad Waseem. In the third over, Usman Khan hit the first six of the innings off Hosein to deep mid-wicket. Off the fourth ball Hosein had Lyth caught and bowled for 14. Stuart Binny bowled a tight fourth over giving away just four runs.

Muhammad Waseem was re-introduced for the fifth over and Usman Khan flicked him for a boundary off the first ball and also flicked the second for a six. He continued to flick and get a boundary off the third ball and sliced the fifth ball to third man for another boundary. Twenty runs came off that over and Northern Warriors reached the 50 run mark at the end of the fifth over.

Binny who bowled his first over tight could not repeat it in his second. Usman Khan hit his first delivery and fourth delivery for boundaries. He gave away 13 runs in that over. Skipper Rovman Powell who had faced only six balls to score five runs till the end of sixth over, hit the first ball of the seventh from Jordan Thompson for a boundary over mid-off. He also hit the fifth ball for a six to over deep square leg to move to 20.

With three more overs to go and score at 81 for 1, Usman hit Rampaul to fine leg for a boundary while Powell hit two consecutive sixes off the fifth and sixth deliveries to take the score past the 100 run mark. Thompson got Usman out for 48 with the first ball of his ninth delivery. Sherfane Rutherford hit the first ball he faced from Thompson for a six to long-off and a boundary off the next through extra cover. The last over was bowled by Pollard and Rutherford hit the first delivery over extra cover for a boundary. Powell reached his half century off 18 balls hitting Pollard over the covers for a six. He got out to the next delivery caught behind by wicketkeeper Azam Khan for 54. His knock off 19 balls had two boundaries and six sixes. Northern Warriors thus posted a healthy 143 for 3 in 10 overs.

The strange trend of openers falling to the first ball of the innings happened in this match too. Opener Andre Fletcher got caught behind by wicketkeeper Kennar Lewis off Mohammad Irfan. Paul Stirling, undanted by the fall of his opening partner, hit Irfan for a six to deep mid-wicket. Eoin Morgan joined Stirling began with a boundary to deep mid-wicket. In the second over, Morgan hit Abhimanyu Mithun over cover for another boundary and the last delivery through the covers for his third boundary. The score went past the 50 mark when Azam began to score freely. He picked a four over the keeper’s head and the next he smashed through the covers.

The first ball of the fifth over from Wayne Parnell was hit by Morgan for a six over deep point. The next he edged over third man for yet another boundary. He also hit the last ball for a boundary to take the score to 72 for 2, needing another 72 from the remaining 30 balls. Mohammad Irfan struck with the second ball of the sixth over by having Azam Khan caught by Lyth at deep mid-wicket for 16. Skipper Kieron Pollard fell to the first ball he faced, clean bowled by Irfan. Muhammad Waseem denied Irfan the hat-trick and then hit the last ball of that over for a six high over mid-wicket.

Morgan reached his half century in 19 balls through his second six off Udana’s seventh over. The score then went past the 100 run mark. With Morgan in full flow, New York Strikers needed 40 runs in the last 18 balls. Waseem hit Mithun for a boundary to make it 27 from the last 12 balls.

Parnell was introduced for the ninth over and Morgan hit his first delivery effortlessly over mid- off for a boundary. The second ball he pulled for a boundary and the fourth he slashed to third man for yet another boundary. Waseem got out to the last ball of the ninth over to a stupendous catch on the long-on boundary line by Powell. Despite losing balance, he went out of the boundary line but came back and took the catch.

With 12 runs needed off the last over, Morgan escaped being caught behind off the first delivery from Junaid Siddiqui. He picked a double off the next two deliveries. He got no run off the third, and off the fourth and fifth he picked two runs each. He hit the last ball for a boundary and returned to standing ovation.

Abu Dhabi : Pakistan batter Iftikhar Ahmed has been in scintillating form in the sixth season of Abu Dhabi T10. Iftikhar, who turns out for the Bangla Tigers scored a superb 49 and then an unbeaten 83 from 30 deliveries. The first unfortunately was in a losing cause while the second earned his side a much-needed win and saw him pick up the Player of the Match award.

For Iftikhar, it is all about building momentum in the shorter format of the game. He said, “In T10 cricket, the thing is one needs to have momentum on their side and once that’s done you can push on.”

However, Iftikhar believes while the cricket calendar is quite hectic nowadays, but explained that they are professionals trained for this.

“Yes, nowadays, we are playing a lot of cricket and I have also just played the T20 World Cup before coming here to the Abu Dhabi T10. But, we have all trained for such situations. We work on our fitness and on our skills in training, put in plenty of hard work, and that is what helps us get through a tough phase. We are all professionals and we have to handle it.”

Adding his weight to the argument was Zimbabwe’s Sikander Raza, who turns out for the Chennai Braves.

“I agree with Iftikhar, we make a lot of sacrifices for our fitness, in terms of diet and rest. We cut out a lot of things in life, like things you want to eat or do. So, these performances and rewards are what we get for all the sacrifices we make in our lives. That’s why it’s extremely rewarding for us to be able to do what we do.”

Raza also had a word of praise for Carlos Brathwaite, who is a World Cup winner with West Indies.

“Carlos is one of our trump cards in the Chennai Braves side. He’s won the World Cup and he’s quite experienced, which is great. To see him shine in difficult conditions over here is extremely rewarding,” Raza said.

Morrisville Samp Army marched into the play-off stage through a well-fought 19-runs win over Deccan Gladiators in the 25th match on the ninth day of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Samp Army posted 126 for 2 in 10 overs through opener Johnson Charles’ unbeaten 58 and David Miller’s unbeaten 35. Chasing the target, Deccan Gladiators could muster only 107 for 5 in 10 overs. Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s unbeaten knock of 41 runs went in vain.

Samp Army won the toss and elected to bat. Karim Janat, who opened the batting with Johnson Charles, hit Josh Little’s fourth delivery of the first over for a boundary to fine leg. Charles pulled the last ball of that over for another boundary. Janat drove Mohammad Hasnain’s first ball of the second over through extra cover for a boundary. He also cut the second delivery to the third man area for a six. Janat went on to then pull the fourth ball for a boundary.

Little ended Janat’s knock by having him caught by Andre Russell at long-on for 21. Skipper Moeen Ali joined Charles. The first ball of the fourth over was brilliantly hit by Charles for a six over long-on. Charles continued to score even when David Wiese was introduced. He hit Wiese’s first delivery over extra cover for a boundary. Moeen Ali too picked his first boundary by bottom edging to the third man region. At the half way mark, Samp Army were 51 for 1.

Charles further accelerated the run flow by hitting Zahoor Khan for two consecutive boundaries off the first two deliveries. Odean Smith ended Moeen Ali’s stay at the wicket through a brilliant catch taken by Russell at long-off for 10. Charles hit Smith’s third ball of the seventh over for a six to deep square leg.

He then scooped Zahoor Khan’s second and third deliveries for boundaries. The ninth over was bowled by Hasnain, and David Miller hit the third delivery for a six to mid-wicket. He also picked a boundary off the next to square leg. Charles ended that over hitting Hasnain over long on for a six and reaching his half century in 27 balls.

The last over saw Miller in his killer form. He hit the first ball from Russell for a boundary and the next two went for sixes. The first six was over extra cover and next one over mid-wicket. Miller remained unconquered on 35 off 13 balls with two boundaries and three sixes. Samp Army thus posted an impressive 126 for 2 in 10 overs.

Encouraging Players to Continue With Risk-Taking Can Be Difficult in T10 If There’s Been a Mistake, Says New York Strikers’ Eoin Morgan

Abu Dhabi : Considered to be one of the most destructive middle-order batters in the game, former England captain Eoin Morgan is doing his thing with aplomb at the sixth season of the Abu Dhabi T10.

An unbeaten 42 from 23 deliveries against the Deccan Gladiators not only helped his side win with ease but also gave him the Player of the Match prize. Morgan is not new to explosive cricket, and certainly not alien to the T10 format.

“I am huge fan of the T10 format and it’s a fun tournament to be part of. We realise that the tournament has gone from strength to strength in recent years. What playing in the T10 does is that it exposes everything there is exposed in a certain period of a T20 game. So, when you look at the power play or death bowling, the two biggest. Moments in T20 cricket I think you have them in abundance. In T10 cricket you don't have a lot of time to think about what you're doing. You're always trying to take on more risk which is difficult at times.”

Morgan also explained that at times the toughest aspect of the T10 format is to continue to take risks. “If you've taken a risk and you make a mistake then the hardest thing is to encourage guys to continue to take risks and back them and support them to do so. That's what T10 does.”

Speaking about the challenges and conditions at the Abu Dhabi T10 this year, Morgan said he noticed a significant change in the ground conditions.

“I think conditions have been a little bit different to say the least, last year or the years that I've played here before and the couple of games that we've played, there was a little bit more bounce in the pitch, which we were surprised by and a bit more pace, which is great for the game, but it's just adapting to what guys have been practicing too and expecting.”

However, England’s only ODI World Cup winning captain said that the challenge of the conditions will play a bigger role in the later half of the tournament.

“It’s the back end of the tournament that will be back to where things are because the conditions are in many ways the surrounds of the condition, so the due factor, the ball getting wet in the evening is still there. I think it's just adapting to the level of pace and bounce on the pitch which I don't think many people expected.”

The last over from Fuller began with two consecutive wide deliveries. The remaining deliveries were bowled tightly and he even got David out for 12. David hit 22 runs off 12 balls before getting caught by Dooley at sweeper cover. Zadran smashed the last delivery through the covers for a boundary and remained unbeaten on 13 to help Delhi Bulls post 119 for 4 in 10 overs.

Aravind hit Fazalhaq for a boundary off the first ball past point and also hit the fourth ball for another boundary. It reduced the required runs to 39 off the last six balls.

Raza hit the first ball of the last over from Stanley for a boundary but fell to the second ball hitting high to Gurbaz at long on for 7. Bravo pulled off a brilliant catch at square leg off to get Henry Brookes out to the fifth ball of the match from Raza and go on to win the match by 31 runs.

Wahab Riaz and Muhammad Waseem help New York Strikers strike down Team Abu Dhabi to clinch top slot

Wahab Riaz’s fine three wicket spell and opener Muhammad Waseem’s unbeaten 45 helped New York Strikers strike down Team Abu Dhabi in the 28th match on the tenth day of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Abu Dhabi Zayed Cricket Stadium on Friday. Team Abu Dhabi got restricted to a paltry 78 for 8 through Wahab Riaz’s three wicket spell for just four runs well backed by Rashid Khan and Tom Hartley with two wickets each.

New York Strikers then raced to the target through Mohammad Waseem’s unbeaten 45 off 20 balls with five sixes and two boundaries. This win helped New York Strikers clinch the top spot in the points table replacing Samp Army who occupied the top position before the start of this match.

New York Strikers after winning the toss elected to bowl. Team Abu Dhabi openers Chris Lynn and Alex Hales began on a slow note with New York Strikers’ opening bowler Akeal Hosein giving away only four runs. In the second over, Tom Hartley too bowled a tight over and even removed captain Lynn caught by his counterpart Pollard at mid-off for 6.

Hales hit Hosein’s first delivery for a six to deep mid-wicket. James Vince too hit Hosein to mid-wicket for another six. Vince also hit Hartley’s third delivery for a six over long-on . Harlety stuck with the last ball of the fourth over having Hales stumped by wicketkeeper Azam Khan for 17. Seeing Hales coming down the wicket, Hartley bowled a quicker one for Khan to do the rest.

The experienced Wahab Riaz had Vince caught by Muhammad Waseem at long-on for 14 with the first ball of the fifth over. Riaz also got Brandon King out, caught by Morgan at extra cover for a duck. Rashid Khan was introduced for the sixth over and Alishan Sharafu hit his second delivery for a six over long-off. With the last ball of his over, Rashid clean bowled Adil Rashid for 1.

With half the Abu Dhabi side back in the dug-out for 48 runs by the end of the sixth over, New York Strikers went for the kill. Jordan Thompson had Alishan caught behind by wicketkeeper Azam Khan for 9. David Payne hit Thompson for a six off the third ball of the seventh over. Andrew Tye hit the last delivery from Thompson for a boundary.

Rashid Khan picked his second wicket by clean bowling Tye with the fourth ball of the eighth over. In the ninth over, Payne too got caught behind by wicketkeeper Azam Khan for 10.

The last over began with Team Abu Dhabi on 68 for 8. Without any boundaries, Thompson gave away only 10 runs to restrict Team Abu Dhabi to a paltry 78 for 8 in 10 overs.

Chasing the moderate total, New York Strikers lost their opener Paul Stirling to the second ball of the first over clean bowled by Naveen Ul Haq. Stirling had come out to to hit Naveen though the on-side but missed the delivery totally. The consistent Eoin Morgan began by cutting Naveen past point for a boundary.

In the second over, UAE opener Muhammad Waseem hit Peter Hatzoglou for a boundary past third man and followed it up with a six to long-on. In the third over from Naveen Ul Haq, Waseem picked another boundary to mid-off. Tye bowled a tight fourth over giving away just five runs.

Adil Rashid who bowled the fifth over, struck as usual. He got the prize wicket of Morgan caught by King at mid-wicket. At the half way stage, New York Strikers needed 41 off the last 30 balls. Waseem hit David Payne’s third delivery from the sixth over for his second six over extra cover and another one over deep square leg. He went on to fire yet another big one off the last ball over backward square leg. Twenty runs came off that over.

Azam Khan got out to Hatzoglou to the fifth ball of the seventh over hitting high to long off for 3. Pollard joined Waseem when 17 runs were needed off 18 balls. Waseem hit a no ball from Tye for a six. Pollard too lifted Tye over long on for a six to win the match with 15 balls to spare.
