December 1988 : Mervyn Hughes takes a most peculiar Test hatrick against the West Indies in Perth

In 42 test hatrick ,this hatrick of marvyn hughes was the most peculiar. It took 3 overs,2 innings and 2days to make the hatrick. It was so peculiar that no one even notice that hatrick and hence marvyn didn't do any celebration though it was the first australian test hatrick in 30 years. After the match all came to know that it was a hatrick.

In the first innings of that match against WI ,marvyn got the wicket of ambrose with the last ball of his 36th over. In his next over he got the wicket of patric Patterson with the first ball of his over and the innings of WI ended with that.After that Australia made 395 in reply of WI's 449. In the 2nd inning of WI marve got wicket of Gordon in the very first ball of his first over. This he made the most peculiar test hatrick of cricket history. He got 8 wkts in that inning. Though his team ended in loosing side.

This trivia was a question asked in the Kaun banega Crorepati (tamil version) a few weeks ago.

Needless to say, the guy answered it wrong.

Actually, Courtney Walsh took an almost identical hat trick the Test before.

He took the tenth wicket of Australia's First Innings followed by wickets on the first two balls of the Second Innings!

That was 2over's hatrick but marvyn's was 3over's hatrick and that is the speciality of his hatrick.
