Is Shaheen Shah Afridi Talented? If so, what talent or skill does he possess to be a front line test bowler.

1. Does he have pace? (He has Above Average Pace but Nothing that Would Frighten the Opposition).

2. Does he have control? (Not Consistently. He can get in rhythm and demonstrate control.)

3. Does he have swing? (He can and does sometimes swing the ball, but not with any regularity or control)

4. Does he have seam? (Balls he bowls can sometimes seam, but it's not deliberate)

5. Is he a sequencing bowler? (No. Shaheen Shah generally makes decisions on what he's going to bowl based on what the captain tells him, what the batsman just did, or how he feels when walking to his run up.

So how do we define his talent? Shaheen is a tall fast bowler with the physical tools to become an elite fast bowler. In his short career he's demonstrated an ability to take wickets without having any of the technical or physical attributes discussed above. We need to build the organizational and intellectual capacity to think about selection in a more educated and process oriented way. We need to think about how we develop players. At this moment in time I can safely say that we don't have any structure around player development. Hence, talent rises, it impresses briefly, but it fails to sustain itself. It becomes a victim of T20 leagues where it only has to impress for a short time.

No. I like Shaheen a lot. But this is the reason our bowlers don't improve. Wahab Riaz has added no skills since he debut in 2007. We should think deeper when we analyze talent than just looking at someone's height, his bowling action, and how a bowler looks.

Shaheen is a fine bowler for our standards.

But he doesn't have it in him to become the best in the world. Mostly relies on seam.

Naseem is the one who has the raw ingredients. But, it depends if he learns to swing the ball, then yes, can become the best.

This was also a docile lifeless pitch. Can't judge them here. Too inexperienced as well.

We do need another tear away bowler to form a formidable attack. Right now it's not good enough and will take a few years to mature.
