You have to spend your entire life in a remote desert island and are allowed to bring 5 DVDs of the movies of your choice.Which ones would you go for?
Keep in the mind that these are the movies you are going to watch for the rest of your life so choose sensibly.
I would go with
The Godfather
Dazed and confused
Taxi Driver
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
Trainspotting

5 is a really small number but if I have to choose

The Godfather
The Good The Bad and The Ugly
Judgment at Nuremberg
Pulp Fiction
Up

The Godfather 2
Pulp Fiction
The Dark Knight
Airplane
The Departed

Whats so good about sunshine of the spotless mind?

Its the first film in the top 250 imdb movies that I've watched that I couldn't finish, was horrible.

1. The Lion King - Iconic feel good film. Good for inspiring you to mount a return to your true place.

2. The Godfather - You can spend/waste endless hours admiring the sheer quality of the filmmaking and acting involved.

3. Either of Memento/Inception/The Matrix - Need a good mindf*** movie to keep you disengaged from the sheer loneliness you'll face on the island .

4. A good artsy erotic film - Well, a man has needs, and regular pr0n will bore you out . I'd suggest "The Blue lagoon" (for the "trapped on Island" thing) or something good from Tinto Brass or maybe 'Basic Instinct".

5. The Good The Bad and The Ugly or Raiders of the lost Ark - Eminently re-watchable adventure films, that have good sections set in the desert, where you're staying.

I find "Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind" one of the best movies of 21st century. It's so refreshing, original and devoid of any Hollywood clichés. The way of storytelling alone makes it one of the most original movies of this era. Plus its so very optimistic and romantic, which perhaps is the reason that it can be re-watched over and over.

P. S. I find it surprising that this was the only movie in IMDB 250 you couldn't watch. Suppose you handled movies like "The Lives of Others " or Bergman's Polish movies better than this? Strange!
