What's new

Despite this tournament Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi will be world class players

This thread didn't age well at all. Typical knee jerk reactions after the Asia Cup. Shaheen will be world class. He has the most potential out of all fast bowlers in the cricketing world right now. There aren't many teams that have bowlers more skilled than Shaheen right now, and he isn't even 20 yet.

Babar will be number 1 across formats in 2 years time.

Can't say much about Imam. He needs to rotate strike more in ODIs. He also needs to stop fishing outside off stump in Tests.

Like I say. 2018 Asia cup never happened. 2016 was just t20. Last real Asia cup pakistan played was in 2014! It's been a while since we played an Asia cup .

Anyone with half a brain could see that Babar was coming into his own by 2018.

Shaheen was green but obviously talented as he proved a few months later by blowing NZ away in the ODI series.

Imam is still suspect because of his glaring lack of ability to hit big and hit consistently but is a good option for the next few years.

I think you mean the comments in the thread haven't aged well. My thread title has aged perfectly! :)

Babar was still performing decently during that time. It’s mind boggling to see people write him off even back then.

He wasn’t leaving up to his potential but still batting fine to our standards.

2018 was the year after which babar completely changed his game ,he was slow but consistent Softie but 2018 was a disaster for him he couldn't even score runs at low SR He Had SR of 79 lowest in A calender year for him.
And Average of 36 ( Helped by last Series against NZ otherwise it could have been 30)
No wonder people Were Not happy With him .
But look at him Now He Changed his Game in Every Format
He Scores Faster In t20
He Scores At 100SR with More Avrg then previous years in odi
He SR in Tests As of late is 75 with an Avrg of 86
He Dominates the Bowler with Ease ,has different Aura about him Really Happy for him he Is getting what he deserves for his Hard work

Babar has shown that with faith, investment in his development and hard work talent can be turned into consistency. When he made his debut he looked good, well he’s always looked good, but adapting his game and not just relying of easy runs is the hallmark of a world class player. He’s consistent but with flair and intelligence.

Shaheen was incredibly raw when he made his debut but he reminds me Gary much of a Young wasim Akram. It took a few years for wasim to bring the ball into a RHB from over the wicket and now that shaheen has developed this ball he’s a major weapon. He’s consistent, fast, accurate and swings it both ways. He’s truly world class.

Imam will hopefully make a return. Nepotism can get you noticed but his consistency of performance will keep him with the team. For a while he made some consistent scores. I’d like to see him in the top 3 somewhere but he’s as good as Shan so it’s a toss between these two I guess. Imam is not nor never will be world class. He lacks that ex factor but he’s a work in progress.

Babar is world class. Shaheen should develop into a world class bowler.

Imam has a lot of work to do. I think tests is his best format even though he hasn't shown that. In ODIs he is the type of player to hold an end. Does need to improve his strike rotation and shot range to ensure he keeps bowlers under pressure. I would not give up on Imam yet. 1 fear is that Misbah is not someone who I trust to develop batters. PCB have made a big mistake by not hiring a specialist batting coach.

Imam is a question mark. Babar and Shaheen are no doubt quality players.

My two favorites currently.

Babar and Shaheen both made the pakistan team on merit and are the main batsmen and bowler in the team. Imam is an average player at best who needs to improve and earn his position back in the side.

Babar and Afridi are easily best players of Pakistani team... Babar is a world class batsman. Afridi is almost their, if he has a good English summer and the T20, he will be there.

Next possible World Class player is Naseem, he is very good. If he stay fit, in 2 years he be be world class.

When you have 4/5 world class player, team become top tier team. One class batsman and high quality spinner would do it. Easier said then done.

From the current team the three you have outlined are the only world class talents. Babar, Shaheen, and potentially Naseem.

I’m also looking at Haider Ali as Pakistan’s only other potentially world class talent if developed properly, based purely on how dynamic he has shown he is across U19, QAE, and PSL

Not sure if I can think of any other current players who scream “world class in 5 years”

If Imam Can Emulate dhawan ( limited but Effective) then it will be a big plus for us

The opening posts shows that the PP arm chair experts have as much insight of cricketing talent as a half eaten doughnut.

Read their posts and take the opposing view and you will be safe!

Lol. Imam is nowhere near Babar and Shaheen in terms of quality. He’s overrated and sadly we’re stuck with him because there’s no other options.
