Did benching Imad Wasim really help Pakistan taste victory again?

Imad can replace malik after the world cup, just needs to work on either hitting the short ball or letting it go. maybe masood can help him play the short ball

Nope, this is the last we see of him and rightly so. Post world cup Khusdil sha, iftikhar ahmed, saud shakeel will be given a chance

Where have I questioned shadab’s usefulness? Can’t you read? Shadab is the first name on the list.

Shohaib and imad are as bad as each other but if everybody is taking the ball away from RHB then you also need bowlers threatening the inside edge and targeting lhb.
 
Imad should be in the side. He is more useful with the ball than Malik and Hafeez combined. He is more useful with the bat than Asif Ali. His lower-order hitting is underrated, his pacey, full length seam-up or whatever he bowls are also underrated.

A player should be lauded when he's doing good. Sadly, Imad has been useless in the ODI team until start of match today. We've lost many matches because of him

Today was a good day as he did well in batting, and I'm happy.

Anwar Ali and Bilawal Bhatti have won more matches than Imad can ever dream of doing it. Seems like you've forgotten how Anwar won us a match single handedly.

Yet they're out of the team because their overall caliber is poor, they're mediocre railu kattas.

Imad is also mediocre and in that league, however, today was a good day for him and PAK, he did well.
 
lol thought this thread would be bumped. Imad's clearly proven his place in the side now. If anything it's Shadab who's more under pressure, had we picked a spinner like Zafar gohar or someone who could be relied to get more turn out of the pitch, Shadab could have lost his place to him.
 
Imad did the same against Sri Lanka in 2016 alongside Anwar Ali (Wahab role).

Do you guys remember more innings from him?

He is the knack of finishing innings. Gets bullied on PP but has been handy in ODI/T20's.

I'm not his cheerleader, I will repeat I have no issues if he gets dropped after this WC.

I stand against your hate filled agenda, as evident from this thread you made.

Don't bring Anwar Ali and Bilawal Bhatti into this and as for them with "have won more matches than Imad", seems like it's another statement from your propaganda machine.

At least you have given Imad the credit he deserves.
 
His temperament bails him out. He knows how to keep a cool head in a run chase. It is not a coincidence that he remains not out frequently - he thinks.
 
I’m fairly indifferent towards Imad, but even his biggest fans can’t deny that he was doing nothing to win us the match until Gulbadin made the inexplicable decision to bowl himself.

And even after that over, Imad reverted back to the cluelessness he’d exhibited against the spinners previously.
 
This was his career best knock, he was lucky to survive that plumb lbw against Rashid but showed intelligence to take full advantage of Gulbuddin
 
I’ve always said, Imad is a staple of the team. You will get at least one side of the ball nearly every match, and if you get both, you’re going to win more often than not.
 
One thing is surely funny.

Had Afghan taken the catch in the Gulbuddin over, opinion about Imad would have been 180 degrees different. :))

A guy who wasted balls and then holed out.

Still not convinced. poor fielder a darter and most of the time fails in batting, qe need to invest in youngster after WC, will be a disaster if we keep on playing him after wc.

It’s too late to drop him. He’s been lucky to come this far. I don’t know what’s wrong with Haris, fakhar hafeez who can’t bowl his overs and bring In asif Ali as a genuine batsman or a proper spinning all rounder like zafar gohar but anyway this is Pakistan cricket and so it rolls onwards and upwards.

Nothing more valuable than high IQ players. It's why Australia dominated for so long and Pakistan in the 90s were a failure considering their talent. Australia had 6-7 guys who could captain.

I doubt Asif Ali or for that matter many players would have had the mental strength to finish the game today.

I have even seen many top players struggling like no tmw against a particular bowler or at the start of their innings. To continue for the team and capitalizing on the oppurtunities requires a lot of temperament.
 
He struggled against spin and was fortunate to survive, but he remained calm and took the charge to Gulbaddin. Finally a significant knock from him.

Asif Ali doesn’t have the mental strength to take a catch right now but I’m just thinking which other bona fide batsman we have in squad.

We dont have any other bona fide batsman in the squad unfortunately. Malik is almost finished while Asif Ali can play a very limited role and its a shame he doesnt bowl or even an impactful fielder.

Saud Shakeel, Khushdil Shah, Iftikhar Ahmed are few players who could have been groomed and two of them could have been in this squad. Saud Shakeel is a a classy conventional batsman while Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmed are probably the only two batsmen in domestics who can hit the bowl miles and that too consistently as we can see from their averages, Sr and 100s in List A and on top of that Iftikhar is as good an off spinner as some specialist offies in Pak. Khushdil can also bowl decent off spin while Saud Shakeel is a handy left arm spinner.

But its all in hindsight as reality we dont have any decent batsmen in the squad outside of the XI we are playing.

Exactly. Imad has just been average recently, but Faheem was looking like a club level player. 2 years of persistence at the international LOI level and not a single score over 30... Yet somehow Imad is the concern.

So we’ve come full circle back to the point I made that...imad retains his spot because there is no viable alternative at this stage. Might as well persist with him until we get knocked out of World Cup. He’s not the worst option but he’s definitely the weakest link.

However let’s not pretend that this is a quality all rounder. He can’t bowl, as in he’s extremely one dimensional and let’s not pretend he can bat, he was out today three times before the captaincy error let him off the hook. Let alone Australia or India even Bangladesh would eat him for breakfast unless he ups his game. As for being an intelligent cricketer he’s definitely not a Mike brearly who can make it into the team on his cricketing nouse alone. However gutsy his knock today we have to judge him after about 5/6 years in international cricket as a flash in the pan performance.

iMAD IS NOT BLESSED WITH GOD GIVEN TALENTED. HOWEVER HE IS WILLING TO BOWL AT DIFFICULT TIMES AND PUTS HIS HAND UP TO BOWL WHEN NEEDED. HE IS WILLING TO TO TAKE THE TEAM TO VICTORY WITH HIS BATTING NO MATTER HOW LIMITED THAT IS. HE HAS ALL THE ATTRIBUTES TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL INTERNATIONAL CAREER. HE IS IMPROVING ALL THE TIME AND I HAVE WARMED TO HIM. I WOULD RATHER HAVE HIM THE TEAM THAN OTHER MORE TALENTED EGOS WHO BOTTLE IT WHEN THEY ARE NEEDED. IMAD CAN BE THE NEXT ODI CAPTAIN AND LEAD THE TEAM AS HE IS GOOD UNDER PRESSURE AND IS NOT FAZED WHEN UNDER EXTREME PRESSURE.
 
Stayed calm till the end today even though didn’t know what was happening around him. The game was won by his cool headednes and a story to tell his grandsons.

Imad has always been a gutsy and class player. I hope he gets the chance to lead Pakistan. He is a class apart from other Pakistani players due to his mental toughness.
 
I was really glad to see Wasim perform. I think, and always have thought, that he is the heartbeat of the team.

Think most people who have supported him know his value lies more in his batting than his bowling.
 
People hate on Imad for no reason. Imad is the only brave player Pak has along with Wahab. Imad has always played fearless cricket. The same people who hate Imad love that fake allrounder Shadab who does nothing apart from smiling for the camera. If Shadab wasn’t run out against Afghanistan, we might have lost. Need to thank fighters Imad and Wahab.

Imad was all over the shop against Rashid.
However I knew we needed to just see of him and Mujeeb. To be fair, the Afghans bowled well.

The drop catch was hitting severely so a bit of luck helped. But finally we nailed it.
 
He was out plumb on spin early in his innings but thanks to the umpire he could continue playing.

He played really well but i will reserve my praise for him till i see few more innings of him showing good intent.
 
Top knock from him today His calmness and level head is what stands out Hes clear under pressure and thats why many times hes not out in the end

Hes a must in a team where players throw their wkts away for fun Well played
 
Really important innings yesterday. I've called him the king of soft runs before but he done well in a pressure situation for once. Imad Zindabad!

What a champion player! I had always backed him from day one. I hope I see him leading Pakistan.

A gutsy player who never backs down and is willing to take the attack to the opposition. A calm, and composed batsman.

Yea and power of modern cricket. Where Eoin Morgan is statistically better than Javed Miandad.

Other players' stats are inflated too. I don't see anybody calling them out.
 
OP is right.

He is another Hafeez/Malik in the making. Mediocre at his primary job and fluke performances with the bat against minnows will not change his stature as a player. PCB should not make the same mistake they made before with Malik. These average players should never be made our captain.

If he is a bits and pieces player, then everybody in the team including Babar are bits and pieces.

No other player comes close to Imad when it comes to standing up when the chips are down. He is a class act!
 
He is a slightly above average player. It's his mental toughness which makes him a class apart.

32 matches, average 62, economy 5.18

Clearly, these numbers do not suit a player who plays as an all-rounder. Even a part-timer can better these numbers.

Against the same teams (barring Australia against whom Shadab is yet to play), Shadab's numbers:

23 matches, average 37, economy 5.17

Going forward, Pakistan has to replace one of them with a specialist spinner. Shadab is easily the better bowler at this moment and should continue playing for Pakistan.

Imad can only stay on the team if he is good enough to bat in top 6 then he can play as a specialist batsman and a part-time bowler.

He is a good LO player. I don't get the hate for him. We can see he isn't captaincy material. But he can keep things tight with the ball and is developing into a good late order player in LO.

He isn't going to be a Shakib or Stokes but he is good enough for Pakistan right now.

It's mostly from Misbah fans and I suspect it's because Imad's batting record in ODIs is better, which has left them feeling insecure. Yes his average is inflated a bit by batting lower down the order but it isn't easy to hit from ball one, so he deserves all the credit for averaging 40+ at more than run a ball.
 
He's economical on any pitch. Doesn't matter if he spins it or not.
Hits a long ball no matter the opposition. He has finished a lot of T20I games for PAK alongwith Malik.
Good fielder.

Stats back him up as well.

Don't understand what's not to like here.

He's improved very much so with the bat. His reliability as been the biggest help to Pakistan down the order. unfortunately his bowling seems to be getting worse and losing his accuracy.
 
I think there's no doubt about what Imad Wasim, the T20 player, is capable of both with bat & ball.

But main problem is persisting with him in ODIs, he's completely wasting a spot there.
 
Imad is undergoing a purple patch right now where he is immensely economical with the ball in the powerplay and this patch happened to coincide with a lot of matches in either UAE or England which suit his drifty, darty bowling.

Not sure Imad can retain his effectiveness in India, let alone Australia in 2022. Right now he is a genuine utility player - one year later, he might be reduced to a batting all-rounder who is neither here nor there like Malik but spins the ball less.

Imad is valuable in T20s so long as he maintains his economy - he adds depth at the number 7/8 batting position as well.

But I am anxious to develop a backup in Zafar Gohar.
