Did Fakhar Zaman just end Mohammad Hafeez’s career?

Two fifties in 2 innings in his debut test match deserves an applaud. Fakhar Zaman was completely out of touch in the recently concluded Asia Cup and probably didn’t fancy getting a chance in the test matches against Australia. Did he make the most of the opportunity or what! He has already become Pakistan’s most impactful player in the LOIs. With his ODI partner Imam-ul-Haq playing quite well on the other end, Fakhar Zaman looks like the obvious choice for the test matches too now. Where does that leave Mohammad Hafeez? In all honesty, M. Hafeez should’ve never been selected! Pakistan’s policy of going back to tried and tested players must end. I really thought Pakistan had gone past it, but then they recall M. Hafeez. I mean what did they expect from him at his listed age of 38? I just hope he will be dropped for good now and Fakhar Zaman might’ve just made that decision easy for Pakistan’s selectors.

Premature thread. In Pakistan cricket, no one's career is over until the player retires and in many cases not even then. It's like what an insurance company tagline is - zindagi ke saath bhi, zindagi ke baad bhi..

I remember two years ago after the England series people saying Sami Aslam ended Mohammad Hafeez's career.

In the summer after Imam-ul-Haq plundered runs against Zimbabwe people said there was no way back for Hfeez yet here we are.

All it'll take is one player to go out of form, and a timely run of domestic form for Hafeez for the bandwagon to start rolling.

Hafeez is 38 now, isn't he? Even he cannot play forever and Inzamam is already phasing him out. The only reason he was selected in this squad was because the coach and/or captain asked for him and they were rattled after the poor Asia cup performance.

You don't select a 37 year old in T20s when your trying to phase them out.

You will probably defend Hafeez selection in South Africa if he plays as an opener even though Steyn has embrassed him time after time.
