Did India pay the price for not playing specialist batsmen in the 2019 World Cup?

How can a team win a knock out game, chasing, with 4 keepers in top 6?

All have their issues. Rahul mentally down, Pant reminds of Akmal and Dhoni plays like 70s.

We have been saying it for couple of years. Every Indian fan on PP with half a brain knew our shortcomings. We all hoped Kohli, Rohit dhawan will fail in group stages and not knockouts but they failed in knockouts so that's the end of it.

Selectors and team managers are stooges to corporates and lobbies. Nothing new here incompetent people run team so deserve this humiliation.

It was coming and I believe all knew. None the less, I believe it will change in the next tour. So not much of a big issue in terms of selection.

The Dinesh Kartik selection is a weird one.

Never been overly impressed with his batting and he's a liability in the field.

Pant reminds of Akmal and Dhoni plays like 70s.

I haven't seen much of Pant except for against England and NZ.. and you're right, he does remind me of Umar Akmal. Talented but just throws it away. As long as he doesn't behave like him off the field, he will have a chance to improve.

Rayudu will be laughing with his 3D glasses on for playing Railu Kattas.

That’s true and especially these guys let Vijay Shankar go for the little pocket sized maniac pant lol I always knew that was gonna be a big fail he doesn’t have the mentality to last long even in test cricket he plays the same way which if he continues to do so he will be axed soon but he’s more of the golden boy and everyone’s favourite these days especially after the Australia test series that’s why I don’t see him ever gone anytime soon

KL is a part time keeper. And he is proper batsman and opener.

Issue was DK.

Honestly i dont know how can you play DK while Mayank is in the team.

Mayank should have played no.4 . Or he should have opened and KL at 4.

This should have been the team since BD match.

Shubman Gill anyone? Proper batsmen. Prithvi Shaw? Rayudu? Mayank?
How can Indian selectors be so naive to not pick specialist batsmen?

1.Prithvi Shaw
2.Shubman Gill
3.Virat Kohli
4.KL Rahul
5.Mayank Agarwal
6.Rishabh Pant
7.Hardick Pandya

Why are people complaining about playing 4 keepers? How does it matter? They were picked because they were thought to be good enough to get into the squad on their batting, not because of their fielding position.

Rahul isn't a regular keeper anyway. Just a part-time one, like Kedar Jadhav was once for RCB.

Playing Pant at 4 was a good prank done by team management on Indian fans. Team management would like to say this to fans as they say after every prank these days

'aapke saath prank hua hai, camera udhar hai, haath hilaa de' :inti

India played the best possible lineup they could given the preparations they had done for the World Cup. If you can't chase even 240, then it is the preparation that should be questioned.

Rishabh Pant was not seen as next no. 4 by Indian fans but someone who could bat in the last 20 overs and do some power hitting after Dhoni and karthik/Rayudu builds the innings. With experience and time, he would have learned to take more responsibility and by the time he turns 25, he could have been our new Yuvraj. Imagine a Yuvraj Singh of 2000 coming to bat in that situation at no. 4, how fair it was to him.

It always had to be Dinesh Karthik and MSD coming in the middle order, taking some time and building the inning(target was 240,so them facing lots of bowls won't have been the issue) for India to have a chance and then Pant, Pandya and Jadeja to finish things off.

The batting position was so messed up that even after a Jadeja masterclass, we failed to chase 240,which nine out of 10 times India would have chased down.
