Asif was involved in fights, caught using drugs twice. Yet the guy did not care and even went further to spot fixing.

The reputation of Asif that had been developed was that he will keep on making mistakes.

One of the reasons why Amir was allowed back was the assumption, that he will owe up to his mistakes. He will learn.

But while Amir came back after serving his ban for fixing, he not only came back, but placed blame of his poor performance on different people. Never owed up.

Infact, when Amir talks about his ban, he talks in a tone that PCB and ICC was after him and that because he served a ban he should get leniency. He has still never owed up to what he did. Still places blame around.

So is Amir just another Asif? Will he just look to blame others and not owe up?

Think he is worse. The thing with Asif is we all knew his motivations early on. The guy also never pretended to be a saint. He was shady and he seemed to wear that like a badge of honour.

Amir is the eternal victim and even he feels that way

Asif was the most casual individual out there. Even if he was hit by a truck, you would expect him to shrug it off and giggle.

Amir on the other hand was never without his rona-dhona. From beginning to end.

Amir is a deceptive and cunning individual. He has conned the PCB and is nothing more than guy with just money on his mind.

He can blame Salman Butt all he likes but he knew what he was doing and sold his morals for some quid.

Unlike Amir, Asif actually didn't do it for money. As mentioned by GudduBadmash, that guy was just a villain without trying to pull on the sharif act.

Amir is a fake. I used to be on his side because of track record in big stake matches but unfortunately he's turned his back on the team in favour of T20 leagues when we need him the most.

I haven't seen Asif blame others for his faults, that is a valid point that you guys have made

Asif hasn't really complained or cried over the media ever. Probably cause he also knew he was wrong and shouldn't get any sympathies. Sort of dealt like a man even though with carefree attitude. Amir on the other hand always considered his right.

If Asif was 27 years old in 2015, the PCB would perhaps have backed him as well. Unfortunately he was 33 years old at the time and given his past record, the PCB decided it wasn't worth it. But Amir was 23 at the time and the PCB he had plenty to offer to Pakistan.

The biggest loss of 2010 spot fixing scandal was not Butt, was not Amir, but was indeed Mohammed Asif. This guy was a magician

Actually, Amir was 25. He’s been confirmed to have a 2 year difference.

He’s currently 30.

Lol Asif in many interviews used to smile, giggle and sometimes even aggressively answer that Amir was not the innocent clueless bacha everyone propagated him to be in 2010, he knew exactly what he was doing and his actions post ban have more or less confirmed the same.

I don't like the way this has ended but I like how the PCB treated Amir a lesson. He had no right to cry about not being selected. When you are dropped, you put your head down and work hard to get your place back. You don't make sly digs on social media. And now he has retired he is blaming everyone apart from himself. His lack of taking responsibility is an absolute disgrace.

Pakistan is better off without cricketers who refuse to take responsibility and a fixer.

This should be a lesson to all cricketers respect and play with pride for your country

Couldn’t agree more.

10 years ago I used to be disgusted at those who insisted that Amir deserves a life ban but now I look back, he actually deserved it.

After Amir’s displays in the 2017 CT and 2019 WC I was hopeful he would be opening the bowling for the side with Shaheen in India come 2022. Don’t think he’d be so ungrateful and have this sense of entitlement after the spot-fixing he was involved in.

Unfortunately Amir is turned out to worse than Butt and Asif. He got special treatment from PCB and from us fans and at the end he took advantage of that.
I didn't like some of my college or University teachers but I didn't drop out. Very shrewd attitude and he should never consider to play in any form of Pakistan cricket whether its domestic, PSL or International.

Me feeling same. I don't like Waqar-Misbah combo but Amir took it at other level. He shouldn't be taken by by new management in future.

Whichever uncle fudged Amir's age did it perfectly. Another year here or there and he wouldn't have got off so lightly as he did in 2010.

Amir turned out to be the most ungrateful cricketer to ever come from pakistan

Yeah he certainly looks well older than his "official age" of 28.

If we have any fixers going forward, ban them from international cricket for life. The way we have treated Amir shows future Pakistan players, you can fix and still play for Pakistan. Which is an absolute disgrace of a situation to be in.

It should be a law thats the only way it will stop people from fixing matches

2 different characters:

One doesn't want to play for Pakistan.

One doesn't know what day it is.

Mohammad Asif was pure of heart, he just chose the wrong profession.

Keeping aside attitude issues, people would still be talking about Mohammad Asif in 25 years due to the sheer skill he possessed.

Amir, in contrast, was just a slightly superior version of Rahat Ali.

Start with Sharjeel and ensure he never returns to international cricket..

It makes my blood boil when I see fans calling for him to return  - need to show no tolerance for any fixers moving forward

Yes thats fine it should be lifetime bans or even imprisonment but since people are getting away i think then sharjeel needs to given a chance if hes scoring runs in domestic 4 day compition unlike amir who didnt want to play longer format for his country
