Did Pakistan miss a trick by not playing Shadab Khan in the first Test?

Early days for this match but Shadab Khan bowling in this attack would have been interesting, especially since he has done well in recent times.

Maybe a little wake-up call for Yasir also as he should not consider himself an automatic selection.

Lets see how this Test pans out but Shadab should always be in the frame for selection

Yasir looks very flat with no spark. Maybe shadab can play next match if Yasir continues to struggle

Pakistan are missing a 5th bowler as I pointed out before. Bowlers are getting tired.

If he doesn't pick up more than 4-5 wickets this Test, Shadab should replace Yasir for the 2nd Test.

No, Shadab was hardly effective in the ODI's.

He didn't even bowl that testing line and length, meaning he is very likely to be picked off and can only get wickets by bamboozling the batsmen, but they don't need to go after him in Tests and can defend him.

If Yasir continues to struggle, then bring in Shahzaib Ahmed.

Let Shadab and Usama learn to bowl in 4 day games, before being given Test runs.

there is no need to rush Shadab in, unless Yasir has a shocker this match, id play him in the next.

why not play both ?

Ill be shocked if Misbah goes with two leggies, one of whom is a rookie. Besides Asghar more than merits a spot

Yes but for how long?

If he fails on three successive tours in NZ, AUS, and then WI too, he doesn't deserve a spot in the XI.

If he doesnt have a good tour then im sure Yasir will be gone.

Am open to investing in Shadab, he is much younger then Yasir anyway. One thing is for sure, the two can not play simultaneously. Also, where's ma offie G's at!!!! Square Drive we could do with a balanced bowling attack yaar :mv am pretty sure we often throw around a couple of names on this forum. I suppose we have asghar in the squad which is great

Personally don't think shadab is test match material. He seems more like a limited overs bowler where the batsman go after him and he takes wickets. If yasir fails then asghar deserves a chance.

Instead of Yasir Shah? That's a big risk as we do not know how he would fare against batsmen tuk tuking.

As a 2nd spinner? What's the use of two leggies? Also we have M. Asghar there who himself is an exceptional talent.

The only way Shadab could have played was as a batting allrounder batting at 7 just like R. Ashwin. Misbah is too conservative for this and will always prefer a specialist bat.

So that's the story for you.

No.

We didn't need a second spinner today and the opposition are allowed to bat well for a little bit.

Early days on this tour for him but Yasir needs to turn it around soon.

WAHAB is a waste of space... to play him, i would bring a bowling machine instead and program it to ball 6 bouncers...

Yasir must be thinking cricket is a funny game. 2 wickets in 420 balls, followed by 2 wickets in 2 balls.

Hmm not many offies going around. Bilal Asif, Agha Salman, and maybe Nasir Awais come to mind but don't think any of them are suited to Test cricket tbh.

If you're looking for non-leggies though, Asghar and Zafar are two excellent options.

Bit harsh on Yasir, let's see how he fairs in the second innings.

Shadab has looked great in T20's, it's not a reflection on how someone will do in tests. He should get a county contract and learn the trade of bowling out batsmen who are defending.

Yasir is still a fantastic legspinner, just had one bad tour in Aus and was mismanaged pretty badly there.

No, I think including Shadab in the test team would be a hasty & rash decision. If he's successful in the LOI format, let him continue to do well there for a while. Also, though Yasir has been poor in NZ & AUS, he's still undroppable for me at this point in time!

No

There is nothing which suggests that Shadab would have done any better than (or even as good as) Yasir has done so there was no point dropping Yasir and bringing in Shadab.

Given the pitch conditions, it also would have made no sense to drop a pacer or a batsmen to bring in an extra spin bowler.

In hindsight, since Yasir didn't look overly threatening today, it's easy to say that Pakistan has missed a trick. However, the fact is it's only Day 1 and with the assistance the pitch is giving by the pacer, any and all spin bowlers would have been under the pump and attacked by the West Indian batsmen.

Before this game to drop Yasir, a batsmen or a pace bowler to bring in Shadab would have been a very premature and brash decision in my opinion.

Given the pitch and over head conditions, it made sense to give Mohammad Abbas his Test debut since he is a seam bowler. However, there was nothing of the sort to suggest that Shadab should have been included.

If the pitch is taking spin then should have played two spinners. Have only watched some 30 mins of today's play so don't know what the pitch conditions are.

A bit too early but worth investing him for the longer term. You have to make these players earn the test cap so they value it too.

He still has to get more first class games under his belt. Too early to drop Yasir.

I am not with the decision to play shadab in test match against WI, utilize him in CT then put him under pressure. If he fails in tests this will put him under pressure. Save shadab and Hassan for CT.

Yasir Shah's worrying form will result in a Shadab debut sooner than later.
