Do ICC's rules on delays to start of game due to rain need a re-think?

Currently it is raining. Now when the rain stops, then they will decide to have Toss, and after Toss takes place then the game gets started 30 minutes later

Now why cant they not just have the Toss indoor?

Second thing,

When the rain gets stopped, only 15 minutes later an inspection time is given, after that inspection time is give, the umpire comes and oks the field. AFter it has been oked, 30 minutes are given for both teams to come out.

Don't you think too much delay is added?

I agree about the toss. They can actually do that prior to the game indoors. No need for them wait for the rain to stop and have the captain's walk out to the pitch for the toss. It is just a waste of time in the rain delayed games.

Although it takes some extra time, but that is what it is.

You can't have the toss without knowing the number of overs to be played in the match. A team might want to chase in a 20 over game and bat first in a 45 over game, whose going to tell them the numbers of overs likely?

The time before the inspection until the match gets started properly is needed to dry off the ground, especially some wet areas in the outfield.

1999 World Cup India v England match was played in 2 days. Why can't the same be done in 2019?

29th May was the original day when India v England 1999 world cup match took place, almost 30% of the match was played the following day.

We are talking about an era of cricket when there was no social media or even internet was significantly rare and yet ICC was fully aware of rain issues.

If my memory serves me well, without reserve day if England and India had shared 1 point each on 29th May, then probably England would have gone through with 7 points and India would have been knocked out even before super sixes.

ICC messed up ICC 2002 Champions trophy, how can they award same Trophy to 2 winners ? There was reserve day in the final, but afterwards Trophy should have been avoided with a toss coin, or high net run rate in group stages (which ever team in respective group) or higher ICC ODI Ranking. Till this day neither Indians or Sri lankans openly claim that they won 2002 ICC Champions trophy.

This world cup is already 7 weeks long, with reserve days for the semifinals and final. How much longer do you want it to be?

Reserve day does not impact schedule of world cup. Tomorrow there are 2 matches, if today's game is washed out, then there could be 3 matches in 1 day.

In 1999 on reserve day, 30th May, there was Australia v West Indies match which went as per schedule. Reserve days do not impact schedules.

Probably due to commercial reasons they do not want that. If the final is washed out on both days trophy will be shared by both teams. I know it sucks given that this is an area where you get a lot of rain.

It should be immediate toss when the rain stops, and quicker time to get going after toss (10 min?)

Also there should be a rule that entire ground is covered during rain, will eliminate many delays due to drying up

Agreed. Commercial reasons are the real reasons.

ICC is the worst governing body across all sports. They are still stuck in the 1900s

Rain stopped at 2:05, inspectation takes place at 2 35, now next inspectation will take place at 3 15

now then we will have toss, then there will be further delay.

27 years later ICC learned nothing.. They were shameless in asking SA to make 22 runs in 1 ball they will do the same again...

I'm still baffled as to how SA agreed to the revised playing conditions and not make a bigger deal out of it. If Pak were in that situation I would have liked for the whole team to lodge a protest and refuse to take the field.

The delays are understandable like the above posters have mentioned, however what i don't agree with are these cut off times etc. We have the whole day there is crowds in the ground, why does play need to start before 4:19pm to have a game?

Thats for broadcasters

i would assume that broadcasting windows are very expensive, thus they have to wrap up the show on time.
