Do PSL teams play foreigners for the sake of playing them?

I look at at some of these Australian, England , South African players and they are not used to the pitches in this region yet we play them.

Instead why don’t we play local guys like Khurram Mansoor, Mukhtar Ahmed, Saud Shakeel. Honestly they would do better on these pitches than these average foreign players.

What's the point of this thread??
It's the psl. If u want to watch pakistani players then watch the national t20 cup.

The point is it’s good to have foreign players who can contribute. Not just fill in a slot in the Team. Play the best 11

Let's be honest, some of the overseas players are absolutely awful and not even better than some of the Pakistani players sat warming the bench, just so these overseas players can be in the starting XI.

Overseas per eleven needs to be reduced. Should only allow 3.

Unfortunately, there is a mandatory rule of playing 4 foreigners in the line up.

I agree, there are a lot of low quality foreign players and Pak reserves warming the bench are better.

They should reduce it to 3 or 2.

Yeah putting it that way i agree there should be only 2 or 3.
4 seems a bit too forced

Look at Karachi be terrible

Khurram Mansoor is so much better then some of these guys.

Poor quality overseas players devalues the PSL.

At the end of the day one of the main objectives of PSL should be to groom younger players - that is not going to happen when they are just sat there carrying the drinks.

Sikandar Raza is a good example, he can't bat.

3 foreign players is better option when you have most international teams playing right now. All you are left with is domestic stars that people have no clue about.

Imran Khan said it once and it got people angry. But the truth is that A class players either prefer IPL or are busy playing international cricket.

The PCB needs to move the PSL into a period where there isn't much international cricket. Like for example when the IPL is on. The IPL won't have all the best players at once so some decent players will be available for the PSL instead of these unknown average players.

I think @MHHS suggested this earlier as well.

It should be a maximum of 4 overseas players not a mandatory 4 overseas players.

The 4 overseas players should be a luxury not a requirement. Is Sikander Raza really better than Ifti chacha or Awais Zia?

Wayne Madsen playing ahead of Misbah and Sohaib Maqsood is a joke as well.

Karachi also needs to make a trade for Haris Sohail.

trust me no one is going to care if local players get a chance over Ben Dunk or Maddison

Not sure if the PCB is spoilt for choices when it comes to Foreign players. They have to pick whatever they can get. However the rule of mandatorily having to play 4 foreigners in a game needs to be done away with, if it is in the best interests of the team for a particular match, then all 11 players should be local, this will keep the foreign players on their toes and not make them take their spots for granted

It would be a gutsy risk taking move but I am sure players who get shunned by the IPL will have a beef with the IPL and will go to the PSL. But the PSL needs to eventually start offering competitive salaries as well.

The Big Bash makes do with only a limited quantity of foreign players - the PSL should look to do the same.

Just because 4 foreign players are allowed in a line-up doesn't mean that the franchise HAS TO play 4/4 players. Especially if it's at the expense of a promising domestic talent who is likely better than those 35yo journeymen now leave alone in the future.

This four foreigner rule is ensuring mediocre overseas players are promoted ahead of local talent who may have greater potential but will never get an opportunity.

What could've been a tremendous showcase for young Pakistani talent has now turned into Journeymen Super League where the same old faces we've seen thousands of times in other leagues pick up an easy paycheck.

Yep, they should make it so 4 is the max number and 3 or 2 the minimum.

Let teams decide, whether they want to play 4 overseas players or not.

Madsen playing over Shoaib Maqsood?

In every team the top 6 is composed of 4 overseas.
That makes only 8 Pakistani batsmen participating to the PSL.

Kamran Akmal, Imam, Umar Amin, Rizwan Hussain, Hussain Talat, Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Shan Masood, Fakhar Zaman.

That’s clearly not enough.

Guys like Madsen and Delport should not be playing. I agree that the amount of overseas players should be reduced to 3 at least.

But that shouldn't mean picking foreign players for the sake of it.

PCB is responsible for this. Big names won't travel to Pakistan and PCB is compromising on quality just to bring PSL in Pakistan.

I am really not happy with the quality of foreign players but I am ready to wait for PSL to go to Pakistan definitely.

This is when PSL will really work, and we will not need foreign so many foreign players.

One of the problems is that some of the overseas players are at the tail-end of their careers and trying to get a last few pay-days.

What that means is that they are way past their sell-by date.

This has been the way since the 1st edition of PSL. Every team has 2-3 decent overseas players and this formula has worked for PSL till now which can be easily seen with the increase in brand value and the price tag of the latest PSL team.

Too much criticism here lol. Its a business at the end of the day for the owners, and this brings in the most revenue.

only thing they need to do is MAKE GOOD PITCHES.

People don't watch T20s to see the batman dancing on the pitch like a fool and if there is anyone who want to watch that, I am sure some of our domestic batters will not disappoint him/her even on the PHATTA type pitches.

I think we are forgetting a few things:

1. Not all foreign players want to come to Pakistan as they are apprehensive about the security situation.
2. There is a lot of international cricket going on in this window, so the best talent is unavailable.
3. PCB wants to show that Pakistan is safe for cricket, for that having international players on the field is important, it does make an impact.

Overall, yea not happy with the talent.

Peshawar playing with 3 today.

They've most likely changed the rule to 3 this year.

Knowing it was going to be held in Pak, hence not expecting many quality foreign signings.

A good change and hope it remains like this.
