Do Selectors actually watch Players before selecting or do they browse PakPassion and just select the next guy who happens to be trending?

Surely anyone watching Fakhar would have noticed the technical issues and the over reliance on bottom hand?

Even the experts were bigging his guy up and he may yet score but surely there are batters in Pakistan Cricket who can bat both sides of the wicket? This guy cannot be best opener in Pakistan, surely not!

Technique isn't as important as some make it out to be. Sure Fakhar is a big hack; But there is a such thing as practicing. If FZ practices his technique, then he could be even better.

You don't need textbook technique to be successful at T20 cricket.

Technique is essentially the foundation of your batting without it you'll collapse.

His technique needs work and this work should've been done before he was selected for the national team.

His stance, grip and the angle at which he brings the bat down all needs work.

You don't need a text book technique to succeed in any format of the game. You simply need to master your personal technique. Smith and Handscomb being primary examples.

I think, they do.

But more than Fakhar's inclusion (he has the best domestic stats for last few years in List A; not bad in T20 & FC either), I am surprised with the imbalanced section for this T20 series. If we keep Babar at 3, PAK has brought 4 openers & Asif Zakir; which is forcing Fakhar to bat at odd No. 5/6. It's not justice to a young player, whose entire career highlights is based on batting in top 3. Besides, he is extremely limited batsman, who'll always struggle after PP.

thats make me wonder the quality of pak domestic .

You don't need textbook technique to be successful at T20 cricket.

True but you need to have the basics right and ability to play 360.

If you don't, you need to have supreme hand eye coordination to be successful against pace.

Fakhar (as it stands now) is too bottom handed and doesn't have Sehwag or Sharjeel kind of coordination and his grip is for bottom handed play.

All put together, is he really the best Pakistan Domestic can throw at International level? International teams and coaches will figure this guy out in no time, block his (very limited) scoring areas and then he will either not score or get out in frustration.

He may well score (if he gets lucky) but overall a very limited player with questionable technique! Hence I am wondering do selectors (or scouts) actually take the time to watch potential National Players?

The only reason Shadab Khan has been selected is due to PSL and the Nation watching him, surely he should have been on the selectors radar way before we saw him on TV.

Same goes for Sharjeel, he announced himself on the TV screens and everybody saw potential.

I am genuinely concerned that selectors have no clue about Domestic Cricket.

Lastly, I agree that the balance of the squad is not right and they are picking the wrong kind of players. Forget batting (which is obvious) why the Heck would you pick Sohail Tanvir over Sohail Khan???

In Pakistan, the selection committee has most of the time been redundant. The media has been our selectors. Apart from the post 2003 WC debacle where Amir Sohail took some ruthless decisions, media has been selecting our players almost all of the time.

Evidence suggests that you may be right but why pick Sohail Tanvir over Sohail Khan? From my limited reading Media in Pakistan has clearly highlighted this as an error.

this guy is good or not, his performances will tell but we are not helping his cause by sending him at number 6, send him as opener and then lets see what he can do.

Batting order in T20 is not very important and he needs to be flexible enough to bat anywhere but will you drop the Oscar nominated Shezzy and bring in Fakhar?

After seeing Fakhar and his technique I highly doubt it.

After seeing shehzad fail for over 5 years now, i will bring anyone instead of him

Fitness issues for Sohail Khan. Although it's not as if Tanvir is mightily fit.

He is a top 3 batsman, expecting him to come in at 6 and slog is stupid and generally the reason so many of our promising batsmen fail so badly. Mohammad Rizwan is another one of those he is a top order batsman anywhere between 1 and 4, we play him as a number 6 slogger. Fawad Alam, top 4 batsman, he used to come in at number 6 or 7.

If you want to try a batsman out play them in their rightful position they are accustomed to. Nobody else in the cricket fraternity does this. They play openers where they should be played apart from the clueless Pakistani think tank.
