Do the UAE wickets pose a problem for our ODI batsmen?

If we go back to the last 6 years, we have lost almost all our ODI series in UAE against the likes of Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, England and honestly speaking this is just frankly riddiculous given that these are our preferred conditions and completely alien to these teams.

The problem as far as i see it is that our batsmen love pace and like the ball to come on to the bat. The UAE wickets tend to be a lot slower and you can only start playing consistent aggressive shots once you truly get your eye in.

I think our batsmen tend to play with a lot more flair, aggression outside UAE.

But seriously speaking, in the last 6 years why have our batsmen still not understood the right method or approach to batting in the UAE in ODI's?

And why are they still adopting the same approach which they use in Test matches to ODI's i.e. play the pacers out and just go after the spinners?

I think so because in that time, we have won series in South Africa, India, West Indies and yet we have lost almost every ODI series in UAE. I think UAE is great for our test team but for ODIs, we should start looking for a new home.

I've said this for some time - in UAE with the sluggish nature of the wickets its harder to time your shots as the ball doesn't come easily onto the bat so is not as easy to accelerate. In tests on the other hand its ideal for our attritional, wear the opposition down style of cricket where we can grind out results. Today there was more pace in the wicket and the ball sat up nicely if the bowler pitched it a bit short hence the runfest.

Away from home our ODI record has been OK with wins in India, New Zealand, West Indies (twice) and South Africa in the last five years.

However that being said, before the move to the UAE our ODI record in Pakistan wasn't great either with defeats to India (twice), South Africa and Sri Lanka before the Lahore attacks. Our approach in ODIs has been poor for a long time.

So in 6 years, shouldn't our ODI players have learn't and understood how to bat in ODI's in UAE by now? It is their home now, no excuse really.

Why don't batsmen from the opposition struggle in UAE then?
Pakistan has had only 1 centurion(Hafeez) in this series compared to 3 of England(Hales, Roy, Buttler)

Since 2009

ODI

Outside UAE/Pakistan - Won 42, Lost 38
In UAE/Pakistan - Won 18, Lost 30

T20

Outside UAE/Pakistan - Won 18, Lost 12
In UAE/Pakistan - Won 10, Lost 11

Definitely a pattern there.

Good post. I agree.

Slowly we must get ourselves out of UAE. Or miraculously adjust.

Yet another series lost.

I repeat we have lost to NZ twice in UAE

Lost to South Africa twice in UAE

Lost to Australia twice in UAE

We have lost to England twice in the UAE

These are all results in the last 5-6 years in our own preferred conditions. What is the problem exactly?

Do UAE wickets just not suit our batsmen at all?

Good thread, i agree our win loss ratio is good recently in odis ouside home. I wonder what is happening

Replace UAE with any country in the world where cricket is played.

I disagree, if it was such a graveyard these Aussie batsmen would be reeling.

It seems a pretty standardized pitch since batsmen like Sohail and Rizwan could score big runs.

Then we realized why they were able to. With the cakewalk the Aussies had.

Our batsmen showed they are substandard, its not the pitch its our players

I don't think you have understood what I wrote at all.

The topic is about the pitches there.

I assume you were talking about the pitches in the UAE.

The bigger problem however is not the pitch but the players playing on the pitch.

The pitch is no excuse for the poor performances of our team.

I think Pakistani players find the grounds too big in the UAE, very often i see even well set batsmen get out going for the big shot.
