What's new

Do we not possess the mentality to win Tests in SENA?

This test match was there for the taking but many times you felt these players were not believing they can win and threw away their wickets casually . It was a great opportunity to break our SENA duck since 2018 but it looks unlikely now as the target is not big enough for them to chase.

But why dont you guys understand alot these guys are playing for first time its not easy to just adopt same south africa team in pak vs noman and sajid in spinning track will absolutely get smashed here atleast pak are competing well within the game.

R Jinx thread? lol This is almost a 50/50 game now.
Pakistan needs two wickets in first hour to win the test . If South Africa add another 50 rums even cost of just one wickets they will win the match. 65-35 to Africa .
:kp

This South African bowling attack is the weakest I have ever seen, with the absence of many bowlers. It would be a shame if Pakistan can't win or draw this series. Even if they lose the first test, they can still win the second test to draw the series.

It's not 50/50, it's more like 80/20.

If we had a total above 200, that would be 60-40 in our favor.

The issue here is that these are fast scoring grounds, 5 overs can add 40 runs & match is pretty much over
Pressure of chasing on a surface with indentations is not going to be easy. They have filled the top order spots with LOI batsmen. It is entirely down to Markram and Bavuma now.

More than mentality we lack the personnel, what is role of Salman Agha in SENA, can't bat not helpful with bowl , surely play an extra batsman or go with a bowler. Bits and pieces should be discouraged.

Imam,OR Saim
Saim Shan
Shan Babar
Babar KG
KG Saud
Saud Rizwan
Rizwan Jamal
Jamal Naseem
Naseem Khurram
Khurram Abass
Abass Hamza

Certainly more depth in batting or bowling, Shan is a poor captain he has no strategy no ideology

Worst part is if South Africa wins this they are threw to lords final and will play next game with no pressure and we know how great South Africa are when they have no pressure

Yes I absolutely agree.

The lore gets to us. The players think it's already enough if they put in a decent performance and never really believe they can win. They think it's SA (Aus/Eng etc) and feel they have no right to compete. Too much importance given to the reputation of the place.

We get into really decent positions and then self subbotage. Same happened in Australia too. We could've easily won a test there but didn't and we didn't seem to mind. The players weren't disappointed because they thought even that's enough.

This is a huge factor in SENA for us.

threw away so many wickets, was a 250 run lead there for the taking. this is what happens when your batsmen dont play enough red ball cricket and dont have the mentality or competency to build an innings.

Completely agree with both of you. It's as if they don't dare to go for a win

I think yes, we lack that self belief. Although, Pakistan could still pull this up. But to be realistic, I don't expect any wonders from them.

Pakistan, at this stage, seems to lack the killer instinct. Perhaps what they truly need is a strong, astute leader capable of seizing key moments to close out games. Prior to that ill-timed shot from Babar, Pakistan was in a solid position to secure a 200+ lead, which could have put them firmly in control of the match.
