Does Misbah have the influence to get his best quicks to play in AUS/NZ/ENG?

Pakistan's World Test Championship draw is a matter of fact.

They play Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and South Africa at "home", and risk dropping points to the first two who have superior pace attacks and batsmen against spin. (Let's face it: Pakistan lost their last UAE series against not just Sri Lanka but even New Zealand!)

They also play away to Australia, New Zealand and England. Three series where Pakistan's fortunes depend upon their pace attack.

The most skilful pace bowler, Mohammad Amir, claims to have retired from Test cricket.

So does the fastest bowler, Wahab Riaz.

And so Pakistan has a sudden and urgent problem. The team flies to Australia in nine weeks' time.

Australia. Where inexperienced Asian bowlers invariably bowl too short and do badly. Even Waqar Younis did on his first tour there in 1989-90.

As a minimum you need 3 specialist quicks and a fast-medium all-rounder in Australia. In the starting eleven. Plus 2 more quicks in the squad.

And none of them can be as short as Hasan Ali.

Misbah is now all-powerful, but Waseem Khan has made clear that he will also be held more accountable for results than any of his predecessors.

So what is going to happen?

Shaheen Shah Afridi clearly is the key bowler.

But Mohammad Abbas failed in identical conditions in South Africa. Hasan Ali is far too short for Brisbane in particular.

It seems as if already Misbah needs to call in a favour, and ask Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz to make themselves available for those 3 tours outside Asia.

Otherwise it's looking very possible that Pakistan might finish the World Test Championship with fewer than 100 points out of a possible 720, in rock bottom position.

Misbah will be the best coach in Pakistan cricket history. He will make us win multiple ICC trophy's. So him having influence is out of the question.

Wahab is done in test cricket. He hasn't performed in his last few tests, including Aus in Aus, so what makes you think he will perform now. He has lost his pace and is no longer the quickest bowler in Pakistan. There are 3-4 faster bowlers than him now.

Shaheen Shah should play less in the UAE and play Hasan in the UAE where he has actually done well. In Australia Shaheen will be the main bowler due to his height and decent pace. Lets hope Naseem, Hasnain or even Haris Rauf do well in QeA and get picked for AUs series

I agree with.post above, SSA, Abbas can be 2 of the pacers. 1-2 performing youngsters from QEA can be selected. Also, Abbas was half fit and coming back from injury for the SA tests

Also, other day MMHS made a good point about how you don't need to focus on dominating away tours to get into the final. You need to maximize home wins and maybe sneak in an away win or draw here and there.

We can just whitewash a Herath -less SL, weak BD and SA teams in UAE which I think Misbah will be able to do once he builds a team he likes. That would be a solid 360 points right there

Coming to away tours, if we can get lucky and snatch a draw in Aus, and maybe draw vs NZ and ENG 1-1, that will be 150 points. 510 pts total.

Unlikely but it's our best shot at getting the finals.

Misbah has done decent in England and NZ. So I think we can get draws at least there

Amir sucks in Tests anyway. He may have been told he was to be dropped from the Test team and decided to retire out of anger.
He is too slow to get wickets in Aussie, Pakistan need a speedstar, but is there anyone who bowls 150kph who can play Tests?

Wahab and Amir never did anything of note in Aus, NZ, SA even when they played in those conditions. Yes in Eng Amir did well but almost every Pakistani pacer generally does well to extent there as we saw Abbas being pretty good this time around and just to shed more light even Faheem Ashraf was taking wickets in UK. Nothing to take away form Amir or Wahab but other then on few specific occasions in Eng they havent done anything great kn SENA.

I wont be surprised if Shaheen and co perform well in Eng as too. Historical problem has beeb bowling in Aus, SA where Misbah would need some imaginative selections which can utilize those conditions better than we have done in decades.

What I'm curious is about is how we perform in NZ away. It's 1.5 years away so i do feel like we have to time to build a team that can at least get a 1-1 draw there. Misbah did good in NZ in 2011, winning 1-0 but in 2016 we lost 2-0, though Azhar Ali was captain for the second game

Rahat ali and Mir hamza will be selected. Rahat ali will be the third pacer and faheem ashraf will be the fourth pacer if they are going with one. Faherm ashraf needs to play like watson or flintoff to help pak do wonders in away series lol.

Aussie will already be shaking in their boots for fear of The Rahat. :ssmith:dw:yk

Amir and Wahab are past it. Amir was bowling around mid 120s kph in SA and Wahab could not hit 150 kph even once and that too in ODIs in World cup.

Husnain must play in Australia, maybe even Arshad Iqbal. We have nothing to lose and won't get anything out of TTFs. But Misbah obviously will play Rahat and even Yasir:facepalm:. So we are bound to lose 2-0 vs Australia with Misbah at the helm.

Ideally we should take following fast bowlers to Aus. (First class performance of newbies must also be considered).

Abbas
Shaheen
Hasnain
Faheem
Hassan
Arshad

PAK will get much more than 100 points - I can bet on that. But, what I can't prove for which still you can keep posting your fantasy is that - PAK UNDER MISBAH WILL GET MORE POINTS IN ICC TC, THAT WHAT THEY COULD HAVE EARNED UNDER ARTHUR.

I expect them to win 3 Series in UAE, so at least 270 points (1-0, every time), could be as high as 360; and they might earn some points through draw, wash-out or even surprising win in UK, NZ, AUS - that's another 30 to 90 points. So, net, net I expect PAK to post over 300 points (could be even around 400); which should keep them probably at around 5th in Table.

Yep, totally agreed. Realistically we will get around 350-400 points, probably around 4th place or so.

But we will really have make the most of home series if we want to sneak into the finals somehow.
If Pakistan somehow made it in the final, Lords is a good ground for Pakistan to play.
