Does Sarfaraz Ahmed lack judgement or authority?

I am referring to the amount of times I've seen him backing poor appeals by the bowlers which ultimately lead to losing a review. Yesterday's rubbish lbw appeal by Nawaz in the opening over which apart from hitting the bat, was also missing leg stump, being a typical example.

I can accept that the Pakistan bowlers aren't the brightest bunch and will make some over-optimistic appeals, but I feel that Sarfraz as the captain has to exercise more authority and judgement to rein in his bowlers and protect the team interests. Is he up to it, or do people think it is not that important?

So you are expecting the keeper to know if the batsman hit the ball with the bat or not in an LBW appeal? Have you ever played even one cricket match? He has turned down appeals from bowlers plenty of times. We all error in judgement sometimes.


But another reason to bash Sarfaraz Ahmed. We all would be so much happier if someone like Azhar Ali was still captain.

That was my point. You could tell he didn't think it was a good appeal, but because Nawaz pressured him, he capitulated and allowed the appeal which of course failed. My view is that because many of the Pakistani younger bowlers tend to appeal for everything, the captain really needs to show some judgement and authority to decide which ones to back and which ones to deny. He gets it wrong too often in my view, he needs to show more leadership.

Remember the CT, no one but Shadab was pushing for the review on Yuvi, in that case Sarfraz was vindicated in trusting the kid in his side

I don't have anything against Sarfraz, I don't know why people think this is anything personal or what it has to do with Pakistan winning. It's quite simply I think a captain has to regulate the stupidity of our bowlers so we don't throw away reviews unnecessarily.

The match was basically a formality when the review was taken, don't read too much into it

The result wasn't the issue, my concern is with the problem we have in consistently wasting reviews. It's a problem with the bowlers, and it needs a captain with good judgement to rein it in. It might not have cost us in this game, but might well be expensive in future matches.

Sarfraz fans are like AJ fans, not as sensitive but still not willing to welcome any criticism. They might suspect you have an agenda against Karachi as well even though you're a Brit

Sarfraz is fine when it comes to taking reviews .. most fans have no problem with him there

A post like this should be backed up with stats, how many reviews have Pakistan wasted compared to the other teams? I am sure i read some point last year Kohli had the worst conversion rate for reviews overturned.

Wicket keeper can judge the line of the ball better but he cannot surely know that whether bat is involved or not as he is standing behind. As a captain, you have to rely on your bowler when he is pleading like that and Nawaz is among his buddies these days so chalta hai.

Firstly, when you're standing up close to the stumps when a spinner is on you got to be either deaf or dumb not to be able to differentiate between the sound of a ball colliding with pad, bat or a bit of both.

Secondly, Sarfraz himself pointed out to Nawaz that he heard a big noise e.g the sound of a ball hitting the bat; even at the club level this is not something which takes decades to comprehend.

It's not just about relying on your bowlers / buddies at all cost but getting them to use their head a bit in the heat of the moment.

Sarfraz haters are OTT with critiscm whilst his fans are OTT for his defence. He has made mistakes but for the most part he has done a good job.

Neither. He is the same guy who believed in Shadab's judgment in CT final which got him the yuvraj wicket.

He must have believed in his bowler (which is a good thing) sometimes it works and sometimes it may not. Criticism in everything is over the top. He is doing a fine job, appreciate and enjoy the moment.
