Does Shadab Khan have the best googly?

I have seen the googly turn that much. I have seen Afridi bowl some sliders, and slight turn by Yasir Shah, but damn what is Shadab bowling? Massive turn in his googly.

Do you think his googly is the best in cricket?

Very interesting times ahead. Thanks to PSL we can see such talents and them bowling to the likes of Morgan, KP, other world class players and in pressure situations will help them a lot. It's great to see quite a lot of spinning talents. Shame we can't say the same about the batsmen but been quality bowling in the PSL. That's why yes struggle to get big scores. Today is easily a 180+ pitch but been quality bowling the IU boys.
Last game 400 runs were scored on same pitch.
 
He uses the googly very well, hope he doesn't overdo it like Kaneria did. His control, variations of pace and bowling intelligence has impressed.

He's troubled internationally capped batsmen on pitches that haven't offered as much turn as last year's PSL where even ordinary spinners like Nawaz were looking like world beaters.
 
No, but it's up there. Right after Usama among Pak. players. Tahir and Rashid are the best in the world atm.
 
He should be in the squad, a good leg spinner is a genuine match winner acrossnformats.
 
Shadab becomes doubly important once you realize that he is quite a competent batsman as well
 
Usama has a really good one is well.

Yasir should watch his back because a lot of leggies are coming through.

Shahzaib Ahmed is another one, who hasn't been selected in this edition.

Pak is stacked with quality spinners or those with huge potential.

Just need some young pacers and young hard hitting batsmen.
 
Shadab's varieties looked the most skillful to me - the most deceiving as well.

Excellent googly, looks already better than Yasir Shah tbh. But knowing PCB, they'll waste him, and instead keep playing Yasir till he reaches at least 40 age.
 
Yasir should be moved on in a couple of years to be honest. He will be 31 this year, overweight, not good enough for Limited Overs because of the lack of variations and a failure on pitches that doesn't turn and bounce to his preference. Also, has no answer when batsmen start attacking.

He is replaceable if we make the effort. Everyone thought we would be doomed without Ajmal but then Yasir popped up. There is always a room for leg-spinners in all formats, they are wicket-takers and thus potential match-winners, and we should be looking for a leg-spinner who can play multiple formats for 5-6 years.

Yasir with an 'official' age of 31 with weight issues and lack of variations doesn't fit the bill.

Very good prospect.

He's got all the tools but does he have the IQ? The next few seasons should tell but could be a straight replacement for Yasir in tests.

Plus, could build his role as an ODI leggie which is a hole PAK need to fill.
 
He looked composed, which is fantastic considering his age and the quality of batsmen he was bowling to.

I haven't seen much of his batting but from what I have read around here, he is better than Nawaz.

Exciting young player.
 
Test specialists eventually stagnate to be honest. We don't play enough Tests and those who only play that format don't really develop their game. Always better to have dynamic and versatile players who can play multiple formats, ideally all three.

We need to identify a core of 5-6 players who play across all formats. Most of the successful teams have such a core, e.g. Australia - Smith, Warner, Starc, Hazlewood, Khawaja, India - Kohli, Ashwin, Rahul, Shami, Jadeja, England - Root, Stokes, Bairstow, Buttler, South Africa - QdK, Rabada, du Plessis, Amla, de Villiers (although the latter two not for long). At the moment, we are lacking such players. Apart from Sarfraz, Babar and Amir (who has been woeful in Tests since his comeback), we lack such players.

31 is pretty young for spinners, official or unofficial is a question mark though
 
At one point PAK played 3 off spinners in playing ODI XI - MoHa, Ajmal, Malik with Afridi being another spinner, without much turn. It's quite feasible that now both the young leggis play together even in ODI. Mir should have been tested in those 6 ODIs against Zimboks in 2015, but probably he was not fit then. Also, had Malik been Captain instead of Azhar, I am sure few young players would have debuted in 2015.

The spin stock & spin bowling all-rounder stock is quite good actually - 2 Leggis, Hasan, Nawaz, Imad, Gohar. Also, Raja Hasan should make a come back & he was quite decent with bat. Only gap is an off-spinner & off-spin all-rounder, which also I think mostly artificial crisis created to keep MoHa safe & keep doors open for Ajmal. Aga Salman is a decent prospect to replace Mian/MoHa while Babar can provide few overs of offie.

Mir needs to improve his batting, while both Shadab & Mir needs more control on their leggi - Googly can be lethal if he has an accurate big turning leggi as stock ball. Wrong one (it can be Googly, Doosra, Armer, Slider, flipper, Carom ball) works only when the bowler has a very good conventional stock ball to pin down batsmen. In his later stages Saqline started to over use his Doosra and he lost his novelty. 1, at best 2 accurate Googly per over can be lethal, if the leggi can bowl other balls tight with 6-3 field.

Of the 2, Shadab is a better package for LO cricket, but Mir can be the better Leggi with his height & big turner. I'll take both to WI - might play both in same ODI as well - even Mir actually can offer more with bat than MoHa now.
 
Do not underestimate Usama with the bat. He was once played at no. 3 by his first class team. This means the talent is there with the bat too .

Shadab has 150+ in a first class match against Zim. He should be drafted into the test team as soon as possible. He will be good for all formats. His batting technique is better than many of our top order batsman. If it was up to me I would have played him at 4 in ODIs.
 
The way he bowled yesterday was amazing to see.

Looks a ready prospect. But Mickey Arthur and Inzi do not want to inject any new players! They're all limited to press conference verbal hot air.
 
I think good players of spin will spot the googly easily there is an early and easily perceptible change in the grip and release. Guys who are watching the ball out of his hand will play it easily. To be honest I have not seen Usama bowl a googly yet this tournament. He looked good in the last match but it was a horrible pitch. So most average spinners would look awesome.
 
Reminded me of Tahir's googlies. Guy has a lot of potential to go far inshaAllah.
 
I don't care if he has the best googly or not, if he can rip the leg breaks the way he was last night he would be a superstar, need to work a lot more on his stock ball, variations can come later, he has good control which is good to see. A gentle googly will work for now. He has to work a bit on his follow through and learn to use the crease a bit more, but that will come from experience, what stood out was his energy in the field.
 
To be honest pitches that make Nawaz look like Warne; you have to wonder.

Yeah unfortunately hasnt got a chance to display his batting potential. Should be given a promotion in the order
 
I am watching matches just to see Asgar and Shadab. Shadab needs to be in the national squad for the Windies.

Do you think better batsmen will do a more adequate job of picking him?

Does he have the tools, i.e sharp leg spinner, top spinner, googly, to counter the intelligence that teams will gain on him over time?

He has enough batting potential. Even better than specialist batters, Secondly he has leg spin variations not some mystery stuff.
 
His success in the long term will be based on a fiercely spun leg break. If he can land it on a decent length, he will be successful. The googly will help but over reliance leads to the overall bowling becoming ineffective in the longer forms of the game.
 
Imran Tahir also has an awesome googly that turns more than his leg spinner.

Kuldeep Yadav also has wicked googly. Turns a lot.
 
his googly is indeed hard to pick and it's very good, but his leg spinners are underrated, he can become a complete leggie IMO

Why?? - Imran Tahir is world no 1 ODI bowler, also top 5 in T20, he is also a regular leg spinner, with control. Shadab has good control (does not bowl too many loose aka hit me deliveries), today when seniors pressed him, in last two overs he did bowl very good leg spin and sliders, that fetch him three more wickets. Point is when you can bowl such a good googlie (which is one of the most difficult ball to bowl with control) others are easy, he can develop really well...

Also there is a difference between mystery off spinners and leggy, those off spinners (Ajmal, Narine, Ashwin, Mandis etc) all live off the lighter chucking rules, as they tighten up, they started vanishing as well...Leg spinner has always been hard work, but generally long life and he is only 18, too good of a control for an 18 years old...Challenge would be for him to motivate himself to continue to develop, lets hope he does that...No matter how good you are in any field, continue to learn and develop is must!!

That's why I want him to be a bowling all-rounder. Batting no higher than 8. Leggies are hard to come by and he's a very talented one. Batsman are aplenty. We needed a specialist spinner in LOIs and Shadab is the man.

bit harsh calling yasir overweight. he may look chubby but he moves effortlessly and is a great fielder. dont think the double chin is impacting his fielding

His batting is also very good, he has lot of potential there as well, I have seen him hitting six over cover(not many top 5 can do that), he rotate strike well and strike the ball like a batsman rather than tail under, Hassan, Wahab still give you a feel of a tail under, but not this guy. He should come after Sarfraz... He has a potential to be a regular batsman rather than slogger (something we did with UA and mess him up), he looks more organized batsman...I am afraid we are looking to make him like Afridi like power hitter, his batting is more than that...

His batting might be good, but if he focuses on it too much, then bowling will go down. The team needs his bowling.
 
Forget the googly . He is turning his legspinner miles and that too at pace .

Too bad we havent seen the best of him with the bat yet.

he has insane potential as I sad in an another thread he is a slider/top spnner away from being a world beater.
