Considering the World Cup 2019 will be played on pitches that will be completely different than the dead pitches of UAE where there was no support for the fast bowlers and spinners were made look like legends, should Pakistan really worry about their performance in this tournament in the bigger scheme of things?

If you look at Pakistan’s team make up their strength in bowling comes from their seamers who have historically done well in England and pair with that Shadab or Hafeez against SENA teams who do not play spin well, can Pakistan be the surprise package of the world up?

UAE has been our home for last decade. Asia cup was good reality check for us and it will help us immensely because now we have lower expectations from our team which means there will be lower pressure on the players.

Yes, it’s a problem that the team wasn’t able to do well on their home grounds however it should not dictate our future planning and we should continue working on skills that will work for us in England.

Yes it did matter to me. If it mattered before then tournament then it does so afterwards as well. I won't undermine the tournament Just coz Pak performed so badly. India being crowned champions of Asia would make every Pak fan cringe. Not finishing even runners up is further cause for concern for all Pak fans. Seeing our abysmal batting again the only surprise would be for Pak to qualify for the second stage of next years World Cup. We can not keep depending on our bowlers to bail us out time and time again.

Not really. It is a minor tournament that serves as a showcase for the minnows more than anything else. No one is going to remember this Asia Cup just like no one remembers any of the prior Asia Cups.

Yes it does for Pakistan. It did burst a few myths which can only be good for the team. For India though it did not do much as we knew what to expect and the tournament played out to the script. For Afghanistan and Bangladesh though this was a validation that they are up with the big boys in ODI format. For HK, it gave hope that they can compete with the big boys. So yes the Asia cup mattered a lot for all the teams. I kind of expect Pakistan fans to ignore and say Asia cup did not matter much but again I can show threads ahead of the tournament where they claimed it was a premium tournament and India by resting Kohli are making a mockery of it. I will take any comments from such fans with a pinch of salt.

It does not matter to the Indian fans as we haven't gained anything from the tournament. The things we saw about the Indian team in the Asia Cup was what we already know about the team.

1. We are a top heavy batting side
2. Middle order is non existent
3. We have a good bowling attack
4. We can field well
5. MS Dhoni needs to go

So for India this tournament is just the validation of our problems. For Pakistan it is a tournament which opened up a host of problems, no wonder their fans are calling Asia cup as irrelevant.

Its irrelevant in the long run but a multi-national tournaments like these are much more competitive.

I think if cricket needs to survive, multinational tournaments are the way. Bilateral series generally lose their flavor easily. But fighting for qualification and playing different teams everyday - thats how it should be.

The issue with this is that neutral games have poor audiences in general.

If the question is, 'is the Asia Cup preparation for the World Cup'? the answer is an unequivocal no. The Asia Cup is still far removed from the World Cup and the world of cricket evolves with every season. There is a strong likelihood that the opening lineup of India may change by the time the world cup rolls around, even though both the openers are in the forms of their lives.

However, if the question is 'will this provide a burst of momentum towards the World Cup'? the answer again is, no, though not quite that certain. maybe this will begin the ball rolling on a resurgence in confidence in the team that outside of kohli, it has options. a bit like the brief period in the 90s when india was soul searching while tendulkar was out with a tennis elbow.

But if the question is 'will Indian fans be able to laugh at Pakistan's expense', then a mild yes. we beat pakistan all too often now to consider this a significant achievement.
