I personally like this. It will be an interesting experience to see Billionaire Businessmen run the govt for a change. Why not run Govt like a private business for a change, there is no harm in trying a new and different model, this is what the American people voted for, change and some thing new.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday formally announced Rick Perry, a former Texas governor and Trump's one-time presidential rival, as his choice to lead the U.S. Department of Energy.

I am going to give Trump a chance. Our politicians who are supposed to be "experts" in running things have gotten us to almost $20 Trillion in debt. How much worse can the business people get. Hoping for a complete change in the way things are done.
I see what you're saying but there's a big conflict of interest issue here.
Vox's Brad Plumer reported that between 2011 and 2013, Exxon Mobil signed a series of deals with the Russian state-owned oil giant Rosneft to explore the Black Sea, develop shale resources in western Siberia, and drill for oil in the Arctic, one of the biggest untapped fossil fuel resources left in the world.
After Obama announced sanctions on Russia and their oil industry in 2014, Exxon was forced to stop work. Tillerson himself owns $218 million in Exxon stock and a pension reportedly worth $70 million - so how can he impartial on the issue of sanctions ?!
Not to mention appointing a Big Oil exec as Secretary of State is a huge slap in the face of any attempts to do anything substantial on one of the biggest issues that faces the planet which is climate change.
There absolutely is conflict here. But the other side is companies contributing to politicians and owning them that way. So they are forced to do what the corporations want anyway. A good example would be Wall st. and Clinton, where she was "authorized" to say what she wanted to get elected, but do what Wall St. wanted if she did get elected.
But I still want to give these people a chance and see what they do before jumping on them.

The Muslim college student who claimed she was harassed on the subway by three men who shouted “Donald Trump,” called her a terrorist and tried to rip her hijab off her head has admitted to detectives that she concocted the entire story, the Daily News has learned.
Yasmin Seweid, 18, has been charged with filing a false report, a police source said.
Seweid had numerous opportunities to admit the incident never happened but again and again stood by her story, the source said.
Drunk men screaming 'Trump' attack Muslim straphanger, cops say
On Wednesday, after again being confronted with questions from detectives increasingly suspicious of her story she recanted and said she made it all up, citing family problems.
The police source said criminally charging her was appropriate.
“This isn’t something we normally like to do but she had numerous opportunities to admit nothing happened and she kept sticking by her story,” the source said.
“We dedicated a lot of resources to this — and don’t get me wrong, this is what we do — but we had guys going back and forth, looking for video and witnesses. And we couldn’t find anything.
“Nothing happened — and there was no victim.”
It wasn’t immediately clear what Seweid hoped to gain by lying to police.
The Baruch College student claimed that on her way home to Long Island the night of Dec. 1 she encountered three drunken men on an uptown No. 6 train.
She said straphangers stood by and did nothing while the trio mocked her and tried to tear the religious garb from her head.
“It made me really sad after when I thought about it,” she said. “People were looking at me and looking at what was happening and no one said a thing. They just looked away.”
She provided police a description of the suspects, one of whom police believed they saw on video following her when she got off the subway at Grand Central Station to look for police. At the same time, there were inconsistencies in her story.
For awhile, police believed those to be nothing more than typical of someone traumatized, but detectives could not find witnesses or any significant video.
Then, last week, she left home and was reported missing on Thursday — only to turn up safe and sound Friday.
That, sources said, increased the suspicions surrounding her tale.

Obama just made it harder for Trump to create a Muslim registry
The Department of Homeland Security will take apart the vestiges of a controversial program that was used to register and track visitors from Muslim-majority countries, a move which will make it more difficult for Donald Trump to instate a registry system for Muslims once he takes office next month.
The change, which comes just four weeks before the end of President Obama’s last term, removes the skeleton of a program that hasn’t been in use since 2011. When it was active, the “special registration” program—the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System, or NSEERS—had two parts, and applied only to people from 25 countries named by DHS. Twenty-four of them were Muslim-majority countries.
One half of NSEERS was a domestic “call-in” registration program that required men ages 16 and up living in the U.S. to report regularly to immigration officials. The other half was an entry and exit tracking system, which limited the airports, seaports, and land borders that registrants could use to travel, and required them to register before leaving and after arriving.
NSEERS began in September 2002. The domestic call-in program was ended in December 2003, and the remaining entry and exit program was suspended in 2011, when DHS removed all 25 countries from the list of required participants. At the time, civil-rights groups asked the Obama administration to remove the regulations entirely, to prevent the program from being resurrected, and had intensified their calls recently, after Trump suggested using “watchlists” or “registries” to surveil Muslims in the U.S.
The complete dismantling of NSEERS doesn’t prevent Trump from creating a new program to track people from Muslim-majority countries. But nor is it only a symbolic rejection of similar programs from the outgoing president. Leaving the program in place would have given Trump a turnkey registry in waiting.
“DHS ceased use of NSEERS more than five years ago, after it was determined the program was redundant, inefficient and provided no increase in security,” a spokesperson for the agency said Thursday. “The intervening years have shown that NSEERS is not only obsolete, but that its use would divert limited personnel and resources from more effective measures.”
A 2012 report from the DHS inspector general found that the program used buggy technology, relied on faulty databases, and cost the government $10 million per year to run. The inspector general recommended dismantling the program entirely, but the agency declined to follow that recommendation at the time.
On Friday, when the government’s official notice will be printed in the Federal Register, the regulations behind the special-registration program will no longer exist.

Obama has very much been an extension of the status quo, but the general perception about him is softened due to his rhetoric.
Obama is a PR machine. He knows the words to use to charm the public and make them side with him. He was even worse than Bush when it came to targeting unarmed, innocent civilians in foreign nations. Yet Bush got a much worse reputation for doing that. Obama knows his way around words, this is why the public is so easily fooled by him.

The president-elect wrote on Monday on Twitter that the U.N. has “such great potential,” but it has become “just a club for people to get together, talk and have a good time. So sad!”
On Friday, Trump warned, “As to the U.N., things will be different after Jan. 20th,” referring to the day he takes office.
The decision by the Obama administration to abstain from Friday’s U.N. vote brushed aside Mr. Trump’s demands that the U.S. exercise its veto and provided a climax to years of icy relations with Israel’s leadership.
Meanwhile, the billionaire businessman took to Twitter on Monday evening to say he believes his election as president has benefited the economy.
“The world was gloomy before I won there was no hope,” he said in a verified post on his Twitter account. “Now, the market is up nearly 10 percent and Christmas spending is over a trillion dollars.”
Markets are up since Mr. Trump won the general election, although not quite by that much. The Standard & Poor’s 500 is up about 6 per cent since Election Day, while the Dow has risen more than 8 per cent.
As for holiday spending, auditing and accounting firm Deloitte projected in September that total 2016 holiday sales were expected to exceed $1 trillion, representing a 3.6 percent to 4.0 percent increase in holiday sales from November through January.
Mr. Trump also used social media to complain anew about criticism of the Donald J. Trump Foundation. In one post, he said, “The DJT Foundation, unlike most foundations, never paid fees, rent, salaries or any expenses. 100 % of the money goes to wonderful charities.”
Mr. Trump had said on Saturday that he wanted to dissolve his charitable foundation amid efforts to eliminate any conflicts of interest before he takes office next month.
The Democratic National Committee criticized him for what it called “a wilted fig leaf to cover up his remaining conflicts of interest and his pitiful record of charitable giving.”
A 2015 tax return posted on the nonprofit monitoring website GuideStar shows the Donald J. Trump Foundation acknowledged that it used money or assets in violation of IRS regulations not only during 2015, but in prior years. Those regulations prohibit self—dealing by the charity. That’s broadly defined as using its money or assets to benefit Trump, his family, his companies or substantial contributors to the foundation.
The tax filing doesn’t provide details on the violations. Whether Mr. Trump benefited from the foundation’s spending has been the subject of an investigation by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
On the Middle East, Mr. Trump told The Associated Press last December that he wanted to be “very neutral” on Israel—Palestinian issues. But his tone became decidedly more pro-Israel as the presidential campaign progressed. He has spoken disparagingly of Palestinians, saying they have been “taken over” by or are condoning militant groups.
Mr. Trump’s tweet on Monday about the U.N. ignores much of the work that goes on in the 193-member global organisation.
This year the U.N. Security Council has approved over 70 legally binding resolutions, including new sanctions on North Korea and measures tackling conflicts and authorising the U.N.’s far-flung peacekeeping operations around the world. The General Assembly has also approved dozens of resolutions on issues, like the role of diamonds in fueling conflicts; condemned human rights abuses in Iran and North Korea; and authorized an investigation of alleged war crimes in Syria.

While the organisation does engage in large-scale humanitarian and peacekeeping efforts, its massive bureaucracy has long been a source of controversy. there is a difference between useless and inefficent/uneffective
The UN has done a lot but its achievements are something that are shown over a period of time. Its hampered by its funders and the veto power, but its ability to just get everyone in the room is in of itsless that is something amazing.
I used to hold the views of all of you guys, till I did some work at the UN. Yes the UN General Assembly and New York offices in general can be nauseting, but the ground work they do in countries in need is something that needs to be more appreciated.
This is not directed at anyone here but in general I think now more then ever we need to stop dealing in absolutes

The actress never mentioned Mr Trump by name, but it was clear who her target was in pointedly saying a performance from the past year that stunned her came from the campaign trail.
She noted an incident where "the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country" imitated a reporter with a disability from The New York Times.

Streep said that "when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose".
Mr Trump responded in a series of early-morning tweets, calling Streep "one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood" and "a Hillary flunky".
He also defended himself against claims that he was mocking Times reporter Serge Kovaleski.
At the White House, press secretary Josh Earnest said that Streep had clearly delivered "a thoughtful, carefully considered message" that reflected her deeply held beliefs.
"It seemed to me to be a fairly straightforward exercise of her First Amendment rights, as this is the United States," Mr Earnest said.
Streep noted "Hollywood" was a reviled place, but she said it was really a community filled with people from other places united in the mission to show different people and make audiences feel what they feel.
"Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if we kick them all out, you'll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts," she said.
Streep put in a plug for vigorous journalism, urging that contributions be made to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
While Streep won the annual Cecil B DeMille Award and boasts 48 Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, her career is still current.
She was nominated this year for her portrayal of a bad opera singer in Florence Foster Jenkins.

Donald Trump Is Sworn In as President, Capping His Swift Ascent
WASHINGTON — Donald John Trump was inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States on Friday, ushering in a new and more unpredictable era in which he vowed to shatter the established order and restore American greatness.
From the West Front of the Capitol, overlooking a crowd of hundreds of thousands as rain began to fall, Mr. Trump presented a dark vision of a nation afflicted by division and dislocation, exploited and forgotten by a group of Washington elites and diminished around the world. His arrival, he promised, would finally turn it around.
“This American carnage stops right here and stops right now,” he declared in a forceful 16-minute Inaugural Address.
“The time for empty talk is over,” he added later. “Now arrives the hour for action. Do not allow anyone to tell you it cannot be done.”
He said the inauguration represented not just the peaceful transfer of power from one party to another. “We are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you the people,” he said.

“For too long,” he added, “a small group in our nation’s capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered, but the jobs left and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs.”
He vowed to reverse that trend and make America first. “The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.”
Mr. Trump, wearing a dark suit with red tie and accompanied by his wife, Melania, in a powder-blue suit, intends to waste little time after taking the 35-word oath that was administered by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. to start unraveling the policies of his departing predecessor, President Obama. Within hours of taking office, the new president could begin signing executive orders freezing regulations put in place in the last weeks of Mr. Obama’s tenure and reversing policies on health care, immigration and other areas.
His son Donald Trump Jr. said the new president was coming to grips with the gravity of his new position, even if it did not necessarily seem so in public. “He’s been humbled by the whole process,” he said on MSNBC. “And you know, whether he shows that outwardly or not is, you know, is one thing.”
Through a long day of pomp and pageantry that will end with three inaugural balls, Mr. Trump will have the opportunity to revel in his moment of triumph. Surrounded by relatives, lawmakers, former presidents and other dignitaries, including Mr. Obama, and the Democrat he beat last November, Hillary Clinton, Mr. Trump took command of a country unsettled after one of the most polarizing periods in modern times.
His critics have made clear they will not defer even for a day to a new leader they accuse of playing to racism and hatred. Demonstrators gathered early Friday morning to protest the new president. Liberal groups have organized a march that they expect to draw as many as 200,000 to downtown Washington on Saturday.
Violence broke out an hour before Mr. Trump was inaugurated when protesters smashed shop windows around Franklin Square in downtown Washington. A Bank of America branch had all its windows shattered and a Starbucks was left with a gaping hole in its glass front door. Police officers in riot helmets used pepper spray to break up groups of protesters, who spread out and kept breaking windows.
For Mr. Trump, the ceremonies capped a remarkable rise to power that defied all expectations, and his ascension amounts to a hostile takeover of a capital facing its most significant disruption in generations. While officially a Republican, Mr. Trump has at times assailed leaders of both parties and positioned himself as the ultimate outsider, making clear that he will follow his own instincts in determining the nation’s course.
America has never seen a president quite like Mr. Trump, the son and grandson of immigrants who grew up to become a real estate magnate, casino owner, beauty pageant operator and reality television star whose tumultuous love life played out on tabloid front pages.
Never before has the presidential oath been administered to someone who had never served either in public office or as a general in the military. At age 70, Mr. Trump will become the oldest president ever sworn in for the first time and the first born in New York since Franklin D. Roosevelt.
He is one of the wealthiest presidents ever to enter the White House, with far-reaching business ties that have already raised questions about where his interests end and the country’s begin. He arrives in the Oval Office dogged by reports about Russian interference in the election on his behalf and, in the hours before his inauguration, fresh word of a federal investigation into the Russian ties of some of his advisers.
But Mr. Trump overcame the skeptics who did not take him seriously when he embarked on what seemed like a quixotic bid for the presidency. An Ivy League-educated mogul who lives in a tower with an 80-foot-long living room in the heart of the nation’s largest city, he turned himself into the unlikely leader of a populist movement rooted away from the country’s urban and suburban coasts.
His bracing candor, disregard for convention and willingness to offend whole sections of the population to make a point came across as refreshing truth telling to many Americans disenchanted with politically correct Washington elites in both parties. But his constant quarrels and impulsive Twitter storms have alienated many others, leaving him with the lowest support in polls of any president entering office in modern times.
He takes over on Friday without much of a team in place. Although he has named nominees for every cabinet post, the Senate confirmation process has slowed and few sub-cabinet officials have been announced. Mr. Trump has asked more than 50 officials from Mr. Obama’s administration, particularly in security agencies, to stay temporarily to ensure the continuity of government.
For the nation’s 58th inauguration, Mr. Trump opted largely to follow tradition. He and Mrs. Trump, a Slovenian-born former supermodel, started the day at a service at St. John’s Episcopal Church across Lafayette Square from the White House, then made the short trip to the executive mansion for coffee with Mr. Obama and his wife, Michelle. From there, the two presidents shared a limousine for the short motorcade to the Capitol.
In addition to Mr. Obama, former Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are attending the ceremony, though all four opposed Mr. Trump’s election. The elder President George Bush remained hospitalized in Houston, where he was recovering from pneumonia. More than four dozen House Democrats announced they would boycott the event in protest.
Three religious leaders representing different faiths offered invocations. Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, the Roman Catholic archbishop of New York, who once accused Mr. Trump of “nativism,” led off, followed by the Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriguez of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference and Pastor Paula White, a prominent televangelist from Florida.
Michael Richard Pence was sworn in first as vice president by Justice Clarence Thomas. Mr. Pence, 57, a former governor and congressman from Indiana, placed his hand on Ronald Reagan’s Bible as his wife, Karen, and three adult children, Michael, Charlotte and Audrey, looked on.
For his own oath, Mr. Trump placed his hand on two Bibles, one given him by his mother in 1955 just before his ninth birthday and the other used by Abraham Lincoln when he was inaugurated in 1861 and again by Mr. Obama in 2009 and 2013.
Standing nearby was Mrs. Trump and the new president’s grown children from two previous marriages, Donald Jr., Eric, Ivanka and Tiffany. Also on hand was Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, who will serve as an unpaid senior adviser in his father-in-law’s White House. Mr. Trump’s son, Barron, 10, did not attend the morning events but attended the swearing-in; he will remain in New York with Mrs. Trump until the end of the school year.
With the completion of the oath, the Marine Band played “Ruffles and Flourishes” four times and then “Hail to the Chief,” followed by a 21-gun salute.
After Mr. Trump’s Inaugural Address there were benedictions from Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder of the Simon Wiesenthal Center; the Rev. Franklin Graham, reprising a role his father, the Rev. Billy Graham, often played; and Bishop Wayne T. Jackson, who runs Great Faith Ministries International and Impact Network, which calls itself the only Christian television network founded and operated by African-Americans.
Jackie Evancho, a 16-year-old who earned fame as the runner-up on the television show “America’s Got Talent” in 2010, sang the national anthem.
Other artists declined to participate, including Jennifer Holliday, who canceled her appearance just days before the event after a backlash from gay and lesbian fans. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir performed, despite an online petition signed by 36,000 people and the resignation of one of its members. So will the choir from the Washington National Cathedral, over the objections of the cathedral’s most recent dean.
As other presidents have before him, Mr. Trump was to share a lunch of lobster, beef and chocolate soufflé with lawmakers in the Statuary Hall of the Capitol before traveling back down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House, where he will watch the inaugural parade from the temporary bandstands erected for the occasion.
In a city where Mr. Trump won just 4 percent of the vote, many residents fled town for a long weekend, leaving many downtown streets empty even outside of the security zone guarded by an extensive phalanx of thousands of police officers and military personnel.
After eight years in power, Mr. Obama made his exit, heading after the ceremony by helicopter from the Capitol to Joint Base Andrews in suburban Maryland, where he addressed a crowd of former aides and allies.
He and Mrs. Obama then boarded the presidential jet, no longer designated as Air Force One, for a flight to Palm Springs, Calif., for a vacation before returning to Washington.
The Obamas have rented a house not far from the White House to allow their youngest daughter, Sasha, to finish high school, making Mr. Obama the first president to stay in Washington after leaving office since Woodrow Wilson.
Just hours before his departure, Mr. Obama took to Twitter, expressing his gratitude to his 13.6 million followers and hinting that he did not intend to fade quietly away. He asked for their thoughts and vowed to continue to be politically active.
“I won’t stop; I’ll be right there with you as a citizen, inspired by your voices of truth and justice, good humor, and love,” Mr. Obama said, directing people to a video message on a new website for his foundation, Obama.org. In the video, Mr. Obama, joined by Mrs. Obama, pledged to make the foundation a “living, working center for citizenship” around the world.

WASHINGTON — Donald John Trump was inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States on Friday, ushering in a new and more unpredictable era in which he vowed to shatter the established order and restore American greatness.
From the West Front of the Capitol, overlooking a crowd of hundreds of thousands as rain began to fall, Mr. Trump presented a dark vision of a nation afflicted by division and dislocation, exploited and forgotten by a group of Washington elites and diminished around the world. His arrival, he promised, would finally turn it around.
“This American carnage stops right here and stops right now,” he declared in a forceful 16-minute Inaugural Address.
“The time for empty talk is over,” he added later. “Now arrives the hour for action. Do not allow anyone to tell you it cannot be done.”
He said the inauguration represented not just the peaceful transfer of power from one party to another. “We are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you the people,” he said.

Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered, but the jobs left and the factories closed. Mr. Trump, wearing a dark suit with red tie and accompanied by his wife, Melania, in a powder-blue suit, intends to waste little time after taking the 35-word oath that was administered by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. to start unraveling the policies of his departing predecessor, President Obama. Within hours of taking office, the new president could begin signing executive orders freezing regulations put in place in the last weeks of Mr. Obama’s tenure and reversing policies on health care, immigration and other areas.
His son Donald Trump Jr. said the new president was coming to grips with the gravity of his new position, even if it did not necessarily seem so in public. “He’s been humbled by the whole process,” he said on MSNBC. “And you know, whether he shows that outwardly or not is, you know, is one thing.”
Through a long day of pomp and pageantry that will end with three inaugural balls, Mr. Trump will have the opportunity to revel in his moment of triumph. Surrounded by relatives, lawmakers, former presidents and other dignitaries, including Mr. Obama, and the Democrat he beat last November, Hillary Clinton, Mr. Trump took command of a country unsettled after one of the most polarizing periods in modern times.
His critics have made clear they will not defer even for a day to a new leader they accuse of playing to racism and hatred. Demonstrators gathered early Friday morning to protest the new president. Liberal groups have organized a march that they expect to draw as many as 200,000 to downtown Washington on Saturday.
Violence broke out an hour before Mr. Trump was inaugurated when protesters smashed shop windows around Franklin Square in downtown Washington. A Bank of America branch had all its windows shattered and a Starbucks was left with a gaping hole in its glass front door. Police officers in riot helmets used pepper spray to break up groups of protesters, who spread out and kept breaking windows.
For Mr. Trump, the ceremonies capped a remarkable rise to power that defied all expectations, and his ascension amounts to a hostile takeover of a capital facing its most significant disruption in generations. While officially a Republican, Mr. Trump has at times assailed leaders of both parties and positioned himself as the ultimate outsider, making clear that he will follow his own instincts in determining the nation’s course.
America has never seen a president quite like Mr. Trump, the son and grandson of immigrants who grew up to become a real estate magnate, casino owner, beauty pageant operator and reality television star whose tumultuous love life played out on tabloid front pages.
Never before has the presidential oath been administered to someone who had never served either in public office or as a general in the military. At age 70, Mr. Trump will become the oldest president ever sworn in for the first time and the first born in New York since Franklin D. Roosevelt.
He is one of the wealthiest presidents ever to enter the White House, with far-reaching business ties that have already raised questions about where his interests end and the country’s begin. He arrives in the Oval Office dogged by reports about Russian interference in the election on his behalf and, in the hours before his inauguration, fresh word of a federal investigation into the Russian ties of some of his advisers.
But Mr. Trump overcame the skeptics who did not take him seriously when he embarked on what seemed like a quixotic bid for the presidency. An Ivy League-educated mogul who lives in a tower with an 80-foot-long living room in the heart of the nation’s largest city, he turned himself into the unlikely leader of a populist movement rooted away from the country’s urban and suburban coasts.
His bracing candor, disregard for convention and willingness to offend whole sections of the population to make a point came across as refreshing truth telling to many Americans disenchanted with politically correct Washington elites in both parties. But his constant quarrels and impulsive Twitter storms have alienated many others, leaving him with the lowest support in polls of any president entering office in modern times.
He takes over on Friday without much of a team in place. Although he has named nominees for every cabinet post, the Senate confirmation process has slowed and few sub-cabinet officials have been announced. Mr. Trump has asked more than 50 officials from Mr. Obama’s administration, particularly in security agencies, to stay temporarily to ensure the continuity of government.
For the nation’s 58th inauguration, Mr. Trump opted largely to follow tradition. He and Mrs. Trump, a Slovenian-born former supermodel, started the day at a service at St. John’s Episcopal Church across Lafayette Square from the White House, then made the short trip to the executive mansion for coffee with Mr. Obama and his wife, Michelle. From there, the two presidents shared a limousine for the short motorcade to the Capitol.
In addition to Mr. Obama, former Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are attending the ceremony, though all four opposed Mr. Trump’s election. The elder President George Bush remained hospitalized in Houston, where he was recovering from pneumonia. More than four dozen House Democrats announced they would boycott the event in protest.
Three religious leaders representing different faiths offered invocations. Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, the Roman Catholic archbishop of New York, who once accused Mr. Trump of “nativism,” led off, followed by the Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriguez of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference and Pastor Paula White, a prominent televangelist from Florida.
Michael Richard Pence was sworn in first as vice president by Justice Clarence Thomas. Mr. Pence, 57, a former governor and congressman from Indiana, placed his hand on Ronald Reagan’s Bible as his wife, Karen, and three adult children, Michael, Charlotte and Audrey, looked on.
For his own oath, Mr. Trump placed his hand on two Bibles, one given him by his mother in 1955 just before his ninth birthday and the other used by Abraham Lincoln when he was inaugurated in 1861 and again by Mr. Obama in 2009 and 2013.
Standing nearby was Mrs. Trump and the new president’s grown children from two previous marriages, Donald Jr., Eric, Ivanka and Tiffany. Also on hand was Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, who will serve as an unpaid senior adviser in his father-in-law’s White House. Mr. Trump’s son, Barron, 10, did not attend the morning events but attended the swearing-in; he will remain in New York with Mrs. Trump until the end of the school year.
With the completion of the oath, the Marine Band played “Ruffles and Flourishes” four times and then “Hail to the Chief,” followed by a 21-gun salute.
After Mr. Trump’s Inaugural Address there were benedictions from Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder of the Simon Wiesenthal Center; the Rev. Franklin Graham, reprising a role his father, the Rev. Billy Graham, often played; and Bishop Wayne T. Jackson, who runs Great Faith Ministries International and Impact Network, which calls itself the only Christian television network founded and operated by African-Americans.
Jackie Evancho, a 16-year-old who earned fame as the runner-up on the television show “America’s Got Talent” in 2010, sang the national anthem.
Other artists declined to participate, including Jennifer Holliday, who canceled her appearance just days before the event after a backlash from gay and lesbian fans. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir performed, despite an online petition signed by 36,000 people and the resignation of one of its members. So will the choir from the Washington National Cathedral, over the objections of the cathedral’s most recent dean.
As other presidents have before him, Mr. Trump was to share a lunch of lobster, beef and chocolate soufflé with lawmakers in the Statuary Hall of the Capitol before traveling back down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House, where he will watch the inaugural parade from the temporary bandstands erected for the occasion.
In a city where Mr. Trump won just 4 percent of the vote, many residents fled town for a long weekend, leaving many downtown streets empty even outside of the security zone guarded by an extensive phalanx of thousands of police officers and military personnel.
After eight years in power, Mr. Obama made his exit, heading after the ceremony by helicopter from the Capitol to Joint Base Andrews in suburban Maryland, where he addressed a crowd of former aides and allies.
He and Mrs. Obama then boarded the presidential jet, no longer designated as Air Force One, for a flight to Palm Springs, Calif., for a vacation before returning to Washington.
The Obamas have rented a house not far from the White House to allow their youngest daughter, Sasha, to finish high school, making Mr. Obama the first president to stay in Washington after leaving office since Woodrow Wilson.
Just hours before his departure, Mr. Obama took to Twitter, expressing his gratitude to his 13.6 million followers and hinting that he did not intend to fade quietly away. He asked for their thoughts and vowed to continue to be politically active.
“I won’t stop; I’ll be right there with you as a citizen, inspired by your voices of truth and justice, good humor, and love,” Mr. Obama said, directing people to a video message on a new website for his foundation, Obama.org. In the video, Mr. Obama, joined by Mrs. Obama, pledged to make the foundation a “living, working center for citizenship” around the world.

Now, the USA predominantly being a Christian country, and Trump also being a Christian, one can understand the Christian preachers being asked to bless the new President, but why the rabbi?
And if the idea was to get blessings from a range of religious leaders, then why not also, say, from a Hindu, Sikh or Muslim religious leader? (OK, maybe not a Muslim for obvious reasons, but why not say a Hindu, Sikh or Buddhist?).

From what I see here, Jewish and Christian people have good relations. They frequently intermarry and do not hesitate to attend each others functions. This is exactly what makes them a great country.
Just recently I realized that my boss is a Jewish woman. I always thought she was Christian as she is very active during Christmas and decorates her cube so much. In fact many people whom I thought are Christian were in fact Jewish. They all have English sounding names.

They have English sounding names if they are have been living in England for generations. Similarly French names if in France, Russian if in Russia ....etc. I once read a book about Jewish migrations around Europe (written by a prominent Jew from one of the Jewish dynasty's - Goldberg I think) where the writer stated that Jews were encouraged to alter their names to fit in with the local cultures and naming conventions of wherever they lived.
As for Jews intermarrying with those of other faiths, that is a relatively recent phenomena. And something frowned upon by most Jewish leaders.
Don't forget that Jews claim that they are a separate and distinct race (even UK Law acknowledges that in the Race Relations Act 1976), and, considering the relatively small numbers of Jews in the world, by Jews marrying non-Jews the Jews are risking their race being diluted and eventually assimilated into the non-Jewish society at large.

But not good for Jews in general. As per the earlier post, if the practice of Jews marrying non-Jews became too widespread, then the Jewish race will start becoming diluted, and with the relatively low number of Jews overall, the Jewish race will risk being assimilated and completely disappearing over time as a distinct and separate race. It is only by adhering to strict practices of only marrying within the Jewish community that has enabled the Jews, over thousands of years, to keep their separate identity as a race.

That policy has failed in the past and will fail. Half of what America is today is because of immigrants. If only things were so black and white right? Don't expect a reasoned reply, I tried for 6 months and all I heard back was "Hillary was worse, you're brainwashed by MSM etc". The fact is this man ran on a ticket of draining the swamp and cleaning up Washington but Crooked Donald's hypocrisy has been laid bare.
It was always obvious to any objective mind before the election. His conflicts of interest, the appointment of oil exec Tillerson as Sec of State (a man with no diplomatic experience), DeVos and the litany of Goldman Sachs cabinet appointees show Trump has no interest in taking on the multinationals, the special interests and lobbyists.
The only reason DeVos has been appointed Education Secretary with the task of annihilating public education is because she's donated hundreds of millions of dollars to Republican super PACs and millions to Republican Senators over the years.
He's planning on massive tax giveaways to the rich and is going to strip away even Obama's timid attempts at banking regulation. If anyone ever needed an example of the corrupting influence of special interests - it was that picture of JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon sitting next to Trump as he pledged to destroy Dodd-Frank the other day.

I'm all for America first...but what he's doing isn't exactly achieving that. I just want to hear what justification Trump supporters have. The other day when DeVos was voted in - people at my work (who voted Trump) would not accept the fact that she was a paid candidate and said stuff like..."but most of the education is handled by the states...and only around 10% comes under the federal authority...Democrats are just creating drama"...What they did with Senator Warren was also appalling. Republicans have a habit towing the party line but not admitting when Trump is wrong or labeling everything as fake news is very worrying.
Trump has nothing against legal immigrants, his own wife is one. Pathethic to see a desi bat for western liberal ideologi, aur ghar me hai Hindutva Prime Minister.

You might have grown up in a private school in India but I actually LIVE in the Detroit area where DeVos has so called pushed for her charter school system. If you ever get a chance please do come out here and see what state the city is in. A charter/private system will NOT work in a city massively drowning in poverty, organized crime, and a dwindling population. Also, a city that has miraculously come out of the largest municipal bankruptcy. Majority of the population that lives in Detroit city is African American and have a staggering high school graduation rate of 10%. Please explain how a charter system will actually make things better when almost 1 out 3 families are entirely living on welfare?

Nobody is asking to be completely done away with Public school. At the very least, competition between public and charter school systems will encourage better graduation rates. Detroit is a mess under 30 years of Democratic rule. Surely the solution cannot be to try the same old policies.
Nordstrom can say what it wants, everyone knows it was the leftist "GrabYourWallet" group that pressured them to drop Ivanka's brand. Hopefully they go down like Macy's did after they cut Trump's brand. I have plenty of disagreements with Trump btw, the saber rattling with Iran is one of them. He's still the far better option than any politician in D.C.
