US President Donald Trump Wednesday claimed India was among the countries that do not accurately disclose the number of deaths due to Covid-19. Speaking in the first presidential debate against his Democratic challenger Joe Biden, Trump said India, China and Russia “did not exactly give a straight count” on deaths due to the novel coronavirus.

When you talk about numbers, you don’t know how many people died in China. You don’t know the deaths in Russia or in India… they don’t exactly give you a straight count, just so you understand,” Trump said to Biden after the latter highlighted the United States has more than seven million cases and over 200,000 deaths.

By closing the country early, we saved thousands of lives… If it was left to you, millions of people would have died. You could have never have done the job we did. You don’t have the blood to do the job,” Trump told Biden.

Why would Trump attack his best friend like this? Modi should call out Trump for essentially calling him a liar.

I listened to the debate

He said Russia, china and India (and if you listen to it his meaning was that most countries except for us are not sharing correct numbers in response to Biden saying that our death rate was significantly higher than other countries)

Yes he did technically said it but its out of context and a bit "nitpicky"

More than 60 million people in India -- 10 times the official figure -- could have contracted the novel coronavirus, the country's lead pandemic agency said Tuesday, citing a nationwide study measuring antibodies.

According to official data India, home to 1.3 billion people, is the world's second most infected nation, with more than 6.1 million cases, just behind the United States.

But the real figure could be much higher, according to the latest serological survey -- a study testing blood for certain antibodies to estimate the proportion of a population that has fought off the virus.

"The main conclusions from this sero-survey are that one in 15 individuals aged more than 10 have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2 by August," Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) director-general Balram Bhargava said at a health ministry press conference.

Bhargava said evidence of virus exposure was more prevalent among people tested in urban slums (15.6 percent) and non-slum urban areas (8.2 percent), than in rural areas, where 4.4 percent of those surveyed had antibodies.

The blood tests were collected from just over 29,000 people in 21 states or territories between mid-August and mid-September.

The new figures are a sharp jump from the first sero-survey results, which the ICMR said showed that around 0.73 percent of adults in India -- about six million people -- were infected by May.

Other antibody studies conducted in the capital New Delhi and financial hub Mumbai have suggested more infections than the official numbers say.

Scientists warn, however, that antibody tests should be treated with caution because they also pick up exposure to other coronaviruses, not just the one that causes Covid-19, the disease which has killed more than 1 million people worldwide since it emerged late last year.

India -- which has one of the world's most poorly funded healthcare systems -- has gradually lifted a strict lockdown imposed in late March even as infections steadily climb, to revive its battered economy.

It's a free world. Anyone who wants to think differently, can think different.

Some people think as earth is flat. Doesn't make that fact. But it's a choice that people can make.

I was listening to NPR a couple of weeks ago and they had some Indian official on (can't remember their name) and they agreed that there is a possibility that not all the deaths are being counted, especially in the rural parts of the country.

Nah, no big deal bro, Quad will start taking control of things soon and China will be neutered. Relax

Can't wait to see the Australians fighting in Ladakh. :2gunsfiri

Trump is hardly wrong about cases and deaths being undercounted though - even if he didn't mention us specifically. How can we be accurate in a country the size of ours?

He's not wrong though.

Don't think even a single country has disclosed their true figures. And in South Asia, one can only imagine the margin of error......

We are ruled by Feku so obviously our stats will be fake.

So yet another head of nation telling bigot his aukaat.

Anyone who thinks that the official numbers in India are correct is kidding himself.

By the way it'll be funny to hear what Modi has to say to his friend.

Mitr doland, is prakaar ki bhaasha ka upyog kada bhi uchit nahi.

He didnt specifically target India...plesee listen to the whole debate. He said countries with big population like India, China and Russia dont give a straight count countering to Biden when he accused America of false reporting of covid numbers.

And LOL at Shekhar Gupta's Bhangra- "You can see he has zero respect for India". I mean what? :))

Liberals again proving what is wrong with them and why they are an outclass.

He didn’t say big populations. He literally said China and then added that do you even believe India or Russia will give actual numbers. If population was the measure then he wouldn’t have taken Russia’s name which has less people than one state of India

Trump brought up India twice in the debate.

First, as a country which lies about its covid death count and second, as a country which is a global leading polluter.

Probably one of the few occasions he was correct in this debate

That's because India/Russia has a clean image in international forum. If .... (India/Russia) doesn't do it, then .... (how can you expect from us)?

Do you watch Hindu Mythology shows like Mahadev/Mahabharat? Your pure Hindi is good.

Lol ok if that’s the spin you want to take

Trump is not wrong here. But he used India's name to counter opponents arguments. Anything that gives advantage to him, he will use. Nothing new.

I saw the whole debate, he never said India 'lies' about its covid death count, I believe he said the numbers coming out of India are not accurate. Unless of course I missed it, can you give me a link to the video on your lying claim...

Pakistan actually prefers Trump in power. Anyone who thinks Trump has any special love for the Indians is kidding himself, he already raised the salary cap on H1B visa holders which was aimed at stopping software graduates from India getting a job in Silicon Valley.

It was interesting how he brought into disrepute India's figures - put them in same category as China.
