Republicans inch closer to Senate majority in early results

Republicans have struck an early victory in the race to control Congress, with a formerly Democratic-aligned seat in West Virginia won by the state's current governor, Jim Justice.

In addition to the presidency, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 34 seats in the Senate are up for grabs on election day.

Republicans currently hold a majority in the House. The projected win by Justice takes the Senate to a 50-50 split. Results in other seats are pending, however.

The party that wins a majority on either side of Capitol Hill will have greater leverage to enact its own agenda, regardless of who is in the White House.

Congressional results

One party in control of the House, Senate and the White House would have broad power to pass laws and enact the president's partisan agenda.

The Senate seat in West Virginia flipped Republican, after the retirement of the former Democrat Joe Manchin, who frequently clashed with members of his own party before turning independent.

The winner, Justice, had himself been a Democrat before switching parties to Republican at a Trump rally in 2017.

Republicans were also projected to retain control of a Senate seat in Florida.

Incumbent Rick Scott, also a former governor, was first elected six years ago. He was running against former Miami-area Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, a Democrat who migrated from Ecuador as a child.

Speaking at a victory rally, Scott predicted that Republicans would seize the majority in the Senate, and that he would be selected as Senate Majority Leader.

"Florida is the centre of the Republican party of this country," he told the crowd. "Washington can learn a hell of a lot from what we've done right here in this great state."

Democrats held a seat in Delaware, a state that President Joe Biden represented as a senator for 36 years, with a victory for fourth-term Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester.

In Maryland, the Democrats retained a seat vacated by Ben Cardin, with Angela Alsobrooks beating the popular Republican Governor Larry Hogan.

They will become the first black female senators to represent their respective states.

Several other incumbent senators won an additional six-year term.

In Texas, Trump ally Ted Cruz fended off a robust challenge from former NFL player Colin Allred to win a third term.

Democrats had launched a concerted effort to beat Cruz but the party has not won a state-wide election in more than 30 years.

Other contests that would swing control of the upper chamber of Congress are taking place in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Montana, Michigan, Nevada, Nebraska, Texas and Wisconsin.

Both parties are also vying for control of the House, although the balance of power there will not be known for several days.

The vast majority of House elections are happening in "safe districts" - regions where one party is nearly certain to win. But a handful of other races in swing districts could determine who controls Washington DC.

House races that could swing the balance are taking place a wide variety of states, with closely watched elections happening in California, New York, Washington, Maine and Alaska.

Trump has won Georgia.

Trump now has 246 seats. Just 24 more to go.

Kamala must win Pennsylvania and Michigan to have a chance.

The fact this is even close when one of the candidates literally incited a terror attack on the centre of the countries democracy is a pretty disturbing indictment.

with 86% reporting Kamala is still 150k behind in Pennsylvania, if Pennsylvania turns red thats it for this election
Think it's pretty much done. Just saw an analysis where she'll have to hugely outperform Biden in the suburban counties to make up the difference in what she's been losing rurally and in college towns in Pennsylvania.

Anything's still faintly possible but it's looking very very bleak for the Dems. They could end the night losing the presidency, senate and possibly the house.

Pennsylvania is pretty much trump now, leading by 200k, I think thats it for this election. when biden moved away from the race, Democrats made a major mistake in giving the baton to Kamala. whatever the hypocrite murica says they do not want a woman president. Trump would not have been a single time president let alone two if clinton and harris was not his opponents

Our Desi God( self declared for life) must be nervous right now. Biden put the mafia in office will Trump work with them. Interesting times
I don't they need to be concerned in the least. Trump would love to work with them if commit to a little bit of distance from China.

Are you saying if the election was between a Mr. Harris and a Mrs. Trump, Harris would have won?

Kamala Harris cancels election night party as path to victory narrows

Donald Trump has won Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia and taken a lead over Kamala Harris in most of the other four battleground states that will decide the winner of the US presidential election, the BBC's US partner CBS projects.

CBS says Wisconsin is leaning towards Trump and he is ahead in the other so-called Rust Belt state of Michigan. The results are not final.

Incomplete returns also suggest Trump has a lead in Nevada, while the race remains tight in the other sun belt battleground of Arizona.

In more good news for Trump's fellow Republicans, the party is projected to win majority control of the Senate.

As expected, Trump has swept conservative strongholds from Florida to Idaho, while Harris won liberal states from New York to California, CBS projects.

The Democrat was expected to spend election night at Howard University in Washington DC, where she was an undergraduate, but it emerged after midnight that she would not attend.

Following the announcement by campaign co-chairman Cedric Richmond, the crowd all but disappeared from Harris HQ at the historically black college.

The party-like atmosphere of a few hours earlier at Howard had already turned sour as two swing states were called for Trump.

From Harris HQ, Democratic fundraiser Lindy Li told the BBC that it is "pretty grim right now".

"People are getting increasingly anxious," she said, "but there is still a pathway. I am still holding on to that, but this is not the night we wanted."

Trump was expected to appear shortly at his campaign watch party in West Palm Beach, Florida, where the mood was celebratory.

Elon Musk, the world's richest man and Trump mega-donor, is spending election night with the Republican nominee. The billionaire posted a photo showing him locked in discussions with Trump overnight.

The result appears to be moving towards a seismic political comeback for Trump.

The Republican may also have a friendly Congress with which to push his agenda though, Congress, with both chambers also up for grabs in Tuesday's vote.

CBS projects Republicans will win control of the Senate after wresting two seats in West Virginia and Ohio from the Democrats and beating off a stiff challenge in Texas.

Neither party seemed to have an overall edge in the House, which Republicans narrowly control.

Around 86 million voters cast their ballots early amid one of the most turbulent campaigns in recent American history.

Vice-President Harris, 60, only became the Democratic Party candidate in July, after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race under pressure from within the party.

Trump, 78, was the target of two assassination plots - narrowly avoiding a sniper's bullet in Pennsylvania.

The former president said he felt "very confident" as he voted earlier on Tuesday near his home in Palm Beach, Florida, with his wife, Melania.

"If I lose an election, if it's a fair election, I'm going to be the first one to acknowledge it," he said.

He posted earlier on his social media platform, Truth Social, saying "law enforcement coming" to Philadelphia because of "massive cheating".

Philadelphia's police department told BBC Verify they were unaware of any electoral fraud. The city's top prosecutor said the allegation had "no factual basis whatsoever".

Both sides have armies of lawyers on standby for legal challenges on and after election day.

If Harris won, she would become the first woman, black woman and South-Asian American to win the presidency.

Trump would become the first president to win non-consecutive terms in more than 130 years. He is also the only president to be impeached twice and the first former president to be criminally convicted.

CBS exit poll data suggests Harris may have under-performed with women.

Some 54% of female voters cast their ballots for her, the numbers indicate. But Joe Biden won the support of 57% of women in 2020.

Law enforcement agencies nationwide are on high alert for potential violence.

About 30 bomb threats hoaxes targeted election-related locations nationwide on Tuesday, more than half of them in the state of Georgia alone, reports CBS.

Netanyahu and Orban lead congratulations to Trump

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hungary's Victor Orban have been among the first world leaders to congratulate Donald Trump - the projected winner of the US presidential election.

The election of a new president isn't a big deal for the US only - a new leader a new leader in the White House can transform the country's foreign policy and its position towards to its friends and foes internationally.

Here is how some of the world's leaders have reacted so far.

In his statement, Netanyahu spoke of "history’s greatest comeback", adding that Trump's return to office offered a "new beginning for America a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America".

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban - a close ally - said Trump's election was "a much needed victory for the world".

"The biggest comeback in US political history!" he wrote in a post on X.

Mr Orban had openly endorsed Mr Trump's re-election bid, after being the first and only EU leader to back him in 2016.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: "I look forward to working with Trump in the years ahead".

“From growth and security to innovation and tech, I know that the UK-US special relationship will continue to prosper on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come,” Starmer added.

French President Emmanuel Macron also congratulated Trump, saying he was ready to work together with him just as before, "with respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity".

Macron also said that he had held talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, over working to defend Europe's interests and values while co-operating with the US.

Nato's Secretary General Mark Rutte said Trump's leadership "will again be key to keeping our Alliance strong. I look forward to working with him again to advance peace through strength through Nato".

Donald Trump has been critical of the Nato alliance, accusing its European allies of not paying enough for security.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on X: "I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the 'peace through strength' approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer."

Increasingly looking like he's trending to win.

It's between a fascist idiot and a probably incompetent shell so a pretty low stakes election but I can't help but feel this is probably the worse result.

Anyone not conforming to your leftist pseudo liberal ideology is a fascist.

I thank the gods that you guys are not going to be in power in India for a long time.

Marx would spin in his grave hearing me called a leftist. I'm thoroughly free-market and capitalist.
On the other hand, I'm pretty liberal so maybe you're at least partly right.

As far as Trump is concerned, anyone who refuses to accept defeat in a fair election is a wannabe fascist in my book.

Just FYI as far as labels are concerned -

I voted BJP in the national election
Will vote NCP in the Maharashtra election

Which NCP? NCP-SCP.

Donald Trump defeats Kamala Harris to win 2024 presidential election

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will defeat his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, and return to the White House for another four years, NBC News projects.

After losing his reelection bid to President Joe Biden in 2020, Trump, the 45th president, will now become the 47th.

Trump’s victory marks a series of historic firsts. At 78, he is the oldest person ever to win a U.S. presidential election. He will be the first president in 132 years — since Grover Cleveland — to serve two nonconsecutive terms in office. And he emerged victorious from what is likely the most expensive presidential race in history.

He is also the first president, current or former, ever to be convicted of crimes. He is the first twice-impeached president ever to win back the White House. He is the first president ever to take office while fending off criminal charges in multiple active federal and state cases.

Trump’s win denies Harris, the vice president, what would have been her own historic milestone: becoming the first woman president of the United States.

It also represents a staggering political achievement for Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, who won his first election just two years earlier.

Just 40 years old, Vance, a former Trump critic turned loyalist and top advocate for the president-elect’s right-wing populist movement, is now first in the presidential line of succession.

If Trump pursues his campaign promises, his second administration will soon set out to enact an ambitious, controversial agenda centered on deep tax cuts, mass deportations and reshaped relationships with foreign leaders.

Trump has also vowed to impose heavy tariffs, claiming that they will simultaneously boost U.S. revenues, strengthen domestic industries and deter unwanted foreign competition.

Mainstream economists have repeatedly warned that the tariffs, which are taxes paid by U.S. importers, will raise prices on American consumers.

It remains to be seen to what extent Trump’s presidential agenda will resemble the sum of his many claims as a candidate.

He has vowed to pardon his supporters who violently rioted at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

He has assured that he will quickly broker an end to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a vague stance that threatens to undo the Biden administration’s policy of strong support for Kyiv.

He has said he would put Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a vocal vaccine skeptic, in charge of health policy, and tap billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk to propose trillions of dollars in government spending cuts.

He has denied Democrats’ warnings that he will behave in office like a dictator, “except for Day One.”

The campaign that delivered Trump’s election was no less historic.

Trump survived an assassination attempt in mid-July, when Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old registered Republican who had donated to a Democratic group, opened fire with an AR-15-style rifle during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Crooks fatally shot one rally attendee, and one of his bullets grazed Trump’s ear, streaking his face with blood.

Trump’s immediate reaction to the shooting — pumping his fist and defiantly telling his supporters to “fight!” as Secret Service agents rushed him off stage — instantly became a defining moment of the campaign.

Just a few days later, the race was shaken up again.

In late July, Harris, 60, was catapulted to the top of the Democratic presidential ticket after Biden announced he would no longer seek reelection.

Biden’s stunning decision, which made him the first incumbent president since Lyndon Johnson to voluntarily end his White House stay, was one he had initially resisted.

The 81-year-old and his allies, including Harris, had vociferously defended his physical and mental fitness for four more years as president.

But a simmering undercurrent of Democratic uneasiness dramatically boiled over after a shocking debate performance in late June, when a frail and distracted-looking Biden delivered raspy, halting and inarticulate answers versus Trump.

Less than a month later, amid a collapse in internal support and dwindling poll numbers, Biden ended his campaign and backed Harris as his replacement.

The switch effectively reset the race, forcing Trump to throw out many of his well-rehearsed attacks and adapt to an opponent unburdened by Biden’s most glaring weaknesses.

It wasn’t a seamless transition: Harris bested Trump in the candidates’ one and only debate in mid-September, and Trump declined her repeated challenges to face off again.

But polls gradually showed the race tightening, as Trump’s campaign worked to blame Harris for the inflation and immigration woes that had dragged down Biden’s approval ratings throughout his presidency.

Saudi King, Crown Prince congratulate Trump on US election victory

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump for winning the US presidential election, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

King Salman and MBS sent separate cables congratulating Trump, who returns to the White House after defeating Democrat candidate Kamala Harris.

In a cable sent to Trump, King Salman also praised the “historically close [bilateral] relations that everyone seeks to strengthen and develop in all fields.”

Trump has cleared the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency ending an electoral campaign against Vice President Harris, who only entered the race in July after President Joe Biden dropped out.

The Indian woman pretending to be black was a fraud with zero personality & a few brain cells .

Back to Trump who made a lot of promises as he did before his first stint , will now have to start writing excuses why these can’t be fulfilled.

Two cartoon characters who have no real say in the future policies of America or the world .

However trump as a convicted criminal can be easily blamed for the upcoming financial collapse.

Americas decline cannot be altered even if Trump & Harris morphed together

Gazans want new US president to end the war

Palestinians in war-ravaged Gaza told AFP on Tuesday that whoever emerges victorious in the US presidential election must end the conflict in the territory, which has taken an appalling human toll.

"We are hanging by a thread, and like every other people in the world, we are looking for someone who can stop the war," said Ayman al-Omreiti, 45, from Gaza City's Al-Daraj neighbourhood.

"Our hope is that the American people will choose someone who can end the suffering of the Palestinian people."

Millions of Americans began to cast their ballots on Tuesday in a contest that pre-election polling suggested was too close to call.

Omreiti, who has been displaced several times during the 13 months since the war broke out, said he hoped Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris would defeat Republican rival Donald Trump.

"The Palestinian people are worried about a possible Trump victory, and we hope the results will be favourable for his opponent, Harris, because she has called for an end to the war several times," he said.

Another Palestinian resident of Gaza City, Hani Ajur, is clear in his view: Whoever becomes president must end the war.

Ajur's son and brother were killed in the war, while his home was destroyed by Israeli shelling.

"We hope that after all these sacrifices... whoever wins, whether it is Trump or Harris, will put an end to this war and bring peace to the region," he said.

"We are exhausted with the bombings, the destruction, the martyrs, the wounded and the devastation. We're just tired of this life."

Recent polls in Israel show a majority of Israelis favour Trump, but photographer Andy Alpern's choice for the White House is Harris.

He said Trump "might give us more of a free hand (but) do I think it's worth it? I don't," Alpern, 57, who resides in Israeli-occupied Golan Heights said.

"I don't think Kamala is as bad as everyone thinks she is, and she will do good things."

But he hoped the United States would continue to support Israel to "rid Lebanon of Hezbollah and Gaza of Hamas".

"These are evil organisations," he said.

"They have just as much against America and the West as they do against us."

Israel has been fighting Hamas in Gaza since the Palestinian militant group launched a deadly attack on Israel on October 7 last year, which resulted in the deaths of 1,206 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.

Israel's retaliatory military offensive has killed at least 43,391 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to the territory's health ministry, figures considered reliable by the UN.

Even Trump doesn't know what he's thinking on many issues from day to day so I cannot possibly forecast his thinking.

Sure lol

However Trump was being hit hard by the media , shot at , court cases & then Biden dropped out , Harris came in surging ahead . Next …Trump is handed a $100 million donation from the Zionist lobby , he then accepted USA is not an independent nation by having both American & Israeli flags while running for us office. From then , went to kiss old walls & memomirise his policy stance openly saying he will allow Israel to go further than Biden is . He is also compromised in some way .

Trump will do what he’s told now , he made a deal . He won’t come close to stopping the war in Ukraine ,that’s up to Putin . Iran war is likely to happen in his tenure too .

He said he will release Epstein & jfk files , complete fairy story .

Even Trump doesn't know what he's thinking on many issues from day to day so I cannot possibly forecast his thinking.
Trump will be in favor of more decisive action by Israel and wiping out of Hamas.
He is the one who set up US embassy in Jerusalem. A nice little reality check in coming for the Hamas and Hezbollah.
Trump had set in motion for peace in middle east with recognition of Israel by Arab Countries, 7th Oct literally derailed that progress. He will get Saudi, Egypt, UAE forward on the deal he had set in motion. Iran and Hamas will find themselves alone.

I think it’s gone past the days Muslims or nations care who is the president. They realise foreign policy is set against them over the long term.

Trump will do some arms deals , send aid to Israel , dance around , maybe buy casinos . Until they are ready to make him the fall guy . First term was pandemic , this time economic collapse or big war .

Tlaib and Omar win re-election amid Gaza conflict and US foreign policy debate

Democrats Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar have won re-election and continue their position in American politics after being the first two Muslim women to serve in the United States Congress.

Their victories come amid the backdrop of Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza, which has killed more than 43,000 Palestinians with diplomatic and military support from Tel Aviv’s key ally, the United States.

Tlaib, who is also the only Palestinian-American woman in US Congress, defeated her Republican opponent on Tuesday for a fourth term as a representative for Michigan with support from the large Arab-American community in Dearborn.

The Associated Press called the race with just 18 percent of the votes counted. Tlaib secured 77 percent of the vote with her opponent receiving 19 percent.

In the days leading up to the election, Tlaib declined to endorse Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris for US President. She, however, urged Americans to go to the polls and vote.

Omar, a former refugee and Somali American, won for a third term in Minnesota. She faced Republican challenger Dalia al-Aqidi, an Iraqi-American journalist who describes herself as a “secular Muslim” and called Omar, who is a proponent of Palestinian rights, pro-Hamas.

The congresswoman won 76.4 percent of the vote compared to al-Aqidi’s 23.6 percent, according to the Associated Press, which called the race with 87 percent of the vote counted.

Both Tlaib and Omar have repeatedly spoken against Israel’s war on Gaza followed by the Oct. 7 Hamas attack, the ensuring humanitarian crisis and the Biden administration’s stance on the conflict. The two have faced a slew of attacks from pro-Israel groups as well as fellow lawmakers for their remarks.

Tlaib has been a leading voice against America’s military aid to Israel and for the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank. She was censured by the House last year over rhetoric she used following the Hamas attack

Meanwhile, Omar is a part of an informal group of lawmakers known as the “Squad,” which is made up of progressive members of Congress including Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, among others.

Sheikh Hasina wishes Trump on election win, lauds his 'extraordinary leadership'

Ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday congratulated Donal Trump on his US presidential election victory. Lauding his "extraordinary leadership qualities", Hasina said the people of America had immense trust in the Republican leader.

"Sheikh Hasina has congratulated Donald J Trump on his victory as the 47th President of the United States of America," a statement issued through a post on the verified Facebook page of Awami League, read.

Republicans win majority in the Senate, flipping control of upper chamber

Republicans gained control of the Senate in the 2024 elections, with GOP wins in a handful of key races cementing the new majority and flipping party control of the upper chamber.

With a Senate map heavily in their favor, Republicans flipped West Virginia and Ohio giving them at least a 51-seat majority as a handful of races remained toss ups. One race that became surprisingly competitive in the final stretch of the campaign, Nebraska, brought the GOP over the finish line.

Democrats currently have a 51-49 majority in the Senate. But Sen. Joe Manchin's decision to leave Congress all but guaranteed a Republican flip in deep-red West Virginia, and opportunities for Republican pickups in a handful of other states spelled trouble for the Democrats. Meanwhile, Democrats had set their sights on possible pickup opportunities in Florida and Texas — which are projected to remain in Republican hands — while working to defend their most vulnerable seats.

Republicans last won a majority in the Senate in 2018, before Democrats went on to secure a narrow majority in the two most recent elections.

The Republican victory will have major implications for the new administration, bolstering the president's agenda.

The win tees up a high-stakes race for leadership of the chamber, after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced plans earlier this year to step down from leadership. Minority Whip John Thune, a South Dakota Republican, and Sen. John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, are considered the front-runners in the race to replace the longest-serving party leader in Senate history.

Afghan Taliban hope for 'new chapter' with US after Trump election win

Afghanistan’s Taliban government on Wednesday said it hoped for a “new chapter” in relations with the United States after Donald Trump’s presidential election victory.

The government hopes the future Trump administration “will take realistic steps toward concrete progress in relations between the two countries and both nations will be able to open a new chapter of relations”, foreign ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi said in a post on X.

He underscored that during former president Trump’s first term in power he presided over a peace deal with the Taliban that paved the way for the US withdrawal in 2021 “after which the 20 year occupation ended”.

The Doha agreement was signed on February 29, 2020, in the Gulf state of Qatar between the Taliban and the United States under Trump, but excluded Afghanistan’s then-ruling government.

Republicans have hammered Trump’s successor, current President Joe Biden, for the chaos during the withdrawal, which saw the deaths of 13 US service members in a suicide bombing at Kabul airport and the near-immediate retaking of the capital by the Taliban.

Biden has been criticised for pushing through with the withdrawal agreed to in Doha without holding the Taliban to conditions such as a ceasefire deal between the militants and the government in Kabul.

Trump made criticism of Biden’s handling of the retreat from Afghanistan a key note of his campaign against democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris.

The Taliban government has not been recognised by any state since they swept to power off the back of an offensive surge in the months and weeks leading up to the US withdrawal.

A key sticking point to recognition has been restrictions imposed on women, including access to education and many jobs, which the United Nations has called “gender apartheid”.

“Americans are not ready to hand over the leadership of their great country to a woman,” Inamullah Samangani, head of the information and culture department in the historical Taliban stronghold of Kandahar, said in a post on X.

A former member of parliament in Kabul Fawzia Koofi congratulated Trump but criticised the US withdrawal and lack of pressure on the Taliban government regarding women’s rights.

“As a businessman, he should understand that no nation can thrive in the long term by denying half its population the right to work and receive education.”

Harris is expected to call Trump to concede the 2024 presidential race

Vice President Harris is expected to call President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday to concede the 2024 presidential race and is also expected to speak publicly, according to two Harris aides.

Her campaign has not yet announced the exact timing of her public remarks, though she's expected to speak later in the day at Howard University. In the meantime, she is working on her speech, one of the aides said.

President Joe Biden also plans to call Trump on Wednesday and also plans to speak publicly about the election results, according to a White House official.

Biden’s reaction to Trump’s victory overall is set to include all of the things Trump never did when Biden won in 2020 — a call to congratulate him, an invitation to the White House and an offer to attend his inauguration, the White House official said.

NBC News called the presidential race Wednesday morning, projecting that Trump won just after 5:30 a.m. ET, capturing 276 electoral votes to Harris' 223.

For his part, Trump declared victory around 2:30 a.m. ET in remarks to his supporters at an election party in Florida.

While Nevada, Michigan and Arizona were too close to call on Wednesday morning, Trump carried several critical battleground states where both candidates spent a considerable amount of time: Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

Harris, 60, launched her presidential campaign after President Joe Biden, 81, withdrew from the race on July 21 and endorsed her as the Democratic Party's nominee. Biden dropped out after his devastating performance in a June presidential debate against Trump, after which key members of the party expressed deep concerns about his age as well as his ability to win in the general election and to serve another four years in the White House.

While Harris had about three months to campaign, Trump launched his re-election campaign, his third for president, shortly after the 2022 midterm elections that November.

Polls had shown in recent weeks that the race was dead even and Harris faced a gender gap in which more men, specifically white men, were backing Trump. NBC News' Exit Poll found that 54% of male voters cast their ballots for the former president, while 44% went for Harris.

The vice president had repeatedly said that she was the "underdog" in the 2024 contest and struggled to distance herself from Biden and his administration and present herself as a change candidate.

Her pitch to voters included an “opportunity economy” that would benefit the middle class and tax the wealthy; a promise to sign a bill into law that would codify Roe v. Wade abortion protections nationally; plans to help make rent more affordable; and help families with home health care costs. Harris also attacked Trump, calling him “increasingly unstable” and “unhinged,” and warned voters about the former president being a threat to democracy, calling him a “fascist.”

Trump, 78, presented himself as the candidate who could strengthen the economy and handle conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. The former president was re-elected despite being convicted of 34 felony counts in a New York hush money case and his attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election, which led to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

ET in remarks to his supporters at an election party in Florida.

modi on to do sooky sooky to Trump lol but he doesn't give two hoots about India or modi.

I do not know or frankly care what Trump's thoughts and intentions are. It's a fool's errand trying to understand the mind of someone who rarely forms a coherent thought and breaks promises no sooner than they're made.

What I do know is the true character of America, or a significant chunk of it, has been revealed. And the credibility of American democracy is in tatters.

How can you stand for democratic values when you've allowed a convicted criminal and insurrectionist who regularly talks of becoming an authoritarian to come to power ? How can you stand for human rights when a Vice President complicit in war crimes and plausible genocide according to ICC saunters to the nomination without even a primary ? Sort your sh!t out first before claiming you're a "shining city on a hill".

This moment should also be instructive to the rest of the world. Stop relying on America like some breastfed infant and be clear-eyed about your own interests.

Kamala Harris calls Donald Trump to concede defeat in US election

Kamala Harris has called Donald Trump to concede defeat in the US presidential election.

A senior adviser to the vice president said she talked about "the importance of a peaceful transfer of power" and "being a president for all Americans".

President Joe Biden also called Mr Trump to congratulate him on his election win and invited him to the White House for a transition meeting.

As a foreign observer I wish to see peace in the middle east, so many past US president’s have blood on their hands, Trump could be next after the deal he made with the devil; he was less off a war mongerer and there’s a chance that he gets into a tiff with his masters and back tracks on their agenda, one can hope…..

Excusing the foreign element, Kamala was a right piece of work with her liberal views on the other hand and I am not surprised that genuine muslims were not inclined to support her.

Kamala would still be more pro American Muslims than Trump will ever be due to the senate, Republicans have extreme control now and I see South Asians across the world celebrating weirdly Indian Hindus (ones in India) have the same view of Kamala as you.

Irrespective change is the only constant and that holds true here too

Let the liberal meltdown begin!

Kamala Harris had to lose, she was pushing the rainbow agenda, and anyone pushing the rainbow agenda must surely be the fuel of hellfire.

Halal for the Pakistani establishment and PDM to influence the Biden administration to overthrow the PTI and IK govt but Haram for PTI/IK to fight with foreign influences?
Its IK that had been crying foreign intervention when his govt. fell. That was the greatest crime against Pakistan by the "remote controlled establishment" and now IK doing the very act he called treason.

Basically, no ethics, no patriotism, "Power ke liye kuch bhi karega" . and for IK followers, it is clearly visible IK >>>>> Pakistan.

I honest to god cannot understand how anyone in their right mind can support Donald Trump. Sucks to be an American sometimes

In all honesty i was semi supporting him up until 6 months ago, the guy hasn’t changed one bit and was as usual spitting vitriol against everyone that I couldn’t support him yesterday, his supporters are annoying as hell too but that holds true for Liberals as well.
