Karachi, Aug 26 (PTI) Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani on Thursday stepped down from the post after completing his three-year term.
An official of the PCB confirmed that Mani was no longer chairman of the board as his tenure ended on August 25.

"We can make no further comments on the matter as the notification for the election of the new chairman will be issued by the Prime Minister''s house," he said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is presently the patron in chief of the board and will now nominate two people to the PCB Board of Governors (BOG) and one of them will be elected as the new chairman.

Rumours were circulating that Pakistan''s former Test captain Ramiz Raja will take over as the new chairman of the board.

Both Mani and Ramiz have held meetings with the PM this week but it remains unclear whether Khan will nominate Ramiz on the BOG.

Ramiz told a cricket website that he had submitted a blueprint for the restructuring of Pakistan cricket to the PM when he was called for the meeting.

"Pakistan cricket needs a new direction as our rankings in all three formats indicates our cricket is not improving as the prime minister wanted," he said.

There is no still no clarity, media is swarmed with rumours. Ehsan Mani's tenure is mired with turmoil and terrible decision-making for the Pakistan national team as well as first class and club level players. Similarly Najam Sethi before him on these issues was equally awful.

Not very hopeful with Ramiz Raja as well. 90s players anointed to management positions like Inzamam, Waqar etc.. are extremely biased and insecure. Have only ruined merit and devastated Pakistan cricket.

We had seen systematical changes under Mani's tenure which was good but there wasn't much changes regarding the team building, shifting to next gear when it comes to advancing your playing/team strategy as per the current era. There was same old tactics under those old, already used and failed coaches,

Now it's time for Rameez and I hope we will able to see some changes on our mindset while developing team and playing style. He is much more into games so I believe he will be able to choose some wise decisions whereas I am pretty much unsure how he is going to cater other stuffs. He had some issues with few persons who are related to PCB nowadays, including Mohammad Yousuf, so let's see what is going to happen if he get selected.

- Pros
Changing our game style
Selecting new advanced mindset coaches
Work on domestic level structure, which he mentioned many times in his video
Having believe on young lads, I know it will not be his job but I am sure he will select those people who got same approach he does.
Working on fixing issues and make some new effective laws under his own tenure

- Cons:

He got some grudges against past and current players.
He got some soft stance against BCCI which will surely led us into more defensive mode.

Fantastic news.

Now time to get rid of Wasim Khan. The Mani-Wasim duo was a disaster. Easily the most incompetent leadership PCB have had in a long time.

Can people please show a little bit of grace and class?

The career of a 76 year old man has just ended.

He has been an honourable and loyal servant to the game.

He have had a long and illustrious career and has been a well regarded figure in the world of cricket. He is in the board of governors of many companies as well including Shaukat Khanam Memorial Trust. However, at this stage of his career I don’t think he would have debated much with IK on any issue, taken many stands or given opposite opinions incase they were needed.

A new chairman like Ramiz Raja (Rumoured) will be more enthusiastic, open to take a stand where necessary and at the same time knows IK enough to understand how to explain his point view to him.

For some its not possible.

According to the PCB Constitution if there is no vice-chairman, the powers of chairman PCB in his absence rest with CEO. Till the time, the new chairman gets elected, Wasim will be calling all the shots. Had there been a vice-chairman, he would have been the acting chairman but since there is no vice-chairman, Wasim will exert all the powers of the chairman PCB

Why cannot IK gives Wasim Khan 1 year to see how he performs? He cannot be worse than Mani for sure

Well, I think Mani made the best decision possible for himself and the future of the PCB.

I have my criticism of him and my own beliefs about how he wasn't performing up to our expectations, but his exit is an opportunity for someone else to take Pakistan Cricket to new heights.

new heights ... yeah right.
Here comes Ramiz Raja for you.

I don't think he even has the class and dignity of becoming PCB chief the way he has earned a reputation in commentary - even that self obsessed celebrity girl, calls him "Rambo".

I couldn't care less about his commentary. If he proves to be better than Mani, I will take it.

But he's gonna reset the GPS

What more does one want?

You all realize, his term ended. He can still come back as Chairman for another tenure once the names are nominated. There is literally no clarity on when that will happen. It is the one thing in Pakistan that annoys the hell out of me. Why wasn’t a new chairman elected 1 month ago so they could start from the day the outgoing chairman’s term ended? Every institution in Pakistan like to have periods of ad hoc leadership for some reason.

The post of chairman is overrated tbh. The most important decisions Ramiz needs to make are around team management appointments and his vision is 100% correct their. Misbah and Waqar need to go and Ramiz will see to that.

The other would be ensuring away tours for Pak A and to bring international cricket back to Pak - Wasim K can see to this.

Very happy to hear this, but please don't make Rameez the next pcb chairman.

Ramiz's job will be to convince the BoG to make decisions that he likes and then as Chairman, he will implement those decisions!

Observing the ongoing chaos in the PCB, I find myself nostalgic for Ehsan Mani era. It's often overlooked how positively impactful that period was.

Last time i saw his picture i felt quite sad. The guy is very old and i hope and wish him to be in good health

It's the difference between sincere patriotic people and crooks who would sell their family for a rp.

Ehsan Mani was the only PCB head in last two decades who had no ambition for power. He should have been the perfect candidate to change the constitution of PCB which could have closed most of the doors of political influence (like the ruling party getting the PCB chairman of its choice through a loophole) in PCB since he had already given most of the powers to Wasim Khan. But I guess, he didn't have enough stamina to go against all the politics and propaganda that he would have faced had he tried doing it.

Ehsan literally did nothing in his last stint. Dont know what the praises are about.

He was a political appointee, he was too old to work. The PTI govt just wanted to look good and deliver on the promise so they made him chairman. Ehsan Mani was already part of board of directors of Imran's cancer hospital. So there was the dosti thing maybe there.

Thing is, when he was made chairman, he immediately decentralized all his task to Wasim Khan. It was basically Wasim Khan who was running the show and not Mani.

I think people are praising Mani here because the current chairman is getting involved too much in player selections and picking up fights with Babar and Rizwan that Mani seems to look good.

Mani-Wasim nexus could not defeat the political pressure of PTI. Under political pressure they made a reduced team set up in domestic cricket. Under political pressure they decided to make Babar Azam the captain who lost us 3 ICC trophies.

The current chairman is a buffoon but atleast he is not making team selection based upon what the Prime Minister of the country wants.
