Phillips is a wonderful ball striker but he has been extremely lucky with dropped catches in this tournament:

Phillips, Allen and Mitchell are NZ’s key batsmen

Conway and Kane are the RizBab

Glen Phillips
SuryaKumar Yadav
Marcus Stoinis

Three standout players of this World Cup so far

I would like haris to breach that 155 km barrier once again.

Phillips - another player who is miles better than Babar and Rizwan in this format but rankings won’t reflect that.

They will fall short tonight but a very good team no doubt.

Look at Williamson, as usual tuk tuking and then he will go into an interview conference and say, "Just fine margins" :91: :inti

England Desperately need to get both set batsmen out or else match is slipping.

Glenn Phillips is very young as well. He is only 25 years old.
I thought he is in early 30s and definitely doesn't look 25.
He can carry this new zealand side for another 5-7 years.

Good wicket for NZ

Mitchell and Neesham will see this through

Want to see NZ SA semifinal again for NZ to win again.

Dropped the match?

Stupid by Neesham. Taking on Wood a bit stupid towards the longes boundary

Eng like Undertaker has lot of varieties Woods over was Hellsgate NZ succumb to it

Sam Curran such an important player for England.. almost every time he delivers in crucial times..

Since his comeback Sam Curran has been blessing in death bowling for England.

Long shot but Curran seems the t20 version of Wasim Akram evrytime consistent

England will be playing last match of group A so they will know all equation if it came to NRR

England and India have been the two best LOI sides since 2015 but they failed to cross paths in the final due to different circumstances.

2016 WT20 semifinal: WI upsetting India in the SF

2017 CT semifinal: Pakistan fluking a win over England

2019 WC semifinal: NZ getting lucky against India due to rain

2021 WT20: India getting eliminated in the group stage because of bad luck with the toss.

Hopefully, they will finally meet in 2022 and give the world the final they deserve.

Who knows we may have a Eng Nz final and after those runnerups NZ deserve a trophy India hardly look like a team to beat

If all 3 end up on 7 points is it head to head or NRR that will decide first ??

NZ should to try to finish it as close as much NRR will be vital

Eng have been overwhelming impressive hats off to Andrew Strauss for revolutionising it :aqib

Surely the best display of death bowling in the tournament so far. Brilliant by Wood, Woakes and Curran.

Eng vs SL is not a forgone conclusion especially in Sydney. SL has a decent record vs England in World cups

We saw what happened at Sydney against NZ. ENG start as heavy favourites and England won't have to play for NRR or anything as they will already be aware of what they need to do and I dont think Australia can go above England in NRR anyway.

Phillips kept regaining momentum in the chase, kept putting New Zealand in the game, kept breathing life into things with another brilliant innings in the tournament, but Williamson kept undoing all the hardwork of the former through dot balls and painful slow batting. That's two very poor innings by him now in the tournament already. A lot of the blame of this defeat should go to him. Expected better from him, a little more game awareness, at least.

New Zealand have a very long tail, mind you. They must address this issue soon, I think. Congratulations to England on a magnificent victory!

Buttler praises Hales after half century

England's captain, Jos Buttler, has been awarded man of the match for his match winnings 73.

He said: "I said at the toss you don't become a bad team overnight, we have some really dangerous players, and we came out tonight and left it all out there.

"It's quite a ruthless tournament, It's tough to get through.

"We know that it's in our hands, it's what you expect from World Cup cricket. With our line-up, we bat deep, and it allows you to take it on an over earlier.

"The wicket was a little bit tricky. Hales played a great knock and set us on our way. We are going to be flexible with our batting order all time and with the ball as well."

Buttler changes in powerplay pay off

Buttler used spin early on and it paid off, with New Zealand struggling to get off to a good start in the powerplay.

Phillips countered but excellent death bowling saw England over the line. Curran bowled two overs, taking one wicket for 12 runs.

Yeah but current SL is weird they just show up randomly sometimes and play out if their skin, yes Eng favs to win but it's not a forgone conclusion say like Afg-Aus.

England, New Zealand, and Australia. All of them now have 5 points.

NRR may determine the two semi-finalists.

Australia’s is negative. They will have to score big against Afghanistan and bowl them out.

England rode on fifties from Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, and a superb bowling effort by Sam Curran, to register a clinical 20-run win over New Zealand in their Super 12 encounter of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at the Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday.

Jos Buttler and Alex Hales' day out

Buttler made a cautious start to his innings, going at just about a run-a-ball for the first-half, with Hales going on the charge from the other end. The England openers built a stand of 81 runs, with Hales doing the bulk of the scoring. The partnership came to an end when Hales got stumped by Devon Conway off Mitchell Santner's bowling for a well-made 52 from 40 deliveries.

But the England skipper carried on and continued to anchor their innings. He started accelerating with around six overs remaining and that's when things went a bit out of control for New Zealand. Buttler also got dropped once before reaching his fifty and that only increased the miseries for the Kiwis. Buttler hit seven fours and two sixes in his 47-ball knock of 73. He was finally dismissed by a superb effort from Tim Southee and Kane Williamson in the penultimate over of the innings while trying to sneak a run. But he had already done the job for England by then and the lower middle-order played its part to take their total to 179/6.

Sam Curran bowls a brilliant spell

The 24-year-old stepped up with a brilliant spell once again. Curran bowled two overs up front and as many overs at the death, and he was equally brilliant in both phases. The left-arm pacer picked up the important wicket of Finn Allen inside the powerplay and then came back at the death to dismiss Glenn Phillips, who was threatening to take the game away from England. Curran ended his spell with brilliant figures of 4-0-26-2.

Glenn Phillips' fighting knock goes in vain

The middle-order batter rescued New Zealand with a brilliant century in the game against Sri Lanka and he looked all set to guide the Kiwis home in this contest against England as well. After New Zealand lost two wickets early in their innings, Phillips walked in and stamped his authority with some brilliant shots.

He played the aggressor in his 91-run stand with Williamson and then batted until the 18th over to get the Kiwis as close to the target as possible. But he perished finally for an excellent knock of 62 from 36 deliveries while attempting to clear the straight boundary off Curran's bowling. New Zealand didn't get any impetus in their innings after his dismissal and fell short by 20 runs.

With this win, England have now displaced Australia from the second position in Group 1 on account of better NRR. New Zealand, however, is still sitting at the top of the group as their NRR of +2.233 is far superior than that of England and Australia.

England looking awesome at the moment. I am making them favourities with that formidable batting side. That they easily defeated a powerful New Zealand side sending a clear message to other contenders. I am seeing a England vs South Africa final here. England waaa jeee waaa!:uakmal

England's top-order batting seems to be coming in to form at just the right time.

Great to see this late-career renaissance of Hales.

England are second in Group 1 following their win over New Zealand, with net run rate set to be a big factor in the qualification for the semi-finals. It's tight at the top, but the schedule is in England's favour.

Should the final round of games all see the teams ranked higher in the MRF ICC Men’s T20 Team Rankings beat their lower-ranked opponents, then New Zealand, England and Australia would all finish Group 1 tied on seven points.

That would see the top two decided on Net Run Rate.

New Zealand currently lead the group on that stat thanks to their huge margin of victory in the opening match, while England have a significant but not insurmountable advantage over Australia in the Net RR column.

Where Jos Buttler and his side may have an advantage is in the fixture schedule, which sees their game against Sri Lanka on Saturday come a day after New Zealand and Australia have completed their final group matches.

So England will go into their last game knowing exactly what they require to qualify – be that solely a win, or a win by a certain margin.

“There is a little bit of a benefit obviously playing that last game to know exactly what is required of us,” Buttler said, after his 73 helped England to a crucial win over New Zealand on Tuesday. “We've just got to wait and see exactly what happens.

“We're going to expect a really tough match against Sri Lanka, a really good team. Every game is tough in this tournament.

“But, yeah, to know exactly what we'll need to do to try and get through will obviously be a bit beneficial.”

England opted to bat first against New Zealand in Brisbane and set the group leaders a challenging 180 to win, thanks in large part to half-centuries from Buttler and his opening partner Alex Hales.

“We're a really dangerous team, we've got match-winners throughout,” the skipper said. “Having not quite sort of played our best, we were desperate to show that today.

“I thought we put in a very good performance. Any time you take on New Zealand, you know you're up for a really tough challenge.

“I'm really proud of the guys tonight in a must-win game to come out and play with freedom and express ourselves and show off our talent. I was really proud of the character we showed.”

England’s final game will be played at the SCG in Sydney, a ground that has hosted the two 200+ scores of the tournament so far - by New Zealand against Australia and South Africa against Bangladesh.

And a similar quality of surface would play into the hands of an England side with a hugely powerful batting line-up.

Yet simply being able to travel to Sydney with qualification still in England’s hands is the major boost for Buttler’s morale.

“I think it's a big relief to be heading to that last game knowing we have a chance at progressing,” Buttler said. “It would be a tough flight tomorrow if we'd lost tonight especially.

“So, yeah, we go there really excited. I think the team is in a really good place after tonight.

“Again, it showed great character in a must-win match. We'll head to Sydney full of confidence and expecting a really tough game against Sri Lanka.”

It was hilarious to see this whole place go gaga just because NZ beat Australia :))

Saying stuff like NZ will win this cup. Maybe they will, but they’re not really better than the rest.

We destroyed NZ in their home grounds with a less than stellar batting lineup.

I mentioned this during the Tri series that NZ is an inferior Pak overall. KW is not as big of a batsman as Babar in t20s, and so is a worse anchor overall.

Neesham is overrated. Can only hit when the ball is in his arc. Bits and pieces cricketer, not a real AR. Good Twitter account though.

It’s really just the Conway and Phillips show. Maybe Mitchell and Finn will chip in now and again.

Decent bowling attack.
