What's new

England v Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's | Jul 14-18, 2016 | Day 4

Rahat bowled well, probably 3/4 balls as I haven't seen all; got 2 & gifted one but apart from Aamir I don't think there is much control. Even Yasir is trying too much. I think eng's bottom half is capable to add more than 1st 5, but still half way to go; so it's a PAK game still. But PAK can't bowl with 4 men on line & still a boundary in almost every over.

Woakes, Bairstow and Broad.

These 3 can chase this easily. We need these 3 wickets asap or game gone

That shot will likely confirm Adil Rashid's inclusion for the next game

Woakes looked the most comfortable batsman against Yasir in the first innigs but ball was not spinning back then. So lets see how he copes with the turning ball now.

Mamoon you were saying we cannot win a single match. We are winning the first one :)))

Bangladesh suck in Test matches, even Azhar has a double-century there.

Azhar is capable of doing it against any side(in UAE though).

You could have bring up the example of Gillespi who did the same feat against us.:(

Bairstow over defensive play had a part to play. Moen wanted to put pressure on Yasir.

But moen isn't test quality anyway. Mostly his own fault should have been a little more patient.

That was just a nervous slog from Moeen i think, he decided to step out and slog even before Yasir bowled it!

Rahat bowled much better this time around. He did err but on the fuller side rather than short. He didn't ball at the pads and was focusing on the off stump line. I think he was much better with his control this time around.

I think aamir is bowling himself back in to confidence. Excellent foil for yasir

Amir so far has looked more like the second coming of Junaid rather than Wasim.

Yes, happy to see.

Now we can lose the series 3-1 or 2-1 instead of 3-0 or 2-0.

I think it's been a dream come back for Amir, while he hasn't got too many wickets, Yasir took all the load off him and he's bowling himself back into a rhythm with the pressure taken off!
Dream come back, he'll be more dangerous and less nervous in the rest of the games i reckon

OK, if BleedGreen doesn't stop with this nonsense he's getting added to my ignore list.

Test cricket needs twice the concentration from bowlers than ODI. I don't think PAK pacers were in their mind this morning. It was obvious that ENG'll attack the new ball considering reverse swing & Yasir - in these situation the best bowler ever I saw was Mac - 6 balls on 12 inch out side off, on just short of driving length in a 7-2 field. He would have made this 283 like chasing 400 until Warne comes.

But, I think, Arthur has identified the issue - going forward we'll see more control.

For all the Pre Match Hype and all the Talk about Amir Amir Amir with Star Sports still showing ads about Amir vs England and no one giving a crap about rest of 10 Pakistani players its so Heartening to see the other 10 players step up to the mark and carry the team to a historic win..

The tail won't wag against this Pakistani bowling attack especially yasir. And anyway England have never chased thus much at Lords. In fact only an ATG West Indies team have chased more than this at Lords. This will be the 2nd highest chase ever at Lords

Only last two are part of tail. Just look at Woakes he looks very capable bat

I believe there was a thread the other day 'Who will step up to support Aamir'

Mamoon are you getting annoyed that Amir is going at less than 2 rpo while Yasir is ripping it the other end

I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of penetration. He hasn't trouble the English top-order at all in this innings.

Hopefully he will be able to clean up the tail quickly here.

Amir must have bowled some real filth to be going at 1.8 RPO in this innings.

He's keeping it tight, no doubt but the general expectation and hype you PP fans created on here was like he would be swinging 20 inches either ways and taking 10 wickets minimum per match..

But like I said its his first match back he will get there eventually as well no need to give him slack..

Bairstow is going to play more attacking now. His over cautious play had a part to play in Moen reckless shot.

The lack of swing is a genuine concern yeah. But he hasn't bowled badly at all like a few are hell-bent on proving.

Surprising to see that PAK is not swinging much - neither with new ball or old one.
