That's not an excuse, it's a statement that the Lankans suck at batting outside of the SC because of their own lack of ability.
An excuse would be something like "Well, they won the Asia Cup and World T20 so it's ok if they collapse like that."

And the victim mentality kicks in.
The real reason is, Sri Lanka haven't produced match fixers left right like we have in the last few years. We fully deserve our tainted image.
