With India ready to face England in the first T20I on Tuesday, skipper Virat Kohli addressed a press conference in which he said he would want his side to play fearless cricket. India, who recently won the two-match T20I series against Ireland, will be travelling to England for a three T20Is, three ODIs and five Test match series. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Kohli stressed that the pressure will be on England to perform.

“We all are feeling relaxed and having a good time. We want to play competitive cricket against England. It is pleasurable to beat a good team in their own conditions. England visited India back during the 2016-17 tour, and we won the trophy at that time. England would want to win it back in their home. We are going to play fearless cricket. We have nothing to lose and we just want to improve as a team,” the right-hand batsman said.

Speaking about the England side, Kohli praised Jos Buttler, who displayed his form in the limited overs in the series against Australia last month.

“I am not surprised how Jos (Buttler) has performed. He got more opportunities this time to play, coming up at top of the order and he showed off his skill set. He grabbed his chances and it was lovely to watch him,” the 29-year old said.

Kohli further went on to credit IPL for helping Buttler in gaining more confidence and said that it will make the series more interesting against the opposition. “Chris (Woakes) and Moeen (Ali) also played in the IPL this year. It will make the tour more interesting, as the players share good relations with each other now. Earlier, England players used to get a little experience in IPL. But after this season, we know each other better. I am glad that the rigid mindset was kept on the side and players were allowed to come and it did great for them, it will take the standard of the game up in the tour,” Kohli said.

Speaking about the tough conditions in England, Kohli said that the skies look rather clear which will suit his team. “The skies look clear. We have not played much in wet and damp conditions. But it looks different this time. Speaking to some of the players, who played county cricket – Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma, they had a great time, and learnt a lot, which will help us,” he said.

Kohli further addressed speculations regarding the change in the batting order and said that the team will be more flexible in their approach. “Well, we certainly are going to be more flexible. We want everyone to have a go. We will throw in a few surprises here and there. In T20Is, because it is not such a long innings, we can afford to do that,” he said.

“At the start of any tour, we are as excited as the opposition. Especially, when you are playing a tough side such as England, it is a chance to test yourself. It gives an opportunity to test fringe players. We are going to try a few players, we want to test their skills, especially in limited over crickets,” he said.

On talking about key takeaways from the long England tour, he said, “The focus obviously will be on the way we play our cricket and the attitude we carry on throughout the tour. Of course, no one can guarantee results. But if we can carry on the winning mentality, I will be really proud as a captain,” he said.

“We did the same in South Africa and we managed to bounce back after losing two matches. If we can carry on the winning mentality in England, we will learn from it. There are a few things we want to try out in ODIs as well on the tour, and hence the next phase is really important before going for the World Cup,” Kohli said.

We dont have much to lose ?
Really ?
What are you ? minnows?
What dumb Statement..

Translation- I am going to continue more of the same stupidity I am known for and make sure we mess up our best chance in England in a decade.

This is like Pakistan making a statement before playing big teams.

What the heck is fearless cricket?

Just play to your potential and stick to your plans and you will see the results. Fearless cricket is for teams who have no faith in winning the series.

Kohli is a great player, but a poor tactician. Test Captaincy should be handed to Rahane.

And ODI captaincy to Rohit or DK!

I am sick of watching virat as captain. I doubt he will do anything good for team as captain. We can still worldcup with him being captain but 95% work will be done by ms or sometimes even rohit for field setting. This guy should just focus on being best batsman.

He is a legendary player but a very average captain.

I was impressed by his captaincy and the way he led the team in Johannesburg test though but tactically he is very very poor.

There is absolutely noo context attached to a T20 bilateral cricket match with next worldt20 in 2020...
He is just saying they are going to play fearlessly in a meaningless match and it is true that there is nothing to loose here as even the ranking in t20 format is a joke and no one bothers about it

I think he was talking about t20i only.
I don't think there will be any shuffling in odi batting order.
Conditions are dry this time so it is gonna be amazing series.

Kuldeep Yadav "even more lethal when it turns": Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli believes ‘lethal’ Kuldeep Yadav will have a pivotal role to play during the rest of India’s tour of England. Yadav produced a Man-of-the-Match display as he finished with 5-24 in India’s emphatic 8-wicket win over England in the first T20 International at Old Trafford. England had been in a good position at 94 for 1 but could only post 159 for 8 with Yadav’s googlies at one point giving him 3 wickets in 4 balls on his way to his best T20I figures.

KL Rahul’s unbeaten 101 from 54 balls then guided India to a comfortable victory with 10 balls to spare as they produced an impressive display, backed by a partisan support on a sun-drenched Manchester evening.

Kuldeep’s performance was also a reminder that despite their improvement in limited-overs cricket England remain vulnerable against spin.

“He’s going to be effective on any pitches we play on,” Kohli said. ”When it turns, he’s going to be even more lethal. He’s very difficult to pick. I hope he can keep the batsmen guessing. Looking at how convincing we were in all three skill-sets gives me great please as captain, especially some of the younger guys stepping up and doing the job.”

With UK enjoying a sustained spell of hot weather, Kuldeep said he felt comfortable at Old Trafford: ”It felt like home conditions. The wicket was very dry but when I bowled my first over I felt like there was going to be a bit of turn so I stuck to one line and length. I bowled my wrong ‘uns in the perfect areas. It’s my first tour and things are going quite well. Probably after this game, and for the next few games, England’s batsmen will prepare well. Obviously, they are quality players.”

The only England player to really trouble India was Jos Buttler, who made a 46-ball 69 before he also succumbed to the mastery of Kuldeep’s googly.

England captain Eoin Morgan admits his players will have to find a way to counter the danger posed by Kuldeep during the remainder of the English summer: ”Kuldeep is a very good bowler and he will continue to be a threat. Maybe we can be a bit better. It’s something we’ll assess. ”He took three wickets in four balls today and deceived us. It wasn’t a case of chipping up in the air. He bowled well.

“The more time you spend at the crease the better you see the ball. I think like it’s any challenge. If you are facing it at 90 mph bowling it’s difficult to replicate it in practice. And the same with a guy who spins it both ways. You have a clear plan and stick to it. Jos Buttler is a magnificent player of spin. If you go back and analyse how Alex Hales and Jos played him they didn’t give chances but acknowledged he bowled well.”

Kohli also commended Rahul on his innings which mixed finesse with power hitting as he made his second T20I century: ”He’s someone who has come a long way – he batted so clean, so crisp in the IPL and he has carried it forward. We want guys like him to step up, so other guys can play with more freedom. He can bat long as well. He’s very hungry, has great technique, and it’s a great sign for Indian cricket.”

every spinner is more lethal when it turns.
i havent read what all he said tho.

What? This sounds much like Pakistan team.

Want to play fearless cricket, sounds like Mickey

Have nothing to lose, sounds like Sarfi

How can u have nothing to lose, when u are a top team?

Sarfi said have nothing to lose at the CT and at Lords test. It made sense as they were already at the bottom of the table. But really?? How can India have nothing to lose?

Kohli The batsman and Kohli The captain, looks like 2 different individuals. One is a king and other a confused fellow.

I kind of get what Kohli says.

Means that the T20 and ODI series do not have much significance in the larger scheme of things.
