SUBSTITUTIONS
Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

A change for each side at the start of the second half.

Thiago is on for his Liverpool debut, replacing skipper Jordan Henderson.

Meanwhile for Chelsea, Fikayo Tomori in place of Kai Havertz.

GOAL - Chelsea 0-2 Liverpool
Sadio Mane

Oh my God, an absolute HOWLER!!

There is no sign of any danger when Kepa Arrizabalaga receives the ball at his feet inside his six yard box from Fikayo Tomori.

The Spanish goalkeeper tries to be too clever by finding Kurt Zouma with a short pass but Sadio Mane sticks a leg out and cuts out the ball.

The Liverpool man takes a touch and can roll the easiest of finishes into an open net.

Easy for Liverpool against Chelsea once the home team went down to 10 men.

Liverpool still looking like the team to beat in the EPL.

Easy for Liverpool against Chelsea once the home team went down to 10 men.

Liverpool still looking like the team to beat in the EPL.

Two games in and two wins bagged.

City yet to start their campaign and first up is a very good side in Wolves so will be interesting to see how they get on tomorrow night. I think it will be a lot closer between City and Pool this season.

Guardiola will be looking to fix the nine losses they incurred last season.

Liverpool were in complete control today. I've not seen a more dominant performance by a Liverpool team at Stamford Bridge than this. The conceding of the penalty was the only blemish and even that was fairly soft as Werner went down theatrically after scuffing his shot.

Mane was the best player on the field by mile. He's such a delight to watch. Quick, graceful and very deceptive. The movement before the red card was so clever. Christensen had no idea of the danger lurking and before he knew it he had allowed Mane to get goal-side with a clear sight of goal. Still a daft challenge to make considering it was always going to be a straight red and there was a whole 45 minutes left to play. The second goal epitomized his workrate.

Chelsea were never really in the game. Even with 11 players on the field, their only real tactic was to get Werner 1v1 with Fabinho. Lampard has a lot to prove this year with the money he has spent. He has gone and bought without any thought process in my opinion. It's shocking that Chelsea didn't prioritize a new keeper with all the money they've spent. Werner was a good buy but using him as a left-winger is an odd tactic. Buying Havertz when you already have Ziyech and Mount that play a similar enough role was also odd. Paying 65m for the 2nd best left back in the league only to not use him also makes no sense. Chelsea have stock-piled 6 central defenders and 4 of them are tried and tested failures. While the 2 new additions can't even get into match day squads. It really makes you wonder if Lampard even has a plan or he's just banking on spending frivolously and praying it pays off.

The scoreline flattered Chelsea a little bit but Liverpool were in cruise control in the 2nd half. Great game to watch nonetheless!

Thiago is stunning. Almost as good as Xavi. It is ridiculous to think that Barcelona allowed him to leave for Bayern.

Liverpool finally have a proper CM. They haven’t had one since Xabi Alonso left for Madrid.

I thought Chelsea were well in the game at half time. Sure LFC were moving the ball around well but Chelsea when attacking looked dangerous esp with Timo, who has some really good pace and great movement.

11 players for Chelsea, could have put pressure on us the longer the game stayed tied.

After the red card it was one way traffic. Mane was on fire today.

Chelsea look a very dangerous side which will only improve when their other new singings start to play. They just need to drop their keeper, it's gone on too long.

Kepa is a very talented GK and Chelsea should not drop the ball with him (no pun intended). They might regret it in a few years. 25 is no age for a GK. He can be elite in 3-4 years.

However, they need to push him with better competition. Someone who could genuinely threaten his status as number 1.

That 40 year old Argentinian is only forcing Kepa deeper into his comfort zone.

The goals continue to fly in, this has been thoroughly entertaining stuff.

No draws so far. Villa vs Sheffield Utd and Wolves vs Man City have a lot to live up to tomorrow night.

8 EPL matches so far and 39 goals this weekend.

The art of defending seems to have gone missing.

Looks like the Mendy deal is done and dusted and just needs to be confirmed officially.

Chelsea and Roman A. particularly don't have a lot of patience and this could be curtains for Kepa.

Poor start to the season for Sheffield Utd.

1-0 loss to a pretty solid looking Villa.

HT Wolves 0-2 Man City

A comfortable first 45' for Pep Guardiola's side with goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden.

3-1 Man City v Wolves.

Made hard work of things in the 2nd half did City, but a good start for them.

A mass reopening at this stage wouldn’t be appropriate' - Gove

BBC Breakfast

More from cabinet minister Michael Gove on the postponement of the reintroduction of fans to sporting venues from 1 October:

"We do want to, in due course, allow people to return to watch football and other sporting event, but it is the case that we just need to be cautious at the moment and I think a mass reopening at this stage wouldn’t be appropriate.

"I’ve attended Premier League football matches in London and, by definition, you will have on the tube train to the match, in the circumstances around the ground where people are buying food, going through the turnstiles, at half-time and afterwards a huge amount of social mixing and so we do need to proceed with caution."

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic has been charged with "improper conduct" during Saturday's defeat against Everton. by the Football Association.

Bilic was sent off after remonstrating with referee Mike Dean at half-time.

Following the 5-2 loss the Croat said he wanted an explanation for why Dominic Calvert-Lewin's first goal for Everton was awarded by the video assistant referee, having initially been ruled out.

Bilic has until Thursday to respond.

An FA statement said: "It is alleged that the West Bromwich Albion FC manager's language and/or behaviour on the field of play at half-time of the Premier League fixture against Everton FC on 19 September amounts to improper conduct."

The charge could result in up to a two-match touchline ban if evidence of abusive or insulting language is found.

"The analysis guys told me it was a foul for us before their first goal," Bilic told BBC Sport on Saturday.

The 52-year-old added: "As a manager I should be in a situation to ask the referee what's going on.

"It's not like the game was going on, it was half-time - nobody was around. I didn't swear. I asked him in a frustrated way but I didn't go over the line. But he just ignored me and gave me red.

"As a manager you have that right if you are not crossing the line. I told him if you want to kill us, kill us. That's all."

West Brom lost their first two games of the Premier League season, conceding eight goals in the process.

Defender Kieran Gibbs was also sent off just before half-time on Saturday for a push on James Rodriguez.

The postponement of plans for fans to return to sporting events in England may lead to the "devastating impact" of football clubs folding, says Tranmere Rovers vice-chair Nicola Palios.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Tuesday plans for some fans to return from 1 October will not go ahead.

The Premier League said it was "disappointed" by the announcement.

It added that "the football economy is unsustainable" without fans attending matches.

Palios told BBC Sport "the impact could be quite devastating" for many clubs throughout the English football league system.

"A lot of clubs were already having financial difficulties before this pandemic started and this may sadly tip some of them over the edge," she said.

Culture secretary Oliver Dowden will meet representatives of the major sports later on Tuesday to discuss the decision to call off the plans and talk about the request for a sports recovery fund.

The proposals were placed under review earlier this month after a rise in coronavirus cases. Pilot events in September had already been restricted to 1,000 people, but the pilot programme will now also be paused.

Palios said League Two side Tranmere were "lucky" to be "better off than most" but had had to spend money put aside for capital projects on "staying afloat" instead.

"If a rescue fund isn't forthcoming you'll see a devastating impact in terms of loss of clubs and job losses," she added.

"It's not just job losses within the clubs themselves, it's all the other businesses in the local area that are supported by them and survive because of them.

"We've already seen Macclesfield disappear and I fear there are more to follow if the rescue package isn't forthcoming.

"The full return of fans is the key thing as playing in front of 1,000 or 3,000 fans is actually more costly for the clubs than playing behind closed doors, certainly for those clubs who have sold season tickets for the current season."

Macclesfield Town, who were relegated from the English Football League (EFL) at the end of the 2019-20 season, were wound up in the High Court over debts totalling more than £500,000 last week.

Johnson outlined the new measures after the UK's Covid-19 alert level moved to 4, meaning transmission is "high or rising exponentially".

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, cabinet office minister Michael Gove announced the government were pausing the staged programme of fans returning but wanted to "make sure that, as and when circumstances allow, we get more people back".

Football is not the same without fans - Premier League
The Premier League said its clubs suffered £700m in losses last season and the national game is currently losing "more than £100m per month" without fans present.

"This is starting to have a devastating impact on clubs and their communities," it added.

"Football is not the same without attending fans and the football economy is unsustainable without them."

The top flight said it was certain the code of conduct it has developed means "fans in stadiums will be as safe or even safer than at any other public activity currently permitted" and this is "already evident" in other European league such as Germany's Bundesliga.

It said Premier League clubs "using innovative ways to get supporters safely back into grounds, will enable revenues to return to all levels of the game" and that they "will not slow down" in their "preparations for providing safe, bio-secure environments".

Burnley manager Sean Dyche said the Premier League may "step in" if they could "enhance the chances" of lower league teams surviving but that it was unfair to just single out football.

"Does that mean every hedge fund manager who is incredibly successful should filter down to the hedge fund managers who are not so successful," he said.

"If you are going to apply it to football, you have to apply it across the country to everyone and every business."

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce said the delay was "disappointing" and that football is "totally and utterly different" without fans.

"If we ever thought that it's not a game for the supporters any more, then we just have to witness what we have witnessed over the last three or four months," he said.

"It's not the spectacle that I believe it is."

We had no idea this was coming - Chesterfield
Chesterfield chief executive John Croot said the National League side had "no idea" the "bombshell" of Gove's announcement was coming and the club had to suspend ticket sales that were due to start on Tuesday morning.

"I played it back to check I heard it correctly - nobody in the club had any idea that bombshell was coming our way," Croot told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"The National League has told us they have no real information at the moment, they are trying to find out themselves.

"It's a financial worry and football is not football without fans. It affects everything, if the fans aren't coming through the door it affects finances, it affects sponsors.

"We are OK for the time being but speaking to other clubs, there are a number of clubs who are weeks away from real issues."

Fans are crucial to clubs' survival - the supporters' view
Football Supporters' Association chief executive Kevin Miles said the organisation has written to the government to "stress how important it is that we start to allow fans back into games".

"Feedback from our members at test events has confirmed high levels of compliance with all the health and safety measures put in place, and that they felt safer at games than they have done in many other social situations," said Miles.

"Having fans at games is of course not only important to the lives of supporters, it is also crucial to the survival of so many clubs who play a crucial role within their communities. A combination of revenue at the ground and government support is urgently needed to keep clubs going."

Gloucester Rugby Club chief executive Lance Bradley said the announcement was "disappointing" after the "success" of a pilot event where 1,000 fans watched the club's Premiership defeat by Harlequins at Kingsholm on 14 September.

Gloucester's Premiership game at Bath on Tuesday will now take place behind closed doors after the pilot scheme was paused.

"We took very detailed measures in conjunction with the relevant authorities to make sure people were socially distanced while they were there and we feel the event was a success," Bradley told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"It is vital to us that we get fans back in as quickly as it's safe to do so - matchday income from fans makes up about a third of our total income so it's a significant part.

"We absolutely do need to try to get some fans back in before Christmas and there are some trials, we are talking to a company that are developing a quick testing mechanism that might allow us to get fans in more quickly than that and it is very important we work with the government to try to achieve that."

The Premier League is still awaiting detailed proposals from the Football League relating to a requested £250m 'bailout'.

The BBC was told earlier this month the EFL expected to be given details by the Premier League about what financial assistance it might offer for clubs to get through the coronavirus pandemic by the end of September.

This has become even more urgent given the government's decision to end crowd pilots and block the return of fans to stadiums from the start of next month.

While the Premier League will continue advancing solidarity payments earlier than normal, BBC Sport understands that, while accepting the need for speed and to be flexible in their approach, league sources say they are not completely clear what the EFL is asking for beyond the headline sum.

There are those, for instance, who wonder whether Birmingham require additional funds to cover their costs given they sold midfielder Jude Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund for £30m in July.

In addition, it has been noted that some EFL clubs have been more proactive than others in cutting costs through reduced wages and squad sizes, and the Premier League does not want to be seen to punish those who have taken action themselves.

It is for this reason that BBC Sport has been told the Premier League needs detailed analysis of what money is needed, for whom and precisely why. Without this, the organisation is reluctant to hand over a cheque at a time when its clubs are feeling huge financial pressure given they are losing the most in terms of fans being absent from stadiums.

Respected football finance blogger Swiss Ramble posted on Thursday that the combined losses of Premier League clubs through the absence of matchday income would be at least £830m if no fans were allowed into stadiums for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.

That figure is regarded as a minimum as it does not take into account sums paid by fans buying merchandise on a matchday because that is calculated in a different revenue stream.

Manchester United stand to lose the most, an estimated £141m, with details about the impact on their finances due to be revealed in their end-of-year financial report, which has been pushed back to October.

EFL sources say detailed talks have taken place over a period of weeks but that it was impossible to go through the precise requirements of each club without knowing exactly what kind of funding would be available.

In addition, they suggest the sale of a player like Bellingham, or the £4m Exeter will receive as their part of the deal that saw former striker Ollie Watkins join Aston Villa from Brentford earlier this month, are long-term financing rather than the day-to-day running of a club, which gate receipts obviously are.

West Ham assistant Alan Irvine says boss David Moyes will still manage Sunday's game against Wolves, but from home as he is still self-isolating.

Moyes and players Issa Diop and Josh Cullen had to leave the London Stadium before Tuesday's Carabao Cup win over Hull after positive Covid-19 tests.

Irvine will again be in the dugout on Sunday and will communicate with Moyes.

"Everything we do will be run through him first of all and he will make the decisions on everything," Irvine said.

"He would make the decisions anyway but, like for this press conference, I am the messenger."

Sullivan: West Ham co-owner says transfers a significant challenge
Irvine said that Moyes, Diop and Cullen remain asymptomatic and are all coping well.

"He [Moyes] is getting on with other things," Irvine added.

"They are frustrated because they can't come in but that is the situation and they understand that. None of them are feeling anything, which maybe makes it more frustrating."

Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Man Utd need to win this.

GOAL - Brighton 1-1 Man Utd
Harry Maguire

United level!

Bruno Fernandes swings in a deep cross to the back post which is nudged back into the six yard box by Nemanja Matic.

Skipper Harry Maguire is on hand to tuck in from close range on the verge of half time.

GOAL - Brighton 1-2 Man Utd
Marcus Rashford

This one does count..AND WHAT A GOAL IT IS!

Marcus Rashford had one disallowed a couple of minutes earlier but gets on the scoresheet with one from the George Best textbook.

The England international cuts into the box and can finish but sells Ben White a dummy which sends the defender sliding back to Leeds.

Brighton players are queuing up on the line, but the United striker looks up and drills a finish high into the net.

High quality and United finally up and running.

Crystal Palace 1-2 Everton

What a start to the season for Everton.

Three wins from three to sit top of the Premier League.

GOAL - West Brom 1-0 Chelsea
Callum Robinson (4 mins)

What a start!

And how easy was that for the Albion! Marcos Alonso duffs a routine header straight to Matheus Pereira which is a frankly terrible idea. The creator in chief looks up and finds Callum Robinson on the left of the area and he flashes a shot across goal and in.

A new man between the sticks but the same 'no saves' policy for Chelsea. Barely a dive...

GOAL - West Brom 3-1 Chelsea
Mason Mount (55 mins)

Will Chelsea MOUNT a comeback?

I'm glad I bothered clearing up that sub now as Mason Mount gets the fightback under way, with a superb goal too. He gets the ball just outside the area and hits a swerving shot which wrongfoots Sam Johnstone and flies into the corner.

It looks deflected on first viewing, odd trajectory, but no it's true.

First win of the season for Southampton.

That man Ings on the scoresheet again.

GOAL - Brighton 2-3 Man Utd

Explanation for why penalty was taken after full time whistle

Simply, because the full-time whistle was blown after the incident and not before, and the incident took place in normal time. The VAR - Simon Hooper - was able to check, irrespective of the full-time whistle that followed.

As play had officially been brought to an end, Fernandes' penalty was the last kick of the game, so if Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan had saved it and the rebound was scored, it would not have counted.

IFAB Law 7.4 - On duration of match

If a penalty kick has to be taken or retaken, the half is extended until the penalty kick is completed.

IFAB Law 2 also states: "If at the end of the half, the referee leaves the field of play to go to the referee review area (RRA) or to instruct the players to return to the field of play, this does not prevent a decision being changed for an incident which occurred before the end of the half."

Newcastle rescued a injury-time point against Tottenham Hotspur entirely against the run of play from the penalty spot after another controversial handball decision.

Spurs could have been 5-0 up if they had taken their chances by the time Andy Carroll headed a cross against Eric Dier's arm from close range. The decision was made after video assistant referee consultation.

Callum Wilson stepped up to score the penalty with practically the last kick - and Spurs boss Jose Mourinho walked down the tunnel in disgust.

Lucas Moura had put Spurs ahead at the back post from a low cross by Harry Kane, the England striker's fifth assist in two league games.

Spurs would have been out of sight had it not been for Magpies keeper Karl Darlow, who made 10 saves - including two excellent ones to deny Kane.

Son Heung-min, who scored four goals in last weekend's 5-2 win over Southampton, hit the woodwork twice but was replaced at half-time.

Newcastle were cautious and created very few chances as they failed to have a shot on target until the late, late drama.

Three defeats in three games for last season’s high flyers, the Blades. What does that portend?

Man City 2-5 Leicester City

Crushing defeat for City.

That game was total bonkers.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers speaking to Sky Sports: "To beat Man City you have to run like hell. So you have to have that mentality. The tactical discipline was good and because of the counter press you have to get your passes off quick.

"We fell behind to a brilliant finish. We showed good composure and stayed calm and showed enough that we could cause them a problem.

"It was a brilliant performance and result. It has taken me 13 years to play that way. I’m very much about attacking and being aggressive. I always try to be positive but I need to think of other ways to get results in theses games.

"Bringing the game into our half of the field, block off one of their midfielders and you have to be good in the transition to get two or three passes to get out. We took out the press from the goal kicks and went direct but overall the players had to work very hard."

In the last 4 years, this is the worst Man City team I have seen. They lost Sane this season and replaced him with Torres and now have lost Aguero, Bernardo and Jesus to injury. They also have not replaced David Silva and Kompany.

Beating City has also become easier than ever. They like to dominate space up the field and therefore their press is usually in the opposition half. Once you beat that press you expose their defenders. None of their defenders are particularly great 1-on-1 defenders.

Their best 1-on-1 defenders are their full backs because they don't lose many foot races. Walker and Mendy are tough to get past because when facing them with the ball but if you manage to get goal-sided you can anticipate an idiotic challenge. Their positional sense is non-existent. Walker is slightly better as he will still often tuck inside but Mendy is clueless.

Their centre-backs get pulled apart because one of them will always try and close the attacker with the ball down. The reason that happens is because they have their midfield committed up the field trying to ball back and the City defence only knows how to press the ball and not fall back into a shape when being attacked. When the centre-back gets pulled out then you have a glaring hole in the middle of that defence that quick runners can attack.

Usually their dominant midfield and exceptional attack would compensate and help protect their soft underbelly. Only teams (Liverpool usually) that could beat the press would really cause City problems but now more and more teams are figuring out how to beat that press. Not only that, Rodgers had a terrific game plan of more or less man-marking Rodri which made retaining possession that much harder. And to make matters even worse, Pep is working with a thin squad for once. No fit strikers and injuries to various players.

This season is easily Pep's greatest test. City are expected to bounce back from the ignominy of last season but Murphy's law has decided to show it's face at the most inopportune time. I don't see City challenging for the title unless Liverpool struggle. And if Liverpool struggle, it brings the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and United into the title challenge fold as well.

NEW | Premier League: 10 positive tests among 1,595 players and staff tested for COVID-19 over last week.
They will self-isolate for a period of ten days.

GOAL - Liverpool 0-1 Arsenal
Alexandre Lacazette

GOAL - Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal
Sadio Mane

Immediate equaliser!

Liverpool leading 2 1 half time.

Mane lucky to be on the field I reckon.

Liverpool 3 Arsenal 1.

It's going to a special team to stop Liverpool winning the league again.

Liverpool's new £45m signing Diogo Jota grabbed a home debut goal as the champions demonstrated their determination to retain an iron grip on their Premier League crown by coming from behind to record an impressive victory against Arsenal at Anfield.

Arsenal, who had won their opening two Premier League games, went ahead after 25 minutes when Alexandre Lacazette took advantage of Andy Robertson's error to bundle a close-range finish past Alisson but ended well beaten.

Liverpool, who maintained their 100% start to the season and moved second behind Leicester City, responded instantly as man-of-the-match Sadio Mane pounced two minutes later after Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno could only push out Mohamed Salah's shot.

And Liverpool went ahead before half-time when Robertson atoned for his earlier error by getting on the end of Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross to beat Leno.

Liverpool were far superior but Arsenal will rue a great chance missed by Lacazette, who shot tamely at Alisson when he was clean through with the score 2-1 and their night was complete when Jota, making his Anfield bow following his move from Wolves, shot low past Leno from the edge of the area.

Walk in the park, Liverpool made Arsenal look like a relegation team.

Alisson made a couple of great saves but Lenor's mits were on fire.

Another 3 points for the champions. :salah

Three games in and Liverpool already proving they're going to be the team to beat. All their qualities were on show including the high press, fitness and the individual skill.

Utterly dominant and the much hyped Aubameyang was nowhere to be seen.

Liverpool are a far superior side competing for bigger trophies at the moment, and about 4 years ahead in the process that Arsenal would like to emulate, so I don't think so much can be drawn from this game. The more relevant tests for Arsenal will come in the next few weeks.

Can't think of many players that have been seen at Anfield in the last couple years. Fact is he's "hyped" because no-one except Mo Salah has scored more PL goals than him since his debut in Feb 2018, which included 3 months under a retiring manager, 1.5 years under a horrible manager and about a year under a manger in his first job. That too in a team that last season who had some of the worst chance creation statistics in the league.

Has showed up in countless big games for Arsenal. Hyped for a reason.

It was a poor poor performance from Arsenal last night, and showcased exactly how much investment we need. Still, I think the real litmus test for us being a top 4 side will be in the weeks to come, especially the game vs United.
