"Enjoying bowling alongside Shaheen and watching him bowl with so much aggression" : Hassan Ali

Hassan Ali speaking to the media at end of Day 1 of the 1st Test against Zimbabwe

"The two years I suffered due my injury was a hard time for me but the most important thing is that I made a good comeback; I am in the team to put in good performances and it always feels good when you do that for your team"

"We didn't dominate Zimbabwe in T20s in the way we should have, this is something we realized and also analysed coming into the Test series"

"So we knew that if we didn't dominate from Day 1, Zimbabwe could come back hard at us; With 4 wickets from Shaheen and myself and some really good bowling by spinners, we have been able to execute our plan of dominating Zimbabwe from Day 1 of the Test match"

"First of all I would like to congratulate Shaheen Shah Afridi for reaching the milestone of 50 Test wickets, as I didn't know about this achievement"

"This is great for the Pakistan team and no amount of appreciation is enough for Shaheen as he is putting in brilliant match-winning performances for Pakistan"

"He is a lovely guy and I am really enjoying bowling alongside him especially watching him bowl with so much aggression"

"Our pairing is quite good and we are also performing well - we had bowled together before but after my comeback from injury, we are putting in some good performances and enjoying ourselves, and is always good to have this kind of right-hand/Left-hand combination"

"The two years when I was away from the side, I used that time for some batting practice as well and put in hard work for that; I am learning a lot about batting from Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq, and I am hoping that along with my bowling, I also perform with the bat to help Pakistan win"

"Look whenever your are appreciated for good performances, you should also expect to be criticized for bad performances also; Although as a professional, you wish to put in good back to back performances but you cannot always get a 5fer in every game; We just need to work on having consistency in our performances"

"Waqar Younis is my role model and you can just imagine the feeling I have of being in the same squad as my role model; I am learning a lot from him although at the moment he is not with us due to personal commitments"

"Against South Africa during the death overs, we did bowl yorkers which is based upon the match situation and our plans"

"So, its not true that we don't know how to bowl yorkers or slower deliveries"

"Pitches here are slow and I am used to these from my time in domestic cricket; You get some help in reverse swing although we didn't get that today but there are chances of getting that as pitch dries up from tomorrow"

"We have some good spinners such as Sajid who was a top wicket-taker in domestic and Nauman Ali who did so well against South Africa; This is a team game and the idea is that whoever is given the ball does his best; This is a slow pitch and the fast-bowlers aren't the only one who will get wickets; Its quite possible that in the 3rd day and onwards the spinners will also take wickets"

"The plan was to bat first and put up a big total and put Zimbabwe under pressure; However, I feel that if you bowl in the right place, the right line and length then you can destroy any batting line-up in the world; And that is what happened, we bowled according to plans and we were successful"

A good pace bowling duo for Pak. Hopefully both can remain fit and carry on performing for years to come.

Ideally I would want Hassan to come in at first change in all conditions in tests.

With these two and Yasir our bowling attack looks a little better. If Abbas maintains his county form and gets back into the side than Hasan, Shaheen, Abbas could be a pretty good pace attack.

I like this duo.

Look they may not be the best new ball duo Pakistan has ever had but they give 100% every time they have the ball and give every ounce of energy for the team and their captain.

I agree Saj.

We have this bad habit of start comparing players and duos to legends and I am sure there is a thread somewhere on this forum where fans are hyping Shaheen-Hassan with Wasim-Waqar... And that's just childish and unfair on Shaheen & Hassan... These guys are at the infancy stage of their careers and burdening them with the pressure of performing like W-Ws is ridiculous.

They are not the best in the world, but I'd take a fully fit Shaheen-Hassan duo over some previous duos of 2010s: (Junaid being an exception since he was really good at one point)

Imran Khan / Irfan Khan / Rao Iftikhar / Rahat Ali / Sohail Tanvir / Tanvir Ahmed / Wahab Riaz

Pakistan is lucky that Hasan Ali made a comeback to all formats, he's a good bowler with the old ball and knows how to maintain the ball for the later stages of the game.

Shaheen is improving, and reaching 50 wickets should give him confidence. These guys will get better as they play together, but we are very much missing the third pacer. Who that third pacer is will answer a lot of questions.

For one, Faheem is accurate enough to function as a Mohammad Abbas-type bowler, so Abbas making a return seems unlikely.

Then you have pure pace like Naseem, which is always a gamble playing.

Our new-ball pair isn't as solid as we'd like it to be, so someone like Irfanullah can slot in hopefully in the near future.

If not him, the management seems keen to play Shahnawaz Dahani perhaps as a middle overs bowler asked to bowl hard and bang the ball into the pitch.

Ideal chance to try new fast bowlers. Shaheen and Hassan would always be the first choice given the limited options.

However the management are more concerned in improving averages than trialing new options.

Hasan will struggle in SENA tests... I am still not convinced tbh

The days are long gone when a series against Zim would be used to experiment. They aren't even in the WTC and yet Misbah is rolling out full strength with several 35+ players in the side lol. It's embarassing and shows a lack of foresight.

Saw bits and pieces of yesterday's action.
Shaheen was getting good pace and bounce (does show it s a true good wicket) and was unsettling most of the batsmen.
Hassn was all energy and the Yorker lbw was awesome, and I feel his pace is up from last time when I saw.
All in all they are a good pair for pak. As an indian admirer of your pace bowling - good luck...

Yup same. Still a bit erratic with his L&L at times. But he’s certainly made a good comeback to Test cricket. I hope they try Dhani in the next game as well. Would be a solid back up option with a lot of pace and aggression.

Hassan Ali bowls too many boundary balls. He is always pitching it up and looking for LBW and bowled which works well against weaker batsmen but will backfire against the top teams.

He is a LOI specialist and cannot bowl proper Test match lengths. His lack of height is probably a factor as well.

Pakistan needs a proper new ball bowler in Test cricket to partner Shaheen.

Unfortunately, he is automatic first-choice when the alternatives is the rubbish Naseem with his zero skill or Hasnain who has reasonable talent but no mentality at all. A couple of boundaries and he turns into a kitten.

People can call Shaheen overrated, but the reality is that he is easily the best fast bowler in Pakistan across formats and the only one with elite potential.

If he can improve his bowling with the old ball, he can reach the level of left arm pacers like Starc and Boult.

Realistically Hasan should not be having the new ball. Maybe some like Shahnawaz would be a better option.

The bigger concern is the lack of a genuine spinner especially overseas.

Agree on Shaheen if he was in a better team would definitely be top 3 in the world right now. Hopefully can still achieve this considering the poor back up that he has.

Hassan Ali batting well this morning - should get 50 I feel.

Good to see Hassan enjoying his cricket

Sorry, what? Shaheen is barely scraping into the top 30 fast bowlers right now. He has flopped in all of his last 4-5 test series. Even in this test against Zimbabwe he only picked up one non-tailender wicket. He is overrated beyond belief.

Yes he has potential, but toady's Shaheen doesn't get into any SENA or Indian bowling line up as first choice in any format.

Hassan Ali speaking to the press:

"The day I learnt that my baby daughter was on her way, my first-class performance started to improve and the same happened in my performances against South Africa and in Zimbabwe now - I have no doubt in my mind that daughters are indeed a blessing from the Almighty"

"Whether I am rested in the next match is up to the management - I will be happy if I am asked to play in that match and will also be happy if I am asked to sit it out so that another player can get a chance to play; Just like I came in to play the T20 series decider against Zimbabwe, I am once again ready to play when asked to do so"

"First of all I would give credit for my success to the improved levels of fitness for which I have worked very hard; Playing first-class cricket has really helped me as that is the longer format; I had never played 9 back to back games in my career before as I did in this season; I did the skill work needed for that format, bowled short and long spells, bowled with the new and old ball, all that has really helped me; When I cam to South Africa, I bowled on slow tracks and we have similar tracks here in Zimbabwe also"

"There was a time when I was removed from Central Contract and I had multiple injuries, which was very frustrating and it reduced me to tears as well; My wife and my elder brother all told me that all we had in our hands was hard-work, and the rest was in the hands of the Almighty"

"I did not give up hard work and my only aim was to make such a comeback in the Pakistan side that the world will remember me for that"

"Look I have said this many times to everyone, there is no effect on my injuries due to my wicket-taking celebrations but I do enjoy that and my team also enjoys that, and gives us all an energy; This celebration is for my fans who are very happy when they see me doing it; I am sure you also enjoy it and try that at your home as well"

"Everyone has their preferences and mine is Test cricket; It was my dream to wear Pakistan Test cap and I achieved that and also performed well in Tests; For me this was a dream come true; Test cricket is the real test for a players skill and temperament"
