Middlesex’s Eoin Morgan will captain England’s One-Day International and IT20 squads respectively during the tour of India, which starts next month.

The 30-year-old is joined in both squads by Nottinghamshire’s top-order batsman Alex Hales. Both players return to the international set-up for the first time since the end of the English domestic season.

Yorkshire’s prolific batsman Joe Root returns to the squad having been rested for England’s ODI series victory over Bangladesh in October.

Ben Duckett, Steven Finn and James Vince all miss out on selection as the white ball side continues to progress under Morgan and Head Coach Trevor Bayliss, which has seen England win nine of their last 12 ODIs.

Selectors have also announced a 15-man IT20 squad for the India series.

England will play three ODIs and three IT20s during the three-week tour with the ODI opener taking place on Sunday January 15 in Pune.

Why's Morgan playing for ENG?

And above all, why is he still captaining? About time you move on to better players, and leaders.

I think he also ran away from Bangla tour.

I know I've mentioned it before but he still averages 45.08 at a strike rate of 96.77 since the world cup, not exactly that poor is it... I also think he's been a key part in the transformation of this team and that his captaincy and leadership has been pretty much spot on personally.

Said it before Duckett wasn't ready for International Cricket just yet, and turning it on for the England A side is just a mere step.

Disagree, I think he's perfectly ready for limited overs internationals personally, just hard luck that England have the depth in batting quality available that there is right now.

Ben Stokes should be captain of England. He's passionate, a good leader and quite young too.

Not really. His main attribute was supposedly against spin for England A but when it came down to it he was found out consistently. He's a very good player but let's not pull any punches and say he was unlucky, because he wasn't.

He was actually picked based on his performances against spin thus picked for Bangladesh and then India, but unfortunately he wasn't up to it.

His time will come again but at the moment in time he's too raw/green to be chucked in the deep-end too soon.

Pretty different game when it comes to limited overs compared to tests isnt it though. During Buttlers first stint in test cricket he'd particularly struggle against the spinners, however he doesn't seem to have any particular issues against them in limited overs.

To call a 22 year old who not only got dropped from the ODI team but the squad overall after scoring 2 fifties in his first 3 games (and at that in foreign conditions) anything other than unlucky would be harsh.

Why is England being captained by an Irish guy? Strange.

Morgan is the chosen one for England in Limited Overs. His emergence in 2009/10 saw the rise of England in Limited Overs and they also won the WT20 in 2010.

1 year in his captaincy and they have become a top class ODI unit, and in 3 years time, he will become the first English captain to win a World Cup.

England winning WC in England. I wanna see an English guy do it. Root and Stokes can both be good captains.

Think he's the lucky one, reaping benefits of a good team.

They can do better if they appoint a strong leader and tactician.

Even Jonny would be an upgrade.

He's played both Limited Over Cricket and the longer form. No excuses really. After looking good in 2 innings in the ODIs he looked pretty average in the games in-between.

England have obviously seen he's not ready yet so have dropped him. Maybe he was a little harsh done by in the ODIs because England don't have a good-to-decent replacement but overall I don't think many wouldn't be saying otherwise.

One thing though, I thought it would've been better for him to play the ODIs in India and get to experience the atmosphere and the D/N conditions too.

Using the logic of dropping someone from all formats because of their performance in a single (and the most different) format despite them doing well in the other format is pretty silly.

At may be silly to you, but the England selectors thought otherwise. Do I think he should stay with the LOI squad, yes I do. But once again this isn't about being unlucky, he got a place in the squad because the likes of Morgan and Hales didn't travel for security reasons.

Root is obviously England next Test captain. In LOIs it could be either Root or Buttler. I personally have been impressed by Buttlers captaincy. Also captained against us in a T20 which England won
